Final: Daytona 3, Brevard County 4 Delmonico's blast sparks comeback as 'Tees beat Cubs, 4-3 Sixth straight win pulls Manatees one win shy of claiming I-95 Trophy for first time since 2007 By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Despite falling behind 2-0 and 3-1 in the first half of the ballgame, the Brevard County Manatees rallied back to win their season-high sixth straight, 4-3 over the Daytona Cubs on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium. It was a mammoth blast off the bat of Nicky Delmonico that sparked the turn around. Trailing 2-0 with two out in the bottom of the fourth, Delmonico walloped a 1-1 pitch from Cubs starter Justin Amlung (1-2, 5.48 ERA) over the right field wall for a solo home run. It was the lefty swinging third baseman's fourth home run of the year and it trimmed the lead to one. After the Cubs (8-5 second half, 34-46 overall) grabbed that run back in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Dan Vogelbach, the Manatees (10-3, 46-33) bats began to chip away again. Victor Roache led off the bottom of the frame with a walk and Mike Garza followed with a single to center. It looked as if things took a turn for the worst when Alfredo Rodriguez hit a slow tapper towards third base. Jordan Hankins stepped on third to get the force on Roache and then threw across the diamond to try and turn the double play. However, Hankins' throw was wild and it skipped past the first baseman Vogelbach. That allowed Garza to advance to third and Rodriguez to second with one out. Nathan Orf made the Cubs pay as a groundout to short allowed Garza to scamper home and trim the lead back to one. The Brevard bats managed to tie the game an inning later. After Tyrone Taylor led off the frame with an infield single to third, Cubs manager Dave Keller went to the bullpen and brought in right-hander Starling Peralta. Michael Reed greeted the new pitcher rudely, as he cranked a ground-rule double to left-center field to put the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position. After Delmonico struck out, Cameron Garfield came through with a unique sacrifice fly. The 'Tees catcher lofted a high fly ball into shallow right field, but Daytona right fielder Bijan Rademacher did not read the ball well. Second baseman Gioskar Amaya ranged out to make the play, but his momentum took him away from home plate. Noticing that, Taylor broke for home and beat the off balance throw from Amaya to tie the game, 3-3. The Manatees train kept rolling, as Brevard completed the comeback in the seventh. Once again, Brevard got the first two men on thanks to a Garza double and a Rodriguez single. However, a bobble by Zeke DeVoss out in left field allowed Rodriguez to advance to second to force Daytona to move its entire infield in. This loomed large, as on a 1-0 pitch, Orf hit a ground ball to second base. Garza immediately broke for home, but the second baseman Amaya could not field it cleanly. The ball caromed off the infielder's glove and rolled towards second base. Amaya was able to recover and get the out at first, but Garza managed to score and give the Manatees its first and only lead of the night, 4-3. Brevard County's bullpen was stellar as Chad Pierce and Mark Williams slammed the door on any potential comeback. Pierce, who took over for starter Jorge Lopez (8-3, 2.83) at the start of the seventh, scattered three singles and struck out three over two shutout frames en route to his second win of the year. In the ninth, Williams was spotless once again. The right-hander retired the side in order to close out the win and pick up his seventh Florida State League save of the year. After tonight, Williams has yet to allow an earned run in 13 innings with the Manatees and has not allowed a hit in his last four outings. Delmonico and Garza led the charge for the Manatees offensively, as both players recorded multi-hit nights. Delmonico finished the ballgame with a 2-for-3 performance with a single and walk to accompany his solo blast. The Tennessee native is now hitting .421 (8-for-19) against the Cubs and has hit three of his four home runs against them. As for Garza, he collected his fourth straight multi-hit game with a 2-for-3 night at the plate. Lopez picked up the no decision, but deserves credit for a gutty performance. Despite tying a career-high with five walks, the right-hander kept the Manatees in the ballgame. The former second round pick allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits and struck out five. Brevard will travel back to Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark for the third game of this series with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. With a victory tomorrow, the Manatees will clinch the season series against the Cubs and take home the I-95 Trophy for the first time since 2007. Hobbs Johnson (9-6, 3.23) will get the start for Brevard County against fellow left-hander Nathan Dorris (3-4, 4.54). Brevard County Box Score Brevard County Play-By-Play

Final: Brevard County 3, Daytona 0 'Tees shutout Cubs, take first place Wagner dominates as 'Tees pick up season-high fifth straight win By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/7/0/8/77419708/cuts/Wagner_4.3_3_640x360_r599qkyi_ojs63i8n.jpg Brevard County starting pitcher Tyler Wagner, seen here in a game from earlier this season, extended his scoreless inning streak to 19 as he threw seven spotless frames in the Manatees' 3-0 win over the Daytona Cubs on Tuesday night at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - For the first time since April 8, the Brevard County Manatees are alone at the top of the Florida State League North Division. The 'Tees continued their torrid start to the second half on Tuesday night with a 3-0 win over the Daytona Cubs, on the road at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. Starting pitcher Tyler Wagner helped the Manatees (9-3 second half, 45-33 overall) notch their season-high fifth straight victory with seven shutout innings. After having his previous start skipped, the right-hander came back and struck out seven men. Wagner (7-4, 1.81 ERA) allowed three hits and walked three. As good as Brevard's starter was, however, he barely outdueled Jose Rosario. Rosario (4-5, 4.78 ERA) was behind the eight ball early after his defense faltered to allow the first run to score in the third. The starter gave up a leadoff double to Cameron Garfield, but got the next two men to strike out and ground out, respectively. Rosario then