Final: Bradenton 7, Brevard County 10 'Tees rally twice to topple Marauders, 10-7 Rivera and Arcia both go 4-for-4 as Brevard racks up 18 hits By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Despite trailing 5-1 and 7-4 at different points in the ballgame, the Brevard County Manatees rallied to score the game's final six runs to defeat the Bradenton Marauders, 10-7 on Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium. Tied at seven in the bottom of the seventh inning, Cameron Garfield led off the frame with a single to center. With Victor Roache at the plate, Garfield swiped second base for his second steal of the year. After Roache struck out, Garfield advanced to third on a ground out by Mike Garza. That brought Yadiel Rivera - who had three base-hits already - to the plate with two outs. On a 1-0 pitch from Marauders' reliever Ryan Hafner, Rivera hit a high chop towards Bradenton (30-30) third baseman Eric Wood. Charging on the play, Wood fielded and fired low to first. The throw skipped past first baseman Walker Gourley and went all the way to the wall. Garfield scored easily as Rivera motored into second with a single and an error to give the 'Tees their first lead of the night, 8-7. Nathan Orf followed with a single to center to score Rivera from second base to extend the Manatees' lead to 9-7. Brevard County (31-28) tacked on an insurance run off Jeff Inman, who was making his 2014 debut after being activated from the disabled list at Double-A Altoona earlier in the day, in eighth. Nicky Delmonico slapped an RBI single to right field to make it 10-7. Mark Williams, making his fourth appearance since being added to the Manatees roster from Class-A Wisconsin, came in to close out the game in the top of the ninth. The right-hander worked around a one-out double to pick up his third save of the year. The victory marked Brevard County's eighth come-from-behind win of the season. Damien Magnifico (3-4, 3.05 ERA) struggled out of the gate and suffered his worst start of the season. After posting an incredible month of May, recording a 1.57 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP in 34.1 innings, the right-hander issued a season-high seven runs and tied a season-high with seven hits allowed in 4.2 innings, in his first June start. The first three batters for the Marauders reached to spark the first inning rally. After a walk to Adam Frazier and an error by Rivera at second base that allowed Gourley to reach base safely, Josh Bell drilled his first of five hits into left field for an RBI single to put Bradenton up 1-0. After a ground out by Jonathan Schwind, Max Moroff grounded a two-run double to right to extend the early lead to three. However after every Bradenton threat, the 'Tees came back with a rally of its own. With two outs in the first, Michael Reed came through with his first base-hit since being activated from the disabled list to score Orlando Arcia and cut the lead to 3-1. The back-and-forth affair continued with the Marauders scoring two runs in the second. With a runner on third and one out, Frazier slapped a run-scoring single to left to make it 4-1, Bradenton. After a Gourley single, Bell came through with another RBI single to extend the lead to four. Brevard rallied back once again to score the game's next three runs. After an RBI single by Arcia in the second cut the lead to 5-2, the 'Tees added two more in the fourth. With two outs and no one on, Rivera blooped a single to shallow right field. However, Rivera took too wide of a turn at first and was caught off the bag. After receiving the throw from the right fielder Schwind, Bradenton starting pitcher, Orlando Castro (3-3, 3.26), threw to second base to try and get Rivera. The throw from Castro was wide and went sailing into left field. Rivera never stopped until he crossed home plate to cut the lead to two. The Manatees were not done as Orf followed with a double to left. Arcia - already with two hits to his name - lined another base-hit to center to score Orf to trim the Marauders' lead to one. However, Arcia was tagged out trying to advance to second on the throw to the cutoff man. Both teams would put up two spots in the fifth. Bradenton extended their lead to 7-4 on a two-run double by Jacob Stallings, while the Manatees countered in the bottom of the frame with RBI singles by Garfield and Roache to cut the deficit back to one. It was in the sixth when the Manatees finally tied the game. Brevard loaded the bases on a single by Rivera and then back-to-back walks to Orf and Arcia. Tyrone Taylor followed with a sacrifice fly to left to knot the game up at seven. That was all the Manatees would get as Orf was cut down at home on a fielder's choice by Reed and Delmonico grounded out to second to end the threat. Much like his Brevard counterpart, Castro battled through his worst start of the season. The Marauders' lefty - who was named to the Florida State League South All-Star team on Tuesday - surrendered a season-high 12 hits and six runs (five earned) over 4.2 innings of work. Manatees' reliever Stephen Peterson picked up his first win of the year in relief. The left-hander did not allow a run on two hits in two innings of work. Hafner took his second loss of the year in relief for the Marauders. The right-hander surrendered three runs on four hits and two walks in 2.1 innings. Brevard finished the night with a staggering 18 hits. Eight of the nine players in the lineup recorded at least one base-hit, while five of those eight - Arcia, Rivera, Orf, Delmonico and Garfield - all recorded multi-hit games. The 'Tees will look to take the series against the Marauders tomorrow night at Space Coast Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Right-hander Chad Pierce (1-2, 4.15) will make a spot-start for Brevard. Fellow righty, Jason Creasy (3-2, 3.79), will get the start for Bradenton. Brevard County Box Score Brevard County Play-By-Play

Final: Bradenton 1, Brevard County 3 Brevard bests Bradenton 3-1 in series opener Ross fans eight, allows one unearned run over six to earn win By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/2/8/78265228/cuts/Ross_6.4_640x360_9yi1a9rm_vtwisw02.jpg Brevard County starting pitcher Austin Ross allowed just one unearned run and struck out a season-high eight hitters over six innings, as the Manatees defeated the Bradenton Marauders, 3-1 on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium in Viera. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - In just his third start of the season, Brevard County right-hander Austin Ross recorded a season-high eight strikeouts, as the Manatees defeated the Bradenton Marauders, 3-1 at Space Coast Stadium on Wednesday night. The Marauders scored in the first inning, but that was the only run they could muster off of Ross, in his six frames of work. Jeff Roy worked a leadoff walk and moved to second on his 16th stolen base of the year. Roy moved up to third on a ground out and then scored on a passed ball to give Bradenton an early 1-0 lead. Ross would settle down after that, as he did not allow a hit through the first four innings and worked smoothly through a couple of jams. The Manatees (30-28) led 2-1 in the fourth, but Ross faced the middle of the Marauders' order with runners on the corners and one out. He then proceeded to strike out Jordan Steranka and Jose Osuna to end the frame. The Marauders (30-29) had a big opportunity the following inning, as well. Bradenton had Jin-De Jhang on third and Eric Wood on second with the 'Tees still leading by one run. Roy hit a ground ball to first baseman Garrett Cooper who fielded and threw home. Brevard catcher Parker Berberet was waiting for Jhang at the plate, ran him down the third base line and tagged him for the second out of the inning. Ross then fanned Max Moroff, to finish the inning unscathed. In the end, Ross (5-0, 2.56 ERA) allowed one unearned run over six innings of work. He gave up three hits and walked two, en route to his third straight victory. Brevard County's offense helped Ross out early. After the Marauders took their one-run lead, Nathan Orf led off the Manatees' half of the first with a walk. With one out, Tyrone Taylor ripped a double down the left field line that scored Orf and tie the game. Nicky Delmonico followed with an RBI single - his first of two hits on the night - to put the 'Tees in front, 2-1. Victor Roache and Yadiel Rivera helped the 'Tees add insurance in the seventh. Roache led off with a single and moved to third on a ground-rule double by Cooper, who made his return to the lineup for the first time since May 20. Brevard had runners on second and third with one out and Rivera hit a chopper to Wood at third base. Wood's only play on the high-bouncer was to first base, which allowed Roache to score and give the Manatees a 3-1 advantage. A pair of relievers helped the Manatees seal the win down the stretch. Lefty Mike Strong made his first appearance since May 23 and pitched a scoreless seventh inning. After Strong finished, Kevin Shackelford pitched the eighth and ninth. He allowed one hit, but no runs and struck out one to pick up his second save with the 'Tees this season. John Kuchno (3-5, 4.06) took the loss for Bradenton. He gave up three runs on six hits over seven innings. The Marauders' right-handed starter struck out two and issued two walks. Brevard County and Bradenton will continue their four-game set on Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. at Space Coast Stadium. The Manatees will send Damien Magnifico (3-4, 2.39) to the mound against southpaw Orlando Castro (3-3, 2.77) for the Marauders. Final: Brevard County 4, Charlotte 6 Manatees fall 6-4 in series finale to Stone Crabs Arcia goes 4-for-5 with a home run and double in loss By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees http://brevardcounty.manatees.milb.com/assets/images/2/9/8/78079298/cuts/Arcia_4.15_640x360_n6ogniko_un9ephlu.jpg Brevard County second baseman Orlando Arcia, seen here in a game from earlier this season, went 4-for-5 with a double, home run, two runs scored and two RBI on Tuesday night at Charlotte Sports Park. However, the Manatees dropped the series finale, 6-4 to the Charlotte Stone Crabs. