Final: Brevard County 1, Dunedin 4 Brevard shut down in 4-1 loss to Jays By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees DUNEDIN, Fla. - Dunedin Blue Jays starter Ben White was close to unhittable on Friday night at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. The right-hander carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning and eventually pitched his team to a 4-1 win over the Brevard County Manatees, 4-1. White (6-6, 4.90 ERA) could not complete the no-hitter, as Greg Hopkins lined a double down the left field line to lead off the sixth inning, but the D-Jays' starting pitcher was still stellar over seven frames. The righty allowed just one run on two hits, hit one batter and struck out five to pick up the win. Dunedin (27-27 second half, 73-50 overall) took a few innings to give White run support, but the Blue Jays eventually put a run on the board in the bottom of the third. Shane Opitz led off the inning with a single against Manatees starter Chad Pierce. After Pierce got the next two men to pop out, Nick Baligod singled to put runners on the corners for Dwight Smith, Jr. With a chance to plate the first run of the ballgame, Smith chopped a ground ball toward the mound and Pierce reached up to try to make the play. The pitcher got a piece of the ball, but it skipped off his glove and settled in the infield grass. Smith reached first safely for an infield single and Opitz scored to give Dunedin a 1-0 lead. The D-Jays tacked on three more runs in the fifth. Peter Mooney singled to start the frame and Opitz followed with triple off the right field wall to push Dunedin's advantage to 2-0. Jorge Saez added to the lead with an RBI single and after a double play cleared the bases, Baligod launched a solo home run to right field to make the Jays' lead, 4-0. Brevard County (25-27, 61-57) scored its only run in White's final inning of work, the top of the seventh. Tyrone Taylor began the inning with a bloop single that fell in front of Jays right fielder Marcus Knecht, who appeared to lose the ball in the lights. Michael Reed was hit by a pitch immediately after, but White rolled a 6-4-3 double play for the first two outs and Taylor moved up to third. With Mike Garza hitting, White skipped a wild pitch to the backstop, which allowed Taylor to score and cut the Manatees' deficit to 4-1. Pierce (3-8, 4.63 ERA) took the loss for Brevard County. The righty went five innings and allowed four runs on seven hits. Pierce walked two and struck out two. Both teams' bullpens put up zeros the rest of the way. Dunedin right-hander Danny Barnes pitched a perfect eighth inning and bridged the gap to Jays closer Arik Sikula. The Florida State League-leader in saves pitched a one-two-three ninth to complete his 30th save of the season. Manatees relievers Trevor Seidenberger and Tyler Spurlin were also perfect over three innings. Seidenberger set the D-Jays down in order in the sixth and seventh innings. The left-hander struck out a pair in his strongest relief outing with Brevard County. Spurlin then worked a perfect eighth inning with two groundouts and a strikeout. The Manatees and Blue Jays face off again on Saturday night in Dunedin. First pitch at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Jorge Lopez (8-8, 3.94 ERA) is slated to start for Brevard against Roberto Osuna (0-1, 8.64 ERA). Brevard County Box Score Chad Pierce made the spot start for Brevard as Damien Magnifico was shut down for the season after reaching his innings limit. Pierce went five innings, allowing all four runs and was tagged with the loss. Trevor Seidenberger and Tyler Spurlin combined to work the final three innings without giving up a run. Greg Hopkins doubled and Tyrone Taylor singled and scored the only Manatees run. Brevard County Play-By-Play The 'Tees only run came courtesy of a wild pitch Brevard County Top of the 7th Tyrone Taylor singles on a fly ball to right fielder Marcus Knecht. Final: Daytona 6, Brevard County 2 (Game One) Daytona's four-run first dooms 'Tees By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees Viera, FL - The Brevard County Manatees fell behind early and could not rally back, as they lost to the Daytona Cubs in game one of Thursday's doubleheader at Space Coast Stadium, 6-2. Daytona (30-20 second half, 56-62 overall) rallied for four runs in the first against Manatees starter Hobbs Johnson. Jacob Hanneman led off the game with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. After a pair of walks to Dan Vogelbach and Rock Shoulders loaded the bases, Billy McKinney cleared the bags with a three-run double. Ben Carhart wasted no time in driving in a run of his own, as he ripped an RBI single to score McKinney and give Daytona a 4-0 lead. McKinney helped the Cubs tack on another run in the top of the third. With one out, Shoulders drilled a line drive to left-center field and raced to third for a triple. McKinney came up next and lifted a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Shoulders to push Daytona's advantage to 5-0. Brevard County (24-26, 60-56) began to chip away at its deficit in the bottom of the third. Brandon Macias slammed a one-out double and scored the Manatees' first run on an RBI single by Nathan Orf. After Orlando Arcia worked a walk, Tyrone Taylor singled up the middle to score Orf and trim the Cubs' lead to 5-2. The Cubs added another run on a wild pitch in the fourth. After Johnson loaded the bases with one out on a single and two walks, Martin Viramontes came in from the bullpen and threw a pitch that skipped past catcher Cameron Garfield. Gioskar Amaya scored from third to add to Daytona's lead and make the score, 6-2. Johnson (11-8, 3.21 ERA) took his first loss in four starts. The left-hander was charged with all six Cubs runs over 3.1 innings of work. He allowed seven hits, walked four and struck out a pair. Cubs starter Jose Rosario earned the win. Rosario (5-7. 5.50 ERA) pitched five innings and allowed two runs on five hits. The righty walked two and struck out three. Viramontes did not factor in the decision, but he pitched well in relief for Brevard County. He pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, in which he did not allow a hit. Viramontes struck out a season-high six men and walked two. Brevard County Box Score Brevard County Play-By-Play Final: Daytona 1, Brevard County 2 (Game Two) Strong spins first complete game in 2-1 win By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Mike Strong lifted the Brevard County Manatees to victory with his first career complete game in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader, as the 'Tees defeated the Daytona Cubs, 2-1 at Space Coast Stadium. Strong (2-1, 2.33 ERA) allowed just one run on four hits over seven innings. The southpaw fell one strikeout short of a season-high with eight and walked just one man. Strong's victory was his first as a starter in four attempts this season. The Manatees' starting pitcher was particularly solid from the second inning until the final out. After an RBI single by Bijan Rademacher gave the Cubs a 1-0 lead with one out in the second, Strong rattled off a streak of 5.2 hitless innings that ended when he struck out Wes Darvill for the final out of the game. Brevard County (25-26 second half, 61-56 overall) gave Strong all of the run support he needed in the bottom of the third