  1. You should probably go back and re-read that quote and correct yourself. But still, it's not nearly as hyperbolic as anyone claiming to have seen anything out of Love to justify an evaluation of his possible success, right? If only ANYONE was making that argument....
  2. Is this supposed to be in blue or are you serious? What about my post makes you think I'm not serious? Where in your original post did you say unlikely? "Sure...it's an opinion...that it's unlikely our next QB's down season will look like Aaron Rodgers when his team goes 13-3 and he throws 24/4 in what is considered a down year(his first year in a new system)." Right up there
  3. Trey Lance is the 100MPH thrower who can't find home plate. The Niners hope to teach him control... Good Luck with that. Is that just because he played at a small school? SF gets a guy who's faster than Lamar, has a huge arm and...from what I've seen, a pretty accurate one. And he gets the added benefit of being able to sit for a year behind Jimmy G. I'd have much rather seen them take Jones instead of Lance or Fields.
  4. Is this supposed to be in blue or are you serious? Pointing out it's unlikely that the Packers next QB will be as good as Aaron Rodgers sounds to YOU like a Packers fan who "couldn't possibly envision how the Packers could win without Favre?" Is this going to be the only response from now on? If you question that just maybe losing Rodgers doesn't make the Packers better the ONLY response is, "but Rodgers?"
  5. Ok? You realize the entire discussion was about what they'd done to win the last couple seasons, right? And if you take each QB away, I think it's not hard to make the argument that the Saints are set up for success at LEAST as much as the Packers.
  6. And one of those teams will be competing for a Super Bowl next year, the other will be starting either Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill at QB and PRAYING for a playoff spot. So what? That's usually what happens when your HOF QB retires. You see a drop off in play. Either way, I simply pointed out the Packers have NOT done nearly as much as teams like TB and the Saints(or the Chiefs for that matter).
  7. Opinion vs. fact, no? Sure...it's an opinion...that it's unlikely our next QB's down season will look like Aaron Rodgers when his team goes 13-3 and he throws 24/4 in what is considered a down year(his first year in a new system). It's entirely possible that Jordan Love will be as good as Rodgers or better I guess.
  8. You can argue that it's a fallacy that the problem is offensive weapons...but you can also make a pretty strong argument that they've done less than just about every other contender. It isn't lost on me that the Packer FO has been moving heaven and earth the past two offseasons doing salary cap gymnastics to get their premium players extended/resigned through Rodgers' window, bringing in quality veteran free agents to fill gaping holes in their defense created under the previous GM's draft misses, all the while attempting to get Rodgers an extension that probably would have made things much easier to make more moves that would resemble "getting him help". I'm no fanboy of Tom Brady, but look at what he's done in terms of his contracts over the years and how much that has helped teams he played on going out and bringing in help. Moving heaven and earth the last two off-seasons? It was just last year they moved up for a QB in the 1st round. It was last year they neglected the DL after getting abused vs the 49ers and this year they resigned Jones for a pretty reasonable deal...other than that, they pushed the cap hits one year into the future. The Saints have moved Heaven and Earth to win...the Packers? Please.
  9. How did they tick him off? I'm assuming he's mad because they had the nerve to draft his replacement when he didn't want to go. Well he had a pretty pedestrian 2019 so they had reason to think that a 37YO QB was declining and they needed to consider a replacement. He kept quite until he had his MVP season then within minutes of that season ending started his scorched earth approach. As people who know him have leaked he takes any slight and revisits it over and over and over again. His actions these last few months clearly is his revenge for the nerve of the Packers considering replacing him. He's Aaron Rodgers...!!! We're going to BEG for that type of "pedestrian" season once Rodgers leaves.
  10. Right...I said keep him in the loop though, not take his input. Just communicate with him...and again, I'll use Russell Wilson as an example. He reportedly wanted out of Seattle and they'd kept him far more involved by all accounts than the Packers had with Rodgers. That's a little bit different than demanding that a team trade their first-round pick. Players and teams having falling outs...but I've never heard of any NFL Agent doing this.
  11. I don't think it has been at all. As far as the commitment...I would guess he'd say when you trade up for a QB in the 1st round, you don't feel all that committed. It is certainly possible for a team to be committed to success both in the present and in the future, though. This doesn't have to be an either/or situation. Of course, but if you're Aaron Rodgers and you've been to the NFFCG that season and you've said you want to play well into your 40's, your dream is to play for one team...etc...etc...then picking a QB in the 1st round likely felt like they aren't committed to him long term. He was probably a bit just...dumbfounded. He'd dragged that team to the playoffs a number of times, into the NFFCG just a few years before that vs ATL and now they're this close and they take a QB. You can see from his perspective how that might be a bit contradictory, right?