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Though they climbed out of an early hole, the Brevard County Manatees could not overcome the Charlotte Stone Crabs in a 6-4 loss on Tuesday night at Charlotte Sports Park. After the teams traded runs in the first four innings, Brevard County (29-28) and Charlotte (28-28) were tied at 4-4. That score held until the sixth when the Stone Crabs took the lead and did not look back. Charlotte's Patrick Leonard led off the inning with a walk and Justin O'Conner singled to put runners on the corners. With one out, Kes Carter delivered the go-ahead run against Manatees' starting pitcher Tyler Wagner, as his sacrifice fly put the Stone Crabs ahead, 5-4. Marty Gantt gave the Stone Crabs insurance the next inning. Gantt led off the seventh with a solo shot off of Jose De La Torre, to give Charlotte a 6-4 lead. The Manatees had their chances, but could not capitalize. Perhaps their best opportunity was taken away from them by the right fielder Gantt on a stellar defensive play in the sixth. With the game still tied, Nicky Delmonico led off of third and Yadiel Rivera was at the plate with two outs. Rivera roped a shot down the right field line, but Gantt sprinted over and made a diving catch to end the inning. After the Stone Crabs took their 5-4 lead, the 'Tees had another chance to tie or take the lead in the seventh. Orlando Arcia hit a one-out single and Tyrone Taylor walked, then both runners moved up to on a soft ground ball back to the pitcher. Brevard had runners on second and third with two outs, but Charlotte reliever Parker Markel struck out Michael Reed to end the inning. The 'Tees later brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but nothing came of it. Arcia ripped a two-out double to right-center against Ryan Garton. That brought Taylor to the plate, but Garton induced a game-ending pop-out to record his second save of the season. Wagner (4-4, 2.29 ERA) was saddled with the loss. He allowed five runs - four earned - over 5.2 innings of work. Wagner surrendered seven hits, walked three and struck out two. Despite the loss, Arcia had a spectacular day at the plate. The second baseman finished with four hits in five trips to the plate. He homered, doubled, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice. The 'Tees dropped three out of four in Port Charlotte, and will return home for a four-game series against the Bradenton Marauders (30-28), beginning on Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. Austin Ross (4-0, 2.95) is the scheduled to get the start for Brevard County against John Kuchno (3-4, 4.09) for the Marauders. Brevard County Box Score Orlando Arcia raised his average from .258 to .271 with his performance tonight and fell just a triple short of the cycle. Yadiel Rivera doubled and drew a walk and Tyrone Taylor picked up his 22nd double of the season. Brevard County Play-By-Play Brevard County Top of the 3rd Yadiel Rivera hits a ground-rule double (5) on a line drive to left field. Yeraldy Martinez moved up to the three spot and reached base in four of five trips to the plate. He singled twice, tripled and drew a walk while scoring a pair of runs. Johel Atencio and Juan De Los Santos singled and doubled while De Los Santos also drew a walk. Third baseman Roosevert Chal also picked up a pair of hits in his 2014 debut. 20-year-old Rodrigo Benoit started the game for the Brewers and went 4.2 innings, allowing three runs, but only one earned. He was relieved by 19-year-old Melvin Tejada who tossed the final 4.1 innings in his second appearance of the season, allowing a run on just two hits. Outfielder Joantgel Segovia, who had three hits in his first seven at bats, was out of the lineup today after leaving yesterday's game early. Brevard County 3, Charlotte 0 'Tees blank Charlotte to split doubleheader Johnson throws six scoreless innings in 3-0 victory By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/6/9/0/77957690/cuts/Johnson_5.28_1_640x360_3padqsm8_nkinnqlu.jpg Brevard County starting pitcher Hobbs Johnson, seen here in his last outing, threw six shutout innings as the Manatees blanked the Charlotte Stone Crabs, 3-0 in the second game of Monday night's doubleheader at Charlotte Sports Park. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Behind six shutout innings by starting pitcher Hobbs Johnson, the Brevard County Manatees downed the Charlotte Stone Crabs, 3-0 in game two of Monday's doubleheader at Charlotte Sports Park. Johnson carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning before giving out a one-out single to Kes Carter. Prior to that, the southpaw had set down the first 13 Stone Crabs hitters with just one strikeout. Brevard's starting pitcher had to work out of trouble after surrendering the no-hit bid. Jake Depew followed Carter's single with a bloop hit to shallow left field. Charlotte (27-28) had runners on first and second with one out, but Johnson struck out both Marty Gantt and Julian Ridings to end the inning. Johnson only allowed one more hit the rest of the way, which happen to be against his former college teammate at the University of North Carolina, Tommy Coyle. In the end, Johnson (5-6, 2.66 ERA) finished the game with six scoreless innings under his belt, three hits allowed and three strikeouts. Brevard County (29-27) scored its three runs in three separate innings. A two-out rally opened the scoring in the top of the third when Orlando Arcia slammed a triple to right field. Tyrone Taylor came up next and singled up the middle to score Arcia with the game's first run. The 'Tees added insurance the following inning, as Alfredo Rodriguez started the frame with a double to left field and then Mike Garza hit a one-out bloop single to right to put runners on the corners. Parker Berberet then hit a hard line drive to left field. Berberet's liner was caught on the track by Ridings, but Rodriguez scored from third to give the 'Tees a 2-0 lead. A series of walks gave the Manatees their final run. Stone Crabs' reliever Nick Sawyer walked four men in the sixth; including a bases-loaded free pass to Jose Sermo to drive in Rodriguez. The Manatees held a 3-0 lead going into the seventh and Mark Williams came in for the save. Williams worked a perfect frame with two ground outs and a fly out to record his second Florida State League save of the year. The Manatees will go for the four-game series split against the Stone Crabs on Tuesday night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tyler Wagner (4-3, 1.94) will pitch for the 'Tees against Charlotte's Jeff Ames (1-6, 6.29). Brevard County Box Score Hobbs Johnson with six shutout innings and only three hits allowed, lowering his season ERA to 2.66. Michael Garza picked up two more hits, Alfredo Rodriguez doubled and walked twice and Orlando Arcia tripled and walked. Brevard County Play-By-Play Johnson allowed a couple of singles, but struck out the side in the fifth. Charlotte Bottom of the 5th Justin O'Conner strikes out swinging. Brevard County 1, Charlotte 2 (10 Innings) Brevard drops twinbill opener in extras 'Tees lose on walk-off to Charlotte for second straight game By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/7/1/2/77952712/cuts/Lopez_5.9_4_640x360_42h32o85_7csc84zu.jpg Brevard County starting pitcher Jorge Lopez, seen here in a game from earlier this season, went six innings and struck out five, but did not factor in the decision as the Manatees were defeated by the Charlotte Stone Crabs, 2-1 in the first game of Monday night's doubleheader at Charlotte Sports Park. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - For the second straight game, the Brevard County Manatees fell victim to a walk-off hit off the bat of Jonathan Quinonez as they fell 2-1 in ten innings to the Charlotte Stone Crabs, in the first game of Monday night's doubleheader at Charlotte Sports Park. The Stone Crabs' third baseman had already delivered a walk-off hit on Saturday night and he came to the plate with the score tied 1-1 and Marty Gantt on first base. Gantt had worked a one-out walk against Stephen Peterson, to give Quinonez a chance to be the hero for the second straight game. Quinonez did just that, as he roped a double to left-center field to score Gantt with the game-winning run. Brevard County had taken an early lead thanks to Nicky Delmonico. Delmonico led off the second inning by driving a high fly ball over the right field wall to put the 'Tees on top, 1-0. The Manatees held the lead until the bottom of the fifth, when Charlotte's Maxx Tissenbaum sparked a rally. Tissenbaum ripped a leadoff double to right-center and moved to third on a wild pitch by Brevard County starting pitcher Jorge Lopez. Josh Sale then worked a walk to put runners on the corners with nobody out. Lopez settled down and induced a ground ball double play off the bat of Gantt. However, Tissenbaum came across to score the tying run, to knot the score at 1-1. That score remained the same until Quinonez's clutch double in the tenth. With the loss, the Manatees have now suffered six walk-off losses this season and have not had a walk-off victory of their own. Peterson took the loss for the 'Tees. He allowed the one run over 1.1 innings of work. The left-hander struck out one, walked one and allowed a pair of hits. In the no-decision, Lopez allowed one run on three hits, while walking two and fanning five. Scott Lieser made his Manatees debut, as well. He pitched a pair of scoreless innings in relief of Lopez. The St. Cloud State product did not allow a hit and struck out two. Brevard County Box Score Jorge Lopez deserved a better fate. He went six innings and gave up just one run on three hits. Michael Garza had the only mulit-hit game, picking up a pair of singles. Nicky Delmonico homered and walked. Victor Roache was back in the lineup for the first time in almost two weeks, but went 0-for-4. Speaking of returning outfielders, Michael Reed should be coming off the DL soon (perhaps tomorrow) after missing the past few weeks with an oblique injury. Brevard County Play-By-Play Delmonico's home run to lead off the second was all the offense that Brevard could manage in game one. Brevard County Top of the 2nd Nick Delmonico homers (2) on a fly ball to right field. Cameron Garfield grounds out, shortstop Leonardo Reginatto to first baseman Patrick Leonard. Victor Roache strikes out swinging. Yadiel Rivera singles on a line drive to center fielder Kes Carter. Mike Garza singles on a line drive to right fielder Marty Gantt. Yadiel Rivera to 3rd. Brandon Macias strikes out swinging.

