  1. Final: Biloxi 4, Mississippi 3 Houser stays perfect as Shuckers stop skid Orlando Arcia continues hit streak with his 46th multi-hit performance Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/7/0/146401270/cuts/8S1A9260_pfn28jxd_41ma3ul6.JPG Adrian Houser upped his scoreless streak to 15 innings with six shutout innings on Sunday (M.K. Krebs) PEARL, MS - The Biloxi Shuckers withstood a late rally by the Mississippi Braves on Sunday night to take game three of a five-game set at Trustmark Park, 4-3. The victory gives Biloxi an 11-10 advantage over Mississippi in the inaugural Magnolia State Rivalry with two games remaining, and moves the Shuckers within two games of first place of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in the second half. Only seven games remain during the 2015 regular season, including five at MGM Park with the Tennessee Smokies. Top Brewers prospects Orlando Arcia and Tyrone Taylor combined to go 5-for-9 on Sunday, with Taylor adding a triple and Arcia extending his franchise-best hitting streak to 14 games. Arcia also tallied his league-leading 46th multi-hit performance. Starter Adrian Houser (4-0) won his fourth-straight start and tossed six shutout innings, increasing his scoreless innings streak to 15 innings. Yhonathan Barrios worked a perfect eighth inning to start his night of relief, but made things interesting in the ninth. A leadoff single by KD Kang followed by a hit-by-pitch of Barrett Kleinknecht put two runners on for Kevin Ahrens, who struck out for the first out of the ninth, but Levi Hyams singled down the left field line to score to score Kang. Steve Rodriguez followed with a RBI single that put runners on the corners and cut the Shuckers lead to one. Matt Kennelly pinch hit for relief pitcher Bryton Trepagnier and grounded into a game-ending 6-4-3 double play and secure the victory for Biloxi. Biloxi (32-30) struck quick against Andrew Thurman, plating two runs in the first. Tyrone Taylor (3x5, RBI, R) started the game with a single and moved up on Arcia's (2x4, R, BB) base hit to extend his hitting streak to 14 games, put runners on first and second for Nathan Orf, (0x2, R, 2 BB) who sacrificed both runners 90 feet. Josh Fellhauer (2x4, 2 RBI, BB) drove the runners home with a double down the right field line to give the Shuckers a two-run advantage after the top of the first. Houser impressed both at the plate and on the mound, starting a two-out rally with the bat in the second by singling to right and scoring on Taylor's triple to center to give the Shuckers a 3-0 lead. Houser collected his first two professional hits going 2-for-3 with a double and run scored. On the mound, Houser continued to work his way through the Braves' lineup. The Oklahoma native did not allow a hit until Mycal Jones singled to start the fourth, one of three in his six innings of work to go along with a walk and three punchouts. In 11.1 innings against Mississippi this season, the 22-year-old has shutout the Braves on seven hits, one free pass and seven strikeouts. Biloxi added onto its lead with Garrett Cooper's (2x4, RBI, BB) RBI single in the fifth, plating Orf for a 4-0 advantage. In his first three games with Biloxi, Cooper is batting .545 (6x11) with two RBI. Manny Barreda allowed a run in the seventh on two hits and a walk, but also struck out two batters. The Shuckers will look to even up the series in game four on Monday night. LHP Josh Hader (1-2, 2.70) takes the mound for Biloxi, while Mississippi will send out RHP Stephen Janas (1-7, 4.65). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. 2. Final: Biloxi 2, Mississippi 8 Arcia sets franchise record by extending hit streak to 13 games in 8-2 loss Garrett Cooper goes 3-for-4 with first Double-A RBI on Saturday night Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/3/4/146210134/cuts/_BRP4265_iceplk1o_aufrv1bg.jpg Parker Berberet slammed his second homer in three games during Saturday's 8-2 loss at Trustmark Park. (Benton Reed Photography) PEARL, MS - The Biloxi Shuckers fell behind early and couldn't make up ground for a second-consecutive night against the Mississippi Braves, dropping game two of the five-game set, 8-2, at Trustmark Park. Biloxi has dropped the first two games by a combined score of 15-3, the worst two-game stretch in the young franchise's history. The loss also ties the season-series between the two teams at 10 wins apiece. Orlando Arcia (1x4, R, 2B) waited until his final at-bat, but hit his league-leading 36th double in the ninth to set a new franchise record with a 13-game hitting streak. The streak passes Nathan Orf's 12-game hit streak from May 25-June 8. Garrett Cooper (3x4, RBI) brought home Arcia, four batters later with his first Double-A, run-scoring hit on a single to left and is now batting .571 (4x7) in two games as a Shucker. The ninth inning outburst only cut the Braves lead to 8-2, which was the final score Drew Gagnon (1-1) made his first start as a Shucker and carried a 8.1 inning scoreless streak into the outing. The 2011 third-round draft pick walked a batter in the first, but would leave the runner stranded, before surrendering three runs in the second. Barrett Kleinknecht singled to start the second for Mississippi. A strikeout to Matt Kennelly gave Gagnon an out, but a walk to Levi Hyams and a single to left by Sean Godfrey plated Kleinknecht. The throw from Nathan Orf (2x4) beat the runner home, but Kleinknecht's slide knocked the ball out of the glove of Parker Berberet, sending the ball into the first-base dugout, allowing Hyams to score as well with Godfrey moving up to third on the error. John Gant struck out for the second out of the inning, but Emerson Landoni singled and scored Godfrey to put Biloxi (31-30) in a three-run deficit. The three-run inning ended Gagnon's scoreless streak at 9.2 innings. The Shuckers got a run back in