  1. I think a BEST case scenario for a trade would really be what OKC got back for Paul George last year. They got a massive return for him. A young star player and a LOT of future firsts. I mean...that'll look nice a year from now if Giannis leaves and we've got nothing, but I'd much-much rather just go with Giannis for another year and then tear it all down for about 5 years and rebuild. If they do this though, they need to do a Sixers like rebuild.
  2. Ersan's salary can't be used in trades.
  3. The point is, it didn't really mean anything. We had guys who got arrested, we had guys who got suspended, we had guys who did stupid things...so claiming we had some moral high ground was always just annoying to me.(And the justification for fans when Thompson didn't sign guys). If you really did have a standard, you don't ever bring in Colt Lyerla...but he was an extraordinarily talented TE out of Oregon. I think the Packers did the same math MOST other teams did. Is he good enough to overlook the bad stuff? That was pretty much it.
  4. Rodgers actually stuck up for him pretty strongly today on McAfee's show. Calling it cowardly and ridiculous to call him out after 6 weeks. I wonder if THAT will make news? That the guy Rodgers "ran off" is the guy who he's defending now? Yeah, I agree with Rodgers there. Dallas was pretty mediocre for their talent level under Garrett too, so perhaps it's time the players there look in the mirror a little bit at the problem. I'm not a big fan of the concept of "Packer people", but Dallas is notorious for not giving two rips about character. They'll hire every troubled thug they can get their hands on (see Aldon Smith, Randy Gregory, etc). Jerry couldn't care less about your off the field issues as long as you have talent. So I really don't think it's a coincidence that their team chemistry and locker room always sucks. Dallas is kinda built like how most fans would build a team. Flashy WR'ers, big names on Defense who are terrible(relative to their pay) and now Dak's out as are almost all of their starters on the OL. And yeah, they will bring in Pablo Escobar or El Chapo if they think they'll get a few sacks. La'el Collins was wrongly implicated in a double homicide and went from a early 1st round pick to an UDFA and of course he ended up in Dallas with an unprecedented deal for an UDFA. They happened to be right in that case, but I wonder how much they actually vetted him. I am glad I don't hear the whole "Packer people" nonsense as much anymore since it never really made a ton of sense, but there definitely needs to be a balance. You can give some guys a second chance. Aldon Smith may be worth one for instance. And you can't have 54 choir boys... Anyway, The Pat McAfee show has given me more insight into how the Packers do things than anything over the past 20 or so years. The way Pat's shocked at how dull the Packers really are(no Alcohol on planes, no tramadol before games...which might contribute to Packers players missing more games due to injury)...and just Rodgers and the way he opens up. It's a pretty cool segment every Tues and it's as unbuttoned as I'm guessing anyone who doesn't know Rodgers will see him.
  5. Agreed...he was supposed to be the perfect compliment to Savage(Who was compared to Earl Thomas in scouting reports). Still, even if you think he hasn't played up to expectations, he'd only save the Packers 4.5 million...and at 10 a year, if he's overpaid, it's not by much. It just adds a hole next year. And they may have to fill in holes at CB, C, OT, DL, MLB, WR'er. So I'd hope they'd hold onto him, hope the defense around him and play to his strengths. It's also a little hard to tell what a safety's doing exactly. He's not making big plays, but it's hard to see what he's taking away or how his coverage is from the TV. The Bears were high on him for just...like you said, being in the right place, getting the defense lined up and they thought he was underrated. So...there may just be things we can't see. But I did hope for more from Amos.
  6. Packers sign James Burgress(from the Falcons). He played in New York last year...so he's leaving Adam Gase. No reason he shouldn't be an All-Pro, right? Leave Gase and vastly increase. https://www.ganggreennation.com/2019/7/21/20694826/scouting-jets-linebacker-james-burgess A pretty detailed scouting report on him from last year.
  7. Rodgers actually stuck up for him pretty strongly today on McAfee's show. Calling it cowardly and ridiculous to call him out after 6 weeks. I wonder if THAT will make news? That the guy Rodgers "ran off" is the guy who he's defending now?