Final: DSL Brewers 7, DSL Tigers 11 The Tigers got a pair of runs in the first inning and three more in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead, but the Brewers bats came to life in the sixth to make it a game once again. After Joantgel Segovia drew a one out walk, First baseman Nicol Valderrey singled to put runners at the corners. Johel Atencio's fly ball to right dropped in, allowing Segovia to score, but Valderrey was thrown out going to second base on a force out for the second out of the inning. Third baseman Raphachel Colatosti drew a two out walk, bringing Yerald Martinez to the plate with two men on. Martinez followed with a triple to right, scoring both Atencio and Colatosti and pulling the Brewers back in to the game at 5-3. The Tigers went to the bullpen to try to snuff out the Brewers rally, but Kevin Martinez greeted new pitcher Enrique De Pena with an infield single that scored Yerald Martinez to bring the Brewers within a run at 5-4. The Brewers would take the lead in the seventh as they plated three more runs. Segovia got things going once again with a leadoff single to left and moved to second on a groundout by Valderrey. Atencio singled to left and Segovia tried to score from second on the play but was thrown out at the plate. Despite the out at the plate, Atencio was able to move to second on the play and then took third on a wild pitch. Colatosti drew a walk to put runners at the corners and Yerald Martinez singled to left to score Atencio and tie the game at 5-5. Then Kevin Martinez ripped a double to right to knock in both Colatosti and Yerald Martinez and give the Brewers a 7-5 lead. The lead wouldn't last long however as the Tigers answered right back in the bottom of the seventh. Pedro Peguero came on to work the seventh for the Brewers but could not locate the plate, walking four consecutive batters and uncorking a pair of wild pitches. Peguero was quickly replaced with Juan Diaz with the bases loaded and nobody out and the Brewers clinging to a 7-6 lead. Diaz struck out the first batter he faced, but then allowed a single, walk, and another single to cough up the lead. The Tigers would hang five runs on the Brewers bullpen in the seventh and another in the eighth, and shut down the Brewers the rest of the way to pick up an 11-7 win. DSL Brewers Box Score Not a great outing for the 20-year-old Pedro Peguero. He faced four batters, walked all four, and was lifted without retiring a batter. Nattino Diplan was the Brewers starter and didn't fare much better, allowing eight hits and five runs (four earned) in 4.2 innings. Kevin Martinez singled, doubled, drew a walk and knocked in three runs, while Yerald Martinez singled, tripled and collected three RBI. 17-year-old Venezuelan outfielder Joantgel Segovia was 2-for-3 with a walk. Final: Brevard County 2, Charlotte 3 Manatees drop opener on walk-off to Stone Crabs By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Walk-off losses have been all too common for the Brevard County Manatees in 2014, as they suffered their fifth such defeat in a 3-2 loss against the Charlotte Stone Crabs on Saturday night at Charlotte Sports Park. The Stone Crabs set up the game-winning hit with a rally against Chad Pierce. Kes Carter led off the inning with a ground ball single through the right side and he moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jake DePew. Josh Sale worked a walk, but with first base open, that simply set up a potential inning-ending double play. The 'Tees were looking for a ground ball and got one off the bat of Marty Gantt, but the grounder was to the wrong spot. Gantt hit a roller to deep shortstop and Yadiel Rivera made a sliding stop in the hole and threw to second base. The throw was barely late and all runners reached safely to load the bases. That opened the door for Jonathan Quinonez who drilled a single back up the middle to win the game. Brevard County (28-26) had overcome a 2-0 deficit earlier in the game. With one out in the sixth, Nicky Delmonico hit a soft flair to shallow right field that dunked in over the glove of the third baseman, Quinonez. Delmonico tried to stretch the hit into a double and Quinonez made an attempt to throw him out. However, the throw skipped away from second baseman Tommy Coyle and Delmonico hustled to third. The 'Tees had their chance to cut into the lead, with a runner 90 feet from home for the first time in the game. Stone Crabs' starting pitcher Austin Pruitt was almost able to work out of the jam. He induced a ground out to third for the second out, but catcher Justin O'Conner gave Brevard a break. Delmonico led off of third with two outs and Rivera at the plate. Pruitt delivered a pitch high and O'Conner could not hold on. The ball skipped to the backstop and Delmonico scampered home with the Manatees' first run and made it a 2-1 game The following inning, Nathan Orf delivered a big two-out hit - his third of the night - to tie the game. Mike Garza had singled to lead off the inning, but the next two Brevard hitters struck out and flied out. Orf came through with a double down the left field line to score Garza with the tying run. Charlotte (26-27) scored its first two runs off Manatees' starting pitcher Damien Magnifico in the third and fourth. In the third, Gantt worked a one-out walk and Coyle chopped a ground ball up the middle that barely snuck through that scored Gantt with the first run of the ballgame. Patrick Leonard led off the next inning with a solo homer to left field. Magnifico (3-4, 2.39 ERA) went five innings and allowed the two runs on three hits, while walking one and striking out three. Brevard County will get another shot at the Stone Crabs on Sunday night at Charlotte Sports Park, with first pitch scheduled for 5:00 p.m. The Manatees will send Jorge Lopez (6-2, 3.17) to the hill against Charlotte's Reinaldo Lopez (3-2, 3.98). Brevard County Box Score Nathan Orf and Nicky Delmonico accounted for five of the seven Brevard hits. Orf went 3-for-4 with a double and Delmonico was 2-for-4 with a double. Orlando Arcia and Michael Garza had the only other Manatees base hits. Rough outing for Chad Pierce who gave up three hits and a walk in the tenth inning. Final: Brevard County 3, St. Lucie 1 Brevard's pitching baffles St. Lucie again in 3-1 win Ross allows one run in seven innings, 'Tees take three of four in series By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/2/6/77554126/cuts/Garza_5.25_640x360_gvrb8m3g_n9mjp6co.jpg Brevard County first baseman Mike Garza, seen here in a game from earlier this season, went 3-for-4 with a double in the Manatees' 3-1 win over the St. Lucie Mets at Tradition Field on Friday night. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - For the second straight night, the Brevard County Manatees rallied behind a terrific starting pitching performance as Austin Ross shut down the St. Lucie Mets, en route to a 3-1 win at Tradition Field on Friday night. Ross (4-0, 2.95 ERA), who moved from the bullpen to the rotation after Jed Bradley was called up to Double-A Huntsville, held the Mets scoreless through his first six innings. The starter allowed his only run in the seventh and final inning of work, while scattering four hits. Ross struck out four and walked three. Brevard County's offense had plenty of opportunities to break through against the Mets early, but did not capitalize until the fifth. Nathan Orf reached first on an error to leadoff the inning and then with one out, Tyrone Taylor singled to center. With two outs in the inning, Cameron Garfield hit a fly ball into the left-center field gap that allowed both Orf and Taylor to score as Garfield cruised into second with a clutch double to give the 'Tees a 2-0 lead. The Manatees (28-25) added another run in the sixth inning. Yadiel Rivera and Mike Garza delivered back-to-back singles to start the frame, with Rivera going to third on Garza's single. That allowed Rivera to score and make it 3-0, when Jose Sermo grounded into a double play. Both Rivera and Garza had multi-hit nights for Brevard as Rivera had two singles and Garza had three hits - including a double - for the second straight night against the Mets (31-23). Following Ross's seven one-run innings, Jose De La Torre made his Brevard County debut in the eighth and gave up one hit, but proceeded to strike out the side. Mark Williams then picked up his first save of the year with a scoreless ninth. He allowed one batter to reach with two outs, but ended the game with a strikeout to seal the victory. The Manatees took three games from the Mets to win the four-game series. Brevard County's road trip will continue as they head to Port Charlotte to open up a four-game set with the Charlotte Stone Crabs (25-27). The series opener is set for Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. Brevard County Box Score Yet another fine pitching performance from a Manatees starter as Austin Ross appears to be fully healed from Tommy John surgery two seasons ago. Orlando Arcia was the only Manatee to draw a walk and he actually walked twice and stole a base. After his 3-for-4 tonight, Michael Garza now has eleven hits in his last seven games. Final: St. Lucie 3, Brevard County 2 Ninth-inning rally falls short against Mets Manatees fall 3-2 to St. Lucie, three-game win streak snapped By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees finally broke out their bats in the ninth inning, but it turned out to be too little, too late in a 3-2 loss to the St. Lucie Mets on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium. Brevard County (26-25) entered the inning trailing 3-0, but the 'Tees rallied quickly against Mets closer Randy Fontanez. Tyrone Taylor delivered a one-out single and then Nicky Delmonico drilled a double to right-center field, to score Taylor and cut the Manatees' deficit to two runs. After Cameron Garfield flied out to center for the second out of the inning, Alfredo Rodriguez delivered. His RBI single scored Delmonico and pulled the 'Tees within one run. Rodriguez carried the tying run on first base and the Manatees' chances rested on the shoulders of Yadiel Rivera. The second baseman battled against Fontanez, but ultimately grounded out to third for the final out of the ballgame. In the process, Fontanez nailed down his seventh save of the season. St. Lucie (31-21) starter Domingo Tapia earned the win after pitching seven scoreless innings. Tapia (2-4, 3.74 ERA) surrendered just three hits, walked three and struck out one to pick up his first win in seven starts. The right-hander only allowed two men to reach scoring position all night. St. Lucie struck early against Manatees' starting pitcher Hobbs Johnson. Brandon Nimmo got the Mets going in the first inning with a one-out single. After Gilbert Gomez walked, Jairo Perez drove in both men with a single to put the Mets on top, 2-0. The Mets did not score again until the fourth inning. Perez hit a leadoff single and Aderlin Rodriguez reached on a one-out fielding error by Johnson. A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position and Eudy Pina drove in Perez with a sacrifice fly to left field. Johnson (4-6, 2.95) settled down, but ultimately took the loss. The left-hander retired the final seven men he faced to finish on a high note. In the end, Johnson allowed three runs - two earned - over six innings on just four hits. He struck out five and walked two in a tough-luck defeat. The 'Tees and Mets shift their series to St. Lucie for Thursday and Friday. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Tradition Field. Brevard County is expected to start Tyler Wagner (3-3, 2.05) against St. Lucie's Luis Cessa (3-3, 3.40). Brevard County Box Score Alfredo Rodriguez had a nice game, getting on base three times with two singles and a walk. He also stole a base. Nicky Delmonico's double was the only extra base hit for the Manatees. Orlando Arcia is batting .342 in his last ten games and he singled and walked again tonight. Still no Victor Roache who hasn't played since May 21st. Hobbs Johnson with another quality start in which he took the loss. Final: St. Lucie 1, Brevard County 2 Lopez masterful as Manatees edge Mets, 2-1 'Tees starter allows one unearned run in eight-plus innings By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/0/3/6/77082036/cuts/Lopez_5.4_640x360_8gdmt3d1_zl1lizad.jpg Brevard County starting pitcher Jorge Lopez threw eight-plus innings and allowed just one unearned run on four hits, as the Manatees defeated the St. Lucie Mets, 2-1 on Tuesday night at Space Coast Stadium in Viera. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - Manatees' starting pitcher Jorge Lopez was dominant in the longest outing of his career, as Brevard County defeated the St. Lucie Mets, 2-1 on Tuesday night at Space Coast Stadium. He took a stab at his first career complete game, but fell just short in a terrific outing. The right-hander pitched eight innings of two-hit, shutout ball and then came out to pitch the ninth. Lopez (6-2, 3.17 ERA) did not allow a hard-hit ball in the ninth, but he did allow the tying run to reach base. He gave up a bloop single to Dilson Herrera and then an infield single to Gilbert Gomez to start the inning. Kevin Shackelford came on to relieve Lopez with the game in the balance. The right-hander bent, but did not break. St. Lucie scored on a fielder's choice by T.J. Rivera that brought Herrera home. However, that was all that the Mets could muster. Shackelford struck out the final two men he faced to end the ball game. He fanned both Jairo Perez and Cam Maron to nail down his first save this season since coming to Brevard County. Shackelford had also recorded one save for Double-A Huntsville. With the win, Lopez has now been victorious in each of his last five decisions. He also tied St. Lucie's Matthew Koch for the Florida State League-lead in wins. Lopez pitched eight-plus innings and only allowed four hits and one unearned run, while walking two and striking out four. Brevard County (26-24) scored both of its runs in the third inning. Jose Sermo led off the inning with a home run down the right field line, as his first long ball of the year gave the 'Tees a 1-0 lead. Nathan Orf started a new rally after Sermo's home run with a double to right-center field. Orlando Arcia followed with a single and then Tyrone Taylor walked to load the bases. Two batters later, Alfredo Rodriguez hit a ground ball to second base that Herrera bobbled when he tried to throw to second base. That allowed Orf to score from third, to give Brevard a 2-0 edge. Mets' center fielder and highly-touted prospect, Brandon Nimmo injured himself on Orf's double. Nimmo picked up the ball off the warning track and attempted to throw it toward the infield, but his ankle appeared to buckle and he fell to the ground. St. Lucie (30-21) removed Nimmo from the game and Gilbert Gomez played the rest of the night in his spot. The Manatees and Mets face off again on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Southpaw Hobbs Johnson (4-5, 2.94) will get the start for the 'Tees against righty Domingo Tapia (1-4, 4.42) of the Mets. Brevard County Box Score Great game for Jorge Lopez. Eight innings, four hits, and just the one unearned run. It's been exciting to see his development so far this season. And what about the job Dave Chavarria has done with that Manatees staff as a whole. The Manatees are second to only Dunedin in most pitching statistics in the FSL. Jose Sermo picked up his first home run of the season, playing his sixth straight game in place of Victor Roache who was still out of commission. Nathan Orf doubled and was hit twice by pitches and Alfredo Rodriguez drew a pair of walks and stole three bases. Brevard County Play-By-Play Brevard County Bottom of the 3rd Jose Sermo homers (1) on a fly ball to right field. Nathan Orf doubles (8) on a line drive to center fielder Brandon Nimmo. Final: Tampa 5, Brevard County 7 Seven-run second paces Brevard past Tampa Bradley earns fifth win, Berberet goes 4-for-4 as 'Tees hold on for 7-5 win By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees http://brevardcounty.manatees.milb.com/assets/images/6/8/6/76848686/cuts/Berberet_5.25_640x360_4lsr3red_usntyu0k.jpgBrevard County catcher Parker Berberet went 4-for-4 with two doubles, as the Manatees defeated the Tampa Yankees, 7-5 on Sunday evening at Space Coast Stadium in Viera. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - An explosive second inning was all the Brevard County Manatees needed to beat the Tampa Yankees on Sunday evening at Space Coast Stadium, as they scored seven runs in the frame, en route to a 7-5 victory. Brevard's big inning started with a bang from Mike Garza. He ripped a line drive to right field that just evaded the diving glove of Yankees' center fielder Jake Cave and rolled to the wall for a triple. Yadiel Rivera quickly drove him home with a single for the first run of the game. The inning kept going after Brandon Macias was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Parker Berberet then delivered his first hit of what would end up being a 4-for-4 day, with an RBI double that scored Rivera. Jose Sermo then made the score 3-0 with a sacrifice fly. Nathan Orf then got in on the action, as his RBI single scored Berberet to extend the Manatees lead. Orlando Arcia then singled to put runners on second and third before Tyrone Taylor hit a sacrifice fly to give the 'Tees a 5-0 advantage. Alfredo Rodriguez was the ninth man to come to the dish for Brevard County (25-24) in the second inning and he did not disappoint. He singled to right field and Arcia raced to third base. Tampa right fielder Jose Toussen threw toward third, but his throw skipped past third baseman Dante Bichette, Jr. and out of play. Arcia scored on the error and Rodriguez moved to third. The man who started the rally then plated the final run of the inning, as Garza dribbled a ball toward shortstop that Cito Culver gloved on the backhand side. Culver attempted a jump throw to first, but it pulled first baseman Greg Bird off the bag. Rodriguez scored from third on the infield single and the Manatees took a 7-0 lead. Brevard County's offensive onslaught in the second came on the strength of seven hits, two of them for extra bases and one Yankees' error. Brevard also added a pair of sacrifice flies. The Yankees scored their first run of the ballgame in the fourth inning on their fifth home run of the series, as Bichette hit his sixth long ball of the year and second of the series. The solo shot to right against Brevard starter Jed Bradley (5-2, 2.98 ERA) made it a 7-1 game. Tampa (26-24) snuck across another run in the fifth. After Claudio Custodio hit a one-out single, he stole second and moved to third on a fly ball to right field. That brought up Bird, who singled home Custodio with Tampa's second run. The seventh inning was where the Yankees began to mount a comeback. Custodio delivered another one-out single and Cave followed with a single of his own. With runners on first and second, Culver singled home Custodio, as Brevard's lead was now cut to 7-3. Chad Pierce came out of the bullpen to relieve Bradley at that point with runners on the corners and one out. Pierce walked Bird and Bichette singled to left to score Cave. Culver was content to stop at third on the play, but the ball rolled under the glove of Sermo in left field and Culver came in to score on the error. Pierce would work out of the jam as he struck out Zach Wilson and got Toussen to fly out to right field to end the inning. The reliever also pitched a perfect eighth and came back out for the ninth to attempt his first save of the season. Though he worked into a dangerous situation in the ninth, Pierce was able to dodge trouble and earn the save. Cave singled to lead things off and Bird hit a one-out single to put runners on the corners. The tying run was on base and the go-ahead run was at the plate, but Pierce struck out Bichette and induced a fly out to foul territory in right off the bat of Zach Wilson to end the game. The save was Pierce's third of his professional career. Bradley earned the victory, as he allowed five runs - four earned -on nine hits and one walk. The left-hander also struck out six men, including five in the first three innings. All of the Manatees' runs came against Tampa starting pitcher Rafael De Paula (1-2, 4.04). He exited after the second inning and took the loss. Brevard County will enjoy an off-day on Memorial Day before returning to action on Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m. at Space Coast Stadium. The 'Tees will host the St. Lucie Mets (30-20) for a pair on Tuesday and Wednesday before heading to Port St. Lucie for two games on Thursday and Friday. Jorge Lopez (5-2, 3.72) will get the start for Brevard County against St. Lucie's Michael Fulmer (2-3, 4.83). (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - The Tampa Yankees scored all of its runs on three homers to defeat the Brevard County Manatees, 4-1 in the first game of Saturday night's doubleheader