  13. Final: Biloxi 0, Chattanooga 4 Shuckers fall short in game five of Southern League Championship Series Inaugural season comes to an end on Monday night in Chattanooga Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/7/5/0/150904750/cuts/DSC05373_tx2fevk2_p5d174vj.JPG Michael Reed collected two hits in game five on Monday night (John Shadrick) CHATTANOOGA, TN - The Biloxi Shuckers watched early scoring chances go by in game five of the BC Powder's Southern League Championship, dropping the deciding game five, 4-0, at AT&T Field. A crowd of 2,275 witnessed the first Southern League championship for the hometown Lookouts since 1988. Over the final three games of the Championship Series at AT&T Field, the Shuckers went 2-for-27 with runners in scoring position. Shuckers' starter Jorge Lopez (2-1) allowed two base runners in the first with two outs, but escaped the jam by getting Adam Brett Walker to bounce out to third. Lopez started out the second in trouble by surrendering a triple off the bat of Heiker Meneses to start the frame. After a strikeout to Levi Michael, Stuart Turner doubled to left to push across the first run of the game. Shannon Wilkerson drove in the runner with a single to center and advanced to second on a throwing error by Brett Phillips. Southern League MVP Max Kepler led off the third inning with his third homerun of the series, clearing the seats in right field to put the Shuckers in a three-run deficit. All three of Kepler's hits in the series were long balls. The Shuckers' ace lasted just three innings and allowed three runs on five hits, two walks and two strikeouts. An early chance eluded the Shuckers (2-3) in the second against Chattanooga starter DJ Baxendale (1-1), as Michael Reed (2x4) singled to start things off and moved over the third on Phillips' (2x4, 2B) double. Tyrone Taylor (0x2, 2 BB) walked to load the bases, but back-to-back strikeouts to Josh Fellhauer (0x2) and Nick Ramirez (0x2) and a groundout by Adam Weisenburger (1x3) ended the threat. The Shuckers had an opportunity for a two-out rally in the third to cut into the Lookouts' two-run lead, with Orlando Arcia (0x3, BB) reaching on a free pass and Reed poking a single up the middle, but Phillips flew out to right to end the inning. Another scoring opportunity passed by in the fifth with Weisenburger leading off with a single and Nick Shaw (0x3, BB) drawing a one-out walk, but a fly out to right by Arcia and a groundout by Reed wasted the chance. Jorge Ortega made his Biloxi debut and held down the Lookouts for three innings before allowing a run in the seventh to push the Shuckers' deficit to four. Over his 3.2 innings of work, the 22-year-old allowed the one run on two hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Baxendale finished the game having allowed four hits and three walks, but struck out three and did not give up a run. Jason Wheeler picked up where he left off in game two for Chattanooga (3-2), giving up just one hit, walking one and striking out three over the final four frames, securing his selection as the series MVP. The Southern League will take a break until April of 2016, when the brand new season gets underway. The Biloxi Shuckers begin their second year at MGM Park and first full season with a seven-game homestand, and the first five games against the Chattanooga Lookouts beginning on April 7. 14. Final: Biloxi 2, Chattanooga 0 Wagner, Barrios shutout Lookouts and give Shuckers 2-1 series advantage Tyler Wagner and Yhonathan Barrios combined for the shutout in game three Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/1/0/150603210/cuts/Barrios919_2p13hguq_aubor2nf.jpg Yhonathan Barrios earned his second postseason save and went 2.1 innings behind Wagner on Saturday night (John Shadrick) CHATTANOOGA, TN – The Biloxi Shuckers moved one game closer to finishing off a remarkable, inaugural season with a 2-0 shutout over the Chattanooga Lookouts in game three of the BC Powder’s Southern League Championship Series on Saturday night at AT&T Field. The 1,783 on hand, which included a loud contingent of Shuckers fans witnessed the club improve to 5-1 this postseason, needing just one more victory in order to claim the league title. The Shuckers won despite going 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position and stranding 12 on base, which included the bases loaded twice. Game four is at 1:15 pm CT on Sunday afternoon at AT&T Field. Biloxi (2-1) jumped out to a quick lead in the first thanks to the table setters at the top of the lineup. Yadiel Rivera (3x4, 2 R, 2B) started