  1. You must be smoking something if you think the Brewers would even entertain the thought of trading Fielder to the Scrubs. Lol.
  2. Watch for key words here: They could compete without Hart and Fielder if they are traded for top notch starting pitchers and if those pitchers perform and if the lineup can score enough without two proven middle of the order hitters. That's a could, and 3 ifs. If no major deals are made, it doesn't mean changes won't happen or that improvement can't take place. Lorenzo Cain may well take Carlos Gomez job by next spring. Sure Hart may fall off, but does anyone believe Fielder will again be worst in the league in percentage of baserunners driven in? Will the 2011 team have a 2 month period of blown save after blown save? Perhaps, but not likely. Escobar is capable of improvement as is Lucroy. Braun is too. The pitching staff needs more tweaking, the bench a little revamping but the money's there to do both. How about anything that would address our biggest weakness, our pathetic defense? Lawrie comes in at 2b, Weeks moves to RF, McGehee or Gamel at 1B. That's at least improvement at 2 positions there.
  3. Maybe, but the only strong position in Free Agency this next offseason will be 1B, wish could actually hurt the market for Fielder. Dodgers, Giants, Rockies, Braves, Rangers, Angels, Red Sox, Yankees, Rays, and White Sox are the main teams I can think of that would likely be interested. Don't think there's that many good 1B/DH candidates available in free agency.
  4. I think what matters more is competing beyond next season. Could we compete next year without Hart and Fielder? Yes we could. Could we compete beyond that without Hart and Fielder? Absolutely. If we acquire the right pieces in those trades, which will hopefully solidify our pitching staff for the future, there's no reason to believe that we won't be able to compete again down the road. We still have plenty of offense on our team, including young players that will bring us into the future. We are missing that same presence on the pitching staff, and the only way to change that is to sell high on Hart, and get what you can for Fielder when it comes to young, high-ceiling pitching. There's a good chance that we'll get at least one pitcher out of those two trades that will make an impact next year, and that alone would make us a better team. Maybe we'd take a slight hit on offense, but I think Gamel can step in adequately for Fielder, and we can find someone else to play RF. The point is that we need another high-ceiling starter in our rotation, because we aren't getting anywhere with the rotation we have now no matter how good we are offensively. We are better off taking the gamble and trying to acquire some young pitching rather than sitting on Hart and Fielder hoping to compete next year with virtually the same team, and risk letting them walk for just draft picks who won't impact this team for even longer than the prospects we could get via trade. I just see no reason to believe that this same team can compete next year, so I see no reason not to take a gamble and sell high on Hart and trade Fielder for the best deal out there as well. I just don't think we have much to lose here. Fielder is gone anyway, and Hart could likely be gone also. Either that or he may revert back to his old self, and we will have lost our opportunity to get good value for him. Really it's gambling on being able to compete in 2011 with this same team hoping that our players improve enough, or it's gambling on being able to compete for multiple years down the road. I'll take the chance that provides us with more opportunities to compete, and that can only be done by trading Hart now and Fielder in the off-season for the best packages Doug can find.
  5. Totally agree with you, trading Hart and Fielder wouldn't stop us from competing. If we get solid pitching in return it would actually help us compete.
  6. Doug will deal Prince at the Winter Meetings this off-season where he will have more teams chasing him. Hopefully he can get us the best package in return for him at that point.
  7. If Hart kind of is equal to Davis to most, I am not sure Gomez is equal to Upton AND Moore. You're right Gomez is only worth Upton. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. Yeah, I'm not on board with dealing Hart unless we get at least one major league ready pitcher for him. Otherwise I don't really like the idea. Major league ready pitching is what we need the most right now. Hopefully we can bring back some arms for Fielder in the off-season as well.
  9. According to Henry Schulman's twitter, the Brewers are asking for Sanchez or Bumgarner for Hart and Sabean isn't willing to trade either at this point. http://twitter.com/hankschulman/status/18491806316
  10. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/98366204.html Some interesting comments from Melvin on the trade front. Despite many trade rumors flying around, especially with rightfielder Corey Hart, Melvin also said he is not on the verge of making any trades. He said he will engage in trade talks but isn't interested in stripping down his team. "I'm not actively shopping anyone," said Melvin. "I'm always available to talk. I've made some phone calls. "If I think we have matches with other clubs, I'll talk to them. If something came along that made us better for now and in the future, you've got to look at it. If a trade makes you better, you do it. You don't trade just to trade."
  11. RIP, very sad occurrence. Can't say I liked the guy either, but he certainly changed baseball. This will be talked about all day and all night now.
  12. Sorry if I wasn't supposed to post this here, just thought people would want to know. Lock it if you want to. And you're welcome BREWCREW5.
  13. http://sports.espn.go.com...10/news/story?id=5374801 A lot of players are in the same boat as he is. Should be interesting.
  14. Why Macha put in Coffey in that spot, who is rusty after coming off the DL, instead of Kameron Loe is beyond me.
  15. Yeah, Hart seems a lock to get picked as a backup and Braun as a starter. Question is, will Yovani get the nod? Could happen. I like how the Brewers now get 2 or 3 guys every year. I remember all the years in the mid 90's to early 2000's when we only had our one guy get in. It's a nice change.I have a gut feeling that Gallardo will get snubbed just based on the wealth of good pitching in the NL this year. Even though he is well deserving of the spot.
  16. I'm pretty sure Hart has locked up his spot on the all-star team now. 18 HR 60 RBI. 1st and 2nd in the league in those categories respectively.
  17. Suppan is starting on Wednesday meaning he'll miss the whole series against the Brewers. I wonder if this was done on purpose?
  18. Idk about Lawrie in RF, but they will have to do something with him because I don't see Weeks going anywhere. I think Hart will still be here in 2012 unless they see it fit to trade him for pitching, although Lawrie could be used in the same capacity I suppose.
  19. Macha will go with a 6-man rotation until the all-star break, and whoever is the worst by then will get pulled. With Wolf getting a free pass, but hopefully not Davis if he sucks in the 2 starts he'll get before the break.
  20. Narveson is certainly keeping up his reputation of getting hammered in the 1st and then being lights out from then on.
  21. If we don't get a run this inning then I will completely give up on this season.
