Krebs) BILOXI, MS – For the first time since July 9, the Biloxi Shuckers took the opener of a series with a 4-1 victory over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Wednesday night in front of a crowd of 1,955 at MGM Park. Biloxi starting pitcher Jorge Lopez turned in his 13th quality start, tossing eight shutout innings and Brett Phillips reached base safely five times Wednesday, finishing 4-for-4, a homer shy of the cycle. Lopez (11-5) made his 21st start of the season and hit the ground running, as the 22-year-old worked around two base runners in the first before striking out the side. The Puerto Rico native shut down the Blue Wahoos’ offense, allowing just four hits over eight shutout innings, walking two, while striking out eight on 107 pitches. The eight innings matched a season and career-high. Biloxi (22-23) rallied with two outs in the second to score the first run of the game. After fly outs by Taylor Green (0x4) and Tyrone Taylor (0x3, BB), Adam Weisenburger (2x3, RBI, R, BB) drew a walk and moved over to third on a single by Lopez. Phillips started his hot night at the plate, following with a hard-hit double to right to bring home Weisenburger. The Shuckers were back at it in the third to expand their lead to three. Nathan Orf (1x3, R, BB) started the frame with a single and came all the way around to score on Nick Ramirez’s (1x4, RBI, R, 2B) two-bagger to center. Phillips smacked a fly ball into right that missed the glove of a diving Juan Duran and rolled all the way to the wall for a leadoff triple in the fourth. Roache drove Phillips home two outs later to open up the Shuckers’ lead to four. Drew Gagnon (2.0 IP, 3 R, 3 H, BB, 4 SO) made his second appearance since being transferred to Biloxi in the eighth, and the Braves greeted him with a three-run shot off the bat of Matt Lipka to increase the lead to 10-1. (M.K. Krebs) BILOXI, MS - The Biloxi Shuckers withstood a power surge by the Mississippi Braves on Monday night, taking game four of the five-game series by a score of 5-4 in front of a crowd of 1,981 at MGM Park to force a fourth-consecutive rubber match. Tyrone Taylor and Orlando Arcia paced the offencse with two hits apiece as the Brewers' prospects have combined for 66 multi-hit games this season. The win improves Biloxi's record to 10-7 against the Braves this season and is the team's 15th victory at MGM Park (15-12). Biloxi waited until the third inning to pick up its first hit of the game, but made it count as they struck for two runs in the inning. Tyrone Taylor (2x4, 2 R, SB) singled to start the frame and moved to second with his ninth stolen base of the season, with Adam Weisenburger (1x2, R) at the plate. Weisenburger singled to put runners on the corners for Tyler Wagner, who put down a sacrifice bunt in front of the mound. The throw to first was in time to get Wagner for the first out of the inning, but the throw home by Kevin Ahrens sailed high of Matt Kennelly and out of play, allowing both base runners to score. The RBI was Wagner's fifth of the season. Mississippi worked deep counts against Wagner all night, striking out four times and drawing three walks before the fifth inning. In the fifth, the Braves put two runners on with one out after back-to-back singles by the eighth and ninth batters in the lineup, Matt Lipka and opposing pitcher John Gant. Shuckers' pitching coach Chris Hook came out for a meeting with his starter before Sean Godfrey sent the first pitch from Wagner onto Caillavet for a three-run homerun, putting Biloxi down a run. Wagner failed to make it past the fifth inning for the first time this season as a member of the Biloxi Shuckers, and walked a season-high four batters, while also striking out four on 95 pitches in just 4.2 innings. The Shuckers tied the game in the sixth with a two-out rally. Brett Phillips (1x4, R, 2B) doubled to start the inning and sat there for two batters before Brandon Macias (1x3, BB) drew a walk to put two on for Victor Roache (1x4, RBI), who ripped a single into right to bring in Phillips. The Braves used another long ball in the seventh to regain the lead over the Shuckers. Jed Bradley (2.0 IP, R, H) started the inning by retiring Emerson Landoni and Godfrey, but a two-out shot onto the berm in right field by Levi Hyams put Mississippi back out in front, 4-3. Not to be outdone, Biloxi used a