  8. What's really disturbing is that schmucks like me were saying this on page one days before the game. It was a very obvious thing. Now, they got 25 of those yards on one play and I think 20 on another. But there shouldn't have been any lateral runs on that defense. Correct. Our coaches seem to overthink things. The first outside run should’ve been after 15 attempts up the gut. Really poor coaching all around yesterday. Yeah...LaFleur had a terrible game plan yesterday and did a poor job adjusting. He's a young coach and we've played well, so hopefully, he'll do better in the future. You can run outside and do those little pitches only if you've got them on their heels and you're pounding the ball down their throats. If you're not consistently doing anything, White and David are just too athletic.
  9. EQ gets a mulligan like the rest of the team. He needs time to get into a rhythm with Rodgers and maybe he'll make some plays. But 1st game since December 2018. There was bound to be a bit of rust.
  10. Wow! That's a scorching hot take to end all hot takes. I couldn't get past the first sentence. Does this moron really think this game is evidence why they drafted Love?
  11. Garrett? I think you're a year behind, he's in New York...which to be fair is terrible and he should be fired from there as well, but if you thought enough of him to hire him before this season, firing him wouldn't make much sense as he has almost nothing to work with. Not even Barkley.
  12. The plan in GB was "let Aaron Rodgers do stuff". Seemed to be working for Dak too. Not so much with Andy. Andy Dalton should be able to lead that offense to a winning record. Dalton's not great, but he's not a scrub. Though they are down Smith, Frederick, and Collins from last year. That's 3 All-Pro Caliber OL. Still, best trio of WR'ers in the NFL and Zeke.
  13. Yeah, I thought he was good. I remember taking to a guy who works in the Athletic Department just raving about him and he went to a school close to where I grew up. I can't remember the name of it, but I thought it was a small private school(which made him a bit of an outlier). I could be wrong about that. But it seemed like they were pretty excited...like maybe he could be another Joe Thomas-esque talent. I might be combining guys, but I thought he was a really good BB player as well. So his footwork, size, pretty much everything was going for him. Tough break. Knee injuries IIRC. Similar to Costigan. Cost both of them a chance to play at the next level.
  14. Oh Gawd...he'd better be. Honestly, the biggest trade I'd like to make right now would be Williams from the Jets. GREGG Williams. I don't care about Bounty-Gate, he's a hard ass who puts his players in good positions to get the most out of them. He should be coming on the market after this season. I'd really love to see him and his aggressive 34 over Pettine's. On the zone blitz...with Adams and Preston Smith dropping, that's fine to run, but the ENTIRE point of that is you've got other guys coming so that the QB has to get rid of the ball quickly to his safety valve and thus the fat guy doesn't have to cover much ground or maybe he's not even seen by the QB(think Packers-Bears on that Raji TD). But hey, can't argue with dropping Preston Smith in coverage, right? I mean, when you've got Derrick Brooks...what, are you NOT gonna drop him into coverage? Clearly the reason we handed out 4/56 to Preston was to come in, get 12 sacks, 32 QB hits, be in the top 10 in pressures...then...and this is key, you REALLY throw the opposing offenses for a loop when you drop him into coverage OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. That IS where he thrives. Covering his 3 yard patch of dirt about and dropping into that hook zone. I don't recall the last time I really wanted a coach to be fired as badly as I want Pettine gone. I wanted McCarthy gone, but I almost felt bad because I thought he was good and then just got stale. But Pettine...he's never been good. He was gifted three elite players in his front 7, a budding young superstar at CB, a solid secondary and he can't make anything happen with them?
  15. Ok...cool. So he saw the problem and addressed it. That's refreshing. More than who thinks? I think Lazard was playing well...he is a great blocking WR'er and a big target, but I don't think he's making that big of a difference in a game like yesterday. He takes a while to get open on his routes due to the fact that he's slow. We weren't hitting any of those big plays that Lazard got a few weeks ago because those were all plays that Rodgers had to hold the ball for 4 seconds or so. He wasn't able to hold the ball anywhere near that long. I think it'd be really nice to get Lazard back. I think the loss of Ervin hurt us far more than the loss of Lazard did...but yes, of course we're missing him. He was a starter. But he shouldn't make that big of a difference.
