People need to understand how quickly the game is evolving and how much Sabermetrics were applied in the Royals development of back to back World Series appearances and one World Championship. The Royals correctly built that team on pitching & defense. It doesn't take a sabermetrician to tell you that in most sports, "defense wins championships". The Royals took it a step further though with that incredible bullpen that shortened games. Give them a lead in the 6th inning and the game was essentially over. I think that is a trend that will only continue. The Royals also correctly determined that in a pitching era like we are now in, very athletic players who are high contact hitters are more valuable than the traditional old paradigm saber darlings with a high OBP and high OPS. ...strike outs DO matter, after all!!! I knew it!!!
I just want to add one point to the discussion. With two wild-cards now available, the opportunity to just "get in" are greatly enhanced. My point is, the 'Crew could finish 3rd in the division, still qualify, then roll the playoff dice.
Agreed, no pressure to go out and score 20-a-night. My point was that w/o Ersan and Dudley, Jabri and Giannis will have greater roles to take more shots and shots in high(er) pressure situations. This is good (IMO), will facilitate their growth.
I really like the roster construction. While this puts a bit more stress on Giannis and Jabri to score, if we look at 2015-16 as step towards making a run in 16-17 and 17-18, I think the Bucks are on the right track. We are going to find out on MCW, too.
This might be a trade that neither team got fleeced. Wilmer gives a cheap option at 3rd and Wheeler should be a viable option for sure by 2017. I hope this is a sign that the 'Crew is willing to take a bit of time to reboot for the 2017 championship season.
From what little I understand, the Assembly plans to pass the bill w/o amendment so that it doesn't have to return to the Senate or to a conference committee.
I see this year as a combo of "going for it" and developmental. No question the Bucks should be better. I don't know about getting out of the East, but a first round home series and advancing to the second would seem to be a successful year. MCW has the inside track, clearly, but Jason has options if needed. This time next summer I'd before moving MCW if his game doesn't advance.