the game with a single and moved over to third on Nick Shaw’s (1x4, 2B) double into the right-field corner. After Orlando Arcia (0x4, BB) popped up to first base, Michael Reed (1x2, RBI, 2 BB) smashed a sacrifice fly to deep center, allowing Rivera to score for the 1-0 lead. The Shuckers squandered a scoring chance in the fourth by leaving the bases loaded, but would break through to extend the lead in the fifth. Rivera doubled to start the frame and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Shaw. Arcia was intentionally walked to put runners on the corners, and ended then night for Chattanooga (1-2) starter Greg Peavey. Reed was the first batter to face off against DJ Johnson and drew a five-pitch walk against the reliever to load the bases for Josh Fellhauer (0x3, BB). The Shuckers’ designated hitter hit a slow roller to short and beat out a potential double play, allowing Rivera to score the insurance run. The two-run cushion would be plenty of support for Tyler Wagner (2-0), who continued his dominance in the postseason by shutting out the Lookouts over his 6.2 innings of work, striking out eight and walking just one while giving up six hits on 109 pitches – 70 for strikes. In two postseason starts, the 24-year-old, Las Vegas native did not allow a run over 12.2 innings, struck out 15, walked five and gave up nine base hits. Wagner’s total ERA – including the playoffs – sits at 2.07 over 165 innings with the Shuckers. The former Utah Ute has not allowed a run in three Double-A postseason starts over 18.2 innings which includes two outings at AT&T Field. The right-hander would give way to the bullpen with two outs in the seventh and runners at the corners for Yhonathan Barrios (SV, 2). The 23-year-old from Cartagena, Colombia walked the first batter he faced in Stephen Wickens to load the bases, but got Jorge Polanco to pop out to short to escape the jam. Barrios gave up a one-out double in the eighth to Travis Harrison, but struck out DJ Hicks and got Adam Brett Walker II to fly out to right to leave the runner stranded. Another one-out base runner reached in the ninth, but Barrios dug in and struck out Shannon Wilkerson and got Wickens to bounce out to Arcia at short to preserve the game three victory. Clutch hitting eluded both teams in the game-three matchup, as the squads combined to go 1-for-21 with runners in scoring position Biloxi will look to take home the Southern League Championship in game four on Sunday afternoon at AT&T Field. LHP Josh Hader (1-4, 2.79) will make his first career start against Chattanooga after facing them in a relief appearance in game one. 15. Final: Chattanooga 6, Biloxi 1 Kepler homers twice as Lookouts even Championship Series Chattanooga took game two of SLCS on Thursday night at MGM Park, 6-1 Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/5/4/150219154/cuts/8S1A0064_cvs4ial5_26okp7zl.JPG Adrian Houser dropped to 1-1 this postseason after the loss on Thursday night in game two of SLCS (M.K. Krebs) BILOXI, MS - Southern League most valuable player Max Kepler belted two two-out homeruns and Jason Wheeler took a no-hitter into the sixth for the Chattanooga Lookouts, as they defeated the Biloxi Shuckers a 6-1 in front of a crowd of 3,173 at MGM Park. Biloxi's four-game winning streak to start the postseason came to a halt on Thursday night and evened the series at one game apiece in this best-of-five set, as series becomes a best-of-three heading into AT&T Field in Chattanooga, Tenn. starting on Saturday. Kepler snapped out of a 3-for-19 slump to start the postseason in a big way on Thursday, smacking a solo homerun in the first to put Biloxi in a 1-0 hole before even taking a swing. The Berlin, Germany native was at it again in the fifth with a grand slam to break the game open, placing the Shuckers in a five-run deficit. Biloxi starter Adrian Houser (1-1) started the inning with two quick outs from Heiker Meneses and Stuart Turner, but a single by Shannon Wikerson and back-to-back walks to Steve Wickens and Jorge Polanco set the stage for Kepler's slam. Houser took the hill attempting to replicate his complete-game shutout performance over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in game two of the Division Series on Sept. 11 in which the Oklahoma native allowed three hits and struck out 10, but failed to make it out of the fifth for the second time in his last three starts dating back to his final regular season start on Sept. 5 against the Tennessee Smokies. In 4.2 innings on Thursday, the 22-year-old allowed five runs on three hits, three walks