with a little bit of timely hitting and a little bit of good fortune. With the 'Tees trailing by one run, Garrett Cooper reached first on a throwing error by shortstop Marco Hernandez and Greg Hopkins singled to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Jose Sermo sacrifice bunted the runners into scoring position and Nathan Orf came to the dish with a chance to put the Manatees ahead with one swing. Daytona (30-21, 56-63) pulled the infield in and Orf hit a ground ball to shortstop. Hernandez tried to throw home, but the ball sailed past catcher Wilson Contreras and Cooper scored to tie the game. After Cooper scored, the play was not over. Orf took a wide turn around first base and Contreras saw a chance to catch the runner in a pickle between first and second. Contreras picked up the ball and threw to Wes Darvill, but the second baseman fumbled the throw. Hopkins, who had moved up to third base while all of this was going on, sprinted home and scored on Darvill's error. By the time the dust settled, the Manatees had claimed a 2-1 lead. Once the 'Tees pulled ahead, Strong took care of the rest. The left-hander's victory meant Justin Amlung was saddled with the loss. Amlung (3-4, 4.89 ERA) allowed both Brevard County runs, but both were unearned because of the errors by the Cubs' middle infield. The right-hander surrendered seven hits, walked one and struck out three. The Manatees and Cubs split the doubleheader in the final meeting between the I-95 rivals. Brevard County finished the season with a 12-8 record against Daytona. The 'Tees will hit the road for a three-game series at the Dunedin Blue Jays on Friday. First pitch of the series opener is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. Damien Magnifico (8-6, 3.74 ERA) is scheduled to start for Brevard County against Ben White (5-6, 5.13 ERA). Brevard County Box Score Brevard County Play-By-Play

Final: Huntsville 5, Tennessee 2 Stars Share Second Half Lead With Win Kodak, TN-The Huntsville Stars continued their winning ways on the ten game road trip with a series opening 5-2 win Tuesday night over the Tennessee Smokies at Smokies Park. With the win, the Stars are now tied with Tennessee for first place in the second half of the Southern League north standings with nineteen games to play. Huntsville received an outstanding start from righty Drew Gagnon (9-6). The only two runs he allowed came in the fourth inning. Christian Villanueva lined a two-run double down the left field line giving the Smokies a 2-0 lead. Gagnon, who earned the win went seven innings and allowed six hits. He struck out four. The Stars took the lead for good against Tennessee RHP Felix Pena in the top of the fifth. Yadiel Rivera led off with a homerun, his second of the season. It was also Rivera's second straight game with a homer. Nick Ramirez tied the game with an rbi single. The next batter was Hector Gimenez and he gave the Stars the lead on his rbi single. Pena(1-2), who took the loss went 4.1 innings and allowed four hits on three runs. Nick Shaw padded the Stars lead with a two-run single in the sixth to give the Stars a 5-2 advantage. David Goforth nailed down his twenty fourth save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning. The Stars(25-26, 71-50) lead the Smokies(25-26, 58-62) 1-0 in their series as it continues Wednesday night. The Stars will feature RHP Jacob Barnes(2-5, 4.36) on the mound. Tennessee will have RHP Corey Black(5-7, 3.18) on the hill. The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 6:00 CDT on 92.9 FM, 1450 AM and wtkiradio.com Huntsville Box Score Really nice to see Yadiel Rivera's bat progress since his promotion to AA. Kind of makes me wonder how much it would help guys like Roache and Garfield to get out of Brevard and really gets me excited for Arcia and Taylor. I'm not sure what to make of Nick Shaw. He doesn't stand out in any area except his ability to take a walk and get on base, but he does that so well (on base percentage near .400) and his ability to play multiple positions could make him a darkhorse utility guy down the road. Drew Gagnon has had a couple of rough outings recently but pitched well in this one, giving up just the two runs. Nice to see him work deep in the game. David Goforth with a 1-2-3 ninth. Huntsville Play-By-Play Rivera led off the fifth with a home run, but walking the pitcher always spells trouble and the Stars cashed in with a couple more as well Huntsville Top of the 5th Yadiel Rivera homers (2) on a fly ball to left center field. Final: Brevard County 5, Daytona 1 (Game One) Roache, Wagner power 'Tees to 5-1 victory over Cubs Tyler Wagner goes six innings to tie league-lead in wins with 12 By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Behind a strong start from Tyler Wagner and a mammoth blast by Victor Roache, the Brevard County Manatees defeated the Daytona Cubs, 5-1 in game one of Tuesday's doubleheader at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. After losing his first decision since June 3 in his previous outing, Wagner (12-5, 1.68) came out and befuddled the Cubs' (28-20 second half, 54-62 overall) bats. The Florida State League Player of the Month for July yielded just one unearned run on five hits over six frames. Wagner walked three and punched out seven en route to tying Bradenton's Chad Kuhl for the league-lead in wins with 12. With tonight's outing, Wagner is now 4-0 in five starts against the Cubs. In 28 innings against Daytona, the FSL All-Star has surrendered just two earned runs, which is good for a superb 0.64 earned run average. The Manatees' (24-24, 60-54) offense was vibrant behind Wagner, exploding for all five of their runs in the top of the fourth inning. Trailing 1-0, Cameron Garfield started it all with a bloop single to center field. With Roache at the dish, Cubs starter Juan Paniagua (1-3, 6.00) quickly fell behind, 3-0. After being given the green light, Roache took a big hack at the next pitch. The former first-round pick put the ball into orbit and hammered it over the batting cages beyond left field fence. Apparently, the ball finished its flight by one-hopping into the Halifax River located beyond the cages. The colossal shot was Roache's team-leading 15th home run of the year and it put Brevard in front, 2-1. However, the rally was not over. Mike Garza followed the homer with a single to left and advanced to second on a ground out. On the first pitch, Brandon Macias smoked a line drive into right field. Rock Shoulders, who normally serves as the Cubs designated hitter or first baseman, misread the ball and initially came in before realizing he needed to go back. By the time that happened, it was too late. Macias' ball flew over his head and banged up against the wall. Garza came home to score on the RBI double and the 'Tees now lead, 3-1. Nathan Orf then advanced Macias to third on a ground out to short and Orlando Arcia reached on a walk after a nine-pitch battle with Paniagua. With two away, Tyrone Taylor grounded a ball deep in the hole at short. Wes Darvill, playing in just his fourth game at shortstop with Daytona, made a backhand stop, but threw high to first. Dan Vogelbach leaped off the bag to try and make the play; however his attempt to tag the speedy Taylor came up empty. Macias scored and Arcia moved up to second on the throwing error to extend the advantage to 