the fifth on Berberet's (1x4, HR, RBI, R) second homerun of the season and second in his last three games to make it 3-1, but the Braves would get the run back on a RBI single by KD Kang in the bottom-half. Gagnon, making his first start since July 25 while in Triple-A with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, needed 104 pitches to work through five innings. The California native allowed four runs - three earned - on six hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Mississippi (34-27) opened the gates in the sixth against reliever Jacob Barnes, plating four runs on four hits, capped by a three-run double by Rio Ruiz to put the Shuckers in a seven-run hole. Ruiz kept one-ahead of Arcia by extending his hit streak to 14 games. Yhonathan Barrios (IP, 6 pitches) and Damien Magnifico (IP, H, BB, SO) tossed the final two frames and did not allow a run to cross to the plate. Biloxi will look to avoid dropping the series in game three on Sunday night. RHP Adrian Houser (3-0, 2.17) will try to stay perfect as a Shucker, while the Braves will counter with RHP Andrew Thurman (1-2, 3.68). First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m., with coverage beginning at 4:45 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. 3. Final: Biloxi 1, Mississippi 7 Arcia picks up 50th extra-base hit, 45th multi-hit game and extends hit streak in loss to M-Braves Biloxi pitching walks 12 in series opening loss in Pearl Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/8/4/146049284/cuts/BRP_8480_sslvic1c_2gurl9kc.jpg Orlando Arcia went 2-for-4 on Friday night for the Shuckers (Benton Reed Photography) PEARL, MS - The Biloxi Shuckers dropped the opener of a pivotal five-game series against the Mississippi Braves, 7-1, on Friday night at Trustmark Park. The loss drops the Shuckers 3 ½ games behind the first-place Pensacola Blue Wahoos and drops their elimination number down to six at the end of play on Friday night. Biloxi pitching matched a season-high by issuing 12 walks in the game, including seven in 2.2 innings from starter Hobbs Johnson (7-7). The Magnolia State rivalry series tightened up after the loss, as Biloxi leads the season-series, 10-9. Mississippi (33-27) grabbed a quick lead off of Johnson in the first, using a sacrifice fly by Kevin Ahrens to right that scored Emerson Landoni for the 1-0 lead. Biloxi (31-29) tied the game at one in the third. Orlando Arcia (2x4, R) extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a one-out single, tying the franchise record set by Nathan Orf (0x3, RBI) from May 25 to June 7. An errant pickoff throw allowed Arcia to scamper all the way to third, allowing Orf to lift a sacrifice fly to right field to bring home the runner. Arcia would triple in the eighth, giving him his 50th extra-base hit of the season and league-leading 45th multi-hit performance. The tie would not last long as the Braves would take advantage of five walks in the bottom of the third to send in three runs. The big blow of the inning came off the bat of Rio Ruiz, who lifted a three-run homerun over the right-centerfield wall to put the Shuckers in a three-run deficit. Ruiz extended his hitting streak to 13 games, which is the longest actively in the Southern League. Johnson (7-7) set a season-high for walks in a game by a Shuckers' starter with seven. In 2.2 innings, the southpaw allowed four runs on just two hits and did not record a strikeout for the first time this season. The North Carolina native needed 73 pitches to get through his shortest outing since lasting just 2.1 innings against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on April 11. Jed Bradley came on to relieve Johnson with the bases loaded and two outs in the third and got a groundout to second by Steve Rodriguez. In 2.1 innings of relief, the 2011 first-round pick surrendered two runs on two hits, three walks and four strikeouts. Martin Viramontes' name was called next out of the 'pen to start the sixth. The former USC Trojan gave up a hit in his first inning of work. After having the first two reach to start the seventh, Viramontes took a line drive off of his left leg from Ryne Harper and was forced to leave the game with the bases loaded. Manny Barreda took over from that point and got Emerson Landoni to bounce into a double play, scoring Sean Godfrey from third to put the Shuckers in a 7-1 hole. In two innings, the 26-year-old gave up two hits, walked a batter and struck out two. Garrett Cooper (1x3, BB) picked up his first Double-A hit with a lead-off single to right in the seventh. The Shuckers will look to even up the five-game series with a win on Saturday night at Trustmark Park. It has yet to be determined who will make the start for Biloxi, but Mississippi will send out RHP John Gant (3-0, 1.61). First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. 4. Final: Mobile 1, Biloxi 8 Arcia leads offense in an 8-1, rubber match victory over Mobile Tyler Wagner extends scoress-innings streak while picking up 11th win Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/9/7/8/145833978/cuts/8S1A9421_19l0h9b9_de5d35bq.JPG Orlando Arcia tripled, scored three times and went 2-for-3 in the 8-1 win on Thursday (M.K. Krebs) BILOXI, MS – The Biloxi Shuckers hit the ground running and never looked back in Thursday’s, 8-1, rubber match victory over the Mobile BayBears in front of a crowd of 2,244 at MGM Park. Orlando Arcia led the way with his 44th multi-hit game, scoring three times and going 2-for-3 with a triple in the series finale. The contest marked the season finale between the two clubs, with Biloxi taking 13 of the 27 contests. It didn’t take long for Biloxi to attack Mobile starter Gabriel Arias (4-2). A one-out walk to Orlando Arcia (2x3, 2 RBI, 3 R, 3B) put a man on for Nathan Orf (2x5, 3 RBI, R, 2 2B), who doubled to center, scoring Arcia for the 1-0 lead. Tyrone