I appreciate it. Sorry to rant so vehemently. I have had at least 8 people ask me where they can buy a Jewboys t-shirt since I got mine, not counting the 6 I bought for my wargame teammates. They're *extremely* cool, imo. BTW, No Mas is the company that makes them, they did a special run for me after I saw a blurb in Paul Lukas' Uni Watch column on ESPN.com about the shirt he was wearing to a convention in Dallas. They have since sold out (again) of the blue ones, and they are down to only M and XXL remaining in white. Oh, and they raised the price 2 bucks since I started the new rush on them. =) Too bad I don't get a cut. http://www.nomas-nyc.com/regseason_shirts.html I appreciate your desire to be sensitive, but I hope you'll understand why that seems condescending. Nobody defends the Italian Stallions, why should the Jews need it? We survived the Holocaust, daily bombings in Israel, and everything else so far, we're a lot tougher than most people assume. BTW, if any of your Jewish staffers like hockey, these are the coolest looking Jerseys on the planet atm imho... http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/yhst-88428257664372_1956_1127331 http://yhst-88428257664372.stores.yahoo.net/index.html

I'm not done ranting, now that you've yanked my circumcised crank. Why is it ok for Italians, Irish, African-Americans, etc etc to glory in their heritage, but not the Jews? Did some Jew here claim to be offended, or were you just being hyperactively protective for the poor, weak, downtrodden, persecuted Jews? We're so freakin' pathetic that we need protection from an avatar? My people get blown up all over our home country every damn day, I don't think a picture is gonna cause much distress in the big picture, even if it WERE intended as some sort of slight. The Journal ran a sidebar on page 2 of the Sunday sports section 3 weeks ago about the best Jewish hitters in MLB history (Hank Greenberg, Shawn Green, and 3 desperate reaches). They even called them JEWS. The horror!!! This is a freakin' joke.

Yahoo Fantasy Sports Auto Racing Jewboys Racin • Ratpac Racing • big pimpin Baseball Jewboys • G'Rays Baseball Football Jewboys • Vinnie the Cheap Dutchman My Yahoo leagues. You want a family tree, a picture of the menorah my inlaws gave me, or what?

Perhaps the site should let you know when there are messages in your inbox, instead of me having to go look for one after my avatar is gone...? Why is my avatar any less complimentary than that of the Hebrew Hammer? Why is the word "Jew" considered inflammatory, but "hebrew" is not? I wear my Jewboys shirt around town proudly, I paid 30 bucks for the damn thing. Jewboys is the name of my teams in all fantasy sports leagues that I play. Yahoo has never had a problem with it. I've never heard one single complaint before today. I play an online wargame with a group that calls ourselves the Jewboys, and the only complaint we ever heard was from a self-professed Nazi admin, who banned us, only to have the site owner reinstate us. So are you Nazis? Did it ever occur to you to ask me about it before arbitrarily yanking it? Even the tone of the PM I received was aggressive and confrontational... You need to change your avatar. If you don't do it, it'll likely result in your being banned from the site. --1992casey Sounds pretty anti-Semitic, to me. edit: brettac1 - avatar makes political statement re: Fascism, clearly forbidden in site rules. THAT is ok, Jewboys is not? I see.
-
First year watching baseball, is it? What's life like on your home planet? On earth, it happens all the time.
-
I'm curious as to why my avatar was yanked. Because I'm a Jew, and proud of it? Why are avatars of black people allowed? God forbid a Jew can claim his heritage and be proud of one of our own, Ryan Braun. Will he be banned also fo being Jewish?

"CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs star left fielder Alfonso Soriano strained his right quadriceps during Sunday's 8-3 loss to the New York Mets and will be sidelined two-to-four weeks, a major loss for a team trying to make the playoffs. Soriano was scheduled for an MRI after Sunday night's game." A month? Wow...very bummed for my fantasy team, very pumped for the Crew.

