  1. and the old ownership gets audited, to the point of leased cars and front office salaries. New ownership says they are losing money, they are forthright, honest, great ownership. Go figure. Merchandising, 2.8 million in attendance, according to biz VP Schlessingermarketing is all time high in revenue, national broadcasting is huge, but the team will lose money. Wonder if it is a net loss, comparedto operating loss, with debt reduction? It makes me think though, IMHO, if the team cannot make money after three halcyon yearsthen when? Talk about the next radio contact, JComm is bleeding red ink and no longer has the deepest of pockets so that is not the greatestpoint to begin talking about increase b'cast rev. And where is the radio competition? None, Where is the cable TV competition? No one besidesFSN- TWC? They keep eveything local, plus it would not be statewide, so they are not an option. Only other option is a local station with astate wide cable presence.
  2. From the Journal Sentinel August 07, 2010: "The challenges the Brewers are facing also will show up on the financial spreadsheets. Attanasio, the team's principal owner, disclosed that the franchise will lose money this season." "We are going to have 2.7 million this year and we are going to lose money," he said. "I think it's a foregone conclusion that we are going to lose money this year. I don't see any way that's not going to be the case. If you can't stand the heat, don't go into the kitchen. We are committed to putting a winning team on the field. We did everything we could to do that with a big push with pitching. We threw a lot of money at it and it didn't work. We are going to be back to the drawing board and figure it out." No matter who is singing, seems like the same old song, Brewers will lose money...record attendance, record sponsorships, record merchandising, what more can the team do? I guess the team loses money regardless of the ownership. Curious if anyone ever leaked the Brewers financials, along with the Marlins, Pirates, Mariners?
  3. Attanasio and his group have the financial wherewithal to finance anything, as that is there business. Leveraged buy-outs, high-yield bond fund, plus his fortune was made when his company was bought by TCW. He is one of the best in the business, after Michael Milken, Drexel Burnham Lambert Bankruptcy and crash, he was able to return to the markets and finance in a huge way. Yes, he can afford to buy the Dodgers, if not, he can find a way to. Take a look at his biography in the press guide at his business history. Even now, he has bought back Crescent Capital from TCW, being part of his own company. Interesting. Certainly can afford to buy the Dodgers.Plus a $100 million return on his Brewers investment? His partners should be ecstatic.
  4. More truth to the rumor than many think. The majority of the Brewers ownership is from LA, all of Mark's Drexel Burnham Lambert partners, including Robert Beyer, Jean Chapus, Leon Wagner, et all from the Drexel Diaspora would mortgage everything, so to speak, to own the Dodgers. C;mon folks, Brewers vs Dodgers, LA vs Milwaukee, and you are dealing with the Brewers ownership from the West Coast, they would sell in a heartbeat---similar to Montreal, Boston, Florida, other places, where you can buy a team and then sell your old one ( See John Henry-owner of the Red Sox who used to own the Marlins, I believe). Cuban as an owner of the Brewers? John Canning and the local investors are in place to pick up the franchise, and all are FOB, Friends of Bud, while the other owners return home to LA. Canning was rebuffed with the Cubs. The second place finisher in 2004, Dan Gilbert of the Cavaliers has no chance, since his bookmaking collegiate escapades has been made public. Bud could not allow an owner like that and keep Pete Rose out. Harris Turer would be Chief, Canning would be principal, The Dodgers returned to glory, Brewers still have local ownership with principals who know the market.
  5. quote, I give that five stars! Also, FYI, Prince, Yo, and Corey were all drafted pre-new ownership, along with the others.....Brauny and CC were Mark's tenure and five stars on both. He made some comment on TV something like "he had friends who scouted our first pick in LA area?" I did not get the entire comment....any help? Thanks
  6. Mr. Attanasio is behind more moves than you think. Regarding Soup, Doug had him traded to another team, lock and stock, full rack rate and MA vetoed the trade. I heard this through another team's pipeline. Gagne? Of course. He was Cy Young in Los Angeles! Firing Yost? Either Ned went or both Doug and Ned. He was behind the Bill Castro firing too, under "We gotta do something" heading. I'm sure he calls Doug five times a day for updates and sharing his ideas. One more thing, I read about the ownership worried about losing money this year, small market when it comes to signing free agents and signing Prince, sounds tremendously like the previous ownership. Except we get "He's a great owner" from others on this website when it was "whining" with previous group. Same-old, same-old. Amazing, attendance is record highs, marketing is all time high, sponsorship is 100 plus companies, and the team cannot sign Prince and is losing money. Right. BTW, ownership did not want to pay Mike Maddux and look what he has done with an average staff in Texas. Wish he was still here.