Taylor (2x5, RBI, R, 2B) added his own RBI double to plate Orf two batters later, and Victor Roache (2x4, RBI) singled home Taylor for the third run of the inning. Arcia’s multi-hit performance produced his 44th of the season and extended both his on-base and hitting streaks to a season-high 11 games. He ties teammate, Nathan Orf for the longest hitting streak of the season. The three-spot would be ample run support for starting pitcher Tyler Wagner (11-5), who dominated the BayBears lineup on Thursday night. Over five shutout innings, the Las Vegas native allowed four hits, but struck out six without issuing a walk on 67 pitches. The 2012 fourth-round pick has stretched his scoreless-inning streak to 19.1 innings, dating back to Aug. 10 against the Mississippi Braves. Biloxi (31-28) added insurance in the second with a two-run frame. A one-out free pass to Yadiel Rivera (0x3, 2 R, BB) set up Arcia’s run-scoring triple to right to bring the Shuckers’ lead to four. Josh Fellhauer’s (1x4, RBI, BB, SB) two-out bunt single brought home Arcia for the five-run advantage. Brooks Hall was the first out of the Shuckers’ bullpen and allowed a homerun to Evan Marzilli to start his appearance in the sixth. A single by Sean Jamieson and a single by Socrates Brito put two on with nobody out and already one across for Mobile (31-27). Hall would regroup and set down the next three BayBears without allowing a run on a groundout, pop out and strikeout to escape the jam with limited damage. Biloxi padded on three more runs in the eighth to open up a cushion for the bullpen with the big knock coming off a two-run double by Orf to score Rivera and Arcia to open the game to 8-1. Jacob Barnes took the eighth and gave up a leadoff single to Marzilli, but induced a pop out and two strikeouts to get out of the inning. Martin Viramontes worked a perfect ninth to secure the victory. The former USC Trojan pitched two innings and struck out four over the five-game series with Mobile, while not allowing any hits or surrendering a walk. Biloxi travels north to face the Mississippi Braves in Pearl, Miss. for a five-game series. LHP Hobbs Johnson (7-6, 3.38) toes the rubber in game one for the Shuckers, while the M-Braves will send out RHP Lucas Sims (3-2, 4.19). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. 5. Final: Mobile 4, Biloxi 3 Hader tosses a season-high seven innings, but Shuckers fall late, 4-3, to BayBears Tyrone Taylor blasted a first inning three run home run on Wednesday night Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/7/0/2/145621702/cuts/8S1A9693_h9kp7ayk_e6t86ii6.JPG Tyrone Taylor homered in the first inning on Wednesday night, his first long ball since June 10 (M.K. Krebs) BILOXI, MS – In true Biloxi Shuckers vs. Mobile BayBears fashion, Wednesday night’s contest went down to the final innings in front of a crowd of 2,079 at MGM Park. Unfortunately for the hometown fans, the Shuckers fell, 4-3, in the 13th one-run game out of the 26 meetings between the clubs in 2015. The loss drops the Shuckers to 2.5 games back in the Southern League South Division standings, with 11 games remaining in the regular season. Mobile (31-26) grabbed the first run of the game after a one-out double by Sean Jamieson in the top of the first inning. Two wild pitches to Jack Reinheimer by Josh Hader allowed the runner to score and put the Shuckers down, 1-0. Biloxi’s (30-28) deficit would not last long as the Shuckers struck for three in the home-half of the first. Yadiel Rivera (0x3, R, BB) walked to start the first and Orlando Arcia (2x4, R, 2B) singled the runner up to second and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Tyrone Taylor (2x3, HR, 3 RBI, R, 2B) came up two outs later and launched a three-run homer to left-centerfield to give the Shuckers a 3-1 advantage. The homer for Taylor were his first since hitting long balls in back-to-back games on June 9-10, vs. Mobile at MGM Park. Taylor had a double later in the game and the two extra-base hits matched his August total, during the first 21 games this month. Hader kept the lead going into the fourth, but a solo homerun for Jamieson cut the Biloxi lead to one. Another solo shot for Mobile in the sixth, off the bat of Reinheimer knotted the game at three. The 21-year-old southpaw turned in his longest outing since June 9, 2014 with seven innings. The Maryland native allowed three runs on six hits, one walk and six strikeouts, tallying four of those six in his final two frames. The outing was the starting rotations 10th over the last 15 games and 53rd on the season, which is more than the overall win totals of Jacksonville and Jackson. Braden Shipley (9-9) took over for starter Zack Godley and allowed just two hits over six innings for Mobile, while striking out seven on just 72 pitches. Yhonathan Barrios (1-2) allowed two base runners in the eighth, but left the runners stranded. The righty got the leadoff man in the ninth on a groundout, but gave up a single to Gabriel Guerrero. With Ronnie Freeman at the plate, Guerrero stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Parker Berberet. Freeman went down looking, setting the table for pinch hitter Tom Belza, who doubled to center to plate the go-ahead run. Josh Fellhauer (1x4) singled to lead off the ninth against Daniel Gibson (SV, 1) and made it to second on a sacrifice bunt by Taylor. Nick Ramirez (1x4, 2B) would strike out swinging and Victor Roache (0x4) flew out to right to end the game. Nathan Orf’s (0x4) 14-game on-base streak was snapped with a hitless performance. The Shuckers will look to take the rubber match from the BayBears on Thursday night at MGM Park before heading up to Pearl, Miss. RHP Tyler Wagner (10-5, 2.21) will toe the rubber for Biloxi, while the BayBears will send out RHP Gabriel Arias (4-1, 1.69). First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:25 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. 