and five punchouts. Biloxi's (1-1) offense was no-hit by Wheeler (1-0) through the first five innings, but broke through in the sixth with three consecutive singles by Nick Shaw (2x3, R), Yadiel Rivera (1x3, BB) and Orlando Arcia (1x4) to start the frame. Michael Reed (0x1, 3 BB) lined out to third for the first out and Garrett Cooper (0x3, RBI) grounded out to second, scoring Shaw to break up the shutout bid. Chattanooga (1-1) brought the Shuckers' deficit back to five with another two-out run in the seventh when Travis Harrison singled up the middle against Drew Gagnon to plate Turner. Both teams will take a breather on Friday and travel to Chattanooga for game three on Saturday. Southern League ERA champion RHP Tyler Wagner (1-0, 0.00) takes the bump for the Shuckers, while it has yet to be determined who will make the start for the Lookouts. First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:00 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. Krebs) BILOXI, MS – Behind another masterful performance from starter Jorge Lopez and homers from Orlando Arcia and Brett Phillips, the Biloxi Shuckers took a 1-0 lead in the BC Powder’s Southern League Championship Series after a 7-2 triumph in game one on Wednesday night at MGM Park. In four postseason games, the Shuckers are now 4-0 and have scored 24 runs on 42 hits, with just one opposing starter lasting into the sixth inning (Daniel Wright – 5.1 innings on Sept. 10). The game one winner has won three of the last four Southern League Championships. After four games, Shuckers starting pitchers have a 0.34 ERA, giving up just one earned run over 28.2 innings. Lopez stopped the consecutive innings without an earned run by giving up one in the third inning. Biloxi (1-0) had to play from behind for the first time this postseason as Chattanooga (0-1) plated the first run of the game in the third on a RBI single off the bat of Jorge Polanco, scoring Stuart Turner. The earned was the first in 24.1 innings allowed by Shuckers starting pitching this postseason. The Shuckers had a quick answer in the home-half of the third. Adam Weisenburger (1x2, 2 R) started the inning by being hit by a pitch and came around to score the tying run on Yadiel Rivera’s (2x5, 3 RBI, R, 2B, 3B) triple to right-center field. Arcia (2x3, HR, 3 RBI, R, BB) followed with a line drive blast just to the right of the auxiliary scoreboard in left field to give Biloxi a 3-1 lead. In four postseason games, the Milwaukee Brewers’ top-ranked prospect is batting .625, 10-for-16 with three doubles, a triple, three homeruns and nine RBI. The two-run margin was more than enough for Lopez (2-0). In seven innings of work, the 22-year-old allowed just the one run on four hits, a walk and six strikeouts. In two starts over the postseason, the Puerto Rico native has allowed two runs – one earned – over 13.2 innings of work while walking four and striking out 13. Phillips (1x3, HR, RBI, 2 R, BB) extended Biloxi’s lead to three with a solo shot in the fourth, his first long ball since joining the Shuckers on Aug. 1. Arcia added another RBI in the fifth with a single up the middle to bring in Nick Shaw (1x4, R, 2B). Rivera plated two more runs in the sixth on a double to center that scored Phillips and Weisenburger to give the Shuckers a commanding, 7-1, lead. Josh Hader came out of the bullpen to take the eighth and worked around an error and a walk by striking out the side. Damien Magnifico took the bump in the ninth and allowed a run, but ultimately finished off the game Biloxi will look to take a two-game advantage in the best-of-five matchup with Chattanooga in game two on Thursday night at MGM Park. RHP Adrian Houser (1-0, 0.00) will make his second start of the postseason for the Shuckers, and first since tossing a shutout and striking out 10 against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in game two of the Divisional Round on Sept. 11. Final: Biloxi 7, Pensacola 5 SHUCKERS COMPLETE SWEEP OF BLUE WAHOOS EARNING SOUTH DIVSISION TITLE Orlando Arcia goes 4-for-5 with a homer, two doubles and two RBI in the 7-5 on Saturday http://www.milb.com/assets/images/6/9/6/149043696/cuts/_BRP4432_wsl6w12n_dvdkeil6.jpg Orlando Arcia smacked a two-run home run in the top of the fourth capping a five-run inning (Benton Reed Photography) PENSACOLA, FL – The Biloxi Shuckers’ magical inaugural season continues to move right along after the team completed the sweep over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at Bayfront Stadium on Saturday night with a 7-5 victory, advancing to the Southern League