  1. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/98678964.html Article discussing the possibility of Fielder or Hart being dealt before the deadline. Interesting comment within the article is this... "And, despite all the rumors flying around, I have it on good authority that Melvin has not received one legitimate offer thus far for either Fielder or Hart. Let's see if that changes over the next two weeks."
  2. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/98678964.html Article from TH about the possibility of Fielder being dealt. Thought this was an interesting tidbit. "And, despite all the rumors flying around, I have it on good authority that Melvin has not received one legitimate offer thus far for either Fielder or Hart. Let's see if that changes over the next two weeks."
  3. That opinion is fine and all, if you think he should play full time to see if he can improve I'm ok with it. Just playing him because he got 3 hits the night before isn't a good idea though, That is like starting him just because he is 3 for 6 in his career of some random pitcher. Yeah, and Macha would actually do something like that. He has before. I'm just saying that playing Edmonds so much really does nothing for us is all.
  4. Gomez will never build on good games like that if he sits out the next night. Going 3 for 4 is something he could build off of. Don't see him ever improving if he sits for Edmonds every other day.
  5. Edmonds being a 40-year-old who hasn't done much this year doesn't make him a better choice either. Career numbers mean nothing for him at this point. That's the point I'm trying to make. Macha should ride the hot hand and not play matchups using career numbers.
  6. Yeah I agree that we should just trade him. The chances of us keeping him after this season are slim to none anyway, so we might as well get something for him and fix the logjam in our rotation.
  7. Agreed, I really don't think Cain will be up here for any extended period of time unless Edmonds or Hart gets traded, Gomez gets demoted, or someone gets injured. If none of those happen I don't think we'll see him up here again until September.
  8. You got that right. We have plenty of back-end starters in our system, too many in fact. We need guys who have the potential to become top-end starters. We need a solid #2 guy in our rotation, and we aren't going to get one unless we take a risk.
  9. Yep, because Edmonds has good career numbers against Hudson. Sigh...
  10. Seeing as he'll be sent down on Wednesday when Macha said Gallardo would likely return, that's not too long anyway.
  11. They always say no news is good news, and yes it sometimes tends to get quiet when trades are beginning to become imminent or teams are seriously talking trade and don't want it to get out to other teams. I really don't think the lack of news means much. Fielder and Hart are still on the block and available for the right offer just as they have been all along. I'm not too worried about Doug getting something done before the deadline.
  12. I also don't see Rivas being called up before September in order to save his service time.
  13. Gallardo is eligible to return on Tuesday, and then we have 5 starters already, so it's really only one open start that was created.
  14. I think you're right about Hart, and also I think people are thrown off by Fielder's 50 HR season still. I think he'll turn out be more of a 30-35 HR guy throughout his career, with probably some 40 HR seasons mixed in. I don't see why Gamel couldn't step in and hit 25-30 HR also. So that's not a huge drop-off. I think the main thing to look at here is that we need to steer away from being a HR hitting team anyway. I'd rather use guys like Escobar and Cain to try to manufacture some runs. If we can get on base better the amount of HR's we lose won't matter as much because the HR's we do hit will be 2 and 3 run shots, and not all the solo shots we've been getting this year.
  15. I think whether or not Cain is in the lineup tonight will be an indication of how much he'll play? If he's in the lineup I'd expect him to take over for Gomez in a platoon with Edmonds, if he doesn't I'd expect that he'll play sparingly with a few spot starts here and there.
  16. This also clearly means that they have lost confidence in Gomez. They've played with 4 outfielders for quite awhile. Don't see why they'd need Cain unless they plan on playing him. Maybe this is a tactic to light a fire under Gomez? Although, I hope Cain doesn't get Gamel'd.
  17. This creates a problem for Monday's start, because Gallardo isn't eligible to return until Tuesday. I wonder if Cappy gets the call?
  18. Well that's lame. Davis sure has been a great help to us this year...
  19. I just got an update here and the move that is allowing Lorenzo Cain to be called up is Doug Davis to the DL with left elbow tendinitis. Davis just came back from the DL with inflammation around the lining of his heart. He made one start before the break and now he's being diagnosed with this. Davis made his first start since May 10 a week ago and gave up four runs in five innings of work. This move takes the Brewers back down to 12 pitchers. They had been carrying 13 for a while and when Yovani Gallardo hit the DL, Davis came off and took his place and the Brewers elected to have pitching coverage rather than activate Cain. So maybe this is a sign that Gallardo's recovery is going smoothly and he'll be ready when he is eligible to come off the DL next week. I'll have more on this after I chat with Ken Macha later this afternoon. Nevermind, Davis to DL.
  20. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/98611119.html Lorenzo Cain is getting called up. I wonder if Hart is on the move?
  21. Is Hart on the verge of being traded? Hmm... I also wouldn't mind it if we just demoted Gomez.
  22. Beckham at 3rd, McGehee moves to 1st, Gamel moves to RF when Hart is traded.
