  1. especially now that the Dodgers train in AZ, rather than FL. Also, I have beenhanging around the Kloppy campaign so that got my conspiracy juices goingonce again. Also no Cuban no Gilbert no Chance.Curious, who will run the Dodgers for MLB--Stan Kasten is my bet.
  2. With the Dodgers in limbo---Attanasio's LA group will move to buy the Dodgers, sell the Brewers to former Brewers owner John Canning, Jr, of Chicago's Madison Dearborn Partners Investment group. This was done with the Expos-Marlins-Red Sox owners, selling and switching franchises. Dodgers now train in Arizona, too, makingit more attractive to a West Coast buying group. Beyer, Chapus, Stern, Ressler, all west coast people--Dodgersor Brewers? These guys make a living selling high and buying low, Brewers have doubled in value since the purchase---Dodgers are rock bottom right now and the Brewers? Lets see, the Expos were sold by Loria to MLB so he could buy the Marlins from John Henry and Tom Werner who in turn bought the Red Sox. No brainer, its been done before. Plus Canning's group was vetted when they tried to buy the Cubbies.
  3. I agree with you, why Braun dove, and maybe some one else can explain why--- Bill Schroeder said it was a good decision--here are my thoughts:1. Play for the win on the road2. He had absolutely no chance at it---3. Even if he caught it, there would be one run score on the SFbutIf he played it off the hop1.only one or two runs would score instead of three.2.Possibly, bases still juiced for the dp If I am missing something, please let me know. I cannot figure out why Bill would call it a good play! Thanks
  4. Not at all, Brewers have the best starting pitching in the Central, RBI machines with Braun, Fielder, and Casey. Catching will be fineby opening day, only worries at SS and CF offense. Bullpen solid.Other than that, down payments for post season tickets are being accepted by the BrewersI am sure.
  5. Nicely said, great memories about a great manager----who did not have to do that stuff, but did, because he understood what it meant to be in the major leagues. Years lateryou still have a great memory of Sparky.
  6. But it sounds like he will be part of the coaching clan. Not sure who will be RR's pitching coach. Peterson sounds more and more gone. Escobar---rookie, still has a ways to go at SS. ThoughtHardy might have been better this year---obviously not four years from now but for one or two more. I like the hire of RR. Should be good for the team.
  7. less than 30,000 on a beautiful Easter Sunday......one of the greatest sports days in Brewers history. I was seated in the lower box seats! In the sun, 3b side.
  8. He will be missed, great baseball personality, toughest thing about coaching the Big Red Machine he was asked? Toughest was to keep saying "Way to go Johnny, Tony, David, Pete, and Joe." First manager to win a world seriesin both leagues. Was sent to hospice, suffered from dementia.
  9. Not totally surprised over RR's hire as manager. Mark Attamasio obviously liked him, had the final one-on-one interview with him, plus being a west coast guy and former Dodgers player, he had it made. Not sure RR was Doug's first choice. Bobby Valentine? Again, the ex-Dodgersfactor came into play. Peterson is not a given as pitching coach, according to an interview with Belling today. That is news. His brother Gary is in.Now, with the money saved by not signing Valentine, get some pitching, will ya?Good hire, not a retread, I like his aggressive base running attitude! Make things happen with the bottomof the line up. Good Manager hire, Done, CF-Done, 2b-Done, Catcher-Done, SS-? team is looking good.
  10. I agree, seems Lilly does well against the crew. However, I am amazed about Randy Wolf--could hissuper stats in Aug and Sep mean he pitches well when the pressure is off----or did it take four monthsfor him to find his groove. Jorge De la Rosa---big bucks amazing as a FA, seeing Guerillmo Mota in the WSplus he will be an FA. Grant Balfour with TB in post season a FA lots of former Brewersarms floating around. I am intrigued by Arroyo as a FA.
  11. when Prince is gone----move Braun to 1b.
  12. For example, do you think Joe Torre or Bobby Valentine would take any manager's position if they could not name their entire staff? Can't see Bob Melvin would, either, Joey Cora or Tim Wallach? Well-----they might, if desperate. Well said, AS.
  13. in round 2 of the interviews so with the owner and melvin interviewing look for the LA guy to get the job. So that means Roenicke and Wallachwill be in the running because of the Dodgers and Angels connection. If Melvin doesn't hire his choice Melvin or 2nd choice Listach, and Roenickeor Wallach get the job, you can tell who made the decision. No doubt about it. On why he bought the Atlanta Braves, Ted Turner responsed, "So I could getan autographed baseball without begging for it and to get front row seats by the dugout."