Well said, imo. I'm not a new-thread-startin' kind of guy, I'm more reactionary, commenting on/discussing the things that other people have been compelled to start. I'm very pleased to have found BF.net, and hope to have discussions here WELL into the postseason. I've lived in the area since '91, and this is the first time (IMO) the local team has been relevant and worth discussing, even though I have bought 20 game ticket packs and such in several of the years I've lived here.

As many have suggested, "mystery injury + rehab assignment" seems the easiest/most prudent course of action.

The concession I am willing to make (the only one) to Ned is best described by the discussion at our table in Applebee's as the events transpired (alternating, starting with my buddy, 2nd line me, buddy, me, etc): "Suppan just gave up a hit" "I hope Ned doesn't panic and get a reliever up already, we're up 6 runs, even if we give up a granny we're still up two" "Darn, another guy on now" "Reeeelax, Ned" "Wild pitch" "Ok, maybe you get a guy up and warming now, but you definitely don't run to the mound" "there's 2 away, we just need an out! That was huge getting Howard to pop out" "basehit Rowand, 2 runs in" "Still up 4, don't panic Ned...please...here comes Ned, DAMMIT!" Here comes the concession...Ned clearly got to the mound, talked to Suppan briefly, and THEN signalled for the pen. Had he made the call to the pen while walking TO the mound, I'd have gone absolutely ballistic. HOWEVER, indications from watching it suggest that MAYBE Suppan said "it's just gone, skipper, I got nothing left". I don't KNOW that's what happened, maybe SUppan wanted to stay in. I wish I could get the truth out of either Suppan or Ned, but there's been nothing all season to suggest that is possible. If Suppan wanted to finish the inning and Ned yanked him anyway, Ned needs to be drawn and quartered. If Suppan begged out, he's a wuss, but I can't blame Ned. I can, however, still blame Ned for PHing for Linebrink and going to Wise in a winnable situation. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

/start sarcasm I kinda like the unexpected Gestapo management style. /end sarcasm I'm very new here, I'm just teasing ( a bit ), I just have a bit of trouble recognizing a rhyme or reason as to which threads get locked. I post similar comments in many threads that are somewhat related (in my mind) just because I'm not sure which will become "popular". In the back of my mind, I'm always waiting for a reprimand for "posting the same thing in multiple threads", as I've seen others reproved for. Perhaps not the feeling you want new contributors to have...

"I don't know if it was said about a baseball manager or a football coach, but (paraphrasing here) I recall a quote that went something like this: "He can take his team and beat yours, then turn around and take your team and beat his." " The reference was to Bear Bryant.

"Script for success for Colorado series?" Short answer? Leave Ned at home.

Linebrink acquired for Inman/Garrison/Thatcher

re: Linebrink, when a guy like Trevor Hoffman goes ballistic about losing him, there's a reason...and it's not just because they're "buddies". Sadly, I already trust him more than just about anyone not named Gallardo... -
"I don't have a problem with putting in Wise when we are up by 5 runs. The results obviously stink but I don't think it was a terrible idea. If it had been say a 3 run game I'd have a real problem with it." "There is nothing wrong with Wise going out to pitch with a 5 run lead. You can't just take a go to guy and shut him down to scrub time. As soon as he messed up Ned went and got him. I am not upset at Wise, but I sure wish CoCo wasn't struggling so bad right now" "Linebrink was leading off the bottom of the 8th, would you have let him bat? I'd go to the pinch hitter." No way Wise should even be in the majors atm, and definitely not pitching in a game we can win. If he MUST stay with the big club, you bring him in when we're down 8 runs in the 4th or sumthin'. Absolutely you let Linebrink bat, we're up 5 runs, we don't need more, we just need 3 outs. Quit trying to be clever and managing for tomorrow, win the game you can win TODAY, and let Monday take care of itself. I was away from home all day, I knew I'd come back and read nonsense like the above. Say all you want that hindsight is 20/20, we were sitting in Applebee's screaming at the TV as it happened. I friggin' hate Ned enough to almost hope the Crew misses the playoffs so he surely gets canned. I'm tired of hearing that Ned has "gotten more than expected out of a young team that wasn't supposed to do much". Many good baseball minds had the Brewers slated for success this preseason, and Ned has done nothing but squander a great start with his musical lineups and bullpen mismanagement.