at Space Coast Stadium. The Yanks did not waste time getting on the board. With two outs and one on in the first, Dante Bichette, Jr. hit a two-run homer to right field and Matt Snyder made it back-to-back jacks with a solo shot to right. Two innings later, Greg Bird went deep. Bird skied a solo home run over the right field wall with two outs to give Tampa a 4-0 lead. Brevard County (23-24) scored its only run of the game in the third inning. Mike Garza drilled a double over the head of right fielder Zach Wilson. Garza then moved to third on a groundout and Nathan Orf followed by working a walk to put runners on the corners. Orlando Arcia came up next and hit a high chopper to third base. Bichette charged, made a barehanded play and threw Arcia out at first base. However, Garza came home to put the Manatees on the board. Tampa lefty starter Dan Camarena (4-3, 2.36 ERA) earned his second win against the Manatees in 2014. He only allowed one run and two-hit the 'Tees over six innings of work. The southpaw struck out four and walked four. Phil Wetherell picked up his second save of the year. Despite a leadoff single by Garza, Wetherell induced three ground outs to his middle infielders to seal the win for Tampa. With the win, the Yankees (26-22) extended their winning streak to five games. Manatees' starter Damien Magnifico (3-4, 2.28) took the loss. He surrendered four runs, but only three were earned because an error in the first inning that ultimately led to the Yankees' back-to-back homers. Magnifico gave up six hits, walked one and struck out four, as the Manatees suffered their fifth straight loss. Garza led the way at the plate for Brevard County, as he went 2-for-3 with a double and scored Brevard's lone run. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees were not afraid to employ small ball, as they scored six runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Tampa Yankees, 8-2 in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader at Space Coast Stadium. Brevard County (24-24) pulled off a pair of successful safety squeezes, including one that scored the eventual game-winning run, as Parker Berberet pushed across the deciding run in the sixth. With the game tied 2-2, the 'Tees had runners on the corners with one out. Berberet bunted toward first base and Mike Garza sprinted home. Yankees' first baseman Greg Bird fielded with his bare hand and delivered a backhand flip home, but Garza slid around the tag of catcher Trent Garrison to give Brevard County the lead. The 'Tees added five more runs that inning on three consecutive RBI hits. Nathan Orf was the first to add insurance, as he grounded a sharp single up the middle with the bases loaded to score both Yadiel Rivera and Berberet. Orlando Arcia was the next to deliver with an RBI double to score Jose Sermo. Tyrone Taylor followed that up with a two-run single, as Orf and Arcia scored on the base hit to give the 'Tees an 8-2 lead. The Manatees had bunted twice in the fifth to take their first lead of the game. Brevard County entered the inning down 1-0, but rallied quickly with back-to-back singles by Rivera and Berberet. Sermo then dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move the tying and go-ahead runs into scoring position, respectively. With Orf at the plate, Tampa's starting pitcher Chaz Hebert delivered a wild pitch that skipped to the right of Garrison. Rivera scored from third to tie the game, 1-1. Orf then worked a walk that forced Hebert out of the game, as the Yankees (26-23) called on righty Kyle Haynes out of the bullpen. Arcia was the first man Haynes faced and the second baseman pushed a bunt toward first. Bird's only play was to first base, but his flip to Haynes was not in time to get Arcia. Berberet sprinted home from third and the Manatees took a 2-1 lead. Tampa scored its first run in the first inning on a home run to right field by Cito Culver. The Yankees' other run was in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Dante Bichette, Jr., that plated Culver. However, Brevard County doubled off Bird at first on that sacrifice fly on double play that went from Orf to Rivera to Garza at first. Austin Ross (3-0, 3.31 ERA) made his first start of the season for the 'Tees and picked up the win. He allowed two runs on four hits over six innings. The right-hander struck out five and walked one. The Manatees and Yankees will close out their three-game set on Sunday, beginning at 5:05 p.m. Southpaw Jed Bradley (4-2, 2.67) will get the nod for Brevard County and righty Rafael De Paula (1-1, 2.90) will start for Tampa. Final: Brevard County 2, Palm Beach 4 Sixth inning dooms 'Tees again as Cards complete sweep By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees JUPITER, Fla. - For the second straight game, the Palm Beach Cardinals exploded offensively in the sixth inning as the Brevard County Manatees fell 4-2 on Friday night at Roger Dean Stadium and were subsequently swept in the four-game set. Already up 1-0 entering the inning, Luke Voit stepped up to the plate against Manatees' starter Tyler Wagner (3-3, 2.05 ERA) with one out. Voit, who delivered the walk-off base hit against Brevard on Tuesday, slammed the first pitch he saw from Wagner to deep left-center field. Voit's solo shot cleared the wall just to the left of the videoboard, to extend the Cardinals' (22-26) lead to 2-0. After striking out Starlin Rodriguez for the second out, Wagner issued a walk to Bruce Caldwell to continue the bottom of the sixth. Casey Rasmus stepped up to the dish and on the very first pitch, cranked a line drive down the right field line. Caldwell hustled around third to score as Rasmus' triple pushed Palm Beach's advantage to three. The RBI base knock by the Rasmus brought home the third earned run against Wagner, making it the first time any team had done that against the right-hander this year. Wagner, who has not won a start since April 14, allowed those three runs on five hits, walked three and struck out five. Brevard rallied in the top of the seventh, but could not tie it up. Back-to-back singles by Tyrone Taylor and Cameron Garfield, neither of which left the infield, put two runners on for Nicky Delmonico. The third baseman sliced a ball into left field to load the bases for Alfredo Rodriguez. The catcher, Rasmus, was unable to corral the first pitch from Cardinals' starter Silfredo Garcia and the ball trickled towards the backstop. Taylor broke from third to score the Manatees' (23-23) first run and made it a 3-1 game. The next three pitches to Rodriguez were also outside the zone to load the bases, yet again. That spelled the end for Garcia as reliever Sam Tuivailala was called upon to get the Cards out of the jam. The first batter Tuivailala faced - Yadiel Rivera - skied one to center field, but it was tracked down by Charlie Tilson, who made a shoestring grab for the first out. Garfield tagged and scored easily from third, but the same did not hold true for Delmonico. He was gunned down for the second out, while trying to advance to third on the play, thus ending the rally. Those were the only runs Brevard County would push across as Garcia picked up the win in his second Florida State League start. The right-hander carried a one-hitter into the sixth and finished the night by allowing two runs on five hits, one walk and fanning five. Palm Beach tacked on an insurance run off Brevard County reliever Mike Strong in the seventh inning. After retiring the first two batters of the frame with ease, Nick Martini slapped a double to left-center to get a runner in scoring position. Breyvic Valera, a .342 hitter, followed that with a single lined into right to score Martini. Chris Thomas, who had picked up six saves with Class-A Peoria before being called up, recorded his first save with Palm Beach by retiring Brevard County in order in the top of the ninth. Orlando Arcia was one of the bright spots for the Manatees offensively. The shortstop finished up the series with another multi-hit performance, including a double in the first inning. Arcia recorded a hit in all four games against Palm Beach, as he went 7-for-16 in the series. For the second straight game, Brevard County was missing a couple of key players in their lineup. Victor Roache and Garrett Cooper were not in the lineup, as both players have been under the weather with flu-like symptoms. The Manatees will look to end their four-game skid on Saturday night as they return home to host a doubleheader against the Tampa Yankees (25-22) at Space Coast Stadium. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 5:05 p.m., with the second game starting 30 minutes after the first game's completion. Damien Magnifico (3-3, 2.37), who threw a complete game, two-hit shutout against Jupiter in his last start on Monday, gets the start for Brevard in game one. Lefty Dan Camarena (3-3, 2.47) will get the start in the first matchup for Tampa. Right-hander Austin Ross (2-0, 3.38) is slated to go for the Manatees in the second game. Tampa has yet to name a starter for game two. Brevard County Box Score Orlando Arcia has been one of the lone bright spots offensively the past few games for Brevard. His 2-for-4 tonight gives him seven hits in the last four games. For a team loaded with prospects, the Manatees offense has really struggled to get going this year. They rank near the bottom of the Florida State League in most offensive categories and have a team batting average of just .239. Tyler Wagner's three runs over six innings will go down as another quality start for him, but he was charged with the loss and is now 3-3 despite an ERA of just 2.05. Brevard County Play-By-Play The Manatees had a chance to tie the game up in the seventh, but ran themselves out of what could have been a bigger inning. Brevard County Top of the 7th Tyrone Taylor singles on a ground ball to third baseman Bruce Caldwell. Cameron Garfield singles on a ground ball to second baseman Breyvic Valera. Tyrone Taylor to 2nd. Nick Delmonico singles on a line drive to left fielder Starlin Rodriguez. Tyrone Taylor to 3rd. Cameron Garfield to 2nd. With Alfredo Rodriguez batting, passed ball by Casey Rasmus, Tyrone Taylor scores. Cameron Garfield to 3rd. Nick Delmonico to 2nd. Alfredo Rodriguez walks. Pitching Change: Samuel Tuivailala replaces Silfredo Garcia. Yadiel Rivera flies into a sacrifice double play, center fielder Charlie Tilson to third baseman Bruce Caldwell. Cameron Garfield scores. Nick Delmonico out at 3rd. Mike Garza lines out to second baseman Breyvic Valera.