4-1. That was the final batter Paniagua would face, as left-hander Nathan Dorris come out of the bullpen to try and stop the bleeding. Michael Reed greeted the reliever rudely; as he smacked the first pitch he delivered into center for a base-hit. As Arcia raced for home, Taylor tried to advance to third. Jacob Hannemann's throw came into third base and Taylor was caught heading towards the bag. Thanks to quick thinking, Taylor stayed in the rundown long enough to make sure Arcia scored safely. The 'Tees center fielder was ultimately tagged out, but Brevard County now cushioned its lead to 5-1. That was the final run Paniagua would be charged with. The Dominican Republic native took his third loss in four starts with the Cubs. Paniagua lasted just 3.2 innings and surrendered five runs - three earned - on seven hits, three walks and three strikeouts. With Brevard County still in front 5-1 in the seventh, Stephen Peterson came on to close out the victory. Despite allowing a two-out single to Gioskar Amaya, it took the left-hander just nine pitches to seal the win. In the triumph, Brevard County claimed the I-95 Trophy for the first time since its inception back in 2007. The hardware is awarded to the winner of the season series between the Manatees and Cubs. Brevard County Box Score Brevard County Play-By-Play Brevard County 2, Daytona 3 (Game Two) 'Tees fall short in 3-2 walk-off loss to Cubs Michael Reed clubs his fifth home run of the season in defeat By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees dropped game two of Tuesday's doubleheader, as the Daytona Cubs walked-off with a 3-2 victory at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. With the game deadlocked at two heading to the bottom of the seventh, Chadd Krist started the final frame for Daytona (29-20 second half, 55-62 overall) with a four-pitch walk. On the next pitch, Bijan Rademacher laced a single into right field. Krist held up at second and all of a sudden the Cubs had the winning run in scoring position with nobody out. Brevard County (24-25, 60-55) brought the corners in expecting a bunt from Gioskar Amaya and that is exactly what they got. After popping up a bunt earlier in the game, Amaya laid a perfect sacrifice down the third base line. However, third baseman Brandon Macias and pitcher Taylor Williams (0-1, 2.25 ERA) had a miscommunication on who was supposed to be where. Williams fielded the ball and turned to third base to get the force, but with Macias charging in, no one was there. The 'Tees starter then turned and threw to first to try and get Amaya, but the throw was low and got past Mike Garza. Krist was able to motor home from second to give the Cubs the walk-off victory, 3-2. It was a sour end to a strong start from the right-hander. Williams, whose first start was cut to only two innings thanks to an hour-long rain delay in Tampa on Wednesday afternoon, took his first loss at the Advanced-A level. The Brewers' fourth-round pick from 2013 yielded all three of Daytona's runs - just two earned - on seven hits over six-plus innings. He walked two and struck out three in defeat. Brevard County initially jumped out in front by tallying a run in the third and fourth innings. Cubs starter Tayler Scott (7-8, 4.31) retired the first seven batters he faced before issuing a one-out walk to Greg Hopkins. With Brandon Macias at the plate, Hopkins broke for second base. The catcher Krist's throw was late and the 'Tees now had the go-ahead run in scoring position. Later in the at-bat, Macias poked a ball down the right field line. Hopkins scored easily and Macias chugged into second with an RBI double to give the Manatees the lead, 1-0. In the fourth, it was Michael Reed who created the offense. After taking what he thought was ball four for a strike, the right-hander swinger slammed a ball to deep left field. Kyle Schwarber chased it back to the wall, but Reed's shot carried over the fence for a home run. The solo blast was Reed's career-high fifth home run of the season and it gave Brevard a two-run advantage. Daytona rallied back to tie with by scoring in the fifth and sixth innings. After Billy McKinney started the frame with a double off the wall in right, Chadd Krist slapped a ball into left for an RBI single to trim the lead to 2-1. The Cubs had a chance to tie and take the lead in that very inning, but Williams buckled down. After making a throwing error on a fielder's choice and a uncorking a wild pitch to put runners at second and third, Williams struck out Marco Hernandez looking to keep Brevard in front. However, the Cubs were still able to tie it up in the following inning. With runners at the corners thanks to back-to-back singles by Schwarber and Dan Vogelbach, Wes Darvill lofted a fly ball to center field. With the Manatees outfielders playing in to cut off any bloop hits, Darvill was able to make Tyrone Taylor tail back on the fly ball. The ball was deep enough, as Schwarber scored easily on the sacrifice fly to knot the game at two. Scott did not factor into the decision for the Cubs, but was integral in keeping them in the game. The South Africa native allowed both of Brevard's runs on five hits over six frames. He walked two and struck out five. Yao-Lin Wang, who was activated off the disabled list between games, recorded the win for the Cubs after tossing a spotless top of the seventh. Following the off day tomorrow, Brevard County and Daytona will battle in another doubleheader, this time at Space Coast Stadium. First pitch of game one is slated for 5:05 p.m. with game two scheduled to begin a half-hour after the first game's completion. The Manatees are slated to throw a duo of left-handed pitchers to face a lefty-laden Cubs lineup. Hobbs Johnson (11-7, 2.86) will go in game one against Daytona's right-hander Jose Rosario (4-7, 5.60). In game two, Mike Strong (1-1, 2.45), who was perfect through 5.1 innings in his last outing, will make the spot start against another righty in Justin Amlung (3-3, 5.24). Final: Clearwater 2, Brevard County 1 Lopez strikes out eight in 2-1 loss By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/2/4/81823224/cuts/Lopez_6.26_2_640x360_2obwm3zc_2xnu8h2l.jpg Manatees starting pitcher Jorge Lopez tied a season-high with eight strikeouts, but Brevard County lost to the Clearwater Threshers on Monday night at Space Coast Stadium, 2-1. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - Jorge Lopez turned in another stellar outing with a season-high-tying eight strikeouts, but the Brevard County Manatees lost to the Clearwater Threshers on Monday night at Space Coast Stadium, 2-1. Lopez (8-8, 3.94 ERA) only allowed a pair of runs, but both scored early. Anthony Phillips put the first run on the scoreboard in the first inning. The second batter of the game drove his second home run of the year, a solo shot over the left field wall to give Clearwater (22-29 second half, 39-80) a 1-0 lead. One inning later, the Threshers supplemented their lead with a big hit by Brandon Short. Harold Martinez started the rally with a one-out single and Short drove him home with a line drive double down the left field line to put Clearwater ahead, 2-0. Lopez settled down and did not give up a run the rest of the night, but took the loss for the fifth time in six starts. The right-hander went seven innings and surrendered both of Clearwater's runs on eight hits. Lopez went the whole start without walking a batter for the fifth time this season. Brevard County (23-24, 59-55) struggled to score against Clearwater starter Jesse Biddle. The 'Tees manufactured one run against the left-hander in the third inning. Orlando Arcia and Michael Reed both walked to put runners on first and second with one out. The pair pulled off a successful double steal to move into scoring position and Cameron Garfield drove Arcia home with an RBI ground out to second base. Biddle picked up his second victory in as many Florida State League starts with one run allowed over five innings and tallied four strikeouts. The Clearwater southpaw only allowed three hits, but walked five men in the winning effort. Brevard threatened to tie the score twice in the latter innings of the ballgame. In the eighth, the 'Tees put a pair of men on with two walks against lefty reliever Cody Forsythe. The chance ended, however, when right-hander Ulises Joaquin came out of the bullpen and induced an inning-ending groundout. The following inning, Victor Roache ripped a leadoff single through the left side of the infield. Mike Garza dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move Roache up to second and the 'Tees had the potential tying run in scoring position. Clearwater caught a break, though, as a line drive turned into a game-ending double play. Garrett Cooper hit a liner at second baseman Anthony Phillips, but Roache had ranged too far off of second base. After Phillips made the catch, he tossed the ball to J.P. Crawford who stepped on the bag to end the ballgame. Joaquin earned his fifth save by recording the final four outs of the ballgame. Brevard County took two out of three games from the Threshers and will hit the road for a doubleheader at the Daytona Cubs on Tuesday night. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Taylor Williams (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make his second start as a Manatee in game one against Daytona right-hander Tayler Scott (7-8, 4.38 ERA). Final: Clearwater 0, Brevard County 1 (Game One) Johnson two-hits Clearwater, as 'Tees win 1-0 Hobbs Johnson tosses his first career complete game in two-hit shutout By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Brevard County Manatees starter Hobbs Johnson carried a no-hitter into the sixth and finished the evening with a two-hit shutout in a 1-0 victory over the Clearwater Threshers in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Space Coast Stadium. After rain delayed the start of the game by an hour and 42 minutes, Johnson (11-7, 2.86 ERA) struggled with his control early. He walked three batters in the first three innings; however, thanks to a pickoff and a double play ball he only faced one over the minimum. Brevard's (22-23 second half, 58-53 overall) southpaw then went on a tear. After a leadoff walk in the third, Johnson retired 10 in-a-row before he yielded his first hit of the game. With one out in the top of the sixth, Johnson left a pitch over the plate and Anthony Phillips slapped it into center field for a base-hit. Coincidentally, the first hit Johnson allowed came at the same point of the game Mike Strong surrendered his first hit when he carried a perfect game into the sixth in game two of a doubleheader on Wednesday night in Tampa. Johnson's complete game shutout was also the first thrown by a Manatee pitcher since Damien Magnifico - Saturday's game two starter - tossed a nine-inning, complete game, two-hit shutout in Jupiter on May 19. The Threshers (21-28, 38-79) would tally a second hit - a two out single by Brian Pointer in the seventh - but that was all. Johnson induced the next hitter - Harold Martinez - to ground into a game ending fielder's choice to short to complete his first career complete game. A 14th round draft pick out of North Carolina a year ago, Johnson finished his complete game with two hits and three walks allowed while striking out five. In the process, Johnson tied teammate Tyler Wagner and Bradenton's Chad Kuhl for the most wins in the Florida State League with 11. Brevard pushed across the only run they would need against Clearwater starter Colin Kleven (5-9, 4.48) in the bottom of the third. Garrett Cooper started the frame with a bizarre double. On the first pitch of the inning, he popped a ball up into shallow right field. Second baseman Angelo Mora went out, while right fielder Brian Pointer came in. Neither took charge and stared at each other, as the ball plopped in between them. Cooper hustled all the way and ended up at second base. The next batter - Brandon Macias - followed with a single to left, but ran into trouble on the base paths. With the throw in from Brandon Short headed towards the plate, Macias broke for second. First baseman Art Charles cut off the ball and threw on to second base to put the former Kansas Jayhawk in a run down. Macias was tagged out heading back to first base for the first out of the inning. Nathan Orf then came through with the biggest hit of game one. On a 1-2 pitch, the Manatees' lead-off hitter smacked a single into right field. Cooper came across to score to give Brevard the lead, 1-0. That was the only run Kleven would allow. The Clearwater righty would toss a complete game of his own, as he yielded five hits, walked three and struck out six over six innings. Of the five hits allowed Kleven, two were for extra bases. Besides Cooper's third inning double, Tyrone Taylor clocked his FSL-best 36th double of the year in the sixth inning. Brevard County Box Score Brevard County Play-By-Play Final: Clearwater 0, Brevard County 7 (Game Two) Magnifico blanks Threshers in 'Tees 7-0 victory Damien Magnifico records five-hit shutout in doubleheader sweep By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Not to be outdone, Brevard County Manatees starter Damien Magnifico followed up Hobbs Johnson's complete game shutout with one of his own in a 7-0 victory over the Clearwater Threshers in game two of Saturday's doubleheader. Magnifico (8-6, 3.74 ERA) dominated, as he recorded his second complete game shutout of the season. The first came on May 19 in a 1-0 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Stadium. Brevard's (23-23 second half, 59-53 overall) right-hander was not as sharp as his counterpart, Johnson, but was equally as effective. Magnifico allowed five hits, but tied a career-high with seven punch outs. The Texas native also walked three in the shutout. Unlike Johnson, Magnifico had a big lead to work with, as Brevard County's offense scored in each of the first four innings. The rally started right away. Nathan Orf was hit by a pitch and Orlando Arcia singled to left to start the bottom of the first, which put instant pressure on the Threshers (21-29, 38-80) starter Nic Hanson (0-2, 12.00). After an out was recorded, Michael Reed singled to right to drive home Orf and give the Manatees the early lead, 1-0. The former fifth-round picked was the catalyst for the second run too. When Reed broke to steal second base, Arcia sprinted towards home. Reed was tagged out, but the double was a success. Arcia scored without a throw and the 'Tees led, 2-0. In the second, Orf came through again. After Mike Garza's lead-off single was erased on a double play, Greg Hopkins walked and Jose Sermo singled. On a 1-0 pitch, Orf sliced a ball into