6. Final: Mobile 0, Biloxi 9 Shuckers take series advantage with 9-0, two-hit shutout of BayBears Adrian Houser won his third-straight start, tossing seven shutout innings Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/3/6/145403136/cuts/8S1A9582_4rvf864r_2fbufhzg.JPG Adrian Houser lowered the starters ERA to 1.21 over the last 14 games. (M.K. Krebs) BILOXI, MS - Adrian Houser didn't need much run support on Tuesday night against the Mobile BayBears, but the Biloxi Shuckers put on a hit parade anyway, shutting out Mobile, 9-0, in front of a crowd of 2,118 at MGM Park. The nine-run outburst was the most runs Biloxi had put up in a game since scoring 10 against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on July 26, while the pitching locked down its 14th shutout of the season. The Shuckers take a 2-1 series advantage, while Houser and two Biloxi relievers held Mobile to just two hits and four total baserunners, not allowing a BayBear to reach second base. In the win, Biloxi went 4-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Biloxi (30-27) jumped out to an early lead with a two-out rally in the first against Johnny Shuttlesworth (0-1). Nathan Orf (1x2, 2 R, 3 BB) drew a walk after Yadiel Rivera (2x5, RBI, 2 R) and Orlando Arcia (1x5, R) were retired to start the frame, and Josh Fellhauer (2x2, 3 RBI, 2 BB) came through with a run-scoring single to left field to give the home team a quick, 1-0, lead. Streaks continued for both Orf and Arcia on Tuesday evening. Orf would reach base safely four times, reaching in a 14th consecutive game and has also reached safely in 37 of his last 42 games. Arcia punched a single in the third to continue his hitting streak to nine games. That lone run in the first would prove to be all Houser (3-0) needed en route to staying perfect as a Shucker. In seven innings, the Oklahoma native gave up two hits and walked two, but also struck out three and never allowed a runner past first base. Houser's line gave him his second quality start with Biloxi in five starts. Nick Ramirez (1x4, HR, RBI, R) launched his first homerun since July 15 to extend the Shuckers' lead to 2-0 in the fifth. The offense continued to churn after the blast, pumping out three more runs to blow the game open for the Shuckers. Victor Roache (0x2, 2 BB) walked right after the Ramirez dinger and Parker Berberet (3x4, HR, RBI, 2 R) singled to put two on for Houser. A failed sacrifice attempt resulted in Roache being thrown out at third, but Berberet took his spot at second while Houser reached first. Mobile (31-25) went to the bullpen and selected Adam Miller to face Rivera, who greeted the reliever with a RBI single to right field to bring home Berberet to extend the lead to 3-0, while moving Houser over to third. After a hard line out by Arcia, Houser would come in to score on a wild pitch to Orf. A high throw to Miller covering the plate allowed Rivera to scoot into third. Orf walked in front of Fellhauer, who promptly deposited an RBI single into left, bringing home Rivera for a 5-0 advantage. The Shuckers added onto the lead with a three-spot in the seventh, and added another in the eighth on Berberet's first homerun of the season. Manny Barreda worked a perfect ninth and collected a strikeout, and Martin Viramontes had a clean ninth with two strikeouts to secure the shutout. The Shuckers go for the series victory on Wednesday night at MGM Park. LHP Josh Hader (1-2, 2.29) will take the wheel for Biloxi, while Mobile will have Braden Shipley (9-9, 3.61) work on the bump. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:25 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. Final: Mobile 1, Biloxi 2 (11 Innings) Rivera's 11th inning walk-off nets Shuckers a 2-1 victory on Monday Jorge Lopez earned his seventh-straight quality start and 15th of 2015 Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/5/6/145199556/cuts/8S1A2299_joq2ru18_pyjc6p2w.JPG Jorge Lopez settled for a no decision as the Shuckers win 2-1 in 11 innings on Monday (M.K. Krebs) BILOXI, MS – In typical MGM Park fashion, a matchup between the Biloxi Shuckers and the Mobile BayBears required extra-innings, with the Shuckers walking-off victorious, 2-1, on Yadiel Rivera’s RBI single to left field in the 11th inning on Monday night. Biloxi has six walk-off victories in 35 games at their brand new home and jumped back to 20-games over .500 in the second half of the season. The Shuckers keep pace with the M-Braves and remain three games back with 13 to play in the half The walk-off win was the seventh in 35 games played at MGM Park and sixth in extra-innings (6-2). The Shuckers improve to 10-5 overall in extra-inning contests and 25-17 in one-run games. 12 of the 24 meetings between the Shuckers and BayBears have been decided by one run and four of the of the 14 played at MGM Park have gone to extras. In the second-straight 11-inning game between the clubs, Nathan Orf (3x4, R, BB) singled against Jimmy Sherfy (1-6) to start the bottom of the 11th, then moved to second after a walk to Josh Fellhauer (0x3, 2 BB). Nick Shaw (0x1) came on to pinch hit, but struck out attempting to bunt for the first out of the inning. Rivera (1x5, RBI) then stroked the only hit with runners in scoring position (1-for-6) into left to bring home a hustling Orf for the winning run. Both teams combined to go 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position on Monday. Orf extended his on-base streak to 13 games and has now reached safely in 36 of his last 41 games. Jorge Lopez made his 23rd start of the season. The Brewers second round pick in 2011 worked out of a jam in the first after loading the bases, but struck out Gabriel Guerrero for the final out of the inning to escape unscathed. The 22-year-old did allow a run in the third after Socrates Brito singled