  14. How can Zaun be any worse than Kendall? Zaun would have to be spectacularly craptastic for him to be worse than Jason Kendall. Edit: Should probably add my prediction. 89-73.
  15. I love the 90 plus win guys! Enjoy.
  16. Pat and Lisa are divorced, she is living in Texas so she is not an issue.
  17. Multiple folks are saying this. The Brewers have to be one of the better teams at NOT hiring retreads. The Macha hire doesn't make me gun-shy of guys with MLB managerial experience. Terry Francona's won a couple World Series in Boston after winning nothing in Philly. Charlie Manuel won in Philly after not winning in Cleveland. Let's see... Ken Macha - "retread" Ned Yost - rookie mgr Jerry Royster - rookie mgr Davey Lopes - rookie mgr Phil Garner - rookie mgr Tom Trebelhorn - rookie mgr George Bamberger, 2nd time - "retread" ... the last time before Macha the Brewers hired a re-tread was for the '85 season, and his previous experience was managing the Brewers. Only Trebelhorn had a winning record, and only Garner & Yost also had above .500 seasons. Bamberger turned the franchise around, Kuenn won a pennant, Buck Rodgers was a winner, Garner had a winning season, Treb had a winning record, Dave Bristol was a retread. That is why I was a Harry Dalton fan, outside of Lach, all were first timers and pretty successful. If we cannot pay a Showalter or a Torre, go with a new guy. Davey Lopes was a politically correct hire, Royster a fill in--Crandall a familiar face, Alex Grammas? Now---he gives us wonder on why not to hire a new guy as a manager. Point taken.
  18. when an older manager wins, he is a "stabilizing influence", "maturity the team needs", veteran who has beenthrough "the ropes" such as Joe Torre, Bobby Cox, Buck Showalter, and Cito Gaston. When an older managerloses, he cannot "connect", "communicate" or "relate" to the younger players. I think Macha's down side was over-ratedmuch like his up-side. I hope Mark A and Doug do not bring in the "usual suspects" and go out side the managerial boxand sign Pat Listach, Brewers rookie of the year in 1992 and now a third base coach in Washington.
  19. I agree with the players feeling more protective, that is part of the reason. With Koskie, it was common baseball knowledge that the injurywas not 100% from baseball but from some other non-baseball activities. Mike Matheny had concussion problems from catching so manygames, plus an early Brewers player, Al Yates, had to retire from baseball as more on HBP or head hit would kill him. I think the more we know/learn, the more it is publicized, thus severity is increased. Great discussion thread.
  20. Well played, sir. That comment could be hysterical, if it wasn't true, could it be? Most excellent.
  21. About the only city worthwhile from growth now for a team is San Antonio but I don't think the Rayswill move---Brewers will draw close to 3 million, record marketing and sponsorship money and team owner Attanasio is quoted as the team WILL lose money this season. If the Brewers will lose money, how will the Rays NOT lose money and continue to do so? However, I do like Carl Crawford in left field for the Brewers and Ryan Braun to first base. Obviously, our ownership will never sign Prince.
  22. for making the post-season with the Texas Rangers. In Milwaukee, the Brewers went from 13th in the National League in ERA in his first season to second at 3.85 in 2008. He had done wonders with Texas----For $50k or so more, Attanasio could have kept him and who knows what could have happened. As such, Brewers went cheap with Bill Castro, then over-paid for Peterson. Peterson was also interviewed for the Rangers job at that time. I doubt if Cy Young could've gotten anything out of Davis, Suppan, Hoffman and Hawkins, even with his cyber workouts. Considering where some of the pitching came from: Kameron Loe from the Japanese Minor Leagues, Kintzler from Independent A ball, and scrap heap pickup Marco Estrada, maybe I should ease up and consider Peterson a miracle worker. No coach has been able to get much from Manny Parra, DeFelice, Villanueva. Well, Congrats to Mike once again, good luck in the post-season for him and the Rangers, he is a class act.

  24. however, there should be a spot at the ball park or on the walk for special achievements, 600 saves, Vuke's Cy Young, Listach Rookie of the Year, Sutton's Hall of Fame, etc. Some special location or interest, that would be neat.
  25. 83 losses along with a .076 batting average and a 3.72 ERA, qualifies you as a 500 pitcher. Pretty muchthe same stats as Oil Can Boyd and as mentioned Aaron Harang. It was a nice run for the Sheeter but notwalk of fame worthy. I vote for the first aid room naming rights, good one.
