  1. If there's a "go for it" trade before the deadline this year, I would think it would be an older player, possibly in their last year, on a team that is clearly out of contention. These are bad examples because I think the Tigers (Kenny Rogers) and D-backs (R. Johnson) seem like they're going to contend this year. But you probably get my point and I'm sure someone can come up with a better example. The other problem is that MLB may be in a situation similar to last year where many teams believe they can make a run at the playoffs. There weren't many terrible teams, so most were at least somewhat viable for the playoffs by the trade deadline and were afraid to give up a piece that could potentially cost them a run. I understand things could be very similar this year. But ya never know....
  2. I would agree, unless Mark A suddenly becomes a terrible businessman.
  3. This one may set a record. It can easily be transformed into the "fire Ned Yost thread" (like the one that grew to what, 80 pages last year?) We're on the 4th page of the thread and spring training hasn't even started yet!
  4. I know we're pretty deep with SPers, but it seems like Sean Burnett would be a nice waiver claim. Give him a full year at AAA to see if he can come all the way back?? He's still only 25. And he's left-handed, which is always nice. I'm very surprised Pittsburgh is trying to sneak him through waivers.
  5. Thanks much - actually had just answered my question with their email update I received this afternoon that indicated the spreadsheet was available today.

  9. Are these 2008 projected PECOTA numbers? I still don't see updated PECOTA cards at BP.com. Are they all in one place until they update each player's individual card?

  13. Agree completely. If people seriously believe we're going to get Sabathia at the trade deadline, they better come to grips that we're going to have to give up some pretty good players to get him. Not going to happen.
  14. Again, looking to guys who are much more knowledgeable on prospect projections and pace of coming up through the system, but it seems guys with closer stuff can rise much faster because you're not asking them to develop four pitches, stamina, etc. To that end, what do you think about Jeffress' ability to get to Milwaukee quickly? Conversely, I guess he's been compared to Dwight Gooden, so maybe you ride him as long as possible to see if he can become that #1 starter first. Just wanted to toss it out for opinions (since I really have cabin fever and want spring training to start tomorrow!).
  15. That was going to be my question as well. Do we even know that he is "coming back"? Last I heard (I thought) was that he was probably through.
  16. I'd be bluer if we threw Hall/Capuano/Gwynn out to get him!
  17. I didn't read through the whole thread, so I apologize if this has been mentioned already. But I understand that strapping on some oxygen really helps. My disabled daughter has an oxygen need so we always have a huge tank of oxygen at the house - I've just always been embarrased to push the nurse out of the way to try some oxygen for my hangover. I've wanted to try the oxygen bar in Vegas with a hangover, but it's usually just easier to sleep until 3pm and then start up again.
  18. I can see us trading Hall to someone needing a SS, but NOT for Jon Garland (that was suggested in another online column I saw as well and thought it was not receiving enough in return).
  19. I agree - the more I read through this thread and think about it, the more I am warming to the idea (vs when I saw the title). It will all depend on what we have to give up to get him. It has to be more than Gwynn, but I'd hate to see them give up Parra. It's not a terrible option for the reasons you state above.

  23. 149 is the natural number between 148 and 150. It is also a prime number. 149 is the 35th prime number, and with the next prime number, 151, is a twin prime, thus 149 is a Chen prime. 149 is a strong prime in the sense that it is more than the arithmetic mean of its two neighboring primes. 149 is an Eisenstein prime with no imaginary part and a real part of the form 3n ? 1. Given 149, the Mertens function returns 0. 149 is a tribonacci number. 149 is a strictly non-palindromic number. The year AD 149 or 149 BC. The number of the flagship Montblanc Meisterstück pen, Meisterstück 149.
  24. He has a club option for $2.85 million for 2008, that could be picked up and traded. I hate losing CV but you'd have to do this deal. You'd still have Sheets, Gallardo, Parra, Bush, Suppan and Capuano who could start but to add two good bullpen arms on top of getting Crawford? Just too good to pass up. Edit: Forgot about Buck too, good power, would allow us to trade Estrada if they wanted, how's his defense? The option actually became a player option with 60 appearances (he had 65). Don't see any reason for him to pick it up when coming off a career year which allows him to get a multiple year contract from someone. And Riske has, in fact, declined the option so he's a FA. I believe there's another thread started regarding him.