Championship Series. Biloxi outscored Pensacola 17-7 over three games while collecting 33 hits. The pitching staff dominated the Blue Wahoos all series, giving up seven runs on 11 hits, while striking out 30. Biloxi (3-0) took the lead first for the third straight game with a two-out rally in the third. After Tyler Wagner struck out to start the inning and Yadiel Rivera (0x5, RBI) followed with a fly out to right, Orlando Arcia (4x5, HR, 2 RBI, 3 R, 3 2B) socked his second double of the game to set up Michael Reed’s (1x3, RBI, 2B, BB) double off the right-field wall to bring in the runner and give the Shuckers a 1-0 advantage. Wagner (1-0) set down the Blue Wahoos in order in the home-half of the third to reserve the lead and his offense responded in a big way in the fourth. Tyrone Taylor (2x5, 2B, RBI, R) started the five-run frame with a double and moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt by Brett Phillips (0x3, R), with Phillips reaching first safely to put runners on the corners. Nick Shaw (2x4, RBI, R) drove in Taylor with a line-drive single to center to extend the Shuckers’ lead to two. Adam Weisenburger’s (1x3, R, BB) infield single loaded the bases with nobody out for Wagner, who struck out for the first out of the inning. Rivera followed by bouncing a ball to second, scoring a run and advancing Shaw and Weisenburger. With Arcia at the plate, a passed ball allowed Shaw to score and moving Weisenburger to third. Acia then sent a towering, two-run shot into the bay beyond the left-field wall to blow the game open to a 6-0 lead. The Milwaukee Brewers’ top prospect throttled Pensacola pitching over the three games, finishing 8-for-13 with two homeruns, four RBI, five runs scored, three doubles and a triple. Pensacola (0-3) threatened to push across a run in the fifth by loading the bases with one out, but Wagner popped up pinch hitter Ray Chang and struck out Phillip Ervin to escape the jam. Wagner worked out of another rough spot in the sixth. After allowing a single to Jesse Winker and walking Marquez Smith with one out, the 24-year-old bore down and struck out Juan Duran and got Seth Mejias-Brean to fly out to center to keep the Blue Wahoos off the board. The Las Vegas native finished the night with six shutout innings, giving up three hits, walking four and punching out six. Shuckers’ manager turned to Jacob Barnes as the first man out of the bullpen to start the seventh and after retiring the first two men he faced, a single by Zach Vincej and back-to-back walks to Ervin and Alex Blandino loaded the bases and forced another move to the bullpen. Jed Bradley walked the only batter he faced in Winker to force in the first run to end the shutout. Yhonathan Barrios was the next reliever to come on for the Shuckers, and gave up a grand slam to Smith to cut Biloxi’s lead to two. The 23-year-old settled down after the slam, retiring the final seven batters of the game to ensure Biloxi’s spot in the Southern League Championship. The Shuckers will now await the winner of Montgomery and Chattanooga from the North Division Series, which is tied at one game apiece. The Shuckers will host games one and two of the Southern League Championship Series at MGM Park with dates to be determined. Tickets are currently on sale for those potential contests. 18. Final: Pensacola 0, Biloxi 6 Houser flirts with perfection in complete game shutout of Wahoos Biloxi wins 6-0 and takes a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/9/8/6/148847986/cuts/8S1A9304_pfmcyl7z_isgflme6.JPG Houser needed just 99 pitches to toss his first career complete-game shutout (M.K. Krebs) BILOXI, MS - Adrian Houser was perfect through six innings and retired 27 of the 28 Pensacola Blue Wahoos hitters he faced Friday night in the Biloxi Shuckers 6-0 victory at MGM Park. The 22-year-old tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout which provides a commanding 2-0 series lead in the best-of-five divisional round. The series is now headed to Pensacola Bayfront Stadium for the final three games, with the Shuckers needing just one more win to secure a spot in the Southern League Championship Series. Offensively Orlando Arcia belted his first postseason home run in a four-run fifth inning, and was one of three Shuckers with multi-hit performances. The Shuckers have out-hit the Wahoos 22-6 over the first two games in the series. Houser (1-0) started out quickly on the mound, striking out Phillip Ervin to start the game and needed just eight pitches to work through the first and another 10 in the second, before striking out