Final: Brevard County 1, Palm Beach 7 Brevard's bats quiet in 7-1 loss to Palm Beach By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees JUPITER, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees struggled to push runs across once again, as they scored one run on four hits in a 7-1 loss to the Palm Beach Cardinals on Thursday afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium. The Cardinals (21-26) were spearheaded by another fantastic performance by a starting pitcher. Left-hander Kyle Helisek (2-2, 2.62 ERA) was phenomenal as he allowed just one base-hit - a bunt single by Orlando Arcia in the fourth - over a season-high seven innings. The former Villanova Wildcat allowed only one other baserunner, when he issued walk to Nathan Orf in the fourth. Palm Beach wasted no time jumping out to an early lead, as they scored runs in the first and second innings. Breyvic Valera led off the ballgame with a walk and advanced to third after a sacrifice bunt and a fly out to right. Luke Voit then stepped to the plate and on a two-strike pitch, fought off an inside fastball from Manatees' starter Hobbs Johnson (4-5, 2.94) into center field for an RBI single to give the Cardinals the lead, 1-0. The Cards pushed another run across with two outs in the second. Ildemaro Vargas singled to start the inning and advanced to second a wild pitch. After a line out and a strike out, Luis Perez stepped in against Johnson. On the first pitch he saw, Perez grounded one through the hole on the right side for a base-hit. Vargas motored home from second to extend the Palm Beach lead to two. It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth when the Cards blew the game wide open. A single by Starlin Rodriguez and a walk to Voit put two runners on to start the inning, setting up a situation for a sacrifice bunt. Alex Mejia squared and bunted the ball right back to Johnson, but the starter could not make an accurate throw on to first. His delivery was low and in the dirt, as Mike Garza tried to make the scoop, but could not. Rodriguez hustled home from second on the throwing error to increase the lead to 3-0. It would only get worse from there as Vargas singled to left to load the bases. That spelled the end of the day for Johnson as right-hander Kevin Shackelford - who was just added to the roster from Double-A Huntsville a day prior - was called upon to try and get Brevard out of the jam. Shackelford forced Jesus Montero to ground into a fielder's choice, which brought another run home from third, to get the first out, but the Cardinals bats would continue to pounce. David Washington followed with an RBI double to right and with two outs, Valera blooped a two-run single to left to balloon the lead up to 7-0. Palm Beach almost increased the lead further with a single by Nick Martini, but Tyrone Taylor gunned out Valera trying to score from second to end the inning. The Manatees (23-22) would tack on their only run of the game in the top of the eighth inning off reliever Kyle Barraclough. Nicky Delmonico and Alfredo Rodriguez started the frame with back-to-back singles and with one out Parker Berberet delivered. The catcher crushed a his first double to right-center field, to score Delmonico and cut the lead to 7-1. That is all that would come across as the 'Tees stranded runners at second and third. Barraclough struck out Jose Sermo and Orf consecutively to end the threat. Johnson, who had won his last two outings entering today, was saddled with the loss this afternoon. The Brewers' 14th round pick from a year ago issued six runs (four earned) on five hits, walked three and struck out three over five innings. Brevard County will attempt to salvage the final game of this four-game series on Friday, when they wrap things up against the Palm Beach Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Tyler Wagner (3-2, 1.76) will try and end the three-game skid for the Manatees. Silfredo Garcia (0-1, 5.40) gets the call for Palm Beach to make his second start since being added to the roster. Brevard County Box Score The Manatees bats didn't wake up for the early AM start. Four hits and Parker Berberet's double was the only one that went for extra bases. Orlando Arcia's bunt single was the only BC hit on the board going to the eighth inning and the game was pretty much out of hand by that point. Having so many guys out of the lineup surely didn't help. Final: Brevard County 3, Palm Beach 4 'Tees come up short in 3-2 loss to Cards Roache hits team-leading seventh homer in defeat By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/3/4/6/74367346/cuts/Roache_4.15_640x360_tlhvsmhy_gpksg11b.jpg Brevard County left fielder Victor Roache - seen here in a game from earlier this season - went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a homer and two RBI, in a 4-3 to the Palm Beach Cardinals on Wednesday night at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter. Roache currently leads the 'Tees with seven homers. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) JUPITER, Fla. - Despite three hits from Victor Roache - including two doubles and a home run - and another three hits from Orlando Arcia, the Brevard County Manatees dropped their second straight game, as they fell 4-3 to the Palm Beach Cardinals on Wednesday night at Roger Dean Stadium. The Cardinals (20-26) grabbed their only lead of the game in the bottom half of the sixth inning against Major League rehabber Tom Gorzelanny. After retiring the first two batters of the inning, Starlin Rodriguez came up to the plate and went ahead in the count, 2-0. The next pitch to Rodriguez was rocketed down the left field line, chasing Roache into the corner. The ball would continue to carry and ricochet off the foul pole for Rodriguez's second home run of the game. That gave Palm Beach a 4-3 lead that they would never relinquish. The blow came after Brevard County (23-21) missed a major opportunity in the top of half of the inning. Arcia started the frame with a single and Tyrone Taylor followed by drawing a walk. Cameron Garfield then came to the plate and hit a ground ball to the third baseman Bruce Caldwell, who was playing close to the line. Caldwell stepped on the bag, then spun and fired to Breyvic Valera at second, who then relayed the throw to Luke Voit at first for a triple play. The around-the-horn triple killing got Palm Beach starter Joe Cuda (1-5, 8.07) out of the frame and kept the ball game tied. Brevard missed another key opportunity to the tie or take the lead in the eighth. Yadiel Rivera led off with a single to left and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Nathan Orf. Arcia followed with a single to left of his own, but Rivera held at third with the left fielder Rodriguez charging on the play. Arcia proceeded to steal second, but both he and Rivera would not advance any further. Cardinals' reliever Aidan Lucas struck out Taylor and then got Garfield to ground out to short to strand the runners. The missed chances came after the Manatees had grabbed the lead twice in the early portion of the game. Brevard jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a solo shot by Roache, his team-leading seventh home run of the year, but Palm Beach responded with Rodriguez's first homer of the game to tie it up. The 'Tees took the lead again in the fourth with the help of Roache and a defensive mistake. Arcia reached on a bunt single and advanced into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Taylor. Garfield followed with a walk, bringing Nicky Delmonico to the plate. Delmonico would lift a fly ball deep into the corner in right, but it was run down by Nick Martini. Arcia broke for third as Martini's throw came in, however no one was there to cut it off. The ball rolled into foul territory down the third base line as Arcia turned third and headed for home to give Brevard the lead again, 2-1. Roache kept the rally going with an RBI double to right-center to push the lead to 3-1. Palm Beach responded again in the fifth as they tied the game with nobody out. Martini singled to right and Caldwell walked to start the inning. Both advanced to second and third on a wild pitch by Manatees starter Jorge Lopez (5-2, 3.72). On a 2-0 pitch, David Washington lined a single to left to score both runners and tie the game at three apiece. Washington advanced to third on a ground out, but would not score as Lopez finished his outing with a flourish. The Puerto Rico native struck out both Charlie Tilson and Ildemaro Vargas swinging on nasty sliders tailing towards their back foot to end the inning and keep the game tied. That marked the end of the night for Lopez who did not factor in the decision, thus ending his streak of four consecutive victories. The righty allowed three runs on five hits, walked one and struck out three over five innings. His counterpart, Cuda, pieced together his best start of the year to get his first win of 2014. The St. Petersburg, Fla. native went a season-high seven innings and issued three runs on five hits, walked two and struck out three. Gorzelanny, who gave up the go-ahead homer to Rodriguez, took the loss in his final scheduled rehab appearance with Brevard County. The dinger was the only blemish for Gorzelanny as he retired the other six batters he faced, including striking out the last four hitters in a row. The Manatees will try to get back in the win column when they battle Palm Beach again at 10:35 a.m. on Thursday at Roger Dean Stadium. Southpaw Hobbs Johnson (4-4, 2.45), who is looking for his third straight win, will get the