  1. I understand that. But if people don’t understand that the reaction to losing 3 straight games to the hated rival that is chasing your team for a division title is going to be stronger than losing 3 straight to almost any other team, especially another decent team, that’s too bad.
  2. I can’t buy the idea that the Cubs are “who you want to lose to”. That’s like telling an Ohio State football fan that Michigan is the kind of team you want to lose to.
  3. Yes, the Cubs have a good pitching staff. As will teams in the playoffs. The runs aren’t going to come as easily against playoff teams as they do against the bullpens of teams like the Pirates and Nationals. I think the whiners are the people who make excuses for losses by complaining about umpiring, and citing things like exit velocity and “deserve to win” measures only when the team loses. It’s baseball. Not “let’s see who can hit the ball the hardest right at the defense”. This team will be tested in the weeks ahead by how they respond when not everything is going their way.
  4. Yes, close LOW SCORING games which gets back to my point earlier about concerns about the hitting. Going back to Saturday, and not counting runs scored in extra innings that are aided by the free runner, and the Brewers have scored 2, 2, 7, 4, 1, and 3. That looks like a slump for a team that is near the top of the league in scoring. If the hitters can’t turn things around soon it’s going to be trouble, especially against better teams. I share the comments some have made raising the concern that this might be a preview of the Brewers playoff offense.
  5. But we’re talking about run differential, and my point is that those 4 runs are the main reason the Brewers have outscored the Cubs in the series.
  6. BTW, I saw comments on here about Misioroski going to the bullpen. IMHO he needs to go to Nashville and see if he can learn how to throw strikes again. In the bullpen what role would he have that can’t be filled by Anderson? Maybe if he can get straightened out he could be considered for the pen. But right now I wouldn’t trust him with any kind of lead.
  7. It is meaningless when you apply it to a small number of games. The runs the Brewers scored against the Cubs throwaway pitcher on Monday pad the total.
  8. This series has been sitting there like the sword of Damocles through this whole winning streak. I wasn’t going to feel good until, this series and the rest of the 19 game/18 day stretch was over. Tomorrow’s game feels like a formality just like some of those series over the years when the Cardinals would win 3 or 4; in a row by doing whatever it would take to win. The 7 game homestand is going to be critical for the Brewers to get their mojo back. I’m not feeeling good about the Brewers chances of not losing ground when they finish this stretch with series against the Blue Jays and Phillies while the Cubs are playing the likes of the Rockies, Nats, and Braves.
  9. I was always concerned that if the Brewers ran into a rough stretch it would be because the offense gets shut down. And it looks like that time is here. This is 6 straight games with not much hitting. Can’t always count on opponents mistakes to produce runs. Their one big inning in this series was handed to them by the Cubs 27th player and Counsell’s decision to let the guy die on the mound. I really miss the days when nobody knew about exit velocity.. now it becomes an excuse. Sharply hit ground balls right into the teeth of the defense by a slow runner have always been classic DP bal
  10. Did you ask if the Brewers have the division race locked up? The answer to both questions should be the same.
  11. I wish I had confidence that Misioroski could give them 4 or 5 good innings, but he seems to have lost the rhythm he had when he first came up. His command has been terrible.
  12. No, they’d be fine. We were assured at the deadline that the Brewers didn’t need to improve their depth in the infield and that Monasterio and Siegler are sufficient.
  13. It was a hypothetical example. But if the Brewers win 2 more they would have a 9 game lead that would really be 10 because they would have the tiebreaker.
  14. But at the end of the season there are no half games. If the Cubs are 5 games behind the Brewers after Thursday, they would have to gain 5 more the rest of the way to catch up and win the division. By any accounting that’s a 5 game lead.
  15. Taillon is the worst starter the Brewers were going to face in this series and the offense has disappeared.
  16. That is wrong. With the tiebreaker it’s 5. If the team with the lead has the tiebreaker it’s one more. Think of it as the number of games the trailing team would have to gain.
  17. The Brewers have squandered the pitching advantage they had coming into this game. So they’ll have to come up with another way to win this one. The big hits have not been coming so far in this series.
  18. To a lot of posters, “concern” or any feeling that something isn’t wrapped up, equals “panic”.
  19. “Panic” has to be one of the most overused and misused words on sports message boards.
  20. The Brewers really need to jump on Tallion for some early runs. He’s probably not going to be in too long before Counsell goes to a, lefty. Also need 6 strong innings from Woodruff. This is the best pitching matchup the Brewers will have in this series and they need to take advantage of it.
