  1. What a joke that Katin hasn't gotten a shot. After this year, when his contract is up, he can sign with a team that'll actually may good use of him and bring him to hit bombs off the bench. Until then I guess we'll just have to settle for watching him lead the pacific league in ops again.
  2. Katin. The guy can straight up obliterate the ball. He plays in one spring training game and what do you know? Goes deep as usual. Plays again today and gets another hit. Has a strong arm too. At the least he's a nice big bat off the bench and trade bait even if he doesn't pan out with this team. Wait past this year and he could be completely wasted. He's earned a shot.
  3. While the debate around the merits of MLE continue on this thread, let me just remind everyone that Katin continues to rake. HR and 4 RBI today takes him to 25 and 74 for the year.
  4. 3 more today for Katin. No call up, might as well trade the guy and get something for him. Moreover, would give him a shot to rake in the majors as he's earned it.
  5. He deserves a shot, that's all I'm saying. http://web.minorleaguebas...recap&fext=.jsp&sid=t556
  6. re: katin - you can't say I haven't been saying it for a while. This kid deserves a shot. I really don't know what else he can do to prove that.
  7. Hammers the ball, having a great year, and has a cannon for an arm. An absolute joke if he isn't given a shot at the major league level just at least to evaluate him for long term plan. Righteously has been criticized for poor plate discipline with high K/BB ratio, but even has that way down this year. Would be a different story if the team was contending and stacked in the outfield and if he was 23. The team is out, the team's outfield could use another big bat, at least off the bench, and a good arm, and he's 27 so why not find out what he can do while he could still do it? At the very least a good showing as a call up would allow for a trade possibility if he remains outside the long term plan. Not much downside here to a call up; good risk/reward if you ask me.
  8. http://www.baseball-refer...layers/r/reynoma01.shtml By the way, Katin is 2/4 with 2 RBI's and a walk tonight. Call the kid up, big bat off the bench, good arm, low risk move.
  9. ...and he continues to rake and even draw walks at a decent rate.
  10. Another long ball for Katin tonight. In the top 5 in the Pacific league for OPS and slugging, just saying.
  11. Katin seems to have recovered well from his recent knee troubles. Dude is raking again. Interesting to see if he finally gets a shot as a big bat off the bench.
  12. Another HR for Katin last night. Following this Brewers-Cubs game, man, how badly do this RF squad have to play to warrant a shot?? Gerut 0/3 today with a .143 avg. so far.
  13. Brendan Katin is officially on fire. Yes, it's only 4 games. However, the biggest knock against him, his patience, is looking much improved with 4 BB's already. Obviously his power continues to be ridiculous with a league-leading 3 HR's already, a league-lead in slugging, and 2nd place in OPS. Oh, and he had an outfield assist yesterday too just for kicks. If he can keep his BB's up this guy should finally get his shot with the big boys. Edmonds/Hart/Gerut in RF are arguably the weakest position on the team, Katin could add a threat out there.
  14. Another HR and BB last night. Seems to be getting regular BB's over the last month or so. Wouldn't be surprised to see him moved up for a big bat off the bench or traded for decent value soon.
  15. Agreed - No doubt that he has to continue walking more as he's done lately. That being said, a hanging curve is a hanging curve whether in the triple-A all star game or in the majors. No reason to believe he won't hit it out in the majors the same way he did last night.
  16. Monster shot as an all-star. You cannot teach that degree of raw power. A little more plate discipline and he should be called up.
  17. You like to bring up stats like RBI's but you do not like when people bring up the fact that in AAA not the majors he is striking out 30% of the time he gets up. His K% is the same as his OBP which is .305. He has a nice OPS, but he is more than likely going to be eaten alive by major league pitching if he strikes out that much in AAA. And he really is not tearing up right now. In June he has an OPS of .767 while striking out over 1/3 of his PA. 34 K's to 3 BB. So, in the last month his OPS is .012 points higher than Hart's in AAA opposed to the Majors. The reality is Katin had a great May but his April and June have been okay. He needs to string a couple months together to get a shot. He has got great numbers with runners on but overall they are not extremely impressive to warrant a call-up. There is no doubt that his K/BB ratio is worrisome. I wouldn't deny that. I also, as you mention, do admit to bringing up RBI's a lot. Why? Because at the end of the day, they matter more. If a guy strikes out a lot, especially without runners on, but happens to get big hits regularly when his teammates are on base, I think that speaks to a pretty important attribute. Clutch hitting is big. No doubt you and many others have a good point that his K's are an issue and that his selection has to improve, but let's not deny the importance of getting hits when they really matter. Leading all of AAA baseball in RBI's should not be taken lightly.
  18. Katin now leads all of AAA in RBI's. Is anyone watching Hart and Catalanotto? I mean, even if Katin wasn't tearing it up, I'd say give him a shot.
  19. Katin's updated MLE stats: BA/OBP/SLG = .241/.265/.471 Catalanotto this year = .208/.269/.292 Katin is 2nd in the Pacific League for RBI's, 3 for total bases, 10th in slugging, 5th for home runs. I think it will be tough for Brewers' management to not bring him up in September. He warrants a chance to back Hart up more than Catalanotto at the very least.
  20. Another HR and 2B tonight. In the top 5 of AAA for HR and RBI. In the top 10 for SLG and in the top 20 for OPS. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=l_bat&lid=112
  21. It's time to bring up Katin. Hart is lost out there. Gerut/Catalanotto are filling in terribly. Katin is killing it and carrying Nashville down in AAA right now. Sure he will probably rack up some K's when he is brought up, but he'll probably hit a few into the upper deck at clutch moments also. It's time to give him a shot.
  22. Hart continues to set new lows, time to give him a rest. How much longer for Katin? The Cubs are gaining ground. Give the kid a shot.
  23. Your condescension toward anyone who disagrees with you is not helping you prove your point. We get that you like Katin and he very well could be a good option out in right field. What other people are trying to point is that although he has great power numbers his lack of plate discipline could be a big reason why he is not called up yet. No one is denying he has very good power and that he has an extremely hot bat right now. You like and want him up right now and others think he would struggle with MLB pitching. You are correct. I apologize for my tone, just got frustrated and caught up in the moment trying to prove a point I'm passionate about. Not an excuse though, I apologize for the unnecessary negativity.
  24. LouisEly - Apparently that doesn't matter. Someone will now write back that Katin strikes out a lot and doesn't walk enough. That he only gets on base less than 33% of the time (even though as I mentioned earlier in this thread that's fairly comparable to Hart and Catalanotto). It doesn't matter that he's leading the team in rbi's with clutch hitting and that he has a gun for an arm that is a defensive weapon. Doesn't matter that Hart can't hit the broadside of a barn these days (actually since the second half of last season with one of the worst playoff appearances you can look at - Phillies series anyone?). Nope, there will be a rebuttal. If only Katin could trade his rbi's and home runs for just a few walks, then he'd be a major leaguer. Thankfully the doubters aren't the GM and hopefully the GM has some sense and gives this guy the shot he deserves.
  25. What mle calculator did you use, those #s don't match up at all with the mle calculators I've found.