the side in the third to complete the first round against the Blue Wahoos' lineup. Two more strikeouts for the Oklahoma native highlighted the next three innings, as the 6'4" hurler induced five more groundouts to stay perfect through six. The perfection would come to an end in the seventh, as leadoff man Phillip Ervin singled on a line drive to center. A double play off the bat of Alex Blandino brought Houser back to facing the minimum, but a single by Jesse Winker ended those plans before Marquez Smith grounded out to second to end the inning. Houser, who was acquired by Milwaukee on July 31 from Houston, went into the ninth with 91 pitches under his belt and struck out Yovan Gonzalez to start the final frame. A single by Eric Wright put a man on for Ervin, who hit into a game-ending 4-6-3 double play to give the Shuckers a 2-0 series edge. Houser finished the night allowing just the three hits in his first ever complete game at the professional level with a career-high 10 strikeouts on 99 pitches. Houser's career-high in innings during a start is seven. Biloxi (2-0) started the scoring in the first for the second-consecutive night. Yadiel Rivera and Orlando Arcia started the inning before Michael Reed walked to load the bases with nobody out. Garret Cooper grounded out to first, allowing Rivera to score. The Shuckers loaded the bases again in the second, but failed to push a man across, stranding five and starting 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Pensacola (0-2) starter Cody Reed (0-1) settled in after the second, retiring eight straight batters entering the fifth. Rivera started the halfway point with his third single of the game, setting up Arcia's two-run blast over the auxiliary scoreboard in left to give Biloxi a three-run cushion. Michael Reed followed the homer with a double and Tyrone Taylor drove the runner in an out later with a single to left. Pensacola turned to Jacob Johnson to relieve Reed. Brandon Macias greeted the new righty out of the bullpen with a single and Victor Roache followed with a run-scoring single to left to plate Taylor and gave the Shuckers a five-run lead. Biloxi tallied another run in the seventh with a RBI double from Cooper to score Reed. The Shuckers head to Pensacola to potentially wrap up the series and clinch a spot in the Southern League Championship on Saturday night. Southern League ERA champion RHP Tyler Wagner (11-5, 2.25) takes the wheel for Biloxi, while Pensacola will counter with RHP Tim Adleman (9-10, 2.64). Wagner finished with a perfect 3-0 record against the Blue Wahoos in 2015, with just five runs - four earned - allowed in 25 innings. Adleman dropped three of four contests against the Shuckers during the regular season, allowing eight runs - four earned - over 24.1 innings of work. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:20 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. Lopez’s 115-pitch performance gives the Shuckers a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series. Lopez (1-0) took over where he left off in the regular season, allowing just an unearned run on two hits, three walks and seven strikeouts in 6.2 innings on the season-high115 pitches – 65 for strikes. Biloxi (1-0) came out of the gate swinging to take an early 1-0 lead at the end of the first. Yadiel Rivera (2x5, R) singled to kick start the offense and came all the way around to score on Orlando Arcia’s (2x4, 2 RBI, R, 3B) triple to center. Pensacola (0-1) tied things up with an unearned run in the third. Ray Chang reached on an error by Arcia at shortstop to start the inning and advanced to second on the play. After moving over to third on a sacrifice bunt by Daniel Wright, Phillip Ervin brought in the tying run with a groundout to second. The Shuckers had a leadoff double in the fourth from Tyrone Taylor (2x3, 2B), but could not get the run across. Instead, Biloxi used a leadoff double from Nick Shaw (2x4, R, 2B) in the fifth to piece together a rally. Rivera singled the runner over to third after Lopez struck out, and Arcia drove in his second run of the game with a groundout to second. Biloxi added insurance with a RBI double from Brett Phillips (2x3, RBI, 2 2B) in the sixth and a RBI groundout by Garrett Cooper (0x3, RBI, R, BB) to plate Arcia in the seventh for a 4-1 advantage. Jacob Barnes took over for Lopez with two outs in the seventh and struck out Ryan Wright to end the inning and carried that momentum into the eighth, striking out two more in a perfect frame. Damien Magnifico, who saved 20 games in 22 chances during the regular