  1. I hear ya.....just keep in mind that Texas is in rough financial shape. Not sure how the rest of the league would react to Texas picking up Fielder's salary. Deal can't get done unless Milwaukee picks up the tab. Texas certainly seems to be the best match in terms of prospects however.
  2. On a side note, if a deal with Texas were to get done, we might have Derrek Lee to thank for it. Reports out of Chicago were that the Cubs had offers from the Rangers and Angels, and that Lee exercised his no trade clause. Also it looks like the Brewers are melting down big time today against the Reds....perhaps this will convince Melvin it's time to deal.
  3. Jim Bowden (Fox) tweeted that the Rangers are inching closer to acquiring a 1st basemen. The Dallas Morning News bloggers have also picked up the story, and indicated that the Brewers were scouting the Rangers/Angels series. Texas seems to make the most sense of any trade rumor to this point. They're obviously going all in, and with Melvin's history with the Rangers, you've got to think this could get done. I wonder how serious the Rangers really are?
  4. Heyman just tweeted that the Rangers have joined the Angels and Sox in their pursuit of Fielder. What does Texas have left in their system after the Lee deal?
  5. Sounds like Hart will be back Friday. Let's hope Oswalt gets dealt (scheduled to pitch Friday) so Hart can face a pitcher he can hit hard. That's really the only remaining change of his value returning.
  6. As a side note since we've been talking about Daniel Hudson, here's his line from Sunday: Inn 5.0 Hits 6 Runs 5 Walks 5 SO4 ERA 6.32. Now one game does not a career make, but his penchant for games like this is the reason Melvin and company are wary.
  7. At this point, I'd be shocked if he was traded. Just my personal feeling though. If we were to sweep the Reds and get to within 3 games of .500, then I'd be really, really shocked if there was a trade. Doug Melvin knows better than we do that the current rotation is not a competitive one. It seems he realized there were limited options for improvement this past offseason, and signed what he believed to be the best chance at an upgrade in Randy Wolf. Now he HAS TO get quality pitching for Prince and Hart. I agree that the odds are slim of this happening with teams that we know are interested currently. Hart won't get moved unless he gets back into the lineup and rakes the next couples games anyway. The only way either gets moved this week is if 1. a team that hasn't been rumored jumps in or 2. Melvin can pull off a 3 team deal. Both are possible, but not probable. I hope the fan base realizes that a "non move" this week does not indicate Melvin is happy with the current team makeup or that he isn't going to move them at all. It simply means he stuck to his guns, and that no one offered the pitching he is coveting. A non move would makes both these players the best available this winter at this point. I don't think it matters whether or not they get into the race at this point. Melvin wants pitching, if he gets it they're gone, if not they'll be here. It's that simple.
  8. Trevor Bell, Fabio Martinez, and Garrett Richards are probably their best prospects. None of these guys sets the world on fire though. Richards is doing ok in the Midwest league, and Bell has had a cup of coffee in the bigs with marginal results. He's been used as a reliever in the past as well. Martinez is a flame thrower, but projects as a reliever long term and is also currently in the Midwest league.
  9. They're probably going to keep Edmonds until after the non-waiver deadline. If they trade Prince, then they have someone who can fill in at first. If they keep Prince, then they could probably get Edmonds through waivers in an August deal.
  10. These things change quickly, but I agree with Rosenthal's assertion that the White Sox and Brewers don't seem to match up. I like Hudson, but it'll take 2-3 high upside minor league pitchers to get the Brewers to move Prince mid season.
  11. If the Brewers keep winning, my fear is that Melvin may stand pat. Pirates, Nats, and Reds could lead to a winning streak.
  12. I agree, though I would hope that at some point Macha would make sure the younger guys are playing everyday to gain experience.
  13. In my opinion you take the best possible package of players for Prince regardless of position. You find a spot for them later. All that said it's a nice problem to have. On another note I'm not sure how to feel about this week's sudden lack of rumors regarding Prince and Hart (other than Olney's speculation last night). Is it possible there are deals in the works so everyone has gone underground, or is DM waiting this thing out and hoping a team desperate to stay in contention comes calling?