Has Jenkins Performed Up To Your Expectations?
imaji replied to bigbrewkahuna's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
ESPN mag ran an article (iirc, in their fantasy baseball preview) that suggests contract year performances are a myth. There is no huge difference in stats before, during, and after the contract year. This article: http://roadsidephotos.sabr.org/baseball/leypoldt.htm suggests that it makes a difference for "big" stars, but not little ones. IIRC the original article I referred to in ESPN, the correlation is that pitchers are far more prone to huge letdowns after signing multiyear deals, while for hitters it doesn't have a huge effect, as for instance Soriano and Sheffield this year are about roughly what you'd expect them to be, while guys like Zito are not (some knew Zito was overpaid, I'm just giving examples). Another old article on the subject: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/bbw/2002-01-30/2002-01-30-fantasy.htm I think about Carlos Lee (among NL leaders in RBI this year) and Magglio Ordonez off the top of my head as recent guys that perform(ed) near norms before, during, and after the big paydays. Jenkins never was at that level (and never will be), so expectations for him should be about where they are. edit: PS This year, the big 3 CF free agents to be, Ichiro, Andruw Jones, and Torii Hunter, have all been, again, about what you'd expect them to be, or, in Jones' case, somewhat off his career pace. -
Media attention the Cubs receive
imaji replied to schwaby131647185073's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
"The problem , as I see it, isn't so much coverage as it is the barely (if at all) concealed rooting that is going on for the Cubs in much of the supposedly "impartial" journalistic coverage" Journalists root for STORIES, not teams. Most will admit to that (as opposed to claiming "impartiality" or "objectivity". The Cubs make for a great STORY due to their drought, the size of the fanbase, etc etc as mentioned. Big stories mean big exposure for those coverring them. It's the way the world is. Deal with it. If not for Prince being Cecil's son (a great STORY), the Brewers wouldn't get ANY ink or play. So it cuts both ways. If the Brewers would make the playoffs a few years in a row, they would BECOME a story. -

I never said you said he sucks, or that his power would last. My point is that if he was TIRED, I'd expect more k's than 2 in the last 8 games, as a slow bat should (it seems) lead to more swings and misses. If he was TIRED, I wouldn't expect him to be able to hit safely in 6 of his last 7 games. Is he "slumping"? It's a matter of perspective, depending on what you expected in the first place. I said all April and May that he wasn't *that* good. As far as those who think he takes too many pitches (heard often on the 1250 postgame last night (Fri)...ummm, duh, he's a #2 batter, part of that job description is to take pitches and give 3 and 4 more looks at the pitcher before they come up. The Yankees are oft lauded for "working" pitchers and going deep into counts. IMO, to take so many strikes that he's almost always IN a 2 strike count, and NOT strike out very much, is a sign that he's NOT tired, that he can make contact whenever he needs to, and while much of that contact may be leading to the weak grounders you're observing, it's (a) better than striking out, and (b) bound to see a regression to the mean as some of those grounders find a hole in the infield.

Your prediction: will the Brewers win the division
imaji replied to LUKE232323's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
ESPN1000 in Chicago, has a saying on MJH (afternoon drive)...Zambrano and Lilly, the rest look silly. And they're right. Oh, and Dempster got lit up today. The Cubs staff isn't any better than ours if Sheets gets back 100% soon. I'll take Ben and Yo vs Zambrano and Lilly, and Bush/Suppan/Vargas isn't any worse than Marquis/Marshall/Hill. -
Hardy was batting .308 (8/26) with 5 runs scored and 3 driven in in the last week heading into tonight (Fri)...I'll take .300 and a run per game and over .5 per game batted in from my shortstop and #2 hitter every week.
