  1. Another 5 hit in a row barrage from the worst hitting team in the NL... I am starting to think this is not coincidence.
  2. I'm telling you Mike Rivera, producing offense is not the way to get more playing time. I'll take it, but its not going to get you anywhere.
  3. Then he should get his hands on the same pictures Kendall has, because producing more offense doesn't seem to cut it.
  4. Those were the Padres i was expecting to see. Nice shot by Prince.
  5. ... why is Rosenthal talking about this like the D-Backs can just pull Davis back? IIRC, that is the third option. Davis was on revokeable waivers (most common). If pulled back, they can be put on waivers again but that third option will not be available the second time.
  6. Melvin needs someone to pitch, so he put a claim in. I doubt he is willing to give up anyone of significance at this point. He might not be willing to give up anything and thought about the possibility of Zona giving him up for nothing ala Rios.
  7. The irony is that Macha seems adverse to playing rookies consistently, mainly because he is trying to win games to keep his job, yet his job is in jeopardy because of his reluctance to play the rookies on a consistent basis. That and not winning games. And running Looper and Suppan out there when its fairly certain they are about to get shelled. That and playing Kendall everyday, and even leading him off in the lineup on occasion. That and putting a pitcher in the top 10 of abuse given he has not pitched an entire season in the bigs yet. And whatever. I don't see him back. Mark A is tolerable to an extent, but I bet he hates the fans booing more than anyone.
  8. you just won't be able to understand why Melvin is not going to do that to a player. Thankfully, that's not what they chose to do. Time will tell if your confidence in this scenario plays out. Hardy's call-up is not a foregone conclusion. If he continues to struggle at the plate at Nashville, and Escobar takes full advantage of his situation, Hardy may not earn his way back to Milwaukee. Two good years out of five does not earn the player the right to dictate how he is handled by a team, and I think most well-informed agents and union representatives would concur.
  9. How about a HS player in the draft? Do the Brewers really need to give the player and their agent any more ammunition along with a threat to go to college. And how about a major league FA who is 50/50 on signing with the Brewers or another team. You don't think other players and agents will be in his ear about how the Brewers waited 1 extra day to recall JJ Hardy just so he would lose a year of service time? Liriano is nowhere near a parallel example. I am just not buying the organizations obligation to ensure Hardy becomes a free agent as soon as possible. He earned the demotion. Two good years is nice, but if he wants his 5 years of service time he needs to earn it. That is the message agents should be sending their high schoolers. The 50/50 free agent scenario is just as invalid as the Liriano example then, as that player's contract will be guaranteed regardless of what the club decides to do with him.
  10. I got Ozzie's career OPS at .665 from my iphone app. Good point shelmark.
  11. It really has nothing to do with Hardy. It has all to do with they way your organization is perceived. If the Brewers had made this move yesterday to push back Hardy's FA by one year, the black mark it would have given them with agents and players would probably prove more costly than any gain made by putting off JJ's free agency. Agents smagents. The Twins suppressed Liriano last year and caught some heat, but I doubt it will hurt their cause. Small market teams can get away with this, because they aren't signing the big name free agents anyway.
  12. Yes, it's bad business not doing this one day sooner, but I don't think the Brewers want the bad reputation that comes with robbing players of a service year. While I agree with this sentiment, JJ Hardy has robbed fans of a certain amount of enjoyment this year. I would not feel bad for him in this case, especially since he continues to tie the organizations hands by killing his trade value through stinky play.
  13. Does what happened this year take away from the amazing season he had last year? Amazing might be an overshoot, but yeah, it takes away a bit.
  14. Just when you thought Hardy couldn't hurt his trade value any further...
  15. Wow, poor JJ was being played too often. While some players relish in being a mainstay in the lineup, JJ says he needed a break. Maybe he would have more energy if he stopped partying so much? Sounds like whining to me.
  16. The good news for Hardy is that he will find a whole new crop of hotties down in Nashville. Hope he brought all his Remetees with him. I see some longs nights in Nashville on the horizon for the All-Star.
  17. I don't have anything to add, but I just wanted to bold Escobar MLEs, so Brewerfans aren't surprised when he shows he not ready to hit yet. Come on, those projections are about as useful as a fantasy football cheat sheet. A few might be right, but many are not. I wouldn't use them as an argument against this move, but rather as a barometer of what we might come to expect. The Brewers don't have the luxury to keep Escobar at AAA until he is OPSing his mind off. Deal.
  18. exactly... After one year he still is a type A. But he stunk this year. So if he stinks next year it won't matter if he is allowed to stink that extra year.
  19. If he stinks for two years in a row, he would likely not be a Type A free agent.
  20. At least Melvin let Billy hit one last self-admiring shot into the bleachers before cutting him loose. The nice snag by that fan could turn out to be Billy's last big league HR ball.
  21. Good thing I don't have to open my presents in the clubhouse http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  22. Again, if Hardy spends the rest of 09 in AAA, why would teams care he has an extra year of control. I see your point about AAA, but he had success for 2 years at the major league level and not so much this year. I think having the extra year of team control increases his value more than if he stayed with the big club and continued his pace the rest of the season. Melvin took matters into his own hands instead of hoping JJ gets hot to increase his value.
  23. I think he's a good prospect, but the results show he's not ready. There aren't any results to go by other than his 2-4, 2R from 2008. That would be a 1.000 OPS in the bigs! Why be a downer?