start for Brevard County. Fellow left-hander Kyle Helisek (1-2, 3.11) will get the call for the Cardinals. Brevard County Box Score Victor Roache and Orlando Arcia combined for six of Brevard's eight hits. Roache had a pair of doubles and his team leading seventh home run, while Arcia picked up three singles. The only other Manatee hits came on singles by Nicky Delmonico and Yadiel Rivera. Rivera has quietly recorded hits in eight of his last nine games. Jorge Lopez pitched okay, going five innings and allowing three runs. Not his best start of the year, but not bad either. Brevard County Play-By-Play Brevard County Top of the 2nd Cameron Garfield strikes out swinging. Nick Delmonico pops out to third baseman Bruce Caldwell in foul territory. Victor Roache homers (7) on a fly ball to left field. Brandon Macias grounds out, pitcher Joe Cuda to first baseman Luke Voit. Brevard County Top of the 4th Orlando Arcia singles on a bunt ground ball to third baseman Bruce Caldwell. Tyrone Taylor out on a sacrifice bunt, pitcher Joe Cuda to first baseman Luke Voit. Final: Brevard County 0, Palm Beach 1 (11 Innings) Bradley's brilliant performance wasted in 11-inning loss Brevard falls to Palm Beach on walk-off in series opener By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees JUPITER, Fla. - Despite Jed Bradley putting together the best start of his professional career, the Brevard County Manatees fell 1-0, in walk-off fashion to the Palm Beach Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium on Tuesday night. On a 0-2 pitch, Bruce Caldwell singled to right field off Manatees' reliever Stephen Peterson. With the winning run on base and nobody out, Brevard third baseman Nicky Delmonico played in on the grass, expecting a bunt from Breyvic Valera. However, Valera elected not to sacrifice. He chopped one over the head of Delmonico into left field and put the winning run in scoring position. Ildemaro Vargas proceeded to sacrifice the runners to second and third and the Manatees (23-20) countered by intentionally walking Starlin Rodriguez to load the bases. Peterson jumped ahead in the count 1-2 on Luke Voit, but things took a turn for the worst. Voit, who was playing in his first game with the club, lined the next pitch into center field to score Caldwell and give the Cardinals (19-26) the victory. The heart-crushing ending put a damper on an absolutely brilliant performance by Bradley (4-2, 2.67 ERA). The Brewers' first-round pick in 2011 twirled his best outing of the year and of his pro career. The left-hander did not allow a run over a career-high nine innings, while allowing four hits and striking out three without walking a batter. Bradley's control was spot on as the former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket only reached one three-ball count to the 31 batters he faced. Bradley's performance was another in a long line of amazing outings put together by the Manatees' pitching staff. Over the course of their current five-game road trip, Brevard County's starters have a 0.25 ERA, allowing just two runs - one earned - over 36 innings. Bradley remained poised when Palm Beach put runners in scoring position. After a Rodriguez double and an Alex Mejia single in the fourth, Bradley induced a double play ball off the bat of Nick Martini to get out of the frame. The left-hander had to tight rope through a similar situation in the ninth. Valera, who led off the inning with a single, advanced to third with two outs on a sacrifice bunt and a ground out to second. That brought Voit to the plate, who smoked another ground ball up the middle. Yadiel Rivera made an incredible diving stop, got to his feet and made a perfect strike to first to get Brevard out of the inning and into extras. Bradley's counterpart, Thomas Lee (4-2, 2.93), matched him stride-by-stride. Lee, who went undrafted out of Sonoma State, threw eight scoreless innings in the no decision. The right-hander allowed three hits and struck out three, without walking a batter. Lee wasn't the only Cardinal pitcher who dominated the Manatees' hitters. As a team, Brevard mustered just three hits on the night, all singles by Orlando Arcia, Tyrone Taylor, and Rivera. Arcia's single in the sixth was the last hit for the 'Tees as their final 16 batters were retired in a row. The Manatees will battle the Cardinals again on Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. in the second game of a four-game set. Brevard County will turn to right-hander Jorge Lopez (5-2, 3.51), who is looking for his fifth consecutive victory. Palm Beach will counter with fellow righty Joe Cuda (0-5, 9.10). Brevard County Box Score Brevard County Play-By-Play Brevard's only real chance to get anything going was wiped out when nathan Orf grounded into a double play Brevard County Top of the 6th Yadiel Rivera singles on a ground ball to center fielder Nick Martini. Nathan Orf grounds into a double play, shortstop Alex Mejia to second baseman Breyvic Valera to first baseman Luke Voit. Yadiel Rivera out at 2nd. Final: Brevard County 1, Jupiter 0 Magnificent Magnifico dominant in 'Tees 1-0 win By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees JUPITER, Fla. -- The Brevard County Manatees did not need much offensive help on Monday morning as starting pitcher Damien Magnifico put together the best start of his professional career, in a complete game, two-hit shutout in the Manatees, 1-0 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Stadium. Magnifico (3-3, 2.37 ERA), whose previous career-high was six innings on three separate occasions, allowed only four batters to reach base on two singles, a walk, and a fielding error. The right-hander was even better in the few occasions Jupiter put a runner on. Magnifico induced a double play ball after a single in the second and an inning-ending fielder's choice after a walk in the third. The Mesquite, Texas native also did not allow any of his four baserunners to get past first base. The former Oklahoma Sooner thrived as the game moved along, as well. Magnifico retired 11 of the final 12 Hammerheads' (20-24) hitters, with the only exception being a single by Austin Barnes in the seventh. Magnifico's amazing performance was the first complete game shutout by a Manatee since Drew Gagnon did it on August 28, 2012 in Lakeland. It was also the first nine-inning complete game shutout since April 28, 2009 when Evan Anundsen no-hit the Daytona Cubs at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. Despite squandering some early inning scoring opportunities, including loading the bases with one out in the second, the Manatees (23-19) got the only run they needed in the top of the sixth. Tyrone Taylor led off the frame with a line drive single to center. With Cameron Garfield at the plate, it seemed like Taylor had run himself into a disaster. Taylor took an extended lead towards second when he saw a breaking ball from Jupiter starter Scott Lyman (3-3, 1.61) tail into the dirt. The catcher, Barnes, noticed and made a snap throw towards first to pick off Taylor. As Viosergy Rosa chased him towards second, the first baseman's throw went high and wide of the shortstop Terrence Dayleg, who was covering the bag. The throwing error allowed Taylor to advance to second with nobody out. After Garfield struck out, Nicky Delmonico walked, bringing Victor Roache to the plate. After a three-hit performance on Sunday, Roache came through with the game's biggest base-hit. The left fielder snuck a ground ball through a hole on the right-side of the infield to score Taylor and give Brevard County the lead, 1-0. That one run was all the 'Tees were to push across as Lyman, who was named Florida State League Pitcher of the Week during the game, took his third loss of the year. The right-hander allowed the one unearned run on eight hits, walked one and struck out six over six innings. The Manatees will remain at Roger Dean Stadium for another four games as they take on the ballpark's other occupant, the Palm Beach Cardinals (18-25), at 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday. Brevard County will look to two-time FSL Pitcher of the Week, Jed Bradley (4-2, 3.20) to keep them on the winning track. The Cardinals will counter with right-hander Thomas Lee (4-2, 3.55). Brevard County Box Score This has to go down as Damien Magnifico's best start of his pro career. As mentioned in the game story, he hadn't gone more than six innings in any outing through the past three seasons. They mentioned on the radio broadcast that Magnifico was still hitting 95 in the eighth inning as well. The Manatees offense managed eight hits, but all were singles. Victor Roache went 2-for-4 and knocked in the only run. Tyrone Taylor had the only other multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 and scored the lone run. Nicky Delmonico walked and singled. Brevard County Play-By-Play Not much offense in this one, just the lone BC run, but check out the full play-by-play to see the dominance of Magnifico. Brevard County Top of the 6th Tyrone Taylor singles on a line drive to center fielder Cameron Flynn. With Cameron Garfield batting, Tyrone Taylor picked off and caught stealing 2nd base, Tyrone Taylor to 2nd. throwing error by Viosergy Rosa. Cameron Garfield strikes out swinging. Nick Delmonico walks. Victor Roache singles on a ground ball to right fielder Jesus Solorzano. Tyrone Taylor scores. Nick Delmonico to 2nd. Brandon Macias grounds into a double play, shortstop Terrence Dayleg to second baseman Anthony Gomez to first baseman Viosergy Rosa. Victor Roache out at 2nd.

