  1. Not sure who said the sky is falling over the last two games. The concern is whether the offense is likely to produce against the best pitchers on a playoff team. Scoring 10 runs in the ninth inning against a bottom of the bullpen pitcher and a catcher are not very relevant to that.
  2. https://www.mlb.com/news/brewers-lose-rubber-game-against-cardinals If Murphy posted here he would be blasted not just for his personnel moves but for being too pessimistic.
  3. Might have realized the Brewers were never going to score and decided to pull, the plug.
  4. Since Sunday the Brewers have had 6 innings with a free runner on second and have scored one run to pick up 3 losses that put a dent in their hopes of earning a bye. I have very little confidence that this offense is going to produce against the best pitchers on playoff teams. Lost 5 of the last 7 against the Cardinals who I’ve heard all season are a terrible team.
  5. Don’t want to see extra innings. The Brewers offense starting with the free runner on second has left something to be desired lately.
  6. So far this game has the feel of the Brewers going through the motions to get to the off day.
  7. There wasn’t even a judgment aspect to that play. By the clear definition of a “catch” in the rules, that wasn’t one.
  8. If they call this a catch it’s a bastardation of the rules.
  9. If Contreras tries to bunt you might hear me screaming if you’re within 50:miles from here.
  10. Skenes may be wearing down, or maybe the Cubs are learning something about him as they face him for the 4th time. Last week the Cubs made him work to get through 5 innings with 80 some pitches. They only scored 3 runs against Skenes but exploded against the bullpen in the last 3 innings. Tonight Skenes has managed to get through 3 scoreless innings, but he’s thrown 77 pitches while surrendering 4 hits and 4 walks. I wouldn’t think the Bucs would want him to labor much longer.
  11. I think I predicted something like 78, which was right in line with the projections on sites like Fangraphs.
  12. Two freaking playoff games would be two more than the 78 and 79 Brewers got for winning 93 and 95 games. They aren’t going to cut down on the number of playoff teams, shorten the season, or have the playoffs run deep into November. So, at some point the only solution is to win playoff games.
  13. That does matter in the wild card race.
  14. Time to start rooting for the Mets and Braves to start winning games to keep the Cubs from moving up to the last Wild card spot.
  15. I’m talking about how they would come up with win-loss projections for teams.
  16. These address projections for individual player performance, but I’ve always wondered how well projections for a team’s future performance account for things like injuries and other personnel changes that might make a team significantly better or worse than their past performance might suggest.
  17. One of the several reasons I wouldn’t want to see the Brewers play the Cubs in the first round is that it would largely negate the home crowd advantage the Brewers would have against anyone else.
  18. One of the worst ideas to bunt followed by a terrible bunt. Cleanup hitter with runners in first and third and one out. Unbelievable.
  19. Good to get that one in the bank after burning out the bullpen.
  20. That’s probably the best 4+ innings the Reds bullpen has put together in a long time.
  21. He still might be. Anyone who has rolled an ankle knows that it will feel worse later. Even if he makes it to the end of this game I assume he will be out tonight and then see how it is tomorrow.
  22. No, he should have put a ball in play instead of swinging at pitches a foot out of the zone.
  23. Warm day in a bandbox park against a team that is scoring and giving up a lot of runs. Better plan on scoring 10 if you want to win.
