Yikes, what an awful waste of money. After the great Bobby Portis news, this offseason took a nose dive with the New York billionaire owners lowballing PJ Tucker, and now signing George Hill to anything other than a vet min deal (though bringing him back at all is bad enough). Couldn't disagree more. He is another reliable shooter with extensive playoff experience and he plays both ends of the floor. I'm confused why anyone would be so staunchly opposed to bringing him back. They probably didn't want to get rid of him in the first place but had to when the chance to get Holiday came up. I'm also already tired of this lowballing PJ Tucker narrative I keep seeing everywhere. Opting to forgo $40 million a year for PJ Tucker isn't low balling. I get it, he's tenacious and likes to play defense, but his one month in the spotlight is driving his reputation to insane levels. Yup, the Bucks wanted to keep Hill, but it was a 3-way trade for Jrue and OKC wanted Hill for the Steven Adams trade. The Bucks had no choice but to include Hill for the Jrue trade to be successful. Ironically, if the Bucks were able to keep Hill in the Jrue trade, they would have to pay Hill $9.6M for the 21-22 season, but now they have him on a lot cheaper contract of $4M per year for 2 years. Last offseason the Bucks signed DJ Augustin to a 3yr $21M contract to replace Hill as the backup PG, and Augustin was so bad defensively that they had to get rid of him, fortunately the Bucks were able to trade him for Tucker. I'm glad that Hill is back, I still remember he led the entire NBA in 3pt shooting at 46% in the 19-20 season as our backup PG. He's a good 3pt shooter and defender, and a steady ball handler, all the qualities of what the Bucks need to backup Jrue.