  12. Or they'll extend Rodgers and he'll play in Green Bay this season. Or they won't extend him and trade him after next season. Until Rodgers or Dunn demands a trade or says anything publicly, I don't think there is a guarantee that it's headed for quite such a disastrous end. Or that it's even true for that matter. We see how guys like Rob Demovsky love to just stir crap up.
  13. I don't think it has been at all. As far as the commitment...I would guess he'd say when you trade up for a QB in the 1st round, you don't feel all that committed.
  14. We should also remember that immediately after the NFCCG he made some VERY vague and general statements about how he doesn't know what the future holds for him or other players on the team...and then people immediately picked that up and ran with it. Wilbon said that he guaranteed after that statement, Rodgers had played his last game in Green Bay. Then we actually heard from Rodgers just a couple days later and he was kinda dumbfounded that it was as big of a deal as it was. I think there's probably a little more to this...but I think it's also not nearly as big of a story at they're making it out to be. Mark Schelrleth is on the radio apparently in Denver saying a deal is almost complete again today. How in the hell would he know? What is Denver going to give us? Bolles, Surtain, Jeudy, Lock and their next 3 1st round picks? Just how good would the offer have to be in order to justify trading him?
  15. You can argue that it's a fallacy that the problem is offensive weapons...but you can also make a pretty strong argument that they've done less than just about every other contender.
  16. I don't think anyone ever expects the type of season he had this year...but I think quite a few people thought he'd have a pretty big bounce back and be in that MVP conversation. This offense really takes off for a QB in their 2nd year in it. I'd hope the team would know that. I really think they just thought Love was THAT good and they had to take him. And in their defense, there were a lot of people who thought he'd go in the top 10 last year, possibly to the Chargers who weren't certain about Herbert until late in the process. One thing that really hurts the perception of Love, he had this huge year his first year as a starter, then they lost pretty much the entire offense. His top 6 receivers, his entire OL, 3rd new offensive system in 3 years there. If he goes back, maybe it's between him and Wilson for the top QB from Utah. Or maybe he struggles again...but there's just so little known about him. At least we'll get to see him in the Pre-season. That should give us some general indication if he's moving in the right direction or not.
  17. Yeah, but I think that's been placed on Gute when most of the issue arose because of Ted Thompson's draft record near the end and his avoidance of the FA market to address deficiencies. The Packer's record really hid the fact that there was a huge talent dropoff at many positions during that time and Gute has had to address those both through the draft and by spending a lot of money in FA to get more talent back onto the team. You can only upgrade so much at-a-time, but the press seems to think that the 2020 Packers are no different than the 2016 Packers and Gute just fiddles while Rodger's burns... That's true. They're really not taking the time to differentiate between front offices. Thompson likely would have picked a couple of WR's earlier. I guess the one thing they still haven't really done is aggressively try to go out and get someone in the season to fill a need. You hear how they TALKED to the Giants about Davlin Tomlinson, they've talked to the Jets about Q Williams, they talked to all these teams about all these players...and while it's great they're doing their due diligence, it just seems like very year the teams we're competing against go out and make moves while we don't. The 49'ers, the Saints, the Buccs(who got McClendon for a 7th rounder last year IIRC...he was big for them until Vea got back and would have fit very well for us). Shelby Harris is another example, he was on the trade block. But Gute's done a very good job so far. I'd argue he's done better than Thompson has early on in his tenure overall. His misses have been pretty rare. The worst one is...J'mon Moore or Josh Jackson? And Jackson was a guy some had graded as the top CB in that draft class(at least over Alexander). But all idiots like SAS need to see is...."Aaron Rodgers has thrown 1 TD pass to a 1st round draft pick..." As if the Packers would have been better off taking Jordy 5 picks higher or Jennings or Adams in the 1st round.
  18. That’s sort of where I’m at too ... Love is still ‘mint in box’ due to the unique offseason / preseason situation last year. The Packers have been the only team evaluating him for the last 12 months. If they privately thought he wasn’t as good as their pre-draft assessment, I think they would have just given Rodgers whatever he wanted by now. After reading/listening to a lot of opinions about what is going on, it seems that all the conversation comes down too an appearance that most fans and talking heads think the 3 time MVP is threatened by some 2020 draft pick who is poised to take his spot away.. I think most of the takes are that the Packers aren't doing enough to win now and they're planning for the future while Aaron is running out of time more than he's afraid Love is going to take his job. I think he just wants a bigger commitment from the Packers, both in the form of money and a contract...and addressing certain needs. Even people who think that the Packers are going to move on from Rodgers in favor of Love don't think they'll do it because Love will be better, rather the money saved will make it easier for the Packers to win...I guess.
