  1. I'd say its about time to get someone warming in the pen. Im thinkin Estrada but thats me
  2. In that game correct it didn't and wouldn't make much of an impact, but over the course of a 162 game season it can make an impact. If you play that same situation out 162 times and make the right call more often than not that could be a difference of a win or two and vice versa. Someone more tuned in to the stats community could probably help me out with the impact of a manager, but the point is that these decisions add up over the course of an entire season. The more often the manager makes the right moves to maximize the teams personnel will help and the more often he makes the opposite decisions will more negatively impact the team.Right but overall I believe RRR has made more good decisions than bad ones. Boggs did not produce when he was up here so he was left with little other options when injuries occured. Either way the difference from having A Boggs/Kotsay instead of a Hart/Morgan is a much bigger difference than whether or not who RRR puts in the lineup
  3. I thought this was a great thing of Bonds to do, and the fact He didn't bring the media to it. Honestly I think him and all the other steroid players deserve to be in the hall but thats off topic. I've never been a Bonds hater and this just made me actually like him instead of having no opinion
  4. If that's true than I'll admit I was wrong in that regard. I've really only ever seen him play the corners. I still say Kotsay's bat was superior to Boggs' bat and I think people over estimate how much of an impact it actually had on games. In those games it didn't impact them much. Decisions should be based on the highest probability of success in all situations. Just because it didn't have much impact doesn't mean that was the move that he should have made. Lets say RRR bats Wolf in a key late game situation with Hart on the bench and Wolf hits a home run to win the game. Move worked but I would still call RRR an idiot for doing. I understand this is an extreme example but the principle of it is what I am getting at. I get what you are saying but what I meant when I said impact was that either way the decision wasn't going to change the game much. Granted, he may or may not have made the right decision but it hardly makes him an idiot for that and all these people already don't like him cause of a few small decisions even though the team itself is in the race despite having all those beginning of the year injuries I think is more of a testament to RRR. The players could have folded or simply just not believed they would win but RRR they seem to come out much more motivated and excited to play and THEY believe they will win.
  5. As for today's actual game. Wolf is throwing a gem so far, so hopefully he keeps it up. Our lineup has been lackluster so hopefully it turns around.
  6. Overall I'd give RRR a B for now. He made some questionable moves at the beginning of the year but IMHO he has started making much better decisions lately. His lineups make sense most of the time. His shifts seem to be working and his bullpen usage has been pretty good. I think Melvin might have actually gotten one right here.
  7. Actually Boggs has played more CF in the minors than any other position. If that's true than I'll admit I was wrong in that regard. I've really only ever seen him play the corners. I still say Kotsay's bat was superior to Boggs' bat and I think people over estimate how much of an impact it actually had on games.
  8. I would to, but when Morgan was out who else should have started in center? Boggs and his sub .200 avg? Yes, Defense matters too. Kotsay runs slower than.... well... maybe anyone on the team, other than McGehee. I don't know why Boggs wasn't a viable option in CF.Boggs is a corner outfielder. Just cause he has more speed than Kotsay doesn't mean he can play center better. Id say their D is a push as Kotsay makes all the routine plays. Kotsay's bat is what gave him the edge.
  9. I would to, but when Morgan was out who else should have started in center? Boggs and his sub .200 avg? Kotsay isn't great but he is an ok bench player that can start when you need him to. Preferably Kotsay would just be a pinch hitter and never play the field but when Hart was down and Morgan was down he was our next best outfielder IMHO
  10. I actually believe RRR has done a good job. has he been perfect no, but not many are. People always are going to find complaints with the coach. There are a ton of options to do on every aspect of the game and a coach can only pick so obviously someone out there is going to disagree with him. I love the stealing, especially with 2 outs and trying to get into scoring position. You can already tell the players love him more than they ever did with Macha. His lineups have been much better lately now that everyone is back with the team, and I haven't had to much of an issue with the bullpen usage. My only issue with him is how he uses his bench,(ex. Starting Kotsay multiple times a week) but we'll see if that trend continues now that Nyjer is back. The shifts seem to be working to although I don't have the stats to back me up on that. But he seems to be a smart baseball mind to me and the players respect him so overall I think he has done good.
  11. Well now that we know Hart isn't with the team for some reason I don't mind the lineup as much. I can understand starting Nieves, and Gomez is a better option in the 2 hole than Morgan against lefties. Lets hope Wolf can throw another gem today cause were going to need it
  12. I would easily take 81-69. I would expect at least 4 or 5 wins alone against Pittsburgh & Chicago. I would like our chances at home against Florida as well. I see at least 8-9 wins in those last 12 games. 7-5 at worst. I think right around 87-88 wins wins the division.
  13. I for one am actually glad to see Braun ejected. I would rather have my players get ejected by showing emotion than acting like robots. As long as it isn't a common occurrence I'm fine with Braun arguing. IMO Roenicke should have been tossed to. When your player gets tossed you better stand up for him and get tossed to. I am a huge Roenicke fan but he should have gotten himself tossed as well
  14. Agreed TracyThorn. The Brewers have a really good team this year. have 4 shutouts already and a very dangerous lineup. Sure there are a few weaknesses but Yuni has hit decent enough for me so far this year to justify him over counsell for now, (atleast until we can make a move in the summer), and gomez's defense has looked really good so far as well. The only player I don't like in the starting lineup is Kotsay but he will go back to being a bench player when Hart comes back and I wouldn't mind Kotsay as a bench player. As for the #2 spot in the lineup. I personally would rather have Hart bat 6th and make our lineup more balanced instead of top heavy. Put a Morgan/Gomez platoon there the rest of the season.
  15. Who would you rather have playing shortstop right now on the team? RRR can only use what is available to him. It's Melvin's job to acquire the players. And who would you hit 2nd? I could understand Lucroy but not many other options until Hart comes back. I think RRR has done a very good job so far this year. Every manager makes questionable decisions and fans are never ever going to have 100% approval ratings by the fans.
  16. I agree. 6-5 at this point with a pretty rough schedule and some major injuries is a good thing. not a bad thing.
  17. I like Roenicke for the most part so far. I think hes done a great job with his bullpen management and hopefully once Hart comes back we will have the same lineup every day.
  18. If whoever is in RF slips on the wet grass and pulls a muscle, who would you rather it be? Just trying to find a silver lining.Ya know I like your strategy. I'm thinking tonight we should start Nieves in Right http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  19. Why isn't Morgan playing, Does Roenicke want to waste his hot streak? he isn't going to stay hot forever. Oh well atleast we got Lucroy back
  20. This is exactly why you should never take starting depth for granted. They went from having 7 major league starters(if you can call Silva that) to 3. But hey atleast it happened to the cubs