season, struggled to shut the door on the Blue Wahoos in the ninth. Back-to-back walks to Marquez Smith and Juan Duran started the inning and a fielder’s choice by Seth Mejias-Brean placed runners on the corners. Chang singled home Smith to cut the Shuckers’ lead to 4-2. Southern League Manager of the Year Carlos Subero turned to Yhonathan Barrios (SV, 1) to pick up the final two outs. The 23-year-old responded in kind, striking out Skipworth and inducing a groundout to second from Zach Vincej to end the game. A crowd on 3,041 witnessed a few milestones as Tyler Wagner claimed the league's ERA title at 2.25 in game two, and manager Carlos Subero set a new career high in wins, as he tops his previous high set in 2011 and 2014. The Shuckers will begin postseason play on Thursday night at MGM Park in game one of the best-of-five Division Series against the South Division second half champion Pensacola Blue Wahoos, with first pitch set for 7:10 pm. Game 1: Smokies 2, Shuckers 0 Josh Hader (1-4) coasted into the fourth inning of the opener before running into trouble. The southpaw hit Bijan Rademacher to start the inning and gave up back-to-back singles to Wilson Contreras and Jeimer Candelario to load the bases. A walk to Dan Vogelbach brought in Rademacher to put the Shuckers down a run. That one run would be the only blemish on Hader's line, as the Maryland native allowed the run on four hits, two walks and six strikeouts. In 38.2 innings with Biloxi, Hader struck out 49 batters and walked 11 in seven games. The Shuckers have been shutout in four of his last five starts. Biloxi had a chance to put a run on the board in the fourth, but came up empty when Hader popped up to third with the bases loaded and two outs. The Shuckers went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position and stranded seven on base. The shutout was the 14th of the season suffered by Biloxi. Game 2: Shuckers 3, Smokies 2 Biloxi (35-34) grabbed the early lead in the season finale with a run in the second against Smokies reliever Corey Black. Tyrone Taylor (0x2, R, BB) started the frame by striking out, but a wild pitch allowed the 21-year-old to reach first base safely. With Nick Ramirez (1x1, RBI, 2 BB) at the plate, Taylor stole second and came around to score when Ramirez roped a 3-2 pitch off the right-field wall. The lead did not last long as Tyler Wagner allowed two runs to score in the third to put the Shuckers down a run. Bryant Flete tripled down the right-field line and scored on Tyler Pearson's triple that followed to right-center. Black hit a grounder to Orlando Arcia at shortstop, who tagged out Pearson for the first out. Jacob Hannemann, Stephen Bruno and Bijan Rademacher each singled to plate another run and place Biloxi in a one-run deficit. Wagner tossed five innings in his final start of the regular season, surrendering both runs on five hits, two walks and two strikeouts. The Las Vegas native finished the year with a 2.25 ERA, one one-hundredth of a point better than teammate Jorge Lopez to win the ERA crown in the Southern League. The Shuckers rallied in the sixth to take the lead over the Smokies. Garrett Cooper (1x1, R, 2 BB) walked to start things out and moved to third on a single by Josh Fellhauer (1x3, R). After a groundout to short by Taylor, Ramirez was intentionally walked to load the bases. A free pass to Adam Weisenburger (0x2, RBI, BB) forced in the tying run before Nick Shaw (0x3) struck out for the second out. Pinch hitter Taylor Green (0x0, RBI, BB) drew a walk to drive in the winning run. Damien Magnifico earned his 20th save in 22 chances by working a scoreless ninth. Biloxi will take the next two days off before its first-round matchup with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Sept. 10. Lopez would then pick up back-to-back strikeouts and a groundout to get out of the first. Lopez coasted through his outing after the first. The 2015 Southern League Most Outstanding Pitcher allowed just three more hits, walked two and picked up another strikeout after the first before being lifted with two outs in the sixth. Tennessee (35-32) turned to Tayler Scott to get out of the inning, but Arcia promptly hit a two-run single into left to blow the game open and give the Shuckers a 7-2 advantage. Cooper collected his fifth multi-hit performance in just six games with Biloxi. Manny Barreda came out of the bullpen to start the ninth, but struggled to get two outs. Hannemann singled to start the inning and advanced to second on wild pitch. Anthony Giansanti singled to center and Bijan Rademacher flew