Final: Brevard County 2, Jupiter 3 Jupiter stun 'Tees in walk-off fashion, 3-2 By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees JUPITER, Fla. - After the Brevard County Manatees missed an opportunity to take the lead in the top of the inning, Ryan Goetz delivered a walk-off, RBI single in the Jupiter Hammerheads, 3-2 victory at Roger Dean Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Josh Adams led off the frame for Jupiter by serving the first pitch of the inning from Chad Pierce into center field for a single. Noah Perio sacrificed him to second on a bunt, to put a runner in scoring position with one out. Blake Barber would come in to pinch-run for the catcher Adams and advance to third base on a wild pitch by Pierce. With the infield in, Goetz served a blooper into shallow left field to score Barber and give the Hammerheads (20-23) the walk-off win. The Manatees (22-19) had a chance to grab the lead in the top of the ninth as Jupiter reliever Reid Redman, who would go on to pick up the victory, plunked Tyrone Taylor to start the inning. With one out, Alfredo Rodriguez lined a single to right to put runners at first and second. After a wild pitch by Redman advanced both runners to second and third, the righty settled down. Redman retired Victor Roache on a pop out to short and got Yadiel Rivera to hit a lazy fly ball to center to keep the game tied. Jupiter jumped out to an early lead by picking up two runs in the first. After Manatees starter Tyler Wagner (3-2, 1.76 ERA) struck out Jesus Solorzano to begin the game, but then the wheels fell off for Brevard County defensively. Terrence Dayleg hit a chopper out in front of home plate, however Wagner and catcher Parker Berberet could not decide on who was going to field the ball. Berberet finally took charge, but bobbled the ball and Dayleg reached on the error. Matt Juengel followed by hitting a sharp ground ball to third. Nicky Delmonico could not corral it as the ball kicked off the heel of his glove and down the left field line. Both he and Rivera chased after the ball, which had rolled into foul territory, leaving no one to cover third base. That allowed Dayleg and Juengel to advance to second and third with the heart of the order due up. Unlike the first two games of the series, the Hammerheads came through with runners in scoring position. On three pitches, Viosergy Rosa and Colin Moran roped RBI singles to right and left field, respectively, to give Jupiter and early 2-0 advantage. That was all Wagner surrendered as the right-hander was saddled with another no decision. He allowed just those two runs - one earned - on four hits, walked one and struck out three over six innings of work. Brevard County would find a way to chip away at the lead. In the fourth inning, Taylor led off by smacking his Professional Baseball-leading 20th double of the year down the left field line. Taylor then came across to score on a pair of ground outs by Delmonico and Rodriguez to cut the Jupiter lead in half. The Manatees were able to finally tie the game in the seventh inning off Hammerheads' starter Josh Hodges (0-4, 7.69). After Rodriguez was hit by a pitch with one out, Roache grounded one down the third base line. The ball kicked off the bag and caromed towards the Jupiter bullpen. Rodriguez was able to hustle home from first to score the game-tying run as Roache rolled into second base with the RBI double, his third hit of the game. Much like Wagner, those were the only two runs Hodges would allow. The right-hander, who had surrendered at least five runs in six of eight outings entering this afternoon, put together arguably his best start of the season. Hodges went a season-high seven innings, allowed four hits, walked one and struck out two, while lowering his ERA almost a full run. Brevard County will look to take the series tomorrow morning when they wrap up their four-game series against Jupiter with first pitch scheduled for 10:35 a.m. The Manatees will rely upon righty Damien Magnifico (2-3, 2.90) to get the team back on the winning track. Jupiter will call on fellow right-hander Scott Lyman (3-2, 1.80), who is seventh in the Florida State League in earned run average. Brevard County Box Score Another good start from Tyler Wagner. Six innings with two runs allowed and only one was earned. Kind of odd that he only went 75 pitches but I guess they had to get Gorzelanny his innings. Victor Roache had a nice 3-for-4 day with a double. He's still batting under .200 but leads the Manatees in home runs and runs batted in. It would be nice to see his average start to climb a little bit after his slow start. Tyrone Taylor picked up another double, his 20th of the season. I've listened to a good amount of Manatees games this year and it seems like a lot of his doubles have come on ground balls down the line. So while the extra base hits are great, they may not translate to home runs down the road the way they do for a lot of young doubles hitters. Brevard County Play-By-Play The Manatees picked up a run in the fourth and another in the seventh. Final: Brevard County 2, Jupiter 0 Big seventh inning leads 'Tees to 2-0 win Brevard blanks Jupiter for second straight game By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/0/8/72598208/cuts/Johnson_4.18_1_640x360_1o4qbjo6_2i8vsv7m.jpg Brevard County starting pitcher Hobbs Johnson, seen here in a game from earlier this season, struck out five in six scoreless innings of work as the Manatees blanked the Jupiter Hammerheads, 2-0 at Roger Dean Stadium on Friday night. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) JUPITER, Fla. - With no score going into seventh inning, the Brevard County Manatees rallied for the games only runs in a 2-0 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads on Saturday night at Roger Dean Stadium. With one out in the inning, Alfredo Rodriguez lifted a fly ball down the right field line. Jupiter right fielder Jesus Solorzano hustled towards the foul line and made a feet-first, sliding attempt to try and make the catch. The ball dropped in front of him and Rodriguez would motor into second with his second double of the year and second hit of the night. Rodriguez advanced to third on a Garrett Cooper fly out to right, which then brought up Yadiel Rivera with two outs. After struggling at the plate at the beginning of the year, Rivera came through with his second big hit in as many nights. The shortstop roped a double into the right field corner, to score Rodriguez with ease and give Brevard (22-18) a 1-0 lead. Nathan Orf, who had already singled and reached on an error, followed by lining a single to center to bring home Rivera and push Brevard County's lead to two. Those two runs would be all that the Manatees needed as their pitching shutout the Hammerheads' bats for the second consecutive evening. 'Tees starter Hobbs Johnson (4-4, 2.45 ERA), who was coming off a career-high in innings pitched and strikeouts last Saturday in Daytona, battled through a shaky first inning to hold Jupiter (19-23) scoreless over six innings. The University of North Carolina product allowed five hits, two walks, and struck out five for his second consecutive victory. Johnson gave way to Martin Viramontes was just as impressive in relief. Viramontes picked up his first save of the season as he allowed just one hit, one walk and struck out three in three innings of work. Those two base runners reached in the ninth inning as the Viramontes forced the sixth overall pick in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, Colin Moran, to fly out to left to end the ball game. Combined, Johnson and Viramontes held the Hammerheads hitless with runners in scoring position (0-for-6) and did not allow a single base runner to reach third base. Jupiter wasted another stellar performance by right-hander Trevor Williams, who came into tonight a winner in his last four starts. Williams threw six scoreless innings and allowed four hits, while walking two and striking out four. Left-handed reliever Frankie Reed surrendered both of the Manatees' runs in the seventh inning. Reed issued three hits and struck out one without walking a batter in two innings of relief. The Manatees will try to take the series against the Hammerheads on Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Brevard County will call on right-hander Tyler Wagner (3-2, 1.80), who is looking for his first victory since April 14. Righty Scott Hodges (0-4, 8.61), who has surrendered at least five runs in six of his eight outings, will get the start for Jupiter. Brevard County Box Score Alfredo Rodriguez and Yadiel Rivera each doubled for the only Manatees extra-base hits. It was part of a 2-for-4 night for Rodriguez. Nathan Orf also had a 2-for-4 game while Nicky Delmonico went 1-for-3 with a walk. What more can you say about the Brevard pitching staff so far this season? As a whole, they've been terrific, and tonight was no different. Hobbs Johnson pitched six scoreless to earn his fourth win. He struck out five. Martin Viramontes pitched the final three innings and gave up just one hit to earn his first save of the year. Final: Brevard County 4, Jupiter 1 Brevard breaks three-game slide Garfield, Lopez lead Manatees past Hammerheads in 4-1 victory By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees JUPITER, Fla. - Behind another stellar performance by Jorge Lopez and a big, two-out hit by Cameron Garfield, the Brevard County Manatees ended their three-game losing streak by defeating the Jupiter Hammerheads, 4-1 at Roger Dean Stadium on Friday night. With the game scoreless in the top of the sixth inning, the Manatees (21-18) got a lead-off single by Nathan Orf. The next batter, Orlando Arcia, hit a tailor-made double play ball to short. The Manatees though managed to stay out of the twin killing as Orf took off on the pitch, to put a runner at second with one out. A fly out by Tyrone Taylor advanced Orf to third with two outs for Garfield. On the first pitch he saw, Garfield roped a double down the left field line to score Orf and put Brevard County in front, 1-0. However, it looked the lead might be short lived. With one on and two out in the bottom of the inning, Lopez (5-2, 3.51 ERA) worked himself into a bit of a jam. On a 2-0 pitch, Austin Barnes singled to center, which was followed by a five-pitch walk to Colin Moran. The right-hander buckled down and struck out Jesus Solorzano on three pitches to end the frame and leave the bases loaded. That capped off Lopez's night. The former second round pick recorded his fourth consecutive victory, as he shut out the Hammerheads (19-22) on five hits, walked two and striked out five over six innings. The victory ties Lopez for the Florida State League lead with five victories. The 'Tees rode the momentum of Lopez's inning-ending strikeout into the top of the seventh. With one out, Alfredo Rodriguez singled, stole second base and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. With the infield drawn in, Garrett Cooper would ground a ball back up the middle and past the glove of Noah Perio, extending Brevard's lead to 2-0. Two pitches later, Yadiel Rivera smoked a line drive down the right field line. The shortstop motored into third with an RBI triple - his second three-bagger of the year - to push the 'Tees lead to three. Orf followed with a sacrifice fly, giving Brevard a comfortable 4-0 advantage. Jupiter got their only run of the night in the bottom of the frame. With one out, Perio hit his first home run of the year, well over the right field wall, to cut Brevard's lead to 4-1. Looking to end their skid, closer Tanner Poppe came on in the eighth for a multi-inning save. After walking the first batter he faced, the right-hander retired the next six batters in a row, forcing a ground out back to the mound to end the game. The save is Poppe's ninth of the year, giving him the second most in the FSL. Jupiter's starter Austin Brice (3-4, 4.93) took the loss for the Hammerheads. He tied a career-high by striking out nine Manatee hitters over six innings of work. The righty allowed just one run and four hits on the night. The Manatees and Hammerheads will battle again tomorrow in the second game of this four-game series, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Brevard County will call upon left-hander Hobbs Johnson (3-4, 2.84), who struck out a career-high nine batters in his last outing in Daytona. Fellow 2013 draftee Trevor Williams (5-3, 3.18) will get the start for Jupiter, looking to break his tie with Lopez for the league lead in wins. Brevard County Box Score Jorge Lopez pitched six scoreless innings after going seven innings last time out and only giving up two unearned runs. Tanner Poppe got the two inning save. Aside from one hiccup, he's been outstanding as the Manatees closer. Cameron Garfield singled, doubled and walked in four plate appearances. Yadiel Rivera's triple was the only other extra base hit for Brevard. Alfredo Rodriguez singled, walked and stole a pair of bases.
