  1. My sportsline play by play said "Roberts tripled softly to deep right." Mr Grieve?
  2. "Is EVERY soft tossing lefty we get who throws 4-5 nice starts going to labelled "a Jamie Moyer type"?? Why can't Doug Davis just be Doug Davis" We can choose from the two obvious compromises. Jamie Davis? Doug Moyer?
  3. This team is beginning to remind me of talented, but no heart racehorse. If we play a really, really good team, we turn it up a notch and make the game close. If we play a not so good team, we really turn it down. That way the game will be close and exciting. And, really, it does not matter if we win or lose. And the few times we jump to a big lead we simply go completely quiet at the plate. Today's bases loaded debacle 'we refuse to take the lead' and yesterdays late innings 'we refuse to win' efforts will drive fans away.
  4. Al, years ago, bemoaned the fact that Sheets was brought up a couple of months early his first year. I can only hope that those extra couple of months helped make him what we see today. Because it did cost us owning Ben in 2007. But as it stands we have been for 2004, 5, 6. And it is ok to just pay the guy in aribirtration. The plan should be to make being in Milwaukee so much fun by 2006, that Ben will want to reup. Currently, the only deal I would consider would be extending Ben into 2006 or 7. I am just so happy that it seems we have found the rarest commodity in baseball - a real number one starter. I would be more concerned with fixing our current holes. Krynzel's D is not great in center, if I believe you guys. So it is sad that Krynzel has broke his foot. And we should worry about finding a number 2 and 3 starter. And we need to find another big booper to join up with Jenks. The Sexson trade was great, but he loss with make Jenks struggle. By the way, isnt Sheets pitching a nice game! Oh no, as I type Sheets has hung his first curve ball of the day. But let's forgive him.
  5. "Is the earth rotating properly when Kade goes 4-4" Kade cannot help himself. He is one of the annointed 10. The karma, mojo, spirit, force and all the good stuff will stick to him.
  6. I was gonna complain about my 3 am start on the lounge. And now it is almost 8 am, I have to get ready for work. The Crew have 45 min to win this, then my work day will be happy (but sleepy).
  7. Isn't it great they can only put ONE loss against your LOSES column for a game. I could not even handle listening to the radio on this one. Although, I listened to one game with Bob and Jim where the Crew was behind 10 - 1 after 5. So Bob and Jim just talked about fishing for the next hour. And suddenly Bob said, 'oh, by the way, the game just finished, the final was 11 - 2'. Only Bob could do that.
  8. RoCo, I think we may be pesky and hang around .500 for a while. We can almost count ourselves fortunate. We have learned a few things early on without going 2 and 11. We see Kinney is not a keeper. We see Sheets may actually be able to step up. We see Pods struggles in CF, but is no one year wonder with bat and shoes. We see Hernandez really is not the comeback player of the year. I suppose the list goes on, but this is really a 'find out what we have without drowning year'. And we are succeeding. We beat up St Louis and now St Louis is beating up others. We may not be really, really bad. But the best we appear to be is pesky. But .500 pesky is a big improvement. And, of course, if the minor league guys really pan out, we can add talent to pesky and become good. (and cheap, that will make EVERYBODY happy)
  9. What an interesting thread! Colby you interchanged the words stuff and velocity. An earlier writer defined stuff as ability to effortlessly throw a baseball (and I assume he meant with velocity). I always, always define stuff as movement on pitches. I am sure, at MLB level, it is better to have a pitcher who throws 89 with movement, than to have a guy that throws 96 with no movement. I guess the perfect pitcher is a guy who throws 96 with movement AND control, ala a Randy Johnson when he is on. Interestingly, I would say Pedro Martinez stuff is not as good as Johnson's, and his velocity is less, but his control is more than the Unit. So, I would rank the needed attributes as stuff (movement), control (ability to use stuff), and velocity - in that order. Even if you get a low velocity guy with great stuff and control, you end up with Greg Maddux. That is ok! The quote from BA, re Weaver, states "His command is so good that his stuff plays better than its raw grades." If that means Weaver has little stuff with great control, then he does not have a high upside in MLB. Maybe in college that will get by, but not against a MLB lineup. But if he has good/great stuff (movement) with great, great control, then he is as rare as hens teeth.