  16. I kinda agree with you. You don't literally need to play cover 0. You can play with a single high and then shade him over to Gronk or Evans. On the TD that put the game away, we ran a cover 0 and Brady just threw it up for Gronk for an easy ~20 yard TD. On the deep ball to that little annoying guy named Scotty where Jackson was in perfect position...yet for whatever reason decided he'd rather NOT turn his head around and try and play the ball, they were sending pressure. I think it shows how important it is to have King out there. I think Jackson still can salvage his career, but he was obviously not comfortable. Going against Brady(even a declining Brady) and a couple of elite WR'ers can do that to a guy who hasn't gotten much PT. The guy who really has to step up is Savage. He REALLY flashed at times last year...he helped in the run game, he was all over the field. He was making the rookie mistakes you'd expect, but he was flashing. I've seen nothing from him this year. Amos at the other spot was never really expected to come in and be a Sharper/Woodson type player who created turnovers, just a steady, reliable DB. You traded up to get him, he needs to play better.
  17. I disagree with a couple points. 1st-They didn't come out flat. That's what's the most frustrating. They came out and absolutely dominated. They didn't finish the first drive, but they finished the 2nd. Then Rodgers threw that terrible pick...THEN they started to look flat....which leads me to 2-That wasn't a bad window, that was a routine slant to Adams and it hit him in both of his hands for what should have been a 1st down. I can get past both of those because it's Rodgers and Adams. How often does 12 throw a weak ball on a field out and then how often does Adams just have one go right off his hands when he's not trying to run after the catch? 3-With regard to Rodgers being better without Adams...I'm not convinced that's the case(though the stats may say otherwise). To me it was just baffling to see our offense SO stagnant. ALL the stuff that's made us look good in the past few weeks just thrown out the window. The pre-snap motion, the mis-direction. This was much more like a Mike McCarthy outdated scheme than the one MLF's been getting praised for. I mention in one of my obnoxiously long posts in the transaction threads, but I think the Packers should take a hard look at John Ross. I don't expect he'll resurect his career as a #1 WR'er, but he looks to me EXACTLY like the type of player you'd want playing whatever hybrid position that Tyler Ervin is. They can't possibly have pinned so much of their hopes on the play of Tyler friggin Ervin, right? I mean...he's a nice player, but that offense looked totally different yesterday. It looked like last years. Tampa definitely beat us badly, but you're also 100 pct right, they didn't take us out of our game....we did that. You spot that offense 14 points, then you fall further behind against the #1 pass rush in the NFL...bad things are gonna happen! On balance I agree with most of what you said. I don't think this makes the Buccs favorites for the NFC. It'll change this week and it'll be Seattle, TB and then us or even Chicago(which....isn't gonna happen). But this is NOT like the 49'ers loss. We got beat, but we were a drive away from completely taking control of the game. If we lose a game and you can point to Aaron Rodgers throwing picks as the reason, there's a pretty good chance that won't repeat itself. Oh, and with regard to the bad weak of practice, what the hell is that? I heard Rodgers complaining(that might be strong, maybe pointing out would be more accurate) how they didn't really get a bye week. So in that sense when you're expecting a bye week mentally and you're coming in every day to get tested and you don't have anywhere to go, I can absolutely see how that would get dull and how the practice could drop. Good news, on top of Tonyan and Bahk's injuries not being too bad, I'll throw EQ St. Brown was on the field. He didn't look good(though the 2nd pass that fans were saying he dropped was on Rodgers)...but he was out there and moving well. Rodgers was talking about how much he likes him because he catches with his hands and it gives him a wide catch radius, but he had a bad day, but he played and he was healthy. And Dillon got some run. And he looked good. So...two guys didn't get hurt, a guy who has been hurt played poorly but played and our 2nd round pick got a few carries. Christ...can you find worse "good takeaway's" from a game? Still, I like our chances, but for the love of God Gute, get on the phone. Don't let another D-Hop get traded for a 4th rounder! Maybe show a little initiative. I don't expect you to ACTUALLY trade a 1st rounder for the guy I like, but you'd better do something. I think it's a real bad sign if they don't make a fairly significant move between now and the deadline.