two-out knock off the bat of Orlando Arcia (2x4, RBI) to score two runs and put the Shuckers back out in front. Taylor started things off with a single and moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt by Weisenburger. Nick Ramirez drew a walk to put two on for Phillips, who struck out swinging. With two outs, Arcia deposited a single into left field, bringing Taylor home from second. The throw home by Godfrey went out of play, allowing Ramirez to score the second run on the play and put Biloxi back in front, 5-4. Damien Magnifico (4-1) worked out of jam in the eighth after having runners on the corners and two outs, but induced a ground out to third by Godfrey to end the Braves' threat. Yhonathan Barrios (SV, 3) came out of the bullpen to close the game in the ninth and made quick work of the Braves, setting them down in order to secure his third save as a Shucker. Biloxi will try to take its third rubber match in its last four attempts on Tuesday night at MGM Park. Krebs) BILOXI, MS – The Biloxi Shuckers endured a strenuous day of roughly five hours’ worth of baseball at MGM Park on Sunday, wrapping up a suspended game from Saturday, followed by a full, nine-inning contest. Biloxi walked out with a split, but not without some patented MGM Park magic. In the nightcap, the Shuckers capped off the largest comeback in franchise history by scoring five runs over the final three innings to win 7-6 in 10 innings, courtesy of a walk-off double by Orlando Arcia, scoring Nathan Orf. It marked the sixth walk-off victory at MGM Park in 26 games and fifth in extra innings. Trailing 6-2 in the eighth inning, Biloxi improved to 1-36 when trailing after eight frames and the M-Braves dropped to 1-46 when leading after eight. Suspended Game: Mississippi 2, Biloxi 1 On Saturday night, Biloxi opened the scoring early after a leadoff walk to Josh Fellhauer 0x3, R, 2 BB) in the first led to Victor Roache’s (1x3, RBI, BB) two-out, RBI single to give the Shuckers a 1-0 lead. Shuckers’ starting pitcher Adrian Houser held the lead until the fifth inning. Braeden Schlehuber reached on a single to start the inning and made his way to third after back-to-back sacrifice bunts. Emerson Landoni tied the game with a RBI single to right field, bringing home Schlehuber. After David Rohm grounded out to shortstop to start the sixth, the skies opened up on Biloxi, causing the game to be suspended and completed on Sunday. When the game resumed, Brooks Hall (7-8) took over for Houser. The 22-year-old worked 5.1 innings due to the suspension, and allowed just one run on four hits and three strikeouts. Houser has nine strikeouts and has not issued a walk in two starts with the Shuckers. Biloxi had a chance to tie the game in the ninth as Roache walked to get things started and made it to third after back-to-back singles by Taylor Green (2x4, 2B) and Tyrone Taylor (2x2, 2 BB). But, an Adam Weisenburger (1x4) pop out and consecutive strikeouts to pinch hitter Brett Phillips (0x1) and Fellhauer ended the Shuckers’ threat and the game. KD Kang started the resumed game with a groundout to second, but a double by Kevin Ahrens and an infield single by Rio Ruiz got away from Nick Ramirez (0x2, BB) at first base on the throw by Orlando Arcia (0x4) from short, allowing Ahrens to score. Game 2: Biloxi 7, Mississippi 6 The MGM Park magic struck again for the Biloxi Shuckers in the nightcap in downtown Biloxi, as the Shuckers erased a four-run deficit and walked off a 7-6 winner over the Mississippi Braves. Nathan Orf (1x1, R) pinch hit for Yhonathan Barrios (1-0) with one out and singled back up the middle before a walk by Brett Phillips (1x3, RBI, R, 3B, BB) moved the runner into scoring position for Orlando Arcia (3x6, RBI, R). The 21-year-old shortstop drove a ball to deep center, over the head of Matt Lipka, allowing Orf to score and send the home crowd home happy. Josh Hader (1-1) took the mound for the Shuckers to start the regularly scheduled, nine-inning contest and allowed two runs in the first inning on a two-run double by KD Kang to put Biloxi in a two-run hole after half an inning. The Shuckers’ offense responded with a run in the first on a RBI single by Brandon Macias (2x4, 3 RBI, R, 2B, BB) to plate Josh Fellhauer (1x4, RBI, 2 R, BB) to cut the deficit in half. Biloxi was back at it in the second, piecing together extra-base