  10. If Helms sits after collecting three hits that is just, plain dumb.
  11. "Not that anyone probably cares..."
  12. well Brian, I think I did say it was a problem with the site; but that I was sure you would fix it; and I think your site is great; I assumed that since I can recreate the problem and FIX the problem by using the brewerfan.net create an account - then it was a brewerfan.net problem and I really do assume someone did the same to me; but recreating my account over the top; so I assume some wag at brewerfan is responsible but if that is all run by ezboard, then it is their problem - and it is a pretty big problem if accounts are not secure but to be honest, my history here is not a happy one... cant post, posts edited, posts deleted, account deactivated; I could live with all that if I thought all here was one big happy family, but there are sure a lot of egos running around; so my assumption is always a conspiracy and you can see the posts that already show up here; 'how can you blame Brian"; some make a joke so the first words out of many peoples mouths are: "oh, it cant be true, it is your problem hoffy" anyway, I think I will go back to my espn, but it is really unrewarding there these days; about 1% baseball talk; but I always prefer an open forum; but maybe no forum is best; I can have closed and controlled but clever or open and stupid... what a choice
  13. I can create an account as you, Brian, but I cannot post; I get this after I create the account using the LOGIN button on your top menu and the create account. But I cannnot post as you. I am trying. But maybe your login will stop working because I created on the top. "Welcome aboard, squarepusher your Brewerfan.net account has been created. return to main menu" ...Dan
  14. I tried to post with the 'other' password; but now only the latest password works; so, indeed, anybody can create an account over the top of an existing, with a new password... hmmmmm, what should I do now.... who should I be.... I am pretty sure that a few guys here are suddenly going to change their views on strikeouts.
  15. hmmmm, seems now I can log in with EITHER password, so I am stumped. I thought the new password overwrote the old. So, sorry, Brian, I am doing some testing for you. I will try to post with '7' password and the '8' password. I hope only ONE works.
  16. Well Brian, I created H0FFY a third time, with a new password. And I must use the new password to log on. So, I know what happened. I am so flattered that because I dont agree with the clan that the clan tries to ban me. Or at least one odd member of the clan. Anyway, I have proved that anyone can create the same userid as any poster and with the new account, the new password will prevent the original user from accessing.
  17. Well, I certainly am amazed at how this site does strange things to me. I started to post again, and suddenly, wham, my account will not work anymore. It must have been deleted, because I have been able to create an account again with the exact same user id and password that I have had for two years. No, strangely I have been able to create the same account TWO times now. So now I am guessing some wonderful wag decided to create H0FFY with a new password. So, Brian, there is a wee hole in your web site. The same account can be created again and again, and I guess any wag can disable somebodies account by creating the same account over the top of it.
  18. Well, Al, that is so true what you say. Because teams refuse to simply promote guys as they deserve, I feel we will never see the likes of Doug Jones again. And, in fact, the league may now be ripe for guys like that. Since everybody now throws so hard, a guy who thows soft (with control and variation) may be so unusual and 'new', he could be the next big thing.
  19. I see the last few games Prince was going 1 for 2 with 2 walks. I wonder if Prince is 'expanding' his strike zone. I would prefer to see him take his two walks each game. Tonight he k'd twice. And the other team did not throw a lot of strike outs... 7 for the entire game. Anyway, it is good for Prince to learn. Barry Bonds knows how to carry is .500+ obp. So, if it is good enough for Barry...
  20. To see Wright being knocked about at AAA is stupid. He has much too good of stuff for that. Is there anything he is actually working on... strength, mechanics, religion, anything? I would be really sad if he is just walking out every 5th day 'waiting' for magic and movement and control to 'appear'.
