  1. Brewers (Counsell) said about Burnes that he was 100% going back to the rotation next year. I don't believe they were ever that definitive with Hader. They are rather different too; Hader was barely using two pitches and had control issues, while Burnes has very solid command of 4 pitches and uses them all. He's not a guy they'll use as a reliever long term. So far Burnes has only used fastball and slider though hasn't he? Correct me if I haven't noticed. I understood all 4 were competent and he had control as well so I'm guessing they just feel those two are best and since you're only facing the order once there is no need to get tricky. ....or there's no need to show all four pitches when going through the order >1 time as a reliever?
  2. Waiting on him finding a new fountain of youth a la 2011!!
  3. Gantner was right, you should always use a black bat!
  4. Broxton starting today. And delivers as expected, 0-2, 2 Ks
  5. I may be willing to accept your point if he were actually being contrite about it right now.
  6. Great post, Adam. I have been wondering the same for years and hoping someone would overhaul the minor league instruction.
  7. First round only, if I'm putting money down, it will be Davenport....but hoping and praying Fitzpatrick or James somehow falls/Packers move up to get one of them.
  8. No. Just like Michigan doesn't have one for 2013.
  9. The last two games: 1 for 7 vs. Purdue 1 for 8 vs. Minnesota Not trending the right direction but overall on the season its been good. I think he and Reuvers are hitting the typical frosh wall...which makes Davison's play all the more impressive, considering he's doing it while most likely needing surgery on one of his arms and playing more minutes than the other two. I've been really impressed with Iverson's effort and toughness, especially lately. If he could just improve his shot, he could be a truly excellent college player. I understand Van Vliet leaves some to be desired in other parts of his game, but he does so much for this team offensively when he's out there, the spacing improves greatly...have to find a way to cover up his deficiencies and get him on the floor more.
  10. Which always shocks me that they seem to run very few plays to get him open looks. I know he is a freshman but he looks like he could be a good offensive player for the Badgers. Ford is a nice shooter, but that's really all he's shown the ability to do....been a one-trick pony for the most part, hard to keep guys on the floor like that. Hope he decides to truly dedicate himself to working with Erik Helland in the off-season, gets quite a bit stronger, then plays that way in the future. Illinois just keeps making bad hire after bad hire, I love it.
  11. Last season he led our team in 3-point shooting percentage. Shot 32% in B1G play, he feasted on lower competition...was shooting 30% so far this season.
  12. Since when is Trice a good shooter? He's right-hand dominant (struggles to use/go left) and is too small. He's a liability defensively. He's a back-up PG on any other team in the B1G.
  13. I disagree on the Sophomore class, I don't think Trice is anything more than a guy...Ford has some upside, I agree.
  14. The problem with the JR's is the chicken vs. the egg. Are they untalented, or undeveloped? As I've said all along, we'll know a lot more a year from now. Talent level is meaningless in determining if a player is developing. Regardless the talent, those players have not improved at all.
  15. Currie is the only scholarship player for next year, Hedstrom is coming in next year without a ride and will receive one for the following four years. It's thought that at least one of AI, CT & AVV will transfer/leave, opening up another. Schlundt's is believed to be a one year scholarship only, so there are two definite schollies available for next season, maybe more depending on attrition....problem is, they are striking out on the guys they are going for now. They completely botched this class...Herro's timing was really unfortunate, but wasn't completely unexpected, he had almost decommited back in July.
  16. What player development has this current squad shown? None are any better than the year before. You're counting on something that happened in the past with a vastly superior/more experienced coaching staff. Gard can still coach, that hasn't changed, but I seriously question the rest of the staff's ability. Howard Moore is a joke of a coach, he's there to recruit, and can't really do that. Krabbenhoft is way too inexperienced to have a job at Wisconsin, he should be learning somewhere else and Dean Oliver is too new on the staff to understand how he's going to be, he's the only assistant I'm not convinced is in completely over their head.
  17. Wait a sec....who invented time travel, and why didn't anyone tell me??? http://replygif.net/i/1369.gif
  18. I've seen it twice so far. Hans Zimmer will win an Oscar.
  19. This is CC's doing I'm certain. Stearns, when talking about bringing up Captain Kirk, said they wanted someone "Craig knew and was comfortable with." Need to have those veteran, gritty battlers!
  20. Add Sonny Gray, Straily, and Justin Wilson to the Brewers and I'm not sure we catch the Cubs or take a WC spot and I don't think it helps for the future either. The second best thing Stearns can do today (the first best would be to flip Swarzak and other pieces) is to stand pat. I'm with you on this, and I'll add besides Swarzak, I would shop Knebel (closers' shelf lives are really short) and Thames to see who might bite. Sell high on guys now that aren't part of the big picture down the road.
  21. Agreed that if a deal with the Tigers involves the Crew taking on most if not all of bad contracts, no real prospects should be involved. Haven't seen anyone really mention Zimmerman, I'd rather gamble on him as a change of scenery guy than Verlander. How about a "blockbuster" of Kinsler/Zimmerman/Fulmer for Phillips/Villar/Ortiz/Diplan and Milwaukee eats the two contracts? I accept the fact that it's far-fetched, but what the heck...
  22. Just saw that Correa is going to be out six to eight weeks minimum. They are in the middle of a win now season, any chance that they would be interested, would love to dip back into their farm again.
  23. Almost all businesses operate on a budget, usually annual. Braun's salary in future seasons will be a part of that budget, unless it gets moved sooner as a "prepaid expense". If the Brewers pay it earlier then they would discount that for the time value of money - it wouldn't cost "millions more". Discounting $19M (2019 salary) for two years at 5% per year yields a net present value of ~$17,200,000, or a difference of $1.76M. If you were to offer to split that with Braun evenly it would cost $880K, and I'm sure Braun would jump at it. Discounting Braun's 2020 salary ($17M) by three years at 5%/year yields $14,685,000 net present value. I don't think the OP was intending to entirely pre-pay it, but to front-load some of it so the future salaries (that will count against future budgets) will be reduced, allowing for the addition of more players/salary expense in those future season's budgets. Most businesses set their budget based on how much they have to spend. If they take the same money they are saving now and invest it that money will grow so they can set a higher budget later. If they just give it to Braun now all the money that investment would have made is lost. Which is what the calculation he did allows for...part of it is inflation, part of it is opportunity cost. It would have to be a bigger number than 5%, but the calculation can be made.

Well-stated Louis, thank you. Yes, this is what I meant.