induced a grounder to third off the bat of Alfredo Rodriguez that should have gotten the Cubs (8-4, 34-46) out of the inning. Third baseman Wes Darvill, however, allowed the ball to glance off his glove and into left field. Garfield scored and the Manatees took a 1-0 edge. The Cubs had a prime chance to come back in the fourth inning. Albert Almora led off with ringing triple to left-center and Bijan Rademacher worked a walk. Daytona had runners on the corners with nobody out, but the Manatees miraculously got out of the jam. Dan Vogelbach chopped a grounder to Rodriguez at first base. He looked Almora back at third and stepped on first to retire Vogelbach. After Rodriguez got the first out, he wheeled around and threw to Orlando Arcia at the second base bag. Rodriguez's throw caught Rademacher in a rundown. Arcia kept his eye on Almora, as he chased Rademacher back toward first and eventually tagged the runner out for a double play. Meanwhile, Almora stayed put at third base. Wagner then got Chadd Krist to pop out to foul ground in left field to end the inning. After the leadoff triple, Wagner and the 'Tees defense had left the tying run stranded 90 feet away. Brevard County added to its lead in the sixth inning with a two-out rally. Nicky Delmonico singled and Garfield reached on a hit-by-pitch. A wild pitch moved the pair to second and third before Victor Roache. The Manatees had the bases loaded for Mike Garza with a chance to pad a one-run lead. Garza smashed a single up the middle to score both Delmonico and Garfield, as the 'Tees pushed their lead to 3-0. Wagner and Kevin Shackelford took the ballgame the rest of the way. After Wagner's scoreless outing, Shackelford kept the Cubs off the scoreboard in the eighth and ninth. The reliever allowed just two baserunners on an error and a bunt single. Otherwise, Daytona did not threaten against Shackelford. He struck out one and did not walk a batter, as he picked up his fifth save with the 'Tees this year. Wagner earned his third consecutive win with his performance. He has not lost a start since June 3 and has not allowed a run in his last 19 innings. Rosario took the loss despite 5.2 solid innings. He allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits. The righty struck out two and walked two. The Manatees' win gives them a 9-6 edge in the I-95 Rivalry. Brevard County needs just two more wins in the final five meetings with Daytona to capture the I-95 trophy for the first time since 2007. Brevard County will host Daytona at Space Coast Stadium on Wednesday night with a 6:35 scheduled first pitch. The 'Tees will send Jorge Lopez (8-3, 2.93 ERA) against Justin Amlung (1-2, 6.00 ERA). Brevard County Box Score Brevard County Play-By-Play Brevard County Top of the 6th Tyrone Taylor grounds out, shortstop Marco Hernandez to first baseman Dan Vogelbach. Pedro Peguero, Orlando Torrez and Axel Cordero combined for four scoreless innings of relief. Johel Atencio had the only multi-hit game for the Brewers. The 17-year-old Atencio went 2-for-4 with a double to raise his season average to .322. Franly Mallen and Nicol Valderrey each singled for the only other hits for the Brewers. DSL Brewers Play-By-Play The Brewers only run came on a ninth inning ground out. DSL Brewers Bottom of the 9th Franly Mallen singles on a line drive to left fielder Reangelo Willems. Final: Brevard County 5, Clearwater 3 Brevard rides fifth inning rally to sweep By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees CLEARWATER, Fla - It took a two-out rally in the fifth and a big triple from Michael Reed, but the Brevard County Manatees completed a three-game sweep of the Clearwater Threshers on Sunday with a 5-3 win at Bright House Field. The top of the fifth started rather pedestrian for the 'Tees. With Clearwater (4-7 second half, 21-58 overall) leading 3-1, Threshers starting pitcher Miguel Nunez retired the first two batters of the inning. At that point, Brevard County (8-3, 44-33) broke out the bats. After Nathan Orf watched a first-pitch fastball whiz past his chin, the 'Tees leadoff man ripped a single to left. Orlando Arcia came up next and smacked a double to put runners on second and third with two outs. Nunez (2-6, 6.22 ERA) was already in trouble, but he was about to make it worse. The righty uncorked a wild pitch that scored Orf and brought Arcia to third with the tying run. Tyrone Taylor came up with a chance to tie the game and he did so in surprising fashion. Taylor dropped a picture perfect bunt down the third base line. Arcia scored easily from third and third baseman K.C. Serna could do nothing but pick up the ball and toss it back to the pitcher, as Taylor reached with an RBI bunt single to tie the game at 3-3. For the second day in a row, the Manatees had mounted a comeback against Clearwater, but they were not done that inning. Reed, who hit his first triple of the year the previous night, slammed another three-bagger into right-center. Taylor scored the go-ahead run and Brevard County took a 4-3 lead. The visitors held onto the lead with some quality pitching. Starter Damien Magnifico (5-4, 3.38 ERA) tied a season-high with six strikeouts over five innings to set himself up for the win. The righty allowed three runs on five hits and left with the 'Tees on top by one run. After Magnifico exited, Mike Strong finished the job. The southpaw reliever pitched four shutout innings for the second straight outing. Strong struck out five Threshers, did not walk a batter and only allowed two hits, as he recorded his third save of the season. Mike Garza had provided the Manatees with an insurance run in the eighth inning on a one-out RBI double. That two-bagger capped a big day for Garza, who had also driven in Brevard's first run with a double in the fourth, finished 3-for-4. The first baseman hit .429 (6-for-14) during the three-game sweep. Brevard County has an off-day on Monday, but the 'Tees hit the road on Tuesday to face the Daytona Cubs. Tyler Wagner (6-4, 1.96 ERA) is scheduled to start against Cubs right-hander Jose Rosario (4-4, 4.96 ERA) First pitch at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark will be at 7:05 p.m. Brevard County Box Score Mike Garza with another big day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs batted in. He's up to .306 on the season now after today's performance. Michael Reed had a double and a triple while Tyrone Taylor and Brandon Macias each went 2-for-4. Nathan Orf reached base three more times with a single, a walk and