with one out and Garrett Weber followed with a ground-rule double to put two runners in scoring position. Rudy Flores’ sacrifice fly to center plated Brito to give Mobile a 1-0 lead. Lopez ended up allowing just the one run in his six innings on 101 pitches. The Puerto Rico native picked up his 15th quality start of the season, seventh-straight, while walking one and punching out six. Biloxi tied the game at 1-1 in the home-half of the fifth. Tyrone Taylor (1x4, R) started things out with a single to left and Adam Weisenburger (0x1, HBP) was hit by a pitch to place two aboard for Lopez, who put down a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners into scoring position. Brett Phillips (0x4, RBI) lifted a deep drive to right field that was caught by Guerrero, but plated Taylor to knot the game at one. John Omahen delivered his own quality start for the BayBears. In six innings, the 26-year-old gave up the one run on two hits, two walks and six strikeouts on 101 pitches. Jacob Barnes got the first call out of the bullpen for the Shuckers and continued his torrid pace in relief, striking out three in two innings while only allowing a hit. In 41.1 innings out of the ‘pen, the Ft. Myers native has allowed 12 earned runs for an ERA of 2.63 in 28 outings. Damien Magnifico took the ninth and gave up a hit, but also got a strikeout to keep Mobile off the board. Jed Bradley (1-1) worked the final two frames and allowed two hits while picking up two punchouts for his first victory as a Shucker. Orlando Arcia (1x5) extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single in the eighth, and has recorded at least one hit in 12 of his last 16 games. Biloxi will look to jump in front in the five-game series in game three on Tuesday night. RHP Adrian Houser (2-0, 2.86) will try to stay perfect as a Shucker, while RHP Johnny Shuttlesworth (0-0, --) makes his first appearance as a BayBear. Krebs) BILOXI, MS - Orlando Arcia recorded his first multi-homer game with solo shots in the first and fourth on Sunday, but the Biloxi Shuckers fell to the Mobile BayBears, 3-2 in 11 innings, in front of 2,608 at MGM Park. Biloxi stranded eight men on base and went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. The loss also drops the Shuckers to 9-5 in extra-inning contests, 5-2 at MGM Park, as well as 24-17 in one-run games. The Shuckers dropped the opener of the five-game series and now the top three teams in the Southern League South Division, Mississippi, Pensacola and Mobile are separated by just a ½ game. Biloxi sits 3.0 games back with 14 left to play. Arcia (3x4, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB) kick-started the offense with a bang in the first, launching his first solo home run off the top of the netting in left field and onto Caillavet Street for a quick, 1-0, lead. The 21-year-old collected his second long ball in three games with the blast. He also extended his hitting streak to seven games. Biloxi (28-27) turned to Brooks Hall for a spot start in game one of the series. The 25-year-old allowed two base runners in the first, but worked out of trouble, and faced four batters in a scoreless second. The trouble came in the third for the South Carolina native, when he surrendered a two-run homerun to Socrates Brito to put the Shuckers in a one-run deficit. Drew Gagnon came on in relief of Hall and rolled through the Mobile lineup through 4.2 innings of work, walking one batter and giving up just one hit while striking out three. Sunday was the 25-year-old's second consecutive scoreless appearance of four or more innings out of the bullpen, and stretched his scoreless-inning streak to 10.1 innings. Arcia lifted his second blast over Caillavet Street behind the left field wall in the fourth, to tie the game at two. With the multi-home run performance, the shortstop became the first Shucker to record two long balls in a game in the young history of MGM Park. Chattanooga's Kennys Vargas hit two for Chattanooga on July 18. Biloxi loaded the bases in the ninth to set up a potential seventh walk-off at MGM Park. Victor Roache (1x5) singled to start the frame and moved to second two batters later after Taylor Green (0x3, 2 BB) drew a walk. A two-out free pass to pinch hitter Nick Shaw (0x0, BB) loaded the bases and prompted a pitching change from the BayBears with Brett Phillips (1x5) due up. The first pitch from reliever Jake Barrett (3-0) skipped past the catcher Ronnie Freeman. Roache broke for the plate, but was tagged out on a play at the plate to end the inning and send the game to extras. Yhonathan Barrios (IP, 2 H, 3 SO) and Damien Magnifico (IP, BB, SO) worked the eighth and ninth innings, keeping the BayBears off the board while combining for four strikeouts. Mobile (30-24) took the lead in the 11th against reliever Manny Barreda (1-1). A one-out triple by Evan Marzilli put the go-ahead run just 90 feet away for Jack Reinheimer, who lined a single to center to put the Shuckers back down a run. Biloxi went down in order in the bottom-half of the 11th against Jimmy Sherfy (SV, 2). The Shuckers look to even up the five-game set on Monday night at MGM Park. RHP Jorge Lopez (12-5, 2.32) will look to extend his league lead in wins for Biloxi, while Mobile will send out RHP John Omanhen (6-1, 3.10). 