hits in Parker Berberet’s (1x5, RBI, R, 2B) double with one out and a two-out triple from Phillips to tie the game at two. Mississippi would pull back ahead in the third with a two-out rally. The Braves loaded the bases with two outs and Sean Godfrey delivered with a two-run single, scoring David Rohm and Kang. The M-Braves tacked on runs in the fifth and seventh to put the Shuckers in a four-run hole. Barrios continued his dominance out of the bullpen after being acquired in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 23-year-old worked the final two frames and gave up just one hit while striking out three on 17 pitches – 15 for strikes – en route to his first win as a Shucker. In four appearances with Biloxi, the converted infielder has not allowed a run in 6.1 innings. The Shuckers will look to even the series with the Braves on Monday night at MGM Park. RHP Tyler Wagner (9-5, 2.33) seeks to become the second 10-game winner on the Biloxi pitching staff, while RHP John Gant (2-0, 0.77) looks to remain perfect with Mississippi. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:25 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. (M.K. Krebs) BILOXI, MS – The Biloxi Shuckers were shutout for the 10th time in their inaugural season after a 7-0 loss to the Mississippi Braves on Friday night in front of a crowd of 3,897 at MGM Park. The seven-run defeat is the largest setback suffered by Biloxi at MGM Park. Despite the loss, the Shuckers maintain an 8-6 advantage in the Magnolia State rivalry. Mississippi (24-17) cracked the scoreboard first with a two-run second. Back-to-back strikeouts by Shuckers’ starter Jorge Lopez (10-5) started a promising inning for the righty, but a single to Rio Ruiz and a hom erun off the bat of Kevin Ahrens put Biloxi in a 2-0 hole. Ahrens came in to the contest, 0-for-5 against Lopez, but changed that with a 3-for-3 performance on Saturday, coming a triple shy of the cycle. The Braves added onto their lead in the fourth, once again striking with two outs. A leadoff single from David Rohm was followed by a walk to KD Kang before Matt Kennelly and Ruiz were put out. Ahrens drove in his third run of the game with a single to right to plate Rohm, putting the Shuckers at a 3-0 disadvantage. Lopez’s loss was not indicative of his performance on the mound. In six innings, the 22-year-old allowed the three runs on four hits, two walks and struck out seven. The back-to-back winner of the Brewers Minor League Pitcher of the Month award did earn his 12th quality start of the season, allowing the maximum of three runs over the minimum of six innings. Drew Gagnon made his first appearance as a Shucker since being transferred from Triple-A Colorado Springs. In two innings, the 25-year-old allowed four runs on six hits and two walks. Jed Bradley took the mound in ninth for Biloxi (19-21) and worked a scoreless frame. Biloxi’s best scoring chance came in the second after Victor Roache (0x3, BB) reached on a fielder’s choice and moved over to third on a double by Taylor Green (2x4, 2B). But, back-to-back groundouts to third by Tyrone Taylor (0x4) and Parker Berberet (0x3) ended the threat. The 10-game homestand continues on Saturday with game two of the series with the M-Braves. Saturday features a Post-Game Fireworks Extravaganza, weather permitting and a special appearance by former Atlanta Braves’ relief pitcher John Rocker. RHP Adrian Houser (0-0, 4.76) will make his MGM Park debut, and face off against RHP Zack Bird (0-0, 0.00). 15. Final: Biloxi 6, Mobile 2 Roache homers, drives in four to back Wagner in 6-2 win to even series The Shuckers have won two-straight and forced another series rubber match Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/4/6/2/141490462/cuts/8S1A6284_vahtrob5_lejvpmt9.JPG (M.K. Krebs) MOBILE, AL – Victor Roache ended an 0-for-9 stretch with a bang on Wednesday night, driving in four runs, including his 16th organizational homer in the Shuckers’ 6-2 victory over the Mobile BayBears at Hank Aaron Stadium. The win brings Biloxi back to .500 in the second half (18-18) and forces a third-straight series rubber match on Thursday night. For the first time this series, the Shuckers fell behind first after yielding a solo homerun in the second off the bat of Rudy Flores, falling into a 1-0 hole. That homer would be the only blip on Tyler