out to center, advancing Hannemann to third. Krebs) BILOXI, MS - The Biloxi Shuckers suffered their worst defeat in MGM Park's short, 39-game history, falling to the Tennessee Smokies on Thursday night, 11-3, in front of a crowd of 3,114. Biloxi pitching issued 10 walks, including five in a Tennessee, seven-run third inning. With four games remaining, the playoff bound Shuckers are mathematically still in the second half hunt, 2 ½ games back, in fourth place in the South Division standings. The 11 runs and eight-run margin of defeat was season-highs at MGM Park as well as the four errors and seven run inning in the third. Biloxi (33-32) grabbed a lead in the second inning with a two-spot. Back-to-back walks to Garrett Cooper (2x3, R, BB) and Tyrone Taylor (0x3, RBI, R, BB) put two on before Nick Ramirez (2x4, 2B) went down on strikes for the first out. A free pass to Parker Berberet (1x3, BB) loaded the bases for Nick Shaw (1x4, 2 RBI), who stroked a two-run single to center to bring in Cooper and Taylor for the 2-0 lead. Cooper would single in his next at-bat in the third to set a new team record for most consecutive hits with six, and is now 13-for-19(.684), hitting in all five games at the Double-A level with Biloxi. The advantage would not last long as Hobbs Johnson (7-8) could not find the strike zone for a second consecutive outing. The third inning began with Albert Almora, Jr. grounding out, but a walk to Dan Vogelbach and a single by Wilson Contreras put two on for the Smokies. Johnson struck out Jeimer Candelario for the second out, but walked the next two batters to force in a run and cut the Shuckers' lead to one while ending the night for the 24-year-old. A wild pitch to Bijan Rademacher allowed Anthony Giansanti to score to put Biloxi down by two. Rademacher then drove a two-run double to right to put Biloxi in a four-run hole. Almora skied one in front of home plate, but Berberet could not handle the popup in fair territory, allowing Rademacher to score from second to complete the seven-run inning. Taylor put a run on the board for Biloxi in the third with a RBI fielder's choice, scoring Josh Fellhauer (0x4, R, BB), but Tennessee (35-31) responded in the fourth with a RBI double by Bryant Flete to put the Shuckers back down five. Final: Biloxi 5, Mississippi 4 SHUCKERS USE FOUR-RUN RALLY IN SEVENTH TO TAKE OUT BRAVES, 5-4 Biloxi takes Magnolia State Rivalry, 12-11, over Mississippi behind Cooper’s historical five-hit night Chris Harris/Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/6/8/2/146862682/cuts/IMG_0067_yxs4k2t8_my73mgdw.JPG Garrett Cooper is 11-for-16 in his first four games as a Biloxi Shucker (Elwin WIlliams) PEARL, MS – The Biloxi Shuckers’ offense woke up late and used a four-run seventh-inning to take out the Mississippi Braves on Tuesday night, 5-4, behind Garrett Cooper’s record-setting five-hit performance at Trustmark Park. The win gives the Shuckers a season victory over the Braves, 12-11, in the final matchup of the regular season between the two clubs, and moves them 2 ½ games back of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos for first place in the Southern League South with five games remaining. Biloxi (33-31) had to play from behind early as Mississippi plated the first run of the game in the first. Mycal Jones doubled to start the bottom of the inning and came around to score two batters later on KD Kang’s RBI groundout to third. The Shuckers tied things up with a run in the third. Adam Weisenburger (1x5, R) started the frame with a single and advanced to second on Tyler Wagner’s sacrifice bunt. After a ground out to second by Yadiel Rivera (1x4, R, BB) advanced the runner to third, Orlando Arcia (3x5, 2 RBI, R) drove Weisenburger home with an infield single to third. Arcia’s three-hit day was his 15th of the season and 47th multi-hit game of the year which also extended his on-base streak to 16 games. Mississippi (35-29) plated two runs in the fourth to take a two-run advantage over the Shuckers. Kevin Ahrens lifted a homerun to left-center to put Biloxi in a one-run deficit. Rio Ruiz flew out to left for the first out, but a walk to Steve Rodriguez and an error on Rivera at second allowed Matt Lipka to reach safely and put two on. A groundout to short by Eric Garcia moved the runners up a base after the second out, leading to Greg Ross’ RBI single for the second run of the inning. The Shuckers’ deficit grew to three after Ahrens added a RBI single in the fifth off of reliever Brooks Hall (8-8) to drive home Levi Hyams. Biloxi sent nine men to the plate