a hit-by-pitch. It was the 14th time this season that Orf has been plunked. Orlando Arcia and Parker Berberet each added a double. Damien Magnifico started and went five innings, giving up three runs and striking out six to improve his record to 5-4. Michael Strong was brilliant in his four innings of work, giving up just two hits and no runs while striking out five to earn the save. The 'Tees have won four in a row and seven of their last eight. Granted, players like Garza, Orf and Macias are old for the league, but the recent play of youngsters like Arcia and Taylor is exciting to see, and even Victor Roache has hit safely in nine of his last ten games. The combination of veteran players and talented young prospects should make for an entertaining second half and hopefully a playoff run. Brevard County Play-By-Play Brevard County Top of the 5th Parker Berberet flies out to center fielder Roman Quinn. Brandon Macias flies out to right fielder Brian Pointer. Nathan Orf singles on a line drive to left fielder Brandon Short. Orlando Arcia doubles (20) on a line drive to center fielder Roman Quinn. Nathan Orf to 3rd. With Tyrone Taylor batting, wild pitch by Miguel Nunez, Nathan Orf scores. Orlando Arcia to 3rd. Tyrone Taylor singles on a bunt ground ball to third baseman KC Serna. Orlando Arcia scores. Michael Reed triples (2) on a fly ball to right fielder Brian Pointer. Tyrone Taylor scores. Pitching Change: Cody Forsythe replaces Miguel Nunez. Victor Roache strikes out swinging.

Final: Brevard County 6, Clearwater 4 (12 Innings) Arcia, Rodriguez Shock Threshers in 12 By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees CLEARWATER, Fla - Alfredo Rodriguez and Orlando Arcia shocked a crowd of 4,032 at Bright House Field, as the Brevard County Manatees won in 12 innings against the Clearwater Threshers, 6-4. The game looked in hand for Clearwater after J.P. Crawford and Art Charles hit solo shots in the bottom of the eighth to take a 4-2 lead into the ninth. Brevard County (7-3 second half, 43-33 overall), however, refused to die. With one out, Brandon Macias hit a fly ball to straight away center that should have been out number two. Roman Quinn, though, dropped the routine fly ball to bring the tying run to the plate. After the break, Nathan Orf popped out in foul territory to third and the 'Tees were down to their final out. Cue Arcia. The Manatees' shortstop launched a two-out, two run home run well over the left field wall. Arcia's clutch drive tied the score at 4-4. Clearwater (4-6, 21-57) went down 1-2-3 in the ninth, but had a pair of golden chances to win the game in extra innings. In the 10th, Crawford and Serna hit back-to-back singles to put the winning run on third base. Stephen Peterson, however, rolled a big double play ball to Macias. The third baseman turned the 5-3 twin-killing to get the 'Tees out of the inning. The game advanced to the 11th and again Clearwater had a chance to win it. Brian Pointer hit a two-out single off of Peterson and the 'Tees decided to go to the bullpen, as Scott Lieser came in to face a pinch-hitter, Gabriel Lino. As soon as Lieser came in, Pointer took off for second base in an effort to advance the winning run into scoring position. Brevard County catcher Cameron Garfield unleashed a throw, but the ball hit Lieser en route to second. Pointer moved up to second with the stolen base and the Threshers were a base hit away from winning the game. In a pressure-packed spot, Lieser came up big. He struck out Lino with a high fastball to get out of the inning and send the game to the 12th. After Lieser's heroics, Michael Reed gave the 'Tees a chance to win the game in the 12th. Reed lined a shot into the right-centerfield gap and raced around to third. The Threshers executed a perfect relay, but Reed made a miraculous slide around the tag of Harold Martinez for his first triple of the year. With that three-bagger, the 'Tees had the go-ahead run on third base with just one out. Clearwater opted to intentionally walk Garfield to set up a double play situation and face Victor Roache. Before Roache strode into the box, however, the Threshers made a call to the bullpen. Kevin Walter came on for Lino Martinez, who had been in the game since the eighth. Walter walked Roache to load the bases, but then struck out Garza for the second out. That brought Rodriguez to the plate. Facing a two-strike count, Rodriguez took a hanging slider and slammed a double down the left field line. Both Reed and Garfield came around to score and give the Manatees a 6-4 lead. Mark Williams came in for the bottom of the 12th and sealed a wild win. He issued a one-out walk, but then struck out Crawford and K.C. Serna to end the game and nail down his sixth save. Lieser (1-0, 2.57 ERA) took home his first career win after getting the big strikeout to keep the 'Tees alive in the 11th. Martinez (0-4, 3.89 ERA), who had given up the homer to Arcia and was charged with the winning runs, took the loss. In addition to the game-tying home run, Arcia also had a double and a single. For the second straight night, he finished just a triple away from hitting for the cycle. He was also one of five Manatees to record multiple hits. Brevard County has won both games of this series and will go for the sweep of the Threshers on Sunday afternoon. Damien Magnifico (4-4, 3.24 ERA) will start for the 'Tees against Miguel Nunez (2-5, 6.11 ERA). First pitch at Bright House Field is scheduled for 1 p.m. Brevard County Box Score Once again, every player in the Manatees lineup came up with at least one hit tonight. Orlando Arcia and Tyrone Taylor led the way with Arcia belting his third home run. Have to thing Arcia's got a pretty decent shot at winning FSL Player of the Week. As impressive as his recent hot streak has been, what's even more exciting is that he's showing some power over the past week as well. Nice job by the BC bullpen tonight with Stephen Peterson, Scott Lieser and Mark Williams combined to go the final four innings without allowing a run. Nicky Delmonico was out of the lineup again tonight and has played in just two of the team's last six games. Brevard County Play-By-Play Arcia's big blast to tie the game came with two outs in the ninth Brevard County Top of the 9th Defensive Substitution: Nick Ferdinand replaces left fielder Angelo Mora, batting 9th, playing left field. Final: Brevard County 8, Clearwater 4 Manatees double up Threshers, 8-4 in series opener By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees CLEARWATER, Fla. - For the second time in four nights, Orlando Arcia fell just shy of hitting for the cycle, as the Brevard County Manatees pounded out 17 hits in an 8-4 win over the Clearwater Threshers at Bright House Field on Friday night. Arcia went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and a single. He had two cracks at the triple that would have completed the cycle, but grounded out to third in the fifth and lined out to left in the ninth. Arcia was a home run away from hitting for the cycle on Tuesday against the Lakeland Flying Tigers. The Manatees shortstop got the offense started early. After Nathan Orf led off the ballgame with a single to extend his hit streak to 11 games, Arcia hooked a double down the left field line. Orf came home to put Brevard County (6-3 second half, 42-33 overall) on top, 1-0. Arcia advanced to third when the relay throw to home plate got away from catcher Gabriel Lino. Tyrone Taylor then chopped a single that allowed Arcia to scamper home from third and push the early lead to 2-0. Later on in the frame, Taylor found himself on third base with one out, following a Cameron Garfield single. Victor Roache then drove in Taylor with an RBI groundout to second. The 'Tees finished the top of the first inning with three runs on four hits. However, Clearwater (4-5, 21-56) used the long ball to knot the score in their half of the first. After Roman Quinn led off the inning with a double, J.P. Crawford hit a line drive home run over the right field wall. Two batters later, 'Tees starting pitcher Hobbs Johnson gave up another long ball to Brandon Short. The solo shot over the left field wall tied the game at 3-3. The wild contest continued in the second. Alfredo Rodriguez began the inning with a walk and Brandon Macias grounded a single through the right side. With runners on first and second, Orf hit a fly ball to right field that Brian Pointer caught and threw in to third base. The throw was wide of the third baseman, Harold Martinez and bounced past him. Starting pitcher Jeb Stefan then scrambled after the ball, as Rodriguez took off for third. Stefan picked up the ball and threw to the shortstop, Crawford, who was covering third base. Crawford applied the tag to Rodriguez for the second out, as Macias moved up to second. That play could have doomed the Manatees' hopes of taking back the lead that inning, but Arcia made sure it did not. He slammed a single to left-center to score Macias and the 'Tees reclaimed their advantage, 4-3. Brevard still held a one-run lead heading into the fifth, but that was when the fireworks went off for the 'Tees offense. Of course, Arcia was the catalyst. He lifted a high fly ball over the left field wall for his second homer of the season. The solo shot to leadoff the inning extended the 'Tees lead, but Taylor added to that. He followed up Arcia's long ball with a line drive that just cleared the left field wall. The back-to-back home runs made it a 6-3 Brevard County edge. Clearwater answered with a run in the fifth, but that was all the home side could muster. The Manatees added insurance in the seventh and ninth to put the game away. In the seventh, Taylor legged out an infield single and Michael Reed followed with a double in the right-center field gap. Taylor was off on the pitch and scored all the way from first, as the Manatees took a 7-4 lead. Two innings later, Orf gave the 'Tees their final run of the game and reached a big career milestone in the process. The second baseman lifted his first career home run over the left field wall and the Manatees went on top, 8-4. Every man in Brevard County's batting order recorded a hit, with the first three in the lineup - Orf, Arcia and Taylor - combining to go 8-for-15 with a double, three homers, six RBI and seven runs scored. After a rocky first inning, Manatees starter Hobbs Johnson recovered to pick up the victory. The left-hander tossed five innings and surrendered four runs on five hits. Johnson walked three and struck out two. With the victory, Johnson (9-6, 3.23 ERA) now sits atop the Florida State League in wins. He has also won each of his last five starts to go a perfect 5-0 in June. The 'Tees continue their series with the Threshers on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Austin Ross (7-1, 2.98) will get the start for the Manatees. He will go up against Mark Leiter, who is making his first start for Clearwater since being called up from Class-A Lakewood. Final: Lakeland 2, Brevard County 4 Lopez outduels Thompson as 'Tees top Lakeland, 4-2 By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/2/4/81823224/cuts/Lopez_6.26_2_640x360_2obwm3zc_2xnu8h2l.jpg Manatees starting pitcher Jorge Lopez allowed two runs in eight innings and earned his eight win of the season in Brevard County's 4-2 victory over the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium in Viera. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - In a battle of 2014 All-Star Futures Game selectons, Jorge Lopez and the Brevard County Manatees defeated Jake Thompson and the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 4-2 on Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium in a rain-shortened, eight-inning contest. Lopez's first seven innings were nearly flawless. He two-hit the Flying Tigers through seven frames, did not walk a batter and did not allow a single run. Lakeland's only runs against Lopez came right before the rain fell in the eighth inning. Lopez took a 4-0 'Tees lead into the eighth, but Austin Green led off the frame with a single. Right after that, James Robbins drove an opposite-field home run over the left field wall to cut Brevard County's lead in half. The rain would drown out any further chance that Lakeland had at coming back, as the game was unable to be completed due to heavy precipitation and lightning. Brevard County (5-3 second half, 41-33 overall) built its lead behind Orlando Arcia's hot bat. The shortstop - who had five hits and five RBI two nights ago - opened the scoring with the bases loaded and one out in the third. Arcia hit a hard grounder up the middle that bounced off the mound and drifted to second baseman Curt Powell behind the bag. Powell could not make a play and Alfredo Rodriguez scored to give the Manatees a 1-0 lead on the infield single. Two innings later, Arcia came up again with a chance to plate some runs. Rodriguez and Nathan Orf had knocked back-to-back two-out singles to start a rally. Arcia then delivered a line drive over the head