9. Final: Biloxi 2, Jackson 1 Shuckers steal finale from Generals, 2-1, take four of five from Generals Josh Fellhauer plates two with an infield single in the eighth inning Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/3/2/144794132/cuts/8S1A7155_wcq3zy8w_y0u20vh4.JPG Jacob Barnes earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief and five strikeouts out of the bullpen. (M.K. Krebs) JACKSON, TN - Biloxi Shucker fans had a hard time exhaling on Saturday, as Biloxi used some magic to maneuver its way out of helpless situations all night before taking the series finale over the Jackson Generals, 2-1, at the Ballpark at Jackson. The Shuckers pitching staff stranded 12 base runners in the win, while holding Jackson to 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position. On three occasions Saturday night, the Shuckers escaped bases loaded, nobody out jams unscathed. The Shuckers leave Tennessee by taking four of five from the Generals and win the season series by taking nine of the 15 meetings. The cardiac clams entered the eighth trailing 1-0. Nick Shaw (0x1, R, 2 BB) drew a free pass against reliever Trey Cochran-Gill (4-3) to start things off and moved over to third on a single by Brett Phillips (1x4, R), who advanced to second on the throw to third. Orlando Arcia (1x4) lined out to short and Nathan Orf (1x4) popped up to first on a bunt attempt. With lefty Josh Fellhauer (2x3, 2 RBI) due up, the Generals turned to Paul Fry to get the lefty-lefty matchup. Fellhauer made Jackson pay with an infield single, plating both Shaw and Phillips to take the one-run advantage. Phillips scored his minor league-leading 104th run of the season. Jackson hopped on the board early with a run in the first. Ian Miller singled to start the inning, but was picked off the bases before Tyler Smith walked to follow. Marcus Littlewood doubled the runner over to third, and Aderlin Rodriguez's sacrifice fly to right brought the runner home to put the Shuckers in a 1-0 hole. Biloxi starting pitcher Hobbs Johnson flirted with disaster all night, but only allowed one run in his five-plus innings of work. The southpaw loaded the bases with nobody out in both the third and fourth innings, but escaped both jams without any damage. After allowing the first two to reach to start the sixth, the 24-year-old was lifted for Jacob Barnes (4-5). After allowing a single on his first pitch out of the bullpen to Tyler Marlette, Barnes struck out Jabari Henry looking and Luis Caballero swinging for the first two outs, then got a fly out to center by Ian Miller to escape with the Shuckers trailing by just a run. Barnes worked two innings in relief and struck out five while allowing just one hit in the winning effort. Top Mariners right-handed pitching prospect Edwin Diaz took the mound for Jackson and did not allow a hit until Fellhauer's single with two outs in the fourth. He ended up tossing six shutout innings in a no decision. Manny Barreda walked two in the eighth, but left both of those runners stranded. Yhonathan Barrios took the ninth and needed just seven pitches - five for strikes - to pick up his fifth save with the Shuckers. Biloxi will head back home to MGM Park to face off against the Mobile BayBears for five. RHP Brooks Hall (7-8, 4.33) will make his first start since July 29 against the Generals. Mobile will send out RHP Brandon Sinnery (5-6, 5.55). First pitch is scheduled for 5:10 p.m., with coverage beginning at 4:55 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. (Cliff Welch/Icon Sportswire) JACKSON, TN - For the first time in five series, the Biloxi Shuckers won't have to wait for a rubber match to decide a series as the fightin' oysters took down the Jackson Generals, 3-0, on Friday night at the Ballpark at Jackson. Thanks to starter Tyler Wagner and reliever Damien Magnifico, Friday marked the 13th shutout of the season for Biloxi, and moved the team within 2.5 games of first place in the Southern League South division in the second half. Tyler Wagner (10-5) scattered six hits across his seven shutout innings of work, while walking one and striking out six. The Las Vegas native ran into a bases-loaded, nobody out jam in the fifth, but got a lineout to right by Ian Miller and induced one of four double plays turned on Friday from Zach Shank to escape the threat. The 24-year-old now has 16 quality starts on the season and has reached the 10-win plateau for a third consecutive season as a professional, and has tossed 14.1 consecutive scoreless innings. He's recorded back-to-back outings of seven shutout innings. Biloxi starting pitchers have recorded 50 quality starts, which is more that Jacksonville and Jackson have in total wins. The rotation has seven quality starts over the last 10 games, posting a 1.00 ERA, allowing just six earned runs over their last 54 innings pitched. Overall, the rotation has a 3.11 ERA. Biloxi (27-26) broke a scoreless tie in the fourth when Yadiel Rivera (1x3, R, 3B) picked up his first hit since coming back to the Shuckers from Triple-A Colorado Springs, snapping an 0-for-10 on a triple to center. Tyrone Taylor (1x3, RBI) plated the runner on a squeeze bunt to the left side of the infield to give Biloxi a 1-0 lead. Orlando Arcia (1x4, HR, 2 RBI, R) added insurance for the Shuckers in the ninth with a two-run shot to left-centerfield, bringing home Brett Phillips (1x3, R, BB) for the 3-0 advantage. It was Arcia's first homerun since July 15. Damien Magnifico picked up his 17th save by working the final two innings and allowing just one hit. Magnifico is 17 of 19 in save opportunities. Biloxi will look to take its fourth game of the series on Saturday night in game five of the set and the final meeting between the clubs in 2015. Final: Biloxi 5, Jackson 1 (Game One) Final: Biloxi 0, Jackson 4 (Game Two) Hader and Houser impress in doubleheader split with Jackson Josh Hader matched a career-high with 10 strikeouts in game two Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/3/6/144408236/cuts/8S1A7592_2x37d40g_udij8d5s.JPG Josh Hader dropped to 0-2 in his last two starts despite striking out 17 over 11 innings and one earned run allowed. (M.K. Krebs) JACKSON, TN - The Biloxi Shuckers climbed back over .500 in the second half, but fell right back to even after splitting a doubleheader with the Jackson Generals at the Ballpark at Jackson on Thursday night. Starting pitching dominated both games for Biloxi as Adrian Houser