and struck for four runs to jump on top in the seventh against the Braves’ bullpen. Pinch hitter Nick Shaw (0x0, R, BB) walked to start the inning and Rivera singled to put two on for Arcia, who deposited another RBI single to make it a 4-2 game. Taylor Green (0x1, R, BB) walked to load the bases before Josh Fellhauer (0x5) struck out for the first out. Tyrone Taylor (3x5, RBI) drove in Rivera with a single to left to bring the Shuckers within two. Cooper continued his onslaught of Southern League pitching with a two-run double to left to score Arcia and Green to complete the four-spot. Cooper’s five-hit performance makes him 11-for-16 (.688 average) in four games since joining the Double-A squad and puts him in Shuckers’ baseball history as the first player to have a five-hit game. Jacob Barnes took the bottom of the seventh and walked a batter, but struck out two and did not allow any damage. Damien Magnifico worked the final two frames for his 18th save in 20 chances. The Shuckers will have a day off on Wednesday before returning home to face the Tennessee Smokies for the final five games of the season at MGM Park. LHP Hobbs Johnson (7-7, 3.61) will look to finish the season above .500 for the Shuckers, while RHP Andres Santiago takes the mound for the Smokies. 25. Final: Biloxi 0, Mississippi 3 Hader delivers another quality start in shutout loss to Braves Orlando Arcia's franchise-best hit streak snapped at 14 games Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/6/8/8/146587688/cuts/8S1A7703_0rg2yzuk_axhnojaa.JPG Josh Hader picked up his third quality start in six outings with the Shuckers on Monday night (M.K. Krebs) PEARL, MS - The inaugural Magnolia State Rivalry will come down to the ultimate rubber match as the Biloxi Shuckers fell to the Mississippi Braves on Monday night, 3-0, to even the season series at 11 wins apiece. The Shuckers were shutout for the 13th time in 2015, but picked up their 55th quality start of the season behind Josh Hader's strong start. The loss gave the Braves' a series victory, taking three of the first four in the set. The M-Braves sit a ½ game behind Pensacola in second place in the South standings, while the Shuckers drop to 3 ½ games out with six to play in the half. The second half winner will face Biloxi in game one and two of the South Division Series, Sept. 10-11 at MGM Park. The Shuckers concluded the month of August by playing 30 games in 31 days and finishing 16-14, matching their win totals in May and June. Hader (1-3) struck out the side in the second and the leadoff batter to start the third, but allowed three runs in that frame to put Biloxi in a three-run hole. Mississippi's rally started with Stephen Janas singling to center and moving up to second after Emerson Landoni was hit by a pitch. Mycal Jones followed with a two-run double to put the Shuckers in a two-run deficit. KD Kang followed with a RBI single to right to bring in Jones and put Biloxi down by three. Hader impressed outside of that three-run third, striking out eight without issuing a walk in seven innings. The southpaw has recorded three quality starts in his last four outings, including back-to-back seven inning outings. The Shuckers' offense has struggled in those starts, scoring just three runs - with three shutouts - during that stretch. In six Biloxi starts, Hader is 1-3, but has a 2.94 ERA with 44 strikeouts and just nine walks (0.95 WHIP). The Millersville, MD native is holding the opposition to a .194 average. Braves' starter Stephen Janas (2-7) did not allow a ball to leave the infield in his six innings, with the lone hit coming on a slow roller to third off the bat of Yadiel Rivera to start the fifth. In his first win since July 19, Janas gave up just the one hit, walked two batters and struck out three for his second Double-A victory. Martin Viramontes made his first appearance since being hit by a line drive on Aug. 28, and worked a perfect eighth on 13 pitches. Orlando Arcia's (0x3, BB) franchise record 14-game hitting streak was snapped after the hitless performance, but the on-base streak stayed alive after drawing a walk in the first. Mississippi's Rio Ruiz had his 15-game hitting streak end as well. The only multi-hit contest came from Rivera, going 2-for-4. Biloxi (32-31) will look to salvage the five-game series and take the inaugural Magnolia State Rivalry series on Tuesday night. RHP Tyler Wagner (11-5, 2.13) takes the start for the Shuckers, while the Braves will have RHP Greg Ross (7-9, 4.10) toeing the rubber. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network.