right-center field. With both runners going on contact, Hopkins and Sermo were able to race around and score to push the Manatees advantage to 4-0. For the rest of the game, Brevard County's offense came from Victor Roache. Against Threshers reliever Lino Martinez in the third, Roache demolished a ball to deep left field. The ball caromed off an umbrella out on the berm for a solo home run. The blast was Roache's team-leading 14th home run of the year to give the Manatees a five-run cushion. Milwaukee's first-round pick in 2012 brought home two more runs in the fourth. With the bases loaded and the count full, Roache fought off a pitch into shallow right field. The power-hitting left fielder was able to dunk the ball in over the head of the second baseman Anthony Phillips. Two runs came across to score and Brevard was in front, 7-0. With another base-knock in the sixth, Roache led the 'Tees with three hits, which tied a season-high. He also finished the evening with three RBI, one shy of another season-high. Hanson took the loss for Clearwater in his second start with the Advanced-A club. The right-hander allowed four of the seven runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out one in defeat. Thanks to the doubleheader sweep, Brevard is now four games back of Daytona for first place in the Florida State League North Division. The Manatees are also just one game back of Tampa for second. Brevard County will go for the series victory over Clearwater tomorrow with first pitch at Space Coast Stadium scheduled for 5:05 p.m. Jorge Lopez (8-7, 4.03) will get the start for the Manatees. Fellow right-hander Miguel Nunez (5-7, 4.26) gets the call for the Threshers. Brevard County Box Score Brevard County Play-By-Play

Final: Brevard County 4, Tampa 6 No game story from the Manatees on Thursday, but here is the story from Tampa's side. Clarkin Wins Debut as T-Yanks Hold On in 6-4 Victory By Nick Flammia / Tampa Yankees TAMPA, Fla. - Behind a solid high-A debut by 19-year-old Ian Clarkin, the Tampa Yankees (24-23) defeated the Brevard County Manatees (21-23) 6-4 on Thursday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field. The win gives Tampa a series victory, taking three of the four games. Clarkin (1-0) allowed just one run in five innings of work. The southpaw scattered seven hits and one walk, striking out four in his first start with the Tampa Yankees. The Yankees drafted Clarkin in the first round (33rd overall) in 2013. Angelo Gumbs led the offense for Tampa, driving in four runs while providing two home runs in a 2-for-3 night. The Yankees opened the scoring off RHP Tyler Wagner in the second. Matt Snyder hit a ground-rule double to left-center field and later scored on a two-run home run by Gumbs off the scoreboard in left field. Tampa added to its lead in the fourth as Aaron Judge drew a leadoff walk and scored on an ensuing double to the corner in left field by Snyder. A wild pitch by Wagner sent Snyder to third and Gumbs delivered an RBI sacrifice fly, giving the Yankees a 4-0 lead. The Manatees put a run on the board in the fifth against Clarkin. Back-to-back singles started the inning before Brandon Macias hit into a 5-4-3 DOUBLE PLAY. A two-out single by Nathan Orf drove in the run, making it 4-1. Wagner (11-5) allowed four runs on six hits in five innings for Brevard County and suffered his first loss since June 3rd. The righty walked two and struck out six. It was only the second time all season Wagner had allowed more than three runs. The T-Yanks added two more runs off Brevard County relievers in the seventh and eighth. Mark Payton hit a leadoff double and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Cito Culver. One out later, Judge lined a run-scoring single into right field. Gumbs led off the eight with a laser beam home run over the wall in left field, giving Tampa a 6-1 lead. The two late runs proved to be crucial as the Manatees surged back in the ninth. With RHP Brady Lail on the mound, Brevard County loaded the bases with one out. Orf worked an RBI walk and Tampa brought in RHP Alex Smith. Orlando Arcia greeted Smith with a double to left-center, scoring two more runs. An infield single by Tyrone Taylor loaded the bases once again. With the tying runs in scoring position, Smith struck out Michael Reed and Victor Roache to end the game and earn his fifth save of the year. Snyder went 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored. Payton doubled twice, going 2-for-5 with a run scored. Trent Garrison picked up three singles, going 3-for-4. Brevard County Box Score Tyler Wagner started and took the loss after giving up four runs in five innings. Nathan Orf reached base in all five plate appearances, collecting three hits and two walks. Final: Brevard County 6, Tampa 5 (Game One) Five-run second gives 'Tees edge in 6-5 win over Tampa Manatees' fight off late surge by Yankees to snap three-game losing streak By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees TAMPA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees tallied all the runs they needed in the first two innings, as they knocked off the Tampa Yankees, 6-5 in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader at George M. Steinbrenner Field. After grabbing the lead in the first on a two-base error and an RBI groundout by Tyrone Taylor, the Manatees (21-21 second half, 57-51 overall) exploded against Tampa starter Miguel Sulbaran (2-3, 3.05 ERA) in the second. With one out, Parker Berberet kick started the onslaught with a ground-rule double that ended up in the Yankees' (22-23, 55-60) bullpen down the right field line. His extra-base hit started a series of three straight doubles by Manatees' hitters. Garrett Cooper roped a run-scoring double to center, while Brandon Macias followed by doing the same to left-center. Two runs were able to come across to give the Manatees a 3-0 edge. However, the rally was not over. Nathan Orf poked a single into center field to chase home Macias and extend the lead to four. After a fly out and an infield single by Taylor, the Manatees got some help courtesy of the Yankees' defense. After a passed ball advanced both runners to second and third, Michael Reed hit a ground ball to short that should have ended the inning. However, Cito Culver's throw was low and first baseman Matt Snyder could not pick it. Orf and Taylor, who hustled all the way, came home to score on the throwing error by Culver. That was one of four defensive miscues made by Tampa in the first three frames and the 'Tees had a 6-0 lead. With the score still 6-0, the rain, which was not on the radar, began to fall heavily. With a runner at first, two outs and a 0-2 count on Macias, the umpiring crew called for the tarp to be placed on the field. The game was delayed for 54 minutes due to the inclement weather and caused both starters to be removed early. Sulbaran, who took his third loss of the year, went just 2.2 innings and allowed six runs - three earned - for the third consecutive outing. He yielded five hits and struck out one without walking a batter. The rain put a big damper on Taylor Williams' (0-0, 0.00) Florida State League debut. After being transferred from Class-A Wisconsin a day prior, the right-hander was stellar in his two innings of work. Williams did not allow a single baserunner and struck out three in his rain-shortened