of Robbins at first. Rodriguez trotted home, as Arcia cruised into second with an RBI double to make it a 2-0 game. Orf went 3-for-4 on the night to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. During that stretch, he has recorded eight multi-hit games and is hitting .488 (21-for-43). The Manatees tacked on two more runs in the sixth that proved to be the difference. Michael Reed began the inning with a clever bunt single down the third baseline. Nicky Delmonico then dunked a single into center to put runners on first and second. With Victor Roache at the plate, both Reed and Delmonico took off on a double steal. Lakeland catcher Austin Green tried to throw out Delmonico at second, but his throw soared into center. Reed scored easily to push the Manatees' lead to 3-0. After Roache flied out for the first out of the inning, Lakeland (3-5, 45-30) made a call to the bullpen and brought in right-hander Nate Fury to replace Thompson. Fury induced a groundout for the second out, but the reliever could not retire Parker Berberet. Brevard's catcher punched a single to right field that scored Delmonico and the 'Tees took a 4-0 lead. Thompson (6-3, 2.75 ERA) ended up as the losing pitcher in the rain-shortened ballgame. He was charged with all four runs over his 5.1 innings of work. The Manatees tallied nine hits against Thompson and struck out twice. Lopez (8-3, 2.93) earned his eighth victory to pull him even with Hobbs Johnson for the team-lead. The righty pitched eight innings and allowed two runs on five hits. Lopez did not issue a walk and struck out three Flying Tigers, as the 'Tees took the rubber match of the three-game series. Johnson (8-5, 2.97) will get the ball for Brevard County on Friday at 6:30 p.m., as the 'Tees hit the road for a three-game series against the Clearwater Threshers (4-4, 21-55). Clearwater is expected to send righty Jeb Stefan (4-6, 4.63) to the hill. Final: Lakeland 4, Brevard County 1 Brevard's bats quieted in 4-1 loss to Flying Tigers By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Behind seven stellar innings from starting pitcher Josh Turley, the Lakeland Flying Tigers downed the Brevard County Manatees, 4-1 at Space Coast Stadium on Wednesday night. Turley (7-0, 1.86 ERA) remained undefeated with his seventh victory of the year, as he surrendered just one run on eight hits. The left-hander only struck out two, but he kept the 'Tees off the basepaths. Turley walked one batter all game and faced four or fewer batters in four different innings. Brevard County (4-3 second half, 40-33 overall) scored its only run against Turley in the fourth inning, but the 'Tees were inches from scoring more. The Manatees were already down 4-0 at the start of the fourth, but Michael Reed roped a one-out double and Cameron Garfield followed with a single. Victor Roache then gave the Flying Tigers a scare. The 'Tees left fielder got into a Turley offering and lifted it high and deep to left. Chad Wright ranged all the way back to the wall, reached up and made the catch with his hip on the fence. Reed tagged up and scored from third on the sacrifice fly, but Brevard County was dangerously close to pulling within one run. Instead, they settled for a 4-1 deficit. Prior to that close call, Lakeland (3-4, 45-29) had feasted at the plate to take an early edge against 'Tees starter Chad Pierce. In the first, Wright reached on a leadoff error by second baseman Nathan Orf. Curt Powell then singled and Jeff McVaney plated the first run of the game with a double to score Wright. After the double opened the scoring, Pierce walked Lance Durham to load the bases with nobody out. Luckily for Brevard County, Lakeland could not manage a hit in that big spot, but the Tigers produced back-to-back sacrifice flies by Connor Harrell and Austin Green to take a 3-0 lead. The visiting side added insurance in the top of the third, as Pierce struggled with his control. The right-hander hit McVaney with a pitch to start the inning and then gave up a single to Durham that put runners on the corners. With nobody out and Harrell at the plate, Pierce uncorked a wild pitch that scored McVaney with the Flying Tigers' fourth run. Thanks to Turley and the Lakeland bullpen, those four runs were all Lakeland needed to snap Brevard County's three-game winning streak. Calvin Drummond relieved Turley and pitched a scoreless eighth to set up the closer, Brennan Smith. Smith promptly picked up his sixth save of the season without allowing a run in the ninth. The righty gave up a leadoff hit to Mike Garza, but then retired the final three 'Tees he faced. Pierce (1-4, 4.05), who was making a spot start, took the loss for the Manatees. Of the four runs he surrendered, only two were earned. The right-hander struck out three, walked two, hit a pair of batters and surrendered four hits in three innings of work. This was the first time Pierce gave up a run as a starter this season and the first time he took home a decision as a starter. Offensively, Orf was the biggest bright spot for the Manatees. He reached in four out of five plate appearances with two singles. The second baseman's 2-for-5 evening extended his career-high hitting streak to nine games. Orf is hitting .462 (18-for-39) during his current run. Brevard County and Lakeland will close out their three-game set with the rubber game of the series on Thursday night. First pitch at Space Coast Stadium is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Thursday's game will feature a pair of hurlers who were just selected to play in the 2014 All-Star Futures Game on July 15 at Target Field in Minnesota. Jorge Lopez (7-3, 3.00) will get the call for Brevard County against Lakeland's Jake Thompson (6-2, 2.43). Final: Lakeland 4, Brevard County 10 Arcia's career night leads 'Tees over Lakeland, 10-4 Brevard shortstop goes 5-for-5, falls homer shy of cycle By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Behind an incredible 5-for-5 night from Orlando Arcia, the Brevard County Manatees upended the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 10-4 at Space Coast Stadium on Tuesday night. His five hits were a new career-high and tied a career-high with five RBI, as the shortstop was just a home run shy of the cycle. It was with his help that Brevard County (4-2 second half, 40-32 overall) jumped out to an early lead. In the bottom of the first, Nathan Orf led off with a triple that he demolished to left-center field. Arcia wasted no time driving him in, as he roped the first pitch he