and Josh Hader combined for 17 strikeouts and just one earned run allowed in 10 innings. The Shuckers dropped game one, 5-1 and the nightcap, 4-0. The loss in game two also ended a four-game winning streak against Jackson, six-game winning streak in seven-inning contests and three-game win streak overall. Game 1: Shuckers 5, Generals 1 Biloxi (26-25) jumped on the board early to kick off the doubleheader as Brett Phillips (RBI, R, 2 2B) started the game with the first of two doubles in game one. A single by Orlando Arcia moved Phillips to third and he scored on a sacrifice fly to left off the bat of Nathan Orf (1x2, RBI, R). The Shuckers would retain the 1-0 edge until a two-out rally in the third by Jackson (16-35). After two fly outs to center started the inning for the Generals, Zach Shank singled to right and stole second. Tyler Smith walked, allowing Aderlin Rodriguez to single home Smith from second to tie the game at one apiece. Biloxi did not take long to jump back out in front, putting up a four-spot in the top-half of the fourth. Orf and Nick Ramirez (1x3, R) started the route with back-to-back singles before Victor Roache (0x3) flew out to left for the first out of the inning. An error by third baseman Jordy Lara from Yadiel Rivera (0x2, R, BB) allowed Orf to score from second to give the Shuckers a 2-1 lead. Tyrone Taylor (1x3, R) kept the line moving with a single to center, loading the bases for Taylor Green (1x3, RBI), who lined a single to right to bring home Ramirez. Parker Berberet (0x1, RBI, BB) lifted a sacrifice fly to right field that plated Rivera for a 4-1 lead, and Phillips added a RBI double to left to score Taylor and open up the Shuckers' advantage to four. Adrian Houser (2-0) started game one for Biloxi back and struck out four consecutive batters for the final two outs in the first and first two in the second before allowing back-to- singles to Lara and Guillermo Pimentel, but nothing would come of that for Jackson. The right-hander from Locust Grove, OK picked up his second consecutive victory by going five innings and allowing the one run on seven hits, a walk and six strikeouts. The free pass was the first Houser has issued as a member of the Biloxi Shuckers. Jed Bradley worked the final two innings of the opener and did not allow a base runner, while picking up two strikeouts. The victory in game one put the Shuckers above .500 for the first time since defeating the Tennessee Smokies, 6-4 in 11 innings, on July 10. Game 2: Generals 4, Shuckers 0 Josh Hader (1-2) rolled through the first three innings of the nightcap, striking out five without allowing a hit. The southpaw's sixth strikeout started the fourth, but a passed ball on Adam Weisenburger (0x1, BB) allowed Marcus Littlewood to reach base safely. Aderlin Rodriguez then doubled to right-center, scoring Littlewood on the Generals' first hit of the game. The 21-year-old struck out a season-high, and tied a career-high, with 10 in five innings. Deep counts cut the Maryland native's night short, as he needed 99 pitches to work through game two, while tying a season-high with four walks. In four starts with Biloxi, Hader has struck out 30 batters in 19.2 innings. Over his last two starts, he's 0-2, but allowed just one earned run over 11 innings, while striking out 17. The Shuckers have been shutout in both of the starts and 12 times over the season. Jackson (17-35) opened up the game late with a three-run homerun by Jabari Henry off of Martin Viramontes (IP, 3 R, 3 H, 2 BB) to extend the Generals' lead to 4-0. Biloxi (26-26) had another chance to plate an early run in the first after Orlando Arcia (1x2, 2B) doubled with one out. Nathan Orf followed with a single to right, but was thrown out at second. Arcia broke for home on the play and was thrown out at home for the final out of the inning. At the end of the night, Biloxi sits 3.5 games behind Mobile and Pensacola, in fourth place in the South Division standings, with 17 games remaining. The Shuckers will look to win their second straight series with a victory over the Generals on Friday night. Biloxi's RHP Tyler Wagner (9-5, 2.33) will try for a third consecutive start to reach double-digits in the win column for a third straight year. Jackson's RHP Edwin Diaz (3-10, 4.59) will look to avoid becoming the first pitcher in the Southern League to collect 11 losses. A strikeout to Johnson set up Brett Phillips' (0x3, RBI) sacrifice fly to left field to plate Green. Pensacola took the lead back in the third with an RBI double by Seth Mejias-Brean to score Alex Blandino. Johnson did not factor into the decision, lasting just three innings and surrendering two runs on four hits, four walks and two strikeouts on 72 pitches - 38 for strikes. Drew Gagnon (1-0) took over for the starter out of the Biloxi bullpen to start the fourth and retired 12-straight Pensacola batters over four innings, striking out five and lowering his ERA from 15.75 to 7.88 in the process. . The Shuckers grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a two-spot. Back-to-back doubles by Taylor and Berberet tied the game at two. Orlando Arcia (2x4) came up two batters later and hit a slow chopper up the middle that Wright charged on and made threw wildly to first, allowing Berberet to score from second and give Biloxi a 3-2 lead. Victor Roache (2x4, HR, RBI, 2 R) made some noise in the fifth with the first homerun by a Shucker since Aug. 5 on an opposite-field blast to give Biloxi a two-run cushion. The Shuckers' lead was cut in half with a solo blast to right off the bat of Juan Duran in the eighth off of Damien Magnifico (SV, 16). Berberet earned an RBI in the eighth with a sacrifice fly to left field, bringing in Roache and giving the Shuckers an insurance run for a 5-3 lead. Magnifico came back out for the ninth and worked a perfect inning to secure his 16th save in 18 chances and eighth straight. Biloxi has an off day on Monday before traveling to West Tennessee to face off against the Jackson Generals for a five-game series starting on Tuesday. RHP Jorge Lopez (11-5, 2.45) seeks to become the first 12-game winner in the league in game one for Biloxi, while Jackson will send out the man who leads the league in losses, LHP Misael Siverio (4-10, 4.44). 