And my point remains that saying that a batter had tough luck just because the xBA is high is flawed logic. I only brought the second one up because the xBA on that one was even higher than on the first one and nobody has said, or probably could say with a straight face, that Turang had bad luck on that weak blooper I guess we have to agree to disagree on that.

When did I make a fuss about Ortiz’s line out? I don’t remember mentioning it at all.

Except that, when people cite an xBA on this site they are almost always, if not always, using it to make the point that the hitter was hitting in bad luck. I didn't feel that way about Turang's soft liner in the 7th or his blooper in the 9th. I think I do understand what the numbers mean, or maybe more importantly, what they don't mean.

Because nobody had this handy, I went to Baseball Savant and looked up the xBA on the blooper that Turang hit that ended the game. It said it was .920. If that doesn't tell you that those numbers cannot be taken as gospel, if they should be taken seriously at all, nothing will.

What was the xBA on that blooper that Turang hit to end the game? If there hadn’t been a SS there it would have been a hit.

It amazes me that the Brewers are shut out for the second time in three days and people are complaining about how the pitchers have been handled . This is like watching a soccer team that plays the whole game hoping or a 0-0 tie so they can win on penalty kicks.

I am not a disciple of those XBA numbers. They don’t seem to take into iaccount a player hitting the ball exactly where the defense expects him to hit it. That ball was sinking before it reached the SSwho didn’t have to move or jump to catch it.

4 runs on 13 hits is a decent game, but it’s a horrible weekend. Any hopes that the Brewers offensive woes from May were behind them have been dashed.

He did leave Uribe in to face Machado last night and he ripped a single. Maybe leave Peralta in, pitch to him carefully and accept a walk.

The Padres are one of the few NL playoff contenders that score fewer runs than the Brewers, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that runs in this series have been so hard to come by.