saw down the left field line for his first of two doubles of the night. The extra base-hit allowed Orf to score easily and gave the Manatees the lead, 1-0. After James Robbins slammed a two-run home run to give Lakeland (2-4, 44-29) the 2-1 edge, the Brevard's bats struck right back. With one out in the third inning, Arcia picked up his second hit of the night with a single to left. Tyrone Taylor followed with a perfectly executed bunt single to put the pressure on Lakeland starter Kevin Eichhorn (4-2, 2.39 ERA). With Michael Reed at the plate, the Manatees attempted a double steal. Both Arcia and Taylor slid in safely, but catcher Austin Green's throw sailed down the left field line. That allowed Arcia to scamper home and Taylor to advance to third and tie the game up at 2-2. Reed then got in on the action by hitting a slow tapper back towards the mound that Eichhorn could not field cleanly. The Lakeland starter tried to flip the ball home to try and retire Taylor, who was racing home, but the throw and tag were late as the Manatees regained the lead for good, 3-2. With the lead now in hand, Brevard busted the game open in the fourth and fifth. A single by Victor Roache and a double by Alfredo Rodriguez proceeded Arcia's next big hit. \ The Venezuela native slapped the ball into the right-center field gap, which allowed Roache and Rodriguez to scoot home easily and push the lead to 5-2. Arcia kept the motor on, as he slid into third with his third hit of the night and his team-leading fifth triple of the year. The Manatees then put the game on ice in the following inning. With one out, Roache got plunked by Flying Tigers reliever Tyler Clark and Mike Garza followed with a single to put runners on the corners. After Rodriguez brought home a run with a fielder's choice, Orf doubled to left to set the stage for Arcia once again. The 19-year-old did not disappoint, as he ripped another double - this time down the right field line - to bring home both runners and give the Manatees a six-run lead, 8-2. Brevard extended their run total to ten in the seventh. With two outs, Orf was hit by his Florida league-high 13th pitch and Arcia picked up his fifth hit with a single to center. Taylor and Reed then followed suit by driving home both runners with back-to-back RBI singles. Lakeland tallied their final two runs of the game on a run-scoring ground out by Lance Durham in the sixth and a RBI single by Connor Harrell in the eighth. After going winless for just over a month, Damien Magnifico (4-4, 3.24) emerged victorious again tonight. In his longest start since May 24, the FSL All-Star went six innings and surrendered three runs - two earned - on four hits. His control was much improved, as he struck out four and issued just two walks. Brevard County's offense continues to impress, tallying 11-plus hits for the fourth time in five games. As whole, the team recorded 16 base knocks with four players - Orf, Arcia, Taylor and Garza - put together multi-hit efforts. Brevard County showed speed too, as they stole five bases to set a single-game high for 2014. The Manatees will battle the Flying Tigers again on Wednesday night, with first pitch slated for 6:35 p.m. Tyler Wagner (6-4, 1.96) gets the start, with the 'Tees looking to tie a season-high four-game winning streak. Lakeland will send southpaw and fellow All-Star Josh Turley (6-0, 1.91) to the mound to oppose him. Brevard County Box Score Orlando Arcia bumped his average up 14 points from .264 to .278 with his game tonight. Nathan Orf also had a nice game, reaching base three times. he doubled, tripled, and was hit by a pitch (box score currently says he walked, but game story says hbp and I was listening to the game and they said hbp on the broadcast as well). Michael Garza had three more hits and is hitting .362 in the month of June. The 'Tees ran wild on the bases, going 5-for-5 in steal attempts. Arcia, Michael Reed and Cameron Garfield each swiped a bag and Tyrone Taylor got two. Damien Magnifico gave up just four hits in six innings of work to pick up his fourth win. Martin Viramontes breezed through the seventh inning but ran in to a little bit of trouble in the eighth before turning things over to Scott Lieser who mowed down all four hitters he faced to close out the game. Final: Brevard County 7, Dunedin 4 'Tees upend Jays 7-4 with six-run second By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/5/8/81211258/cuts/Ross_6.18_2_640x360_qq6cphfh_0diop818.jpg Manatees starting pitcher Austin Ross, seen here in a game from earlier this season, picked up his seventh win of the season as he tied a career-high with 7.1 innings pitched in Brevard County's 7-5 win over the Dunedin Blue Jays on Monday afternoon at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin. Ross is now tied for second in the FSL with a 1.03 WHIP. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) DUNEDIN, Fla. - Thanks to a six-run second inning, the Brevard County Manatees defeated the Dunedin Blue Jays, 7-4 in the rubber match of a three-game set on Monday afternoon at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. Already up 1-0, Victor Roache slammed the first pitch of the inning to deep right-center. Blue Jays right fielder Nick Baligod chased the ball all the way to the wall, but could not make the play. After some confusion, it was ruled that the ball got lodged in between the two levels of fencing for a ground rule double. After a wild pitch advanced Roache to third and a two-out walk to Brandon Macias, Nathan Orf stepped up to the plate. Orf - who had already singled and scored a run to this point - slapped a base-hit into left field to score Roache and give the Manatees (3-2 second half, 39-32 overall) a 2-0 lead. The onslaught continued as Orlando Arcia roped a 0-2 pitch into left field to drive home Macias and extend the early lead to three. Back-to-back walks to Tyrone Taylor and Michael Reed brought home another run, before a major defensive mishap blew the game wide open. The next batter, Cameron Garfield hit a double play ground ball right at the third baseman Gustavo Pierre. However, the sharply hit ball rolled right between his legs and into left field. The error allowed Arcia and Taylor to cross the plate to give the Manatees a 6-0 lead. That was not the only error on the play, as left fielder Dwight Smith, Jr.'s throw to third base went wide, which allowed both Reed and Garfield to advance an extra base. Brevard tallied its final run of the rally on a wild pitch from