    It's just so frustrating. The DH position, perhaps more than any other spot on the roster has been a huge problem. Admittedly, I thought Winker would bounce back. I thought Voit was fine as a PH/part-time bat. I thought Yelich and Contreras would be there to fill in for Winker/Voit. The injuries hurt too, as not having Urias, Mitchell, Taylor and Frelick forced Yelich to LF. The Brewers depth has been tested, and has failed, at least for the DH position. And for the posters that believe that this was all predictable, I would respectfully disagree. It isn't that the roster plan going into the season was expecting the DH platoon to produce All-Star level performance (like the Aguilar/Thames platoon at 1B did for one season). It was just expected to be around league-average; expected to allow Counsell to mix-and-match, play matchups, get everyone involved and stay fresh. I do wonder how much of an impact playing a tough schedule has had. Even now, Adames, Yelich, Winker, Voit, and even Wiemer are ALL performing below their rest-of-season projections on fangraphs.

    Sheesh... He really IS dominating at the dish right now. Brewers should bring him up as a full-time DH right now.

    The Brewers have enough trade capital to get a legit RH bat-only player. I understand going into the season and trying out this current roster mix, but if this goes on too much longer, they need to act, and not wait for the trade deadline.     I'm confident that KC (as well as Chapman/his agent), knew that he was signing a deal now, with the expectation of being traded at the deadline. KC signs him market rate... Chapman and his representatives give KC a list of trade-deadline partners. Chapman gets traded to a team that did not want the financial risk in January, but are more than willing to part with a prospect later for a sure-er bet. What I mean is that perhaps Chapman only wants to play in a big market or for a playoff team, but none of those options are offering him decent money in the off-season. KC comes along and offers the money in addition to a guarantee that they will accept a best offer from a previously agreed upon list of teams... Both KC and Chapman benefit from this relationship -- as does the team trading for him and his contract. Everyone wins.

    Sorry to have missed your response. Just like being patient with our rookies on the field, perhaps I need to be patient with myself as a rookie to the new and improved Brewerfan, and get used to how to best contribute and benefit from the community here. Let's table this for the time being. Many of us (including yourself), need to let the new site breathe a little before we start making tons of changes, or creating unnecessary challenges for yourself. Thank you for your efforts!

    This is an important note when relying on WAR. If someone leads off and plays everyday, and that someone doesn't outright suck, he'll accumulate WAR. Then again, I appreciate the old adage that the most important ability is availability.

    I disagree with the article. Many have raised the same points as follows: 1 - Rookies need time to adjust. A month isn't very much time. 2 - Turang is not merely "good" defensively, he is excellent. Using the eye-test he's been outstanding, using advanced metrics, he's a top-5 defender at 2B in MLB. 3 - I disagree that there are significant upgrades available on the 40-man, aside from probably Urias, who is still injured. In a few more weeks, and when there are probably better options available, I'd be willing to send him down.

    When he first got hurt, I didn't anticipate being so relieved that he was back.

    Bingo. What's also true with pitch selection is the situational nature of things. The pitcher may use swing-and-miss pitches in higher leverage situations, and weak-contact pitches in lower leverage situations. Perhaps the Brewers simply have been in a lot of lower-leverage situations (e.g. big lead/deficit, no runners on base, looking for double-play, etc.)

    I don't believe the Brewers will keep playing him regardless of performance. They are trying to win. For all of the knee-jerk perceptions regarding Counsell or the Front Office, I feel that management has traditionally had a pretty short leash on underperformance. I think any exceptions were usually due to a strong track record of success (McCutcheon/Cain/Yelich?), which often correlates to the financial commitment. The length of the leash in any organization is relative to the financial commitment. With his lackluster defense, but baserunning prowess, Yelich needs to OPS somewhere around .700 to have a shot at keeping a spot in the lineup. Right now, he's not meeting that threshold. But he's going to be provided time to figure it out. Perhaps Counsell will rest him more frequently against lefties, or give him more time at DH, but they want him to be a player that benefits the team, and if he isn't benefitting the team come July, he'll be getting more days off, or perhaps a stint on the the IL with a soft tissue injury. My guess is that Counsell and the Front Office are also running out of patience. If he remains a replacement-level player come August, longer-term solutions will need to be considered.

    Well, it's now May 1st, and the numbers versus lefties are not good. The Brewers rank 29th in MLB in wRC+ versus left-handed pitchers. Voit, Anderson, Brosseau, and Adames have been the prime culprits, combining for 14 hits in 100 at-bats versus lefties. Contreras, Miller, and Wiemer are all batting .300+, so they haven't been the issue. Turang is 0-10 versus lefties. Yelich, Tellez, and Winker have been fine. Hopefully getting Tyrone Taylor and Urias back will help a little bit, but I'm on board with looking for a Voit replacement. I know there's a vocal minority here who want to see the reverse-split Hiura. Oddly, lefty-swinging Jon Singleton also has a career reverse split versus lefties. How is it the Brewers have so many guys with reverse splits?

    What might the Brewers have with this 20-year old? Numbers-wise, he's performed everywhere he's been. Do we know what his profile is? His K-rate and BB-rates look really good.