  7. Batter is out, runner must be in the runner's box. It is never called. See rule 6.05k comment along with the case book.
  8. It is amazing that Donald, outside of running his butt off to first, as if it was game 7 of the World Series, was technically out for running inside fair territory and not in the runners box towards first. Home plate umpire could have called him out for running outside of the baseline and running in fair territory. And the point of this is: That's baseball.
  9. Griffey, Jr was great with the fans on the visitor's on-deck circle. Always pleasant, visited with kids sitting there. Class Act. Junior, you will be missed. I'm sure he would have gotten 700 HR's and 3,000 hits without his injuries--
  10. I forgot about overpaying for David Riske. For a point of information, Riskes' contract was similar to Ted Higuera's contract that got Harry Dalton fired. How times have changed. Hoffman was worth it last year, and Gagne? I will blame Attanasio on that one, as he remembered when Gagne was Cy Young for the Dodgers. Glad the point about Castro was taken, yes, he was a scapegoat, and a tragedy to a good baseball man. He deserved better but again, I do not think it was Melvin's decision, I think it was made in LA. Do you think the Brewers overpaid for Randy Wolf?
  11. While Joyce blew the call, messed up the chance for history, I don't know how you can use video for every baseball close out-safe call. There are too many other factors, such as the "neighborhood" play, the first baseman pulling off the base, etc. Still I feel God-awful for the Tiger pitcher. He showed nothing but class, I admire his attitude, whether it was the great play the CF made or the blown call.
  12. Jeff Suppan is just an example of the Milwaukee market. Doug Melvin has to over pay to get a free agent to even sniff coming to Milwaukee. Soup was the best he could do at the price. If anyone thinks CC or Cliff Lee would/will sign for the "going rate" to stay or come to Milwaukee you're dreaming. Sorry fans, it is a fact of life. In fact Dave Bush could be getting Soup money for next season. Also, where is the chatter about the pitching coach? At least Bill Castro got more out of Hoffman and Suppan than Peterson. Amazing but true. Nary a word. Sign Prince Now.
  13. 350 million, a 60% return on your investment? Now only if my TCW funds had a 60% return since 2005. Sign Prince Now---no excuses. Franchise value all time high, ticket sales, all time high, marketing and sponsorship, all time high. Sign Prince!
  14. I forgot one more prediction: Ownership opens up wallets and signs Prince Fielder for 6 years $140 million dollars. These are the best of times, says Doug Melvin. Ticket sales, interest, marketing and sponsorship dollars at all time high. Also, I agree with SoCal's 3b thoughts along CF, however, if that was the case with catching, why did Kendall start almost the season? Not sure Zaunie can.
  15. 80-82, strength up the middle, compare to 09, worse at catcher with Zaun, worse at CF Gomez, 2nd base Weeks? and SS Escobar are still question marks. Corey Hart? 3b? We have two number 2 pitchers Gallardo and Wolf and a #4 starter Davis. Hells Bells is another year older, walked too many guys last year. Another prediction, 2010 Number 2, Attanasio will sell the Brewers and he and his ownership group will pick up the mess in Los Angeles at Chavez Ravine, after the dirt flies with the McCourts and the Dodgers. Closer to home and a bigger fish in the MLB pond. #3 Madison Dearborn Partners will buy the Brewers after the LA folks buy the Dodgers. #4 Jim Edmonds will be the starting CF by May 1st. #5, Why did the Brewers let Mike Maddux go---and now pay the same money for Peterson? #6 No depth at Catcher.
  16. If its fame and not just a walk, Lew Burdette from the 57 series and long career with the Braves should be there. Brewers? None yet to be added, except for maybe a Rookie of the Year Star with Listach, Parsons, and Braun. Bill Parsons actually won the award in 1971 when The Sporting News and Baseball Digest were still relevant. As for who is John Barnes? To quote Roy Hobbs "There goes the best there ever was."
