  1. It is so odd, but I was thinking this exactly. I started following the Crew since day 1, in 1970. I am 58. I think they will be on some up, that I can enjoy, before I am at that big diamond in the sky. But, just in my mind came, 'poor Ueck, he deserves so much better'. I am actually ashamed at the embarrassment that Ueck must have to put up with.
  2. I like the lineup, given what we have available. Love ARam down to 6. Our 3-4-5 batters will be here next year (if we want Lind back). Segura gets a chance to establish himself. Maldy I am looking forward to showing he can bat. I like it.
  3. I am on the Hank line as well. What you do, is you teach Hank how to hold a bat, and crouch in his stance. He is in the lineup at right field. He leads off every away game. After his walk he steals 2nd then 3rd. Then you replace him with Ryan Braun. Hank then has a beer in the dugout and they can cross to him to get his opinion on matters of this and that.
  4. To me the key here is to draft (late) many young, not yet grown, 165 pound, mid 80s guys. Then if you get a couple or three that go from mid 80s to 95 (already under your control), you have hope. In any case, the story reads well!
  5. from http://www.goupstate.com/article/20140607/ARTICLES/140609668?p=1&tc=pg Earls, a 6-foot-5 junior right-hander, was followed closely all season by Brewers scouts and was asked to come to a pre-draft workout May 29 at Miller Park in Milwaukee. He said he got another phone call Friday night from the team but heard nothing Saturday — until the cheer from inside the house. “I knew the Brewers really liked me, especially after that workout in Milwaukee,” Earls said. “I had also talked to the Braves and the Mets, but I really felt like the Brewers would take me.” Earls pitched 82 innings with three complete games this season for Limestone, posting a 4.15 ERA and striking out 87 batters. It was a drastic increase in pitch speed during the past year that caught the eyes of scouts. He went from mid-80s as a sophomore to a consistent low-90s as a junior and hit 95 mph on the radar gun during a game in which Brewers and Braves scouts were present. “I haven't played summer ball since American Legion (Post 109 in Gaffney) after my freshman year of college,” Earls said. “After my sophomore year, I decided to just work out and long-toss. I threw with Michael Wright (Gaffney High/SMC) three times a week and did a lot of running. I gained a lot of muscle weight, too, and went from 165 pounds to 190. That made a huge difference in momentum toward the plate. … Next thing I knew, I had a bunch of scouts impressed with me.”
  6. I think (hope) the AAA thin air is responsible for the AAA horror ERAs. Do we wish now we had sent Thornburg to the Mets for Ike Davis. Ike had an OPS in the 700s last year, much better than our first base. And Ike is .884 so far this year. And Ike even pitched the other day for the A's. Sits in the high 80s, with a cutter and two seamer and four seamer and slider. And Ike, I read, is superior defensively. Oh, well, you would never want young talent looking to bounce back. Go with the old vet who 'may' give you one more year of average performance at triple the average price. Are we sure Mark is a successful business man? He sure does not seem to know much about acquiring stuff at a good price and selling at a high price. He seems to only know about acquiring shiny, overpriced stuff, whilst giving up his future
  7. Is this some sort of double meaninged sentence Mass: "Kodi Medeiros and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers' manager Matt Erickson join the show"
  8. If he gets his control, then I declare Jimmy Nelson the next Mike Mussina,
  9. ...on to the minor league LINK REPORT and dream of the future
  10. That is indeed the thing the Crew does best... swing at pitches outside the zone.... and fangraphs tracks it, so it verifiable.... what we see.... and our managers and coaches cannot see... is fact
  11. Darn. Maybe WE can hit number four. To get 'close', but no cigar.
  12. Thank goodness we have that six run (as I type) cushion again. Now our batter can relax. No pressue
  13. We have a huge chance to be on all the sports shows!
  14. This is so much more fun than the normal 5-1 loss.
  15. Lee, you pic (comment) is the best of all time. PS, you do know we will never, never, never win this game. Now that we are close the collars will tighten and we will finish were we are destined.
  16. Rogers has always been a first baseman. Lord knows why our management continue to put players in any old position. It must be frustrating for a decent player to be put in a position of FAILURE. I would love to a see Roger/Clark platoon at first (after we trade Lind). But that would confuse RR and Doug. Playing first basemen at first base. What a novel idea!
  17. Wheh! That was close. If we had hit a ball out of the infield, we may have been able to crawl back into the game. There is TOO MUCH PRESSURE on the guys to put them through a close game or even a winning game. It is very good we always can stay behind at least four runs. That way there is no expectations on anyone. Let me predict we give up two or three more runs, THEN we can score two or three. But NEVER NEVER get close or in the lead. We dont want to put undue pressure on our players. It is very important they pick up their millions, but not have undue trauma to take into their post baseball lives.
  18. please, please Rogers... 4 for 5, the cycle, and make 12 assists at third base... 11 of them spectacular c'mon Seggy... we need a couple hits, so we can get trade value for you c'mon Elian... have a good game, you are the perfect 25th man for the next four years c'mon Fiers, please show us a MLB pitcher... please... we need you in the future There is heaps to like about this lineup. I mean there can be future tib bits about it.
  19. Great insights gentlepeople. But alas, the management and owners will only resort to hand wringing. And trying to find the next 'excuse'. One thing I disagree with: a public rebuild should NOT cause the fan base to disintegrate. As a fan, I would LOVE to see a team of youngsters (with upside, please) have a chance to develop and be a good team in two or three years. And then I dont care if they all leave on their way to the Yankees and Dodgers and Angels and Cubs. Because you just do it all again. This idea that you put a team on the field that has NO FUTURE disgusts me. Right now I am rooting for Segura to show what he can be. Davis I hope he becomes Nelson Cruz. Nelson and Peralta I hope will do well and our young bullpen guys. But for all the guys that are old and playing like they are old... and dont care... well, I dont care. The management have once again given out the vibes that it really does not matter the results. And a lot of the team have picked up on that. I guess the hitting coach we canned (to solve our problem) is a famous 'he who laughs last, laughs best' Oh, and Fiers. I barrack for him. You see, you can put on a 50 112 team IF they are young and all have a go and learning and growing. I can accept that and see a future. And I feel part of something. What do I feel part of now: old, washed up guys who dont care and young guy with little talent (you can have one or two... but that is not the future). I am tired of this organisation. Even if they were to win 20 in a row, I dont trust them. If a group of young guys won 5 in a row, then I would trust them and the future. Our team and management... I dont trust them.
  20. I was really grumpy Lucroy started at first base the other day, and not Rogers. The upside of this is: last time Maldy had a starting gig, he batted really, really well. If we get a month of Maldy with a .750 OPS it paints a different picture of our future. Or at least our options. And dont forget this Centano. He is only 25, I think. And RR liked him in spring training (the kiss of death?). He is a bit odd, re his splits, In 2014 and 2013 he is MUCH better re left hand pitchers. And Juan is a lefty bat. I wonder if RR knows these stats.
  21. OH, bugger. I did not read the thread title. My hope (optimism) is that the Crew can trade EVERY guy not ticketed to be in 2017. I want to watch 20 rookies + the leftovers we do not trade - in hoping we find a rookie who sticks. Let us find the next Corey Hart and Nelson Cruz and Jimmy Nelson and Peralta and Henderson, etc etc. Let us have a team of young guys loving to be in The Show. Rather than all our old, past date, 'get me out of here', guys.
  22. Hang on, 'stache. If you are all gun ho re Braun, why are you trying to trade him and hope the other guy in your fantasy league will 'bite'. You sound a bit like a GM talking up his man preparing to TRADE HIM. You dont really believe. You are looking for an OUT.