Dunedin starter Taylor Cole (5-4, 2.86 ERA), which allowed Reed to score the 'Tees seventh and final run of the game. That offensive explosion was all Manatees starter Austin Ross (7-1, 2.98) needed to lock down a victory. The right-hander was phenomenal as he faced just one over the minimum through the first five innings. However as Ross tired, the Blue Jays (2-3, 48-26) made the game interesting down the stretch. After a run scored on a wild pitch and a RBI single by L.B. Dantzler trimmed the lead to 7-3 in the sixth, Dunedin made Brevard sweat as they put the tying run on base in the eighth. After Ross retired Gustavo Pierre to start the inning, the Blue Jays slapped three consecutive singles to load the bases. Stephen Peterson was the called on out of the bullpen and struggled to find the strike zone out of the gate. The left-hander walked Dantzler on four pitches to force home a run and all of a sudden the Manatees' seven run lead was down to three. With the tying run now on first base and the go-ahead run at the plate, Peterson dug deep and summoned his best stuff. The southpaw made Kevin Patterson look foolish as he struck out him out on a slider tailing off the outside corner for out number two. On a 2-2 pitch to the next batter, Baligod, it was first baseman Alfredo Rodriguez who made the play of the game. Baligod hit a slow tapper up the first base line and Rodriguez raced towards the ball. However, with no one to cover first, Rodriguez had to beat Baligod in a foot race to record the out. With both players neck and neck, Rodriguez made a head-long dive and slapped the base with his glove before Baligod's foot touched to record the third and final out of the inning. Mark Williams, who picked up the save on Sunday, came out the bullpen and dominated the Blue Jays to record his fifth Florida State League save of the year. The right-hander retired all three batters he faced, including a strike out of Santiago Nessy, to close out the victory. Despite the disappointing end to his outing, Ross tied a career-high by going 7.1 innings en route to his seventh victory of the season. He allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out three without walking a single hitter. With the strong performance, Ross is now tied for second in the FSL in WHIP at 1.02. Brevard tallied double-digit hits for the second straight day. Four players - Orf, Arcia, Roache and Yadiel Rivera - all had multi-hit games in the win. Rivera finished the day with a team-high three hits, including a ground-rule double and a stolen base. The middle infielder now has a four-game hit streak, during which he is hitting .500 (8-for-16). The Manatees will look to continue their winning ways on Tuesday night, as they return home to Space Coast Stadium and open a three-game series against the Lakeland Flying Tigers (1-3, 43-28) at 6:35 p.m. It will be a battle of North Division All-Stars as Damien Magnifico (3-4, 3.26) will face off against fellow righty Kevin Eichhorn (4-1, 1.93). Brevard County Box Score Yadiel Rivera had three more hits today - two singles and a double - and is batting .333 over his last ten games. Rivera also stole a base. Victor Roache singled and doubled as he continues to hover around the Mendoza Line. Orlando Arcia and Nathan Orf each had two singles. Final: Brevard County 6, Dunedin 5 Sixth inning rally pushes 'Tees past Dunedin, 6-5 By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/9/5/2/81158952/cuts/Orf_6.8_640x360_527urpew_r4bxxl0u.jpg Manatees designated hitter Nathan Orf, seen here in a game from earlier this season, went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored in Brevard County's 6-5 win over the Dunedin Blue Jays on Sunday evening at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) DUNEDIN, Fla. - Trailing 5-3, the Brevard County Manatees struck for three runs in the top of the sixth inning to knock off the Dunedin Blue Jays, by a final of 6-5 on Sunday evening at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. After a single by Mike Garza and a double by Yadiel Rivera, Nathan Orf came to the plate with one out and Brevard County (2-2 second half, 38-32 overall) trailing by a pair. On a 1-0 pitch from reliever Justin Jackson, Orf sliced a line drive down the right field line and into the corner. Garza and Rivera jogged home with ease, as Orf's double knotted the game up at five apiece. After an infield single by Orlando Arcia, it looked like Dunedin (2-2, 48-25) would escape with the game tied. Tyrone Taylor hit a tailor-made double play ball to short, but it took a wild hop and ricocheted off Emilo Guerrero and rolled behind him. Everyone was safe and Dunedin called on left-hander Tony Davis to face Nicky Delmonico. On a 3-2 pitch, Delmonico lofted a fly ball to shallow center. It did not seem deep enough to score the run, but Orf decided to test Dalton Pompey regardless. Pompey's throw was short and off line, as Orf scored the go-ahead run and put Brevard back in front, 6-5. The Manatees wasted no time getting on the board, as they tallied two runs in the first inning against Blue Jays starter Ben White (3-4, 5.01 ERA) Orf started the ball game with a single to left and advanced into scoring position on a ground out by Arcia. Taylor then served a single into left to bring home Orf for his team-leading 39th RBI of the year and put the 'Tees on top, 1-0. Three batters later - with the bases loaded - Garza hit a slow roller back up the middle. Guerrero ranged behind the second base bag, but had no play as Taylor raced home to extend the lead to two. However after every Manatee run, Dunedin answered back. The Blue Jays tied the game up with runs in the first and second inning courtesy of a RBI groundout off the bat of Marcus Knecht and a single by Gustavo Pierre, respectively. Brevard took the lead right back on a run-scoring double from Michael Reed, but it was short lived, as a two-run shot off the bat of Pierre in the fourth gave Dunedin its first lead of the game, 4-3. The Blue Jays brought home another run in the fifth on an RBI single by Guerrero, but that would be all the offense they would muster for the remainder of the game. Dunedin managed to get five runners on base over the course of the game's final four innings, but none crossed the plate. Kevin Shackelford, who took over for starter Hobbs Johnson (8-6, 2.97) at the start of the sixth inning, played a huge role in keeping those runners right where they were. After a leadoff single in the sixth, he induced a double play to