  1. What are Suppan's career splits, Brewers and non-Brewers? Seriously, they can't be very good. Suppan's career 3.29 ERA vs. Milwaukee is the 13th lowest since 1974 (125 or more IP). Suppan G GS W L IP H R ER HR BB K ERA career 317 301 106 101 1864.7 2029 1042 954 247 612 1048 4.60 vs Brewers 21 20 12 2 128.7 124 49 47 13 35 85 3.29 all others 296 281 94 99 1736.0 1905 993 907 234 577 963 4.70
  2. Taking a look at Jason Schmidt's top ten comps through age 33 at baseball-reference.com is pretty scary. They include 2 guys who never played past 33 (Jack McDowell and Ramon Martinez), 2 guys who have just finished their age 33 season (Bartolo Colon and Chan Ho Park) and six other guys who averaged 3 seasons, 60 starts and 4.62 ERA for their career beyond 33.
  3. ZiPS is supposed to be more of a quick-and-dirty method than other projection methods like PECOTA. Kind of like how OPS isn't as accurate as something like Runs Created or Linear Weights, but it still does a pretty good job.
  4. For reference's sake, the 2006 ZiPS Brewers' projections can be found here.
  5. While Baseball Think Factory is having issues with their site, you can still reach the Brewers' ZiPS projections here ZiPS believes in Sheets, but doesn't show much love for anyone else.
  6. Only five RHPs under 6' have started 150 games over the last 20 years: Pedro Martinez, Mike Boddicker, Tom Gordon, Cory Lidle and Ricky Bones.
  7. Hope Ueck gives a glowing description of him on the radio. I can't hear Ueck at all on MLB.com. The Houston stream is working fine. Anyone else having problems with the TMJ stream?
  8. Anyone out there using Lee Sinins' Sabermetric Encyclopedia? I've been having been having some problems with the latest version and was wondering if anyone else was experiencing similar problems.
  9. Espn tracked productive outs for one year, but since they lacked correlation to the good teams, they dropped the stat you mean like how Anaheim led the league in productive outs when the won the Series? Boston won the World Series last year despite striking out more than any other team in baseball. Are you going to argue that striking out goes hand-in-hand with winning? Seriously, dude, you need a lot more than one example for correlation.
  10. You mean TMJ was actually talking Brewers? When they could have been talking Packers, Badgers or Bucks? And such high-quality Brewer talk it was . Carlos Lee is the MVP, we should trade Wes Helms, all we need is a high-priced player, etc etc.
  11. Where's the pregame show? I'm listening to MLB Gameday Audio and it just appears to be a couple of idiots on TMJ talking Brewers and taking calls. Did the game get delayed?
  12. That's pretty awesome. Can anyone think of a reason this (all five game series) isn't a good idea? A minor league manager once told me in the middle of an eight game home-and-home series (i.e. a four games at home followed by four on the road, same two teams playing each other) that he hated playing more than three games against the same team. He said after three games the players really start to get sick of each other and the odds of a brawl or beanball war are much higher. Sure enough, we had a big brawl before the home-and-home series was over.
  13. While we're getting commercials today on MLB Audio, the delay appears to be much shorter. It's actually ahead of CBS GameCenter.
  14. How many home runs has Uecker jumped the gun on this week?
  15. This is the first game that I've heard commercials on MLB Audio as well.
  16. Why would you root against a prospect of his calibur? I'm just not totally convinced that JJ should be called up yet, and it appears the only way he's going back to AAA is to put up some lousy spring training numbers. Since the Brewers aren't going to contend this year, what's the rush to start his arby clock? Not to mention he's been out of action for quite a while. Why not see how things go in Nashville and if he's tearing up the PCL come June, give him the job. On the other hand... another Brewers ROY award wouldn't be bad. Of course my feelings may be subconsciously clouded by the fact that I'll likely see more Sounds games than Brewers games this year.
  17. No. Why would we want Hall at SS the whole year? A few months at Nashville could be the difference to trading JJ for prospects during the 2010 season, rather than 2009.
  18. Anyone else out there horribly conflicted about whether to root for or against Hardy this spring?
  19. The MIL link is asking me to pay as well.
  20. 11. JOSH WAHPEPAH, rhp, Helena Brewers Age: 20 Ht: 6-5 Wt: 195 B-T: R-R Drafted/Signed: Brewers '04 (3) One of the top draft-and-follows this spring after the Tigers took him in the 18th round last June, Wahpepah turned down Detroit before getting redrafted in the third round by the Brewers and signing for $400,000. He was tired and had his workload monitored carefully this summer, but the life in his arm was evident. A full-blooded Native American, Wahpepah pitches off a heavy sinker that sat between 88-92 mph in the PL and touched 95 mph during the spring. His slider has the potential to become a plus pitch, while his changeup needs refinement. Wahpepah has a very deceptive delivery that makes it difficult for hitters to pick up his pitches. But scouts aren't crazy about his arm action, wondering if it will prevent him from improving his control and secondary offerings.
  21. What's this young team Tony's talking about?