outing. Stephen Peterson came out of the bullpen after the delay and gave the Manatees some much needed length. The left-hander threw three straight scoreless frames before the Yankees' bats came alive in the sixth. With one out and a runner on first, Peterson left a pitch over the plate to Culver. The former first-round pick did not miss it, as he crushed the ball over the left field wall and off an advertisement to the left of the jumbotron for a two-run home run. The blast was Culver's third of the year and it trimmed the 'Tees lead to 5-2. In the seventh, Tampa threatened again. Peterson, now into his fifth inning of work, allowed a lead-off single and then a two-out walk, which ended his night. After making his Manatees debut on Monday night, Tyler Spurlin came on to try and close out the game. On a full count, Anderson Feliz cranked a ball over the wall in right-center for a three-run homer. The shot was his second of the season and all of a sudden the Manatees' lead was down to one. Spurlin would bend, but not break, as he struck out the next batter - Mark Payton - to end the ball game. Despite only recording one out, the side-arming right-hander recorded his first save in the FSL. Even though he allowed four runs, Peterson was a savior for the Manatees bullpen. The left-hander set a career-high in innings pitched - 4.2 - and strikeouts - six - in his third victory of the season. With the win, the 'Tees snapped a three-game losing streak and pulled a half-game ahead of Tampa for second place in the FSL North Division. Brevard County Box Score Brevard County Play-By-Play Final: Brevard County 2, Tampa 3 (Game Two/8 Innings) 'Tees walked-off again in 3-2 loss to Yankees Mike Strong dominates over six innings in no-decision By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees TAMPA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees late-inning lead, but could not emerge victorious, as Aaron Judge hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the eighth in the Tampa Yankees' 3-2 win in game two of Wednesday's doubleheader at George M. Steinbrenner Field. With the game knotted up at two, Tampa (23-23 second half, 56-60 overall) loaded the bases on a walk, hit-by-pitch and an intentional walk to bring up the power-hitting Judge. Joe Ayrault then called on left fielder Jose Sermo to serve as a fifth infielder to try and cut off the run at the plate. With Sermo now at third and Greg Hopkins, who was playing third base, stationed up the middle, reliever Chad Pierce jumped ahead of Judge, 0-2. Despite being behind in the count, Judge was able to sneak the next pitch past a diving Sermo into left field. Danny Oh came across to score the winning to give the Yankees the victory, 3-2. The extra-inning, walk-off loss overshadowed a tremendous night by left-hander Mike Strong. Making just his third start of the season, the Brevard County (21-22, 57-52) left-hander carried a perfect game until one out in the bottom of the sixth. After retiring the first 16 he faced and the Manatees in front 2-0, Kyle Higashioka ripped a ground ball to third. Hopkins tried to make a backhand play, but the ball trickled off the tip of his mitt. Higashioka was safe at first and tying run was now at the plate. As the no-hit bid vanished, things got worse for Brevard. The following hitter - Oh - hit a slow roller to the first base side. Both Strong and first baseman Mike Garza converged on the ball, but neither could decide who was to take charge. By the time the ball was fielded, no one was covering first and everyone was safe. The tying runs were now on board for Jose Rosario. After getting ahead in the count 2-0, Rosario made Strong pay by hammering a ball to deep left-center field. The ball bounced off the wall and both Higashioka and Oh came home to tie the game up at two. Strong would strand the go-ahead run in scoring position to end his evening and keep the game tied. Making a spot start, the Oklahoma State product was phenomenal. In a season-high six innings, Strong also tallied a season-best nine strikeouts. The lefty allowed just those two runs on three hits in a no-decision. Brevard County had jumped out in front with a run in the third and another run in the fifth. In the third, Nathan Orf laced a two-out triple to right-center field. On the next pitch, Orlando Arcia lined a base-hit into right. Orf scored to give the 'Tees the lead, 1-0. Two innings later, Garza singled and advanced to second on a stolen base. Hopkins then flipped a ball into center field for a single. Garza raced around to score to increase the Brevard advantage to 2-0. Tampa's spot starter Taylor Garrison (0-0, 2.25) left in line for the loss, but did not factor into the decision. The right-hander went only three innings and allowed just one run on two hits. Garrison did not allow a hit the first time through the lineup, allowing just one walk. The Fresno State product also struck out six in the effort. Cesar Vargas picked up his third win of the year in relief. The right-hander allowed just one hit - a lead-off single to Cameron Garfield - in the seventh. After Alfredo Rodriguez came in to pinch-run, Vargas stranded him at second with three straight strikeouts to end the frame. Pierce was saddled with the loss, his seventh of the season, which ties him for the team-lead. With Judge's game-winner, the Wisconsin native has now surrendered four walk-off hits on the year. The Manatees will send ace Tyler Wagner (11-4, 1.54) to the mound tomorrow night to try and earn a series split. First pitch at George M. Steinbrenner Field is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tampa will counter with the Yankees' second first round pick from 2013 - Ian Clarkin (0-0, -.-- ERA) - who will make his Florida State League debut. Final: Brevard County 2, Tampa 5 'Tees eight hits not enough in 5-2 loss to Tampa Orlando Arcia and Victor Roache each tally two hits in defeat By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees TAMPA, Fla. - Orlando Arcia and Victor Roache each tallied two hits, but the Brevard County Manatees came up short in a 5-2 loss to the Tampa Yankees on Tuesday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field. Both Arcia and Roache played an integral role in each of the two Manatees' (20-21 second half, 56-51 overall) runs. Arcia went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two stolen bases, while Roache did the same, with a triple and a run scored. However, with the game tied at two, it was Eric Jagielo's colossal blast in the bottom of the eighth that put the Yankees (22-22, 54-59) over the top. After setting down the side in order in the seventh, reliever Martin Viramontes came back out to work the eighth. With one out, Viramontes walked Cito Culver on five pitches to bring up Jagielo. On a 1-0 pitch, Jagielo sat dead red and slammed a fastball into deep right-center field. Tyrone Taylor and Michael Reed chased it to the wall, but ran out of room. Jagielo's 13th home run of the year put the Yankees in front for good, 4-2. This came after Brevard County rallied in the top of the seventh to tie the game. Roache got it all started when he crushed a ball into deep left-center field. With the wind at a standstill, the ball died at the warning track and bounced off the wall. Roache hustled all the way and slid in head-first with a lead-off triple. Shortly after