  1. Final: Chattanooga 0, Biloxi 3 Peralta sharp in Shuckers' 3-0 shutout of Lookouts Wily Peralta tossed 3.2 scoreless in his second minor league rehab Thursday Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/9/2/2/136983922/cuts/8S1A5391_dawqemjh_tf2f1osk.JPG Wily Peralta took the mound for Biloxi on Thursday night at MGM Park (M.K. Krebs) BILOXI, MS - The Shuckers bounced back on Thursday with a 3-0 shutout over the Chattanooga Lookouts in front of an energetic crowd of 3,547 at MGM Park. Milwaukee Brewers rehabbing right-hander Wily Peralta tossed 3.2 scoreless innings and threw 58 pitches in his second minor league rehab outing, first for Biloxi. The win puts the Shuckers back at .500, 9-9 in the second half and 18 games over .500 on the season, 53-35. The shutout was the ninth posted this season which is tied for first in the league. Peralta allowed a hit in his first two innings, but did not allow a Chattanooga Lookout to get any elevation when making contact in the first two frames, inducing three groundouts and striking out two in the early portion of the game. On the night, the 26-year-old picked up five groundouts, two fly outs and three punch outs in his 3.2 innings of work on 58 pitches in his second rehab start. Peralta was facing the Lookouts for the fifth time in his career (Dodgers affiliate at the time), and first since 2011 while with Huntsville. Biloxi (10-10) scored first for the sixth consecutive game during the fourth inning, taking advantage of four walks from Chattanooga starter Brett Lee (0-4) and an error to plate three runs. A one-out single by Tyrone Taylor (1x3, R) got the offense going in the frame and back-to-back walks to Michael Reed (1x2, R, 2 BB) and Nick Ramirez (0x3, R, BB) with two outs loaded the bases for Victor Roache (0x3, RBI, BB), who drew a third-consecutive walk to force in the first run of the inning. Brandon Macias's (0x3) hot shot to third was misplayed by Niko Goodrum, allowing Reed to score from third and keep the bases loaded for Parker Bereberet (1x2, RBI, BB), who drew the fourth walk of the inning to bring in the third run, providing the Shuckers a 3-0 advantage. The Shuckers used a heavy workload from the bullpen on Thursday, needing four arms to come on in relief. Derek Eitel (W, 1-1, 1.1 IP, SO), Brooks Hall (IP, H, SO), Manny Barreda (1.2 IP, H, BB, 3 SO) and Mike Strong (SV, 4, 1.1 IP, BB, 2 SO) pitched the final 5.1 innings, shutting out Chattanooga (5-14) on two hits, two walks and seven strikeouts. Eitel earned his first win as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers on the mound, pitching for the first time as a Shucker at MGM Park. Eitel last pitched on June 6 as a member of the Mobile BayBears. Strong logged his fourth save tossing the final 1.1 innings. Biloxi will try to pull ahead in the five-game series with Chattanooga in game three on Friday night. Friday's game will feature Post-Game Fireworks! RHP Johnny Hellweg (0-2, 7.20) will make his third start of the season for the Shuckers, while the Lookouts will counter with RHP D.J. He'll still need a couple of more rehab starts to get stretched out, but the Brewers could have a decision to make with their starting rotation before long. Though either Kyle Lohse or Matt Garza (hopefully both) could go in a trade and free up a spot for Wily. Outstanding effort from the bullpen, combining to go five and a third innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two hits and two walks while recording seven strikeouts. Even though the average has dipped a bit in recent weeks, Michael Reed continues to get on base for the Shuckers. He reached base in three of his four plate appearances tonight, picking up a single and a pair of walks. Orlando Arcia singled and stole a pair of bases. The Shuckers outfielder's last two home runs have come as game-winning, extra-inning blasts, with the first coming against the Montgomery Biscuits on June 20 at MGM Park. Damien Magnifico (SV, 12) walked the first man he faced in the bottom of the 11th in Tyler Pearson, but got the third double play of the night from Bryant Flete and induced Jacob Hannemann into a groundout to secure his 12th save of the season and second in as many days. Brooks Hall (6 IP, 4 R, 8 H, 2 BB, 4 SO) brought in Roache with a bunt that resulted in a fielder's choice with Weisenburger being erased at second base. Nick Shaw (1x5, RBI, R, 3B) ripped a triple into right to bring in Hall from first and give the Shuckers a two-run edge. Nathan Orf (2x5, RBI, R, 2B) followed with a double into left to give Biloxi its third run of the inning. Tennessee (6-8) responded with two runs off to cut the Shuckers' lead down to one in the third. Billy McKinney's two-run double plated