  19. I think most teams reflect their owners and the Packers are the same. They are "owned" by a collective and they are run with the understanding that every player is replaceable (no single person has ultimate say). I wouldn't be surprised if AR or his representation has said "trade Love to show that you want AR back" and the Packers have said, "not gonna happen". That will never see the light of day because neither side wants that out. I really think there is a fundamental gap between the 2 sides at this point. I believe it is stubbornness by both sides, but for AR it's his ego and for the Packers it's fundamental of their business philosophy. I don't know. I doubt they'd demand that another player be traded. I'd guess it has a lot more to do with them giving him more guaranteed money to force them into making a decision now. And yeah, no player is bigger than the team. But you do need to treat some players differently. You need to treat all-time great players like all-time great players...beyond simply giving them a contract that any team would give them. The Packers need Rodgers at this point more than he needs them. I think the "you're not bigger than the team" cliche is something every team uses, not just the Packers...but Rodgers knows this. I got the impression he'd just like to be more involved or just kept in the loop about some things. I don't know exactly what his grievances are right now, but again, just go back to firing his QB coach. Simple stuff like that, keep Rodgers informed. Wilson was upset about not being part of that process and he was clearly more involved than Rodgers was. So I get some level of frustration. But now you've got their attention...so maybe Rodgers pushing the Packers will be better for all of us. He gets a new extension, the Packers free up cap space and get a stud right tackle after the draft and we live happily every(or until next season when this issue will pop back up if Rodgers does stay in GB through 2021).
  20. As a Packers fan, I'd have been much happier with their draft had they taken Mac Jones instead of adding picks and still getting a potential franchise LT(finally). I thought most teams had a solid draft. Minus the Fightin Grudens and the Panthers. I'd agree. Leatherwood makes absolutely no sense to me. He seems like MAYBE he's a RT but most likely a guard and they just gutted their OL when they didn't need to. I think the Falcons are going to regret taking a TE over a franchise LT, but I at least understand why they took Pitts. He is a unique player.
  21. LOL...yeah, it wouldn't be hard. It'd basically be using mock drafts and just picking the biggest name. That'd make the fan base giddy...until those guys did nothing. If they'd have picked Marvin Wilson or Cosmi with the 1st round pick, I'd have been alright with it...and I wouldn't be totally shocked to see both unpicked after tonight. These NFL teams don't have it down to a science, but they come as close as you can get to it.
  22. would it be nice to get another one, yes. Is it the most important need on the team, no by far. The have some good WR's that are developing and for the first time in a while a decent TE. The criticism made more sense last year with St. Brown missing a full year, Rodgers coming off a down year in his first year with MLF...but it's just not a need this year. It'd be very nice, but it's not pressing. But it seems like the media is going to insist it is simply because doing anything else would require they admit they were wrong in the narrative that Rodgers has no help. Aaron Jones re-signing should also be considered. Him, Tonyan breaking out...they look to have a lot more weapons than they did last year at this time, but the media is still filtering the same lines.
  23. If I was Denver, I think I'd like to give Lock a chance with a healthy team, but just from my perspective, at this point...I'd be fine dealing Love for an early 2nd round pick. I don't think that's a good trade, but if it gets you another impact player, appeasers Rodgers, maybe gets him to sign an extension and you can even still add a player or two, it seems like it would work on so many levels. The downside is maybe you give away a really good QB...but the way things may possibly be heading right now, you're possibly trading away an all-time great QB with a lot of good years left.
  24. His Packer draft grade of the pick this morning is absolutely hilarious, in so much as it's as convoluted as it can possibly get. Well that was a good laugh. I won't repeat the whole thing, but the last part was classic: Furthermore, if Rodgers is traded to the Broncos, as rumored, Patrick Surtain could've been included in the deal. That's obviously speculative, but it's still something that should be considered. Yeah, the Packers should be drafting based on internet rumors... Feed the trolls and get an A grade, oh brother. That's just next-level stupid right there. I know enough to know that I have no idea how much work goes into developing a draft board like Gutey...someone who's been a very well respected College Scout since Ron Wolf was in Green Bay, but I'm positive that the Packers aren't making their selections based on who they MIGHT get back in a trade they've already said they wouldn't consider. But other than that, it definitely makes sense to downgrade them for not entertaining the idea that they could acquire Surtain if they just gave up the reigning MVP. Hey...if they were REALLY doing their jobs, they wouldn't have drafted Jordan Love last year because they could have considered that they'd get Drew Lock back THIS year in a trade with Denver...I mean, it's something that should have been considered...
  25. Maybe I'm wrong, but I kinda took that as a tongue-in-cheek joke. The Packers have offered Rodgers an extension and the President and GM have flown out to talk to him. I don't think how Jordan Love looks at practice is going to scare Aaron Rodgers at ALL. I think it's more about the Packers options. They may be trying to keep their options open MORE than he'd like....though still, offering him an extension would suggest that they're planning on or would like him to be their QB for at least a couple more years past next season I'd think.