Wagner’s line in his six innings of work. The Las Vegas, NV native, making his 19th start allowed one run on six hits, two walks and four strikeouts en route to his 14th quality start of the season and lowering his ERA to a league-best, 2.33. Biloxi (18-18, 62-54) took the lead in the fourth and never looked back behind Roache’s (3x4, HR, 4 RBI, R) two-run blast to left that snapped an 0-for-9 to start the series, and scored Orlando Arcia (1x4, 2 R, 2B) for a 2-1 lead. The Shuckers poured onto their lead in the sixth, sending nine batters to the plate in a four-run inning. Brett Phillips (1x4, R, 2B, BB) started the action with a walk and moved over to third on a double by Arcia, which was followed by a free pass to Nathan Orf (1x4, R, BB). Nick Ramirez (1x4, RBI, R, BB) walked to force in a run to give Biloxi a 3-1 edge. Roache drove in two more with a hard-hit single to center for a 5-1 advantage. A single by Brandon Macias (1x4) loaded the bases again for Tyrone Taylor (0x3, RBI), who’s sacrifice fly to left field brought home Ramirez to give the Shuckers a five-run lead. Arcia’s league-best 30th double extended his hitting streak to eight games. The 21-year-old is 13-for-29 over the streak. Manny Barreda came on to work the seventh for Biloxi and hit the first batter he faced in Raul Navarro and walked Evan Marzilli before retiring the next three batters to escape the inning, unscathed. Mobile added on a run in the eight with three consecutive singles by Zach Borenstein, Gabriel Guerrero and Flores to cut the Shuckers’ lead to four off of reliever Jacob Barnes. Yhonathan Barrios closed the game out with a perfect ninth, collecting a called third strike to end the game. Biloxi will look to take its third rubber match in as many series on Thursday night. Shuckers’ LHP Hobbs Johnson (7-4, 3.35) will face off against BayBears’ RHP John Omahen (5-0, 3.35). Josh Hader dominated the Mobile BayBears in his first appearance as a Biloxi Shucker, guiding his new team to a 3-0, shutout over the Mobile BayBears. The shutout was the league-leading 12th for Biloxi and third in the last six games. Hader, Brooks Hall and Damien Magnifico combined for the three-hitter. Hader (1-0) followed in the footsteps of Monday night’s starter, Adrian Houser, by striking out the first batter he faced as a member of the Shuckers. Over five innings of work, the lefty gave up just one hit, walked one and struck out a season-high, nine, one shy of his career-high (10 on April 4, 2014) in his Milwaukee Brewers’ organizational debut. The 21-year-old from Maryland allowed multiple base runners in the first, but had just one BayBear reach base on a wdropped third strike in the fourth. Shuckers’ starters have allowed four runs in the first three games of the series on 11 hits, two walks and 18 strikeouts in 16.1 innings pitched. Biloxi (18-19) opened the scoring for the sixth consecutive game by jumping out to a fast start in the first inning. Nathan Orf (1x4, 2 RBI) padded on the Biloxi lead with a bases-loaded, two-out, two-run single in the fifth, plating Nick Shaw (1x3, R, BB) and Phillips before Arcia was thrown out at third. Orf has now brought in runs in his last three games, tallying five over that span. Arcia extended his hitting streak to seven games and is 12-for-25 over the streak, logging now 35 multi-hit games this season. Brooks Hall came out of the bullpen in the sixth and picked up where Hader left off, setting down the side in order in all three inning. After getting a groundout to start the inning by Sean Jamieson, Jack Reinheimer and Socrates Brito pieced together back-to-back singles to break up a string of 14 consecutive BayBears set down in order by Biloxi pitching. A strikeout to Garret Weber and a groundout by Gabriel Guerrero ended the game and secured the shutout. The Shuckers dropped the first two games of their previous two series and won the next three. Biloxi now trails in the series 2-1 and trail in the overall season series with the BayBears, 9-11. The Shuckers will look to even up the series on Wednesday night and force a rubber match. 