21. Final: Pensacola 2, Biloxi 1 Wagner deals a gem, but long ball dooms Shuckers again Tyler Wagner turned in his 15th quality start in a no decision on Saturday Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/2/8/143438128/cuts/BRP_6692_1999f5az_m4bd42g0.JPG Tyler Wagner settled for a no decision in his second attempt for a 10th win. (Benton Reed Photography) BILOXI, MS – Jesse Winker of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos continues to torment Southern League pitching, as the Cincinnati Reds’ top prospect once again delivered a finishing move against the Biloxi Shuckers, this time using a two-run homerun to right to defeat the Shuckers, 2-1 on Saturday night. Winker homered in his fifth-straight game, in front of a crowd of a 4,895 at MGM Park. Both clubs combined for just one hit through the first three innings, with Adam Weisenburger (1x3, BB) marking up the first knock for the Shuckers. Tyler Wagner entered the fourth having allowed just one base runner on a walk to Marquez Smith to start the second, but gave up a lead-off double to Ryan Wright to snap a string of six straight batters set down. Winker followed with a single into center, but Brett Phillips gunned down Wright at third for the first out of the inning. Smith became the third consecutive Blue Wahoo to collect a hit off of Wagner to put runners on first and second. Wagner retired Seth Mejias-Brean on a fly out to right and induced Sean Buckley into a groundout to second to escape the jam. Phillips helped out his starter again in the seventh, keeping Pensacola off the board. After a leadoff single by Mejias-Brean, Buckley doubled into center. Mejias-Brean rounded third and headed home, but Phillips hit the cut-off man Orlando Arcia, who threw a strike to Weisenburger, nabbing the runner at home for the out. Wagner picked up his team-leading 15th quality start on the season, and the Shuckers’ fourth straight, tossing seven innings of shutout ball, giving up six hits, walking two and striking out four. Biloxi starters have collected 48 quality starts on the season, with 32 of those coming in the last 57 games. Winker added his fourth homerun of the series, and fifth in the last five games, with a runner on and two outs in the eighth. Yhonathan Barrios (0-1) took over for Wagner to start the inning and set down the first two batters before a single by Ryan Wright set the stage for Winker’s dramatics. Jacob Barnes took the ninth for Biloxi, walked a batter and picked up two strikeouts. Reigning Southern League pitcher of the week Cody Reed (3-1) spun a gem against the Shuckers on Saturday night for Pensacola (28-21). In seven innings, the southpaw struck out 10 and issued four walks while giving up four hits. Biloxi’s (23-25) best chance against Reed came in the sixth inning when Phillips started things off with a walk and moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt by Arcia. With Nathan Orf (1x3) at the plate, Phillips swiped third, but Orf struck out for the second out. Brandon Macias (0x3, BB) grounded out to second to end the threat. The Shuckers ended up breaking through in the ninth off of closer Zack Weiss (SV, 20). Victor Roache (2x3, R, BB) walked on four pitches to open up the inning and Tyrone Taylor (1x4) followed with a single. A passed ball on Kyle Skipworth with Nick Shaw (0x3, RBI) at the plate allowed the runners to advance, giving Shaw the opportunity to left a sacrifice fly to left field to bring home Roache for the lone run. Weisenburger and pinch hitter Taylor Green (0x1) were retired to finish the game. The Shuckers will have to go through their fifth consecutive rubber match (2-2) on Sunday night. Southern League ERA leader Tim Adleman shutout Biloxi over 7.1 innings, en route to his first win in four chances over the Shuckers. The defeat drops Biloxi back under .500 in the second half, and 17-14 at MGM Park. Winker's first inning homer to left, off of Biloxi starter Josh Hader was his 12th of the season, and the Cincinnati Reds top prospect has driven in five of the Wahoos' seven runs in the first three games in the series. Hader (1-1) rolled along after the long ball (his fifth surrendered this season), striking out seven in his six innings of work, giving the lefty from Maryland 20 strikeouts in three games as a Shucker. Houser and Hader over the past two days have struck out 15 and walked none in 12 innings of work. Biloxi pitching went on to face the minimum from the third inning on, and sat down 21 of 22 batters to close out the game. Equally as impressive out of the bullpen for the Shuckers was Brooks Hall, who walked the first batter he faced in Winker, but induced a double play with one out to erase the base runner. The South Carolina native set down the final eight batters of the night. Adleman (7-8) came in 0-3 against the Shuckers, but held Biloxi off the board and struck out five and walked one, surrendering five hits. The Shuckers' best chance to get on the board came in the eighth. Nathan Orf (1x1, 2B) doubled with one out to left, but a fly out to center by Brett Phillips (0x4), and a pop out on a bunt attempt by Orlando Arcia (0x4) ended the threat. Phillips' five-game hitting streak was snapped with the hitless performance. The shutout was the 11th issued to the Shuckers this season and second blanking by the Wahoos. The Shuckers continue to dominate the season series, leading it 13-5. Biloxi will look to get back in the win column and take the five-game set on Saturday night.
