  1. Cubs have been the laughing stock of Major League Baseball for the last century.
  2. Of course. As soon as the Brewers blew the 6-0 lead yesterday, I knew we'd win today, and the Rockies would lose their last two, just because that's the only way the universe could further jab Brewers fans everywhere in the eye.
  3. Thames has had 114 PA's with runners in scoring position. He's hitting .146 with 2 HR and 16 RBI with RISP. That's dreadful.
  4. When was the last time that the Brewers scored 15 runs, and Ryan Braun didn't have a single hit or RBI? What impresses me is that of their 15 hits, they've only had the one homer and two doubles. 7 for 11 with RISP---against the hated Cubs---will make up for our offensive woes in the second half a little bit. OK, not much. But for tonight, I'm enjoying the thought of thousands of Cubs fans gnashing their teeth.
  5. While I'm impressed with Scooter's production this year, let's remember how much home runs are up. While Giancarlo Stanton's likely the only guy that's going to end over 50 (I don't see Judge doing it, nor Khris Davis), this season has seen a pace to break the all-time single season record.
  6. Well, the Nelson news sure is a downer. And at 199 Ks no less. Damn, I was really hoping to make the playoffs, and see how Chase, Jimmy and Zach could do. That would have been a pretty formidable 1-2-3 at the top of the rotation.
  7. So, it looks like we found our offense, gentlemen. Our next door neighbor is a huge Cubs fan...and he flies that infernal "W" flag after every Cubs win. I ran next door when I saw it was 12-0, and had to take a picture of the flag that is conspicuously missing after last night's game. It normally flies from a post next to the lamp on the left side of his garage door. I feel relatively confident that said flag will be absent again in the morning when I go to get my newspaper. It's moments like this one where I love my iPhone 7. ProCam 4 and RAW format gives me a DSLR in my pocket. It's always at the ready to pimp my Cub fan friends.
  8. Outfield should be Santana in left, Phillips in center, and Brinson in right. Santana is God awful, defensively, but his impact can be minimized, somewhat, in left. Put Braun at first base. He has to run less, no walls to run into, or nearly as many balls to dive for. As long as he can avoid collisions, or getting stepped on by base runners, it should help him stay healthier, which means his .300 bat is in the lineup more often. He needs to be third in the batting order every day. Trade Perez and Thames, and pray we get something in return. There's a reason why Thames couldn't make it in the Majors the first time, and now that he's been back, pitchers have him figured out. He's driven in a whopping 54 runs in 489 PAs, and 28 of those came from his stepping on home plate after a home run. That means he's driven in 26 ducks on the pond otherwise. That's terrible. His defense is an abomination. Overall, he's a 0.8 WAR player, the same an oft injured Ryan Braun has put up (before last night) in 152 fewer PAs. Since May 1st, he's hit .207 with a .745 OBP. The OBP is only respectable because of the 48 walks he's drawn over that time (against 123 Ks). In the last month, though, he's fallen off a cliff. August 6th to September 6th, he's hitting .181 with a .263 OBP, and a .417 SLG.
  9. Nelson has clearly been the superior pitcher this year, and while the Brewers aren't keen on long term deals for pitchers, I think Nelson has more upside, and I'd be inclined to take him for one game. There are a lot of metrics, but I love FIP. It measures only the things a pitcher can control. Here are three numbers to look at: 2017 FIP: Clayton Kershaw 2.92 Jimmy Nelson 3.06 Chase Anderson 3.49 Anderson's FIP is not bad, but Nelson's clearly the better performer when the guys on the field with him are removed from the equation. Nelson's K:BB ratio is much better. Jimmy 4.45:1 Chase 2.97:1 Give me the big guy.
  10. Braun was red hot. He goes four days without playing, thanks to giving him a day off when he's already about to get two days off. And now he's 2 for his last 14. /shakes head
  11. A .152 batter. Should.....never mind, not gonna say it.
  12. My friend, Brett, knows Rollie Fingers. Should I put in a call? I am nervous about this last batter.
  13. Thank you, Domingo!! Now, can we close it out in the ninth???
  14. Two more for Thames tonight. 10 homers on the season through 20 games and 3 innings. Wow.
  15. He's got 15 hits and 6 walks in the last ten games. Sustainable or not, he's shown that he can play big boy ball, and I'd rather have him in Milwaukee.
  16. I'm trying to remember if Brauny and Prince were ever as hot at the same time as Braun and Thames have been recently. Jesus. Braun is OPSing 1.100 right now after this recent mashing session, and Thames is laughing at him like he's a rook. I've never seen a hitter as locked in as Thames is right now. Never. He's putting up video game numbers. Oh no, Braun struck out. Down to only 1.088. But he's stealing bases, too. And playing really great defense. This is fun. It won't last forever, but seeing the Cardinals in the cellar while we're a half a game out of first warms the cockles of my heart. :D
  17. I've never looked at the wall roster before, but I just assumed Lew was already in there. Seemed like a no brainer to me.
  18. I know trading him in the offseason might help the club in the long run, but I really want to see him hit #300 in a Brewers uni. Brewers fans haven't had much to cheer about of late, but that would be the first time a Brewer has ever hit 300 homers. Assuming he doesn't hit anymore this year, he'd need 15 next year. If he does hit a few more this season, he could be at 300 by the All Star break. Plus, the guy is still my favorite player. He's human. He made a mistake. I think he's more than made up for it. With all respect to Yount, Cooper and Molitor, he's the best hitter the Milwaukee Brewers have ever had. And, he's still a fantastic player. I know fans of other teams would scoff, but Braun still has a shot at the Hall of Fame. He should clear 400 home runs, and to do it with a lifetime .300 AVG, and well over 1,000 RBI by the time he's done...an MVP, MVP runner up, and a third place finish, maybe his sixth Silver Slugger this year. The guy is building quite a resume.
  19. Love the hypocritical dbags booing Braun in Chicago. Yeah, choke on your knackwurst. You didn't seem to mind a roided up Sammy Sosa going over 60 home runs three times, but Braun uses something one time to heal an injury, and he's the devil. [expletive deleted my moderator]
  20. Man, Braun's been ice cold for a while now. Average dropping like a rock. Guess he needs another day off.
  21. Sucks he broke his wrist. I've broken a wrist three times. No, actually four. It's not fun. The rehab is actually more painful than the break itself. Even with these newfangled casts (my first break I was put into the old plaster cast. Ugh), which are lighter, and easier to live with, the forearm will be immobilized. When the break heals, trying to get strength, and range of motion back, is a pita, and I wasn't a professional athlete. He should be close to 100% by spring training, however. He's young, and has great medical resources with the team. I'm excited to see what he could do next year. While the team is still a long ways off from being serious contenders, just think about how many RBI possibilities there are with him he and Villar a top the lineup. Those guys could steal 100 + bases between them, easily. Get well soon, Keon! I'm very excited to watch you grow as a Major Leaguer!
  22. Brauny with a 3 run homer. Good, pour it on, Brewers! Villar a double short of the cycle. Impressive! I hope he gets it. And, I like what I'm seeing from Big Willy. He's a different pitcher since coming back from the minors.
  23. Spraining your knee and ankle sliding into a wall will do that to ya.