19. Final: Biloxi 3, Mobile 4 Shuckers fall on walk-off wild pitch in the ninth Adrian Houser debuts and allows three runs over 5.2 innings with six strikeouts Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/8/2/141015282/cuts/DSC07143_u7jkiazl_bssg0vhd.JPG MOBILE, AL - The Biloxi Shuckers had opportunities to take a late lead over the Mobile BayBears, but a walk-off wild pitch, with the bases loaded in the ninth was the difference in the 4-3 defeat on Monday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. This is the third consecutive series that tthe Shuckers have dropped the first two games, with Biloxi winning the final three contests in each of the previous two sets. Martin Viramontes (0-1) took the mound to start the ninth and permitted a leadoff single to Mark Thomas. A sacrifice bunt by Tom Belza moved the runner into scoring position. An infield single by Evan Marzilli and a walk to Jack Reinheimer loaded the bases for Zach Borenstein, who hit a sharp liner to Nathan Orf at third for the second out. With Garrett Weber at the plate, a wild pitch by Viramontes allowed Thomas to score from third for the winning run. Monday was just the second time the Shuckers have been walked-off against in their inaugural season. Adrian Houser, making his Shuckers and Brewers' organization debut started the bottom of the first by striking out the first batter he faced in Marzilli, and scattered four hits in the first five innings while striking out five. Mobile (23-13) tied things up at three with a one-out, three-run home run by Socrates Brito. Houser struck out Raul Navarro for his final out of the game before being replaced in a double switch for Jed Bradley (IP, H, SO). Houser came over from Houston last Thursday in a trade that sent Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers to the Astros. The 22-year-old allowed three runs on seven hits, no walks and six strikeouts. The former second-round pick becomes the first Biloxi starter to toss more than five innings and not walk a batter since Tyler Wagner accomplished the feat on July 1 against the Mississippi Braves. Biloxi (16-18) offered Milwaukee Brewers' fans a glimpse of the future with a two-out rally in the third to grab the early lead. Orlando Arcia's (2x3, RBI, 2 R, 2B, BB) double followed a walk to Brett Phillips (0x3, R, 2 BB) to bring home the first run of the game for the Shuckers. Arcia swiped third for his first stolen base of the game with Orf (2x3, 2 RBI, 3B, BB) at the plate, who promptly tripled to center to give Biloxi a 2-0 lead. A two-out walk to Arcia sparked another rally in the fifth, as the 20-year-old stole second and came around to score on a single by Orf for a 3-0 advantage over the BayBears. Arcia extended his hitting streak to six games and has five steals over his last four games, moving him up to 20 on the season. The Shuckers had a chance to retake the lead in the eighth with a leadoff single by Arcia and a walk to Orf, but back-to-back strikeouts to Nick Ramirez (0x3, BB) and Victor Roache (0x4) made two outs before Tyrone Taylor (0x3) flew out to right field to end the threat. Biloxi will look to avoid dropping the series at Mobile on Tuesday night after back-to-back one-run losses. Newcomer LHP Josh Hader (0-0, --) will make his first start as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers' organization after coming over in the same trade that brought Houser and Phillips over from Houston. Nick Ramirez (2x2, R, 2 BB) drew a walk to put the leadoff man aboard for the first time in the game for Biloxi and advanced to third, two batters later on Josh Fellhauer's (1x3, R, 2B) double into left field. Adam Weisenburger (1x3) flew out to right field in foul territory for the second out of the inning before Macias drove an 0-2 pitch into center to plate the runners and put the Shuckers in the lead. Lopez (10-4) ran into little trouble in his eight innings of shutout ball. Saturday's start was the fourth time in 2015 the Puerto Rico native held an opponent scoreless while pitching six or more innings. Lopez lowered his ERA to 2.52, which will rank fourth in the league going into play on Sunday. The Shuckers have now won 14 of his 19 starts this season. Final: Jackson 0, Biloxi 5 (Game One) Final: Jackson 3, Biloxi 5 (Game Two) Wagner's complete game one-hitter highlights doublheader sweep Wagner's game one gem and Victor Roache's big offensive night guide Shuckers Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/6/6/8/140277668/cuts/BRP_6672_wzap35hm_l9jr2dxu.JPG Tyler Wagner dealt a complete game shutout in game one of Friday's twin bill (Benton Reed