Culver robbed Mike Garza of the game-tying hit with a diving play up the middle, Alfredo Rodriguez came through. With the infield still in, the former Maryland Terrapin snuck a ball underneath the diving glove of Dante Bichette, Jr. and into left field. Roache came home to score and tie the game at two. Initially, the lead went back-and-forth over between the bottom of the second and third. Tampa jumped in front thanks to another power-hitter, Aaron Judge. On a payoff pitch from Brevard County starter Jorge Lopez (8-7, 4.03 ERA), the Yankees first round pick from a year ago hammered a ball into deep right-center. Much like Jagielo's blast, the ball carried well over the wall for a home run. The solo jack was Judge's sixth since being called up to the Florida State League and it gave Tampa its first lead, 1-0. The Manatees came right back with a run of their own in the top of the third. Parker Berberet kick started the rally with a single to right. Yankees starter Brett Gerritse (3-6, 4.03) then uncorked a wild pitch, which allowed Berberet to move into scoring position. Following a strike out and ground out, Arcia delivered the game-tying blow. On the first pitch of his plate appearance, Arcia poked a ball past Gerritse and into center field for a base-hit. Berberet motored home from second to tie the game at one. However, the tie game was short lived, as Tampa grabbed the lead right back in the following frame. Reymond Nunez started it all off with a ground ball that snuck over the third base bag and down the line for a lead-off double. Much like in the top of the inning, with two outs, Tampa got the go-ahead knock. Culver poked a single into shallow left field, in front of a charging Roache. Nunez came across to put Tampa back in front, 2-1. Neither starter factored into the decision, despite solid outings. Lopez pieced together his second straight quality start with six innings of two-run baseball. He yielded six hits, walked one and struck out five. His counterpart, Gerritse, left in line for the victory, but his bullpen could not hold the lead for him. The right-hander allowed only one run on five hits over his six frames. Gerritse also walked two and struck out three. Brevard stayed hot on the base paths with another three stolen bases. In their last nine games, Brevard County has stolen 24 bases on 32 attempts for a resounding success rate of 75 percent. Brevard County and Tampa will battle in doubleheader tomorrow at George M. Steinbrenner Field. First pitch of game one is slated for 5 p.m. with game two scheduled to start a half-hour after the first game's completion. Right-hander Taylor Williams (0-0, -.--), who was added to the roster today from Class-A Wisconsin, will make his Manatees debut in game one against Tampa's talented left-hander Miguel Sulbaran (2-2, 2.85). In game two, Brevard will call on lefty Mike Strong (1-1, 2.39) to make a spot start against the Yankees' righty Taylor Garrison (0-0, 2.00). Brevard County Box Score Jorge Lopez started and went six innings, allowing two runs. Martin Viramontes followed and was tagged with the loss after giving up three runs in an inning and a third. Michael Reed singled, doubled and drew two walks. Victor Roache went 2-for-4 with a triple and Orlando Arcia added a single and a double. Brevard County Play-By-Play The Yankees pulled away with a three run eighth Tampa Bottom of the 8th Mark Payton flies out to left fielder Victor Roache. Cito Culver walks. Final: Brevard County 6, Bradenton 9 Long ball bests 'Tees again in 9-6 loss to Marauders Nathan Orf's three hits and runs not enough in defeat By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/7/5/2/80677752/cuts/Orf_6.16_640x360_7vw7dou0_g24jx3p4.jpg Left fielder Nathan Orf, seen here from a game earlier this year, had three hits and scored three runs for the Manatees in their 9-6 loss to the Bradenton Marauders on Monday night at McKechnie Field. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) BRADENTON, Fla. - For the second straight night, the Brevard County Manatees were burned by a late-inning home run. Jordan Steranka's three-run shot in the seventh pushed the Bradenton Marauders to a 9-6 victory at McKechnie Field on Monday night. To start the frame, Walker Gourley attempted to reach on a bunt. Reliever Scott Lieser's throw to first was wild, which allowed Gourley to advance to second. Jose Osuna attempted to sacrifice the runner to third and laid down a bunt to the third base side. Lieser tried to get the lead runner at third, but Gourley slid in safely. Osuna was in at first on the fielder's choice to put runners at the corners. That brought up the clean-up hitter, Steranka. On a 1-2 pitch, the left-handed slugger cranked a ball onto the boardwalk in right-center for a three-run home run. It was Steranka's seventh homer of the year and it gave Bradenton (27-16 second half, 62-50 overall) the lead for good, 9-6. The Manatees (20-20, 56-50) initially held a 6-4 lead going to the bottom of the sixth when right-hander Tyler Spurlin came out of the bullpen to make his Florida State League-debut. His outing started shaky, as Max Moroff lined a double into shallow left to start the frame. Eric Wood then hit a slow roller towards second. Alfredo Rodriguez charged in, but bobbled the ball and had no play to put the tying runners on base. First baseman Mike Garza then made a heads up play on a ground ball hit by Justin Howard. The Georgetown product caught Moroff leaning off third base and threw on to third baseman Brandon Macias. Moroff broke for home, but Macias' throw to catcher Cameron Garfield was in time for out number one. However, both runners were alert. With the focus on the play at the plate, both Wood and Howard advanced to second and third on the throw. One batter later, Macias would rob a hit with spectacular play. Jacob Stallings smoked one down the third base line, but the former Kansas Jayhawk made a tremendous, diving backhand stop. Wood scored easily from third on the throw to first, but there was now two down. The lead did not last much longer, as Justin Maffei came through with the game-tying blow. On a full count, the number nine hitter slapped a ball into right field. Michael Reed came up with a strong throw, but it was up the third base line. Howard scored safely to knot the game up at six. Spurlin's FSL debut lasted only one inning. Making his first appearance since July 18 with Class-A Wisconsin, the righty allowed two unearned runs on two hits. Behind 4-2, Brevard County grabbed the lead when they sent nine to the plate in the top of the fifth. Against Marauders' starter Chad Kuhl (11-5, 3.52), Nathan Orf started the rally with a double to left. With one out, Tyrone Taylor hit a roller to third. Wood backed up to try and make the play, but the ball ate him up. Orf stayed at second and Taylor was safe at first to represent the tying runs. After Reed got plunked, Garfield pushed a run across. The 'Tees backstop lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to bring home Orf and cut the lead to one. On the relay, Marauders first baseman Jose Osuna cut the ball off and tried to catch Taylor, who was trying to tag up to third. His throw was wild and got past Wood. Taylor was safe and Reed advanced to second on the error. The inning would only get more bizarre from there. Following a walk to Victor Roache to load