  1. Does anyone have contact info for a good recruiter/headhunter? The job I was supposed to start in January fell through and I'm scrambling to find a new gig. I was working in politics but my background is in marketing/non-profit. I have a MBA and I am also swell guy.
  2. "I had a job interview at an insurance company once, and the lady said "Where do you see yourself in five years?" I said, "Celebrating the fifth year anniversary of you asking me this question." - Mitch Hedberg
  3. You should be applying to a lot more than 2 jobs per week. Yes it sucks, but you have to do it. You already have a huge network. Friends, family, UWM, and any organizations you've been involved with in the past. Reach out to them. You can meet a lot of people volunteering. It's also a good way to feel good about yourself when things aren't great on the job front. Look at organizations that do a lot in the Milwaukee area. Do any of the firms you're interested in working at support non-profits? You can never go wrong with Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, or Boys and Girls Club. Have you considered Americorps? You get paid (a monthly stipend & a lump sum that can be used to pay student loans or grad school) and its a great resume builder. I took a year off during undergrad to volunteer with Americorps. It was a great experience (I turned 21 in Nevada ), and I had a leg up on the competition once I graduated because I already had a year of work experience under my belt. Do you have someone who works in HR who can offer feedback on your resume and cover letter? I thought my resume was great and so did all of my friends and colleagues. I showed my resume to someone who works in HR and she absolutely tore it apart. The difference between a good resume and a poor one could mean thousands of dollars in salary. Make sure you have a great one.
  4. Getting an MBA is great as long as someone else is paying for it. I don't think my MBA has done me much good in terms of landing a high paying job. It's definitely who you know in this economy. I've been sending out approximately 25 resumes a week since September, and I finally have something solid in the works because of a friend who is a big wig in HR. Utilize all of your connections and network. Applying for a job without some sort of "in" is tough and frustrating.
  5. I've dealt with them. They often contact me with opprotunities. But it seems I have to chase after them to follow up. But there was one good guy who was proactive and lined something up for me, but it fell through. I called the recruiter back several times and he has not returned my calls. I'm assuming recruiters are swamped at this point, but its frustrating.
  6. Does anyone have any experience with Aerotec? I submitted my credentials to them about a month ago and a recruiter just called me.
  7. Isn't headhunter synonymous to recruiter? Ideally I'm looking to move to Cali, New Orleans, Seattle, or Alaska.
  8. Has anyone ever used a headhunter? If so, I'd appreciate hearing about your experience. Are there any headhunters you'd recommend? I've been sending resumes for positions I've found on job boards, online, etc, and I haven't had any luck. I have a non-profit and project management background, a mba, and I am willing to move anywhere in the world. Ideally I'd like to get out of the non-profit world so I can actually pay my bills and get ahead. Thanks in advance.
  9. I had a 30 minute phone interview today and I feel like I totally blew it. Should I follow up with the HR manager via email and explain why I would be great for the job, or should I just wait and see? I really want this job!
  10. Do any BFers (or friends/family) work for Insperity? I've been speaking with a recruiter about a PM position, and I was hoping to get more information about the firm.