Photography) BILOXI, MS - The Biloxi Shuckers took both games of Friday's doubleheader against the Jackson Generals at MGM Park, getting a complete game, one-hit shutout from Tyler Wagner in game one, and four RBI's over the twin bill from Victor Roache, upping his on-base streak in the process to 16 games. The doubleheader sweep was Biloxi's second-straight dating back to a sweep of Jacksonville on May 18, in Huntsville and the Shuckers have now won five-straight seven inning contests. Friday's twin bill was the first in the young history of MGM Park. GM 1: Shuckers 5, Generals 0 Both starting pitchers had no-hitters going into the third inning of game one, but it was the Shuckers that broke through on the scoreboard first. Taylor Green (0x1, RBI, R) became the first Shucker to reach base safely with a leadoff walk in the third, and moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Adam Weisenburger (0x1, RBI, R) that was thrown away by Generals' pitcher Stephen Landazuri (0-3), giving Biloxi two base runners with nobody out. Nick Shaw (0x1, R, BB) drew a free pass to load the bases for Nathan Orf (1x3, 2 RBI), who hit a sharp single into left field to plate Green and Weisenburger for a 2-0 lead. A RBI groundout two batters later by Victor Roache (0x2, RBI, R, BB) brought home Shaw for the third run of the inning. Those three runs would be more than enough for Tyler Wagner (8-5), who dominated Jackson (11-22) on the mound. The Las Vegas Native had a no-hitter going into the sixth, allowing just two base runners on two walks through the first five frames. A single to Tyler Bortnick to start the sixth broke up the no-hit bid, but the runner was erased on a double play. The 24-year-old righty needed just 90 pitches in the seven-inning complete-game, one-hit shutout, inducing 13 groundouts and striking out five to go along with three walks. The Shuckers have won Wagner's last two starts after dropping his previous three. Wagner also logged his 13th quality start and fifth out of his last six outings. The complete game was Wagner's second (first back on April 11 at Pensacola in a six-inning rain shortened game), making him one of just three to post two this season in the Southern League. Biloxi (15-17) tacked on another run in the fourth with a sacrifice fly by Weisenburger to score Tyrone Taylor (2x3, R, SB), and added another run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Taylor to bring home Roache, who started the frame with a walk to extend his on-base streak to 15 games. The shutout was the 10th posted by Biloxi this season (10-9 in shutout games) and marked just the second time they had held a club to only one hit. (last April 21 at Jacksonville). GM 2: Shuckers 5, Generals 3 The Shuckers started the scoring in game two, using back-to-back singles by Orf (2x3, 2 R, 2B) and Orlando Arcia (3x3, R, BB, 2 SB) to put runners on the corners, setting up Roache's (1x4, 3 RBI) RBI groundout to third to bring in Orf from third. Arcia's perfect game at the plate raised his average six points to put the 20-year-old back at .300 for the season. Biloxi (16-17) gained insurance with a three-run third to push the lead to 4-0. Arcia and Nick Ramirez (0x1, R, 3 BB) each drew one-out walks for Roache. Arcia swiped third to put runners on the corners and Roache grounded out, scoring Arcia and advancing Ramirez to second for a two-run advantage. Green (0x3, R, BB) and Taylor (2x2, BB) followed with free passes to load the bases for Josh Fellhauer (1x2, 2 RBI, BB), who delivered with a two-run single to center to open up a four-run lead. Jackson (11-23) responded with three runs in the fourth to cut the Shuckers' lead to one. A leadoff walk to Zach Shank scored two outs later on Jordy Lara's sixth triple of the season to put the Generals on the board for the first time on Friday night. A walk to Aderlin Rodriguez put runners on the corners for Jabari Henry, who doubled home both runners with a drive to left before being thrown out trying to extend the play to a triple. Game-two starter Hobbs Johnson fell an inning short of qualifying for the win in the doubleheader finale. In four innings of work, the southpaw allowed three runs on three hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Jacob Barnes (3-4) and Mike Strong continued the trend for the Shuckers' bullpen of not allowing any runs to score.