the bases, Garza hit a ground ball to third. Wood fielded and threw a high to first. As Osuna jumped in the air to try and corral the ball, Garza slid head first into first base. The Venezuelan native tried to slap the tag on the diving runner, but had no luck. Garza was in there and Taylor scored to tie the game. That was the end for Kuhl, as Bradenton manager Tom Prince called on right-hander Ryan Hafner out of the bullpen. The reliever struggled with his control, as he allowed two inherited runners to score on a walk and a wild pitch. Kuhl, who entered the game tied with the Tyler Wagner for the league-lead in wins with 11, did not factor into the final decision. The former Delaware Blue Hen walked five Manatees and allowed six runs - only two earned - in his 4.2 innings of work. After allowing four runs in the first two innings, Brevard starter Damien Magnifico (7-6, 3.90) finished the game with a flourish. The right-hander did not allow a hit over his final three frames, just issuing two baserunners on walks. Magnifico left in line for the win, but ended up not factoring into the decision, either. The Texas native yielded four runs - three earned - on five hits over five innings. Brevard finished the night with nine hits. Three players - Orf, Taylor and Rodriguez - recorded multi-hit performances. The active league-leader in batting average, Orf, led the charge with three hits. The Baylor grad also doubled twice and scored three runs. The Manatees will hit the next stop on their eight-game road trip tomorrow, as they travel to Tampa to take on the Yankees (21-22, 54-59). First pitch at George M. Steinbrenner Field is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Jorge Lopez (8-7, 4.09) will get the start for Brevard against Tampa's right-hander Brett Gerritse (3-6, 4.26). Brevard County Box Score Damien Magnifico started and went five innings. Tyler Spurlin worked one inning and allowed two unearned runs. Scott Lieser gave up three runs in an inning and Trevor Seidenberger worked a scoreless eighth. Nathan Orf went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and scored three runs. Final: Brevard County 5, Bradenton 3 Walk-off homer sinks 'Tees in 5-3 loss to Marauders Hobbs Johnson goes seven strong in no-decision By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/3/2/8/74462328/cuts/Johnson_5.5_2_640x360_6k7bk3sw_1cga2kxm.jpg Brevard County starting pitcher Hobbs Johnson went seven innings and allowed one run on six hits in the Manatees' 5-3 loss to the Bradenton Marauders on Sunday afternoon at McKechnie Field. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) BRADENTON, Fla. - Brevard County Manatees starter Hobbs Johnson was stellar over seven, but did not factor into the decision, as a walk-off home run by Justin Howard gave the Bradenton Marauders a 5-3 win on Sunday afternoon at McKechnie Field. Johnson (10-7, 3.03 ERA) left in line for his 11th victory, but it was not meant to be. The left-hander pieced together his second impressive start in a row for the Manatees (20-19 second half, 56-49 overall). Johnson allowed just one run on six hits, walked two and struck out three. After a rocky outing in Fort Myers on July 23, Johnson has allowed just four runs over 15 innings of work. That is good for a quality 2.40 earned run average. However, Brevard County's bullpen could not hold the lead for the former North Carolina Tar Heel. After Brevard tacked on an insurance run in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by Alfredo Rodriguez, right-hander Martin Viramontes emerged from the bullpen with the 'Tees in front, 3-1. The outing started off promising, as Viramontes got Adam Frazier to fly out to center and jumped ahead of the next batter, Walker Gourley, 0-2. After the reliever lost Gourley and walked him, Jose Osuna made him pay by lacing a line drive into the left field corner. Gourley was able to hustle all the way home from first and Osuna chugged into second with an RBI double to cut Bradenton's (26-16, 61-50) deficit to 3-2. Following a strike out of Jordan Steranka for the second out, Eric Wood came through with two strikes. After Wood drew the count even from 0-2, he smacked a single into center. Tyrone Taylor came up firing, but his throw sailed high. Osuna slid in safely to knot the game up at three. Chad Pierce came out of the bullpen in the ninth to try and get the game to extras. With one out, Jin-De Jhang snapped a 0-for-16 streak at the plate with a bloop single into shallow center. The game did not last much longer, as Howard, who entered the game in the eighth as a defensive replacement, crushed the first pitch he saw over the boardwalk in right for a walk-off, two-run home run. Howard's blast was his first since being transferred to Bradenton from Double-A Altoona. It was also the third walk-off hit Pierce has allowed this season. The Manatees may have had a chance to take the lead in the top of the ninth, but a controversial call ending the inning. With two outs, on the first pitch to Michael Reed, the runner at first, Orlando Arcia, broke for second. The throw and tag were in time, but as Arcia slid into the glove of second baseman Max Moroff, the ball squirted out of his mitt. Base umpire Brennan Miller ruled that Arcia was out and Moroff lost the ball while trying to transfer it to his hand. Manatees' manager Joe Ayrault came out to argue, but to no avail. He was tossed from the game for the second time this season and the inning came to an end. Brevard initially grabbed the lead in the fourth. After Reed reached on an error by Bradenton's third baseman, Wood, he swiped second base. With one out, Mike Garza poked a single off the mound and into center field. Reed scored easily from third to give Brevard the advantage, 1-0. In the following inning, the 'Tees struck again. Brevard County loaded the bases on a walk to Nathan Orf and a pair of singles by Taylor and Reed. On a 1-0 pitch, Bradenton starter Shane Carle (1-2, 4.65) drilled Victor Roache in the hip to force home a run. Orf came home to push the Manatees in front, 2-0. Carle did not have great control, but gave the Marauders length. The 10th round pick out of Long Beach State allowed two runs - one earned - on four hits over six innings. He walked two, hit two and struck out four. Brevard was able to run wild on the base paths again. The Manatees were successful four-out-of-five times in the ballgame, the one exception being the Arcia caught stealing in the ninth. In their last seven games, the Manatees are 19-for-24 in stolen base attempts. That equals a 79.2% success rate and an average of 2.71 per game. Brevard County will look earn a split of the four-game series tomorrow night at McKechnie Field with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Damien Magnifico (7-6, 3.90), who struggled in first outing against the Marauders back in June, will get the start for the 'Tees. The man who is tied with Tyler Wagner for the league-lead in wins, Chad Kuhl (11-5, 3.51), will get the start for Bradenton. Brevard County Box Score Hobbs Johnson went seven innings and allowed just one run, but Martin Viramontes gave up two runs in an inning of work and Chad Pierce surrendered two more to take the loss. Michael Reed singled, walked and stole a base while Tyrone Taylor, Victor Roache, Mike Garza, Parker Berberet and Greg Hopkins each singled.