Elliot Soto and Bijan Rademacher for the Smokies' two runs in the frame. Tennessee would add two more runs in the fifth on a two-run single by Stephen Bruno, bringing in Soto and Wilson Contreras to give the Smokies a one-run advantage. The Shuckers knotted the game at four off of former big leaguer Rafael Soriano with a run in the eighth. Orf started the frame with a single and moved over to third on Orlando Arcia's (2x5) single through the right side for his second hit of the game to make him the first player in the Southern League to reach 100 hits for the season. Michael Reed (0x5) bounced into a fielder's choice to bring in Orf from third to tie the game. Manny Barreda walked one and struck out one in his two innings of relief for Biloxi. Final: Biloxi 1, Montgomery 5 Wagner's 10th quality start not enough in loss to Biscuits Monday Biscuits take a 2-1 series edge after a 5-1 win Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/0/3/8/135160038/cuts/shuckersfull_33_qej1hyba_qf7y4kt8.jpg Tyler Wagner allowed four runs, two earned over 6.1 innings on Monday night (Jason Clark) MONTGOMERY, AL - Hyped as a great pitching matchup, Southern League All-Stars' Tyler Wagner and Blake Snell didn't disappoint, but Wagner, despite his 10th quality start and tying a season-high with seven strikeouts fell short in the 5-1 loss at Riverwalk Stadium. The loss on Monday positions the Shuckers on the brink of dropping a series for the first time in their last 10, since losing three of five to the Jackson Generals May 11-15. Montgomery leads the five-game series 2-1. Montgomery (6-4) struck first in the bottom of the first with two unearned runs against Wagner. Tyler Goeddel reached on an error by third baseman Brandon Macias (12, BB) with one out. Cameron Seitzer followed with a single and Johnny Field, Jr. reached on a fielder's choice before Justin O'Conner brought in the first run of the game with a double. Wagner balked home Field to put the Shuckers in a 2-0 hole after the first inning. Biloxi (6-5) got on the board in the fourth with an RBI triple from Orlando Arcia (1x3, RBI, 3B) to score Nathan Orf (2x4, R) from first to put the Shuckers down a run. A walk to Michael Reed (0x2, 2 BB) put runners on the corners, but back-to-back strikeouts to Nick Ramirez (0x3, BB) and Victor Roache (0x4) ended the threat. Arcia took the team-lead with his fifth triple and 31st extra-base hit of the season. Arcia also leads the league with 95 hits. Wagner (6-3) coasted through the sixth, retiring 14 of 15 batters after the first, but the Biscuits broke the game open with a three-run seventh to make it 5-1. Three consecutive one-out singles led to the first run to cross for Montgomery, leading to Wagner being removed for Jed Bradley (1.2 IP, R, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 SO). The Shuckers' starter tied a season high with seven strikeouts, and allowed four runs - two earned - on six hits and a walk. Bradley allowed another single and issued a walk before a hot-shot by Goeddel got by Orf at second, allowing two runs to score. Snell (6-2), the All-Star Game starter for the North Division worked five innings and picked up the win, striking out six and walking two in the outing. Biloxi will try to force a rubber match with a win on Tuesday night against the Biscuits. Fans can also listen to the game using the TuneIn Radio app or by going to http://www.biloxishuckers.com. Biloxi Box Score Tyler Wagner wasn't lights out, but he still pitched fairly well. The first inning included a bloop hit, an error on Brandon Macias and a balk that was questionable at best. Granted, the video for these games isn't great, but I didn't see anything and Chris made a similar comment on the broadcast. Seven strikeouts versus just one walk is always good to see as well. Nathan Orf had half of Biloxi's hits, going 2-for-4 out of the leadoff spot. Orlando Arcia reached base twice with a walk and a triple and Macias picked up the other Biloxi base hit. Michael Reed drew a pair of walks and stole his 23rd base of the year. Josh Fellhauer recorded not one, but two outfield assists. Ramirez added his fourth RBI of the game in the seventh to score Reed from first to push the Shuckers' lead to 4-0. Taylor Green (1x3, R, BB) followed with a hit-by-pitch to put two on with one out for Roache, who connected for his second Double-A home run to give Biloxi a 7-2 lead. Brent Suter allowed two runs in 5.1 innings on seven hits, walked two and struck out five in the no decision. Mike Strong (4-1) worked a clean eighth to pick up his fourth win of the season, while Damien Magnifico (SV, 10) allowed a leadoff single to begin the ninth, but left the runner stranded for his tenth save of the year.