  18. I think you think a bit highly of yourself. Who's obsessed? I DO find it funny that you've been a "die hard" NFL fan since 1977 but you've also given up on watching the NFL so much so that you struggle to be around people who ARE NFL fans because you have "awkward encounters" with fans who ask you why you DON'T watch the NFL anymore. I feel like "diehard" here is a little bit more akin to "every 7 or 8 years when my part time team wins I get to rub it in fellow Brewers fans faces." And that's fine... I would question the "so many others" who quit watching Football...but I just don't care enough and that seems like it's destined to veer off(as if this already hasn't).
  19. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/30144515/new-york-jets-adam-gase-happy-defensive-coordinator-gregg-williams-veiled-shot-offense Pretty much every player who's made "critiques" of the flawless operation that Adam Gase has going in New York has been shipped out...so...here's hoping.
  20. Shows how terrible NFL refs are. I don’t care how disciplined of a game you play in football, there are penalties on both sides. Today’s game it just wouldn’t of mattered. They were flagged for roughing Rodgers but it was a play he was called for grounding. Which I thought was a pretty bad call. He had Williams in the flat. The ball was 10 yards short of him, but he was getting hit. They certainly eat the flag on a lot of other more egregious intentional groundings.
  21. Devin's career high in IP professionally was 97 back in 2016. In the three seasons since TJ he has thrown 34, 70 & 27 innings. I don't think he has the stamina built up to start, even 26 GS @ 5 IP each would be as many innings as he's thrown in the last three years combined, a 100+ IP jump from last year alone, almost double his post-TJ season high & a 33 IP increase over his career high from four years (& one UCL) ago. I'm not arguing for or against(it seems as though the Brewers have made that decision), but would the TJ surgery really be a reason why? Once you've had it done, it's not like you're permantely weakened by it. I would think he'd be able to build his arm strength...enough at least that he could throw ~150 innings next year, especially if he could be skipped, but it all kinda seems moot as the Brewers seem to have determined both he and Rasmussen are relievers moving forward, not starters.
  22. Or it could be that they think more highly of Urias than some fans do. Or it could mean they've upgrade other area's and simply haven't been able to upgrade 3rd base. I don't know, it's a bit early to say if a certain player starts at 3rd base, that's a sign they "aren't even trying to win." Short of signing LaStella(who many are not a fan of) or Turner(who's 36)...it's not like there are a whole lot of options in free agency. What's more, even if that's their "preferred" lineup or their opening day lineup, it's pretty obvious that would mean little. Gyorko could obviously play there, any potential signing may play 1st base...or hell, any number of lineup configurations. But I'm fairly certain that the Brewers will attempt to upgrade 3rd base as well as 1st and if they're not able to do so due to financial limitations, they can try in-season...EITHER way, I am certain following three straight playoff runs, they'll try to win.
  23. I don't know if they will or won't, but I know they're at least more on track than at any other point in my lifetime(born after the '82 team...barely).
  24. I was wondering that myself during the year. I took the fact that he was seldom used for multiple innings as an answer. If he could throw 90-100 pitches every 5 days, would he really even need a 3rd pitch? Sheets was pretty successful when healthy relying mainly on two pitches.
  25. I'll wait a bit before making a judgement. Giving up a 6th for McLendon and a 7th isn't all that bold...but they'd better do something. Gute was bold during the off-season two years ago and has done little sense to help the team. He specifically said he was going to be aggressive in pursuing veterans in-season. I guess Veldheer was kinda bold, but they need badly to do something this year. Everyone's got Cap problems. Ours are hardly big enough to stop us from adding a player who can help us this year. There are a dozen different ways to free up some cap room.