put an immediate end to threat. Again in the eighth inning, with runners on second and third and one out, Shackelford struck out Christian Lopes and then got Dwight Smith, Jr. - who went 3-for-4 on Saturday - to ground out to second base to end the rally. Shackelford finished his evening right there, with four hits allowed in a season-high three innings pitched. The Manatees relied on Mark Williams to close out the win and that is exactly what he did. Much like Shackelford, after a one-out single, Williams forced L.B. Dantzler to ground into a game-ending 6-3 double play, as he picked up his fourth Florida State League save of the year. Despite not having his best stuff, Johnson was able to battle through five innings and pick up his eighth win of the year, which puts him in a three-way tie for the FSL lead. Johnson allowed five runs on eight hits to tie a season-high. Johnson was bailed out by a strong offensive output. The Manatees recorded 13 hits against Dunedin pitching; with three players - Orf, Reed and Garza - all recording multiple hits. Orf had the best night of them all, as he reached base four times with two runs scored, two doubles, two RBI and got hit by an FSL-leading 12th pitch. Brevard County will turn to Austin Ross (6-1, 2.75) - who defeated the Blue Jays this past Wednesday - as they take close out their three-game set with Dunedin on Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. The Blue Jays will counter with All-Star Taylor Cole (5-3, 2.60) in the rubber match of the series. Final: Brevard County 3, Dunedin 5 Three-run first dooms Brevard in 5-3 loss to Jays By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/8/4/80988184/cuts/Rivera_6.18_640x360_ag4jqco9_i5v5yprr.jpg Manatees shortstop Yadiel Rivera, seen here in a game from earlier this season, went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Brevard County's 5-3 loss to the Dunedin Blue Jays on Saturday night at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) DUNEDIN, Fla. - Behind a three-hit night from All-Star Dwight Smith, Jr., the Dunedin Blue Jays defeated the Brevard County Manatees, 5-3 on Saturday night at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. Smith, Jr. got the Blue Jays (2-1 second half, 47-23 overall) offense started early as his lead-off single set the tone for a three-run first inning. Following his base hit, Dalton Pompey walked to put runners at first and second. L.B. Dantzler then ripped a single to right-center to score Smith, Jr. and put Dunedin in front, 1-0. Smith, Jr. finished the day with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. He tallied another single in the second, before crushing a mammoth home run - his fifth of the season - off Mike Strong in the seventh. The Blue Jays bats were not done, however. Back-to-back singles by Kevin Patterson and Santiago Nessy pushed another run across to extend the lead to two. Dunedin tallied its final run of the first when Dantzler came across on a double play off the bat of Nick Baligod. Brevard County (1-2, 37-32) rallied back in the top of the third, but could not come through with the big hit. After Victor Roache roped a double to start the inning, the Manatees managed to load the bases with nobody out for Nathan Orf. On the first pitch of the at-bat, Orf hit a roller towards short that turned into a 6-4-3 double play. Roache raced home to score the Manatees' first run, but that was all they could push across. Dunedin responded immediately in the bottom of the third, as Patterson deposited a solo home run over the right field wall for his sixth long ball of the year and put the Jays up 4-1. The 'Tees managed to put together two more rallies, but the game-tying or go-ahead hit eluded them yet again. Brevard put runners at first and second with one out in the fifth for Yadiel Rivera. The second baseman ripped a run-scoring single to center to trim the lead to 4-2, but Orf and Orlando Arcia were retired consecutively to end the threat. Then in the eighth inning down 5-2, Brevard County brought the tying and go-ahead runs to the plate. After a single by Orf and a walk to Tyrone Taylor, Nicky Delmonico slapped a single into the right-center field gap. Orf motored home and the lead was trimmed to 5-3. After a walk to Michael Reed loaded the bases, Cameron Garfield crushed a ball that was ticketed for left-center. However, Dunedin shortstop Peter Mooney made a fantastic leaping grab to rob Garfield. Dunedin starting pitcher Kendall Graveman (6-3, 3.16 ERA), who took the loss against the Manatees on Monday, earned the win on Saturday against the 'Tees. The right-hander retired the first six batters he saw and faced the minimum in five of the seven innings he pitched. Graveman finished the day with two runs allowed on four hits, one walk and four strikeouts. After a bumpy, 37 pitch first inning, Manatees starter Jorge Lopez (7-3, 3.00) settled in nicely. The right-hander battled through five innings, but suffered his first loss since April 23. Lopez surrendered four runs on a season-high eight hits, but he did retire the last eight batters he faced, including nine of his last ten. Rivera finished with a strong night at the plate in defeat. He recorded two hits for the second consecutive night and drove in a run. Rivera has now picked up a hit in eight of his last ten games and has a .351 batting average (13-for-37) during that span. Southpaw Hobbs Johnson (7-6, 2.57) will look to put the Manatees back in the win column on Sunday evening as they battle the Blue Jays again, with first pitch scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Ben White (3-4, 4.98), who could not make it out of the second inning in his start against Brevard this past Tuesday, will get the ball for Dunedin. Brevard County Box Score Yadiel Rivera had the lone multi-hit game for the Manatees, going 2-for-4. Victor Roache doubled and recorded an outfield assist. Cameron Garfield extended his hitting streak to nine games. Brevard County Play-By-Play After Dunedin's big first inning, the Manatees had a chance for a big inning of their own in the third, but Nathan Orf grounded in to a double play that quickly ended the threat with Brevard only picking up one run in the inning. Brevard County Top of the 3rd Victor Roache doubles (8) on a line drive to left fielder Dwight Smith. Mike Garza reaches on a fielder's choice, fielded by pitcher Kendall Graveman. Yadiel Rivera singles on a ground ball to left fielder Dwight Smith. Victor Roache to 3rd. Mike Garza to 2nd.
