  1. Ned astute enough to put Geoff in the 3 hole? cash lotto ticket! Fleeting is his streak gawdy are his statistics to carry the team Good old number 5 comes to mash mash for August vet'ran leadership Righty to slaughter no 55 foot sliders crooked Crew numbers
  2. First time here... I like this place. Let me give it a whirl... We are not the Pittsburgh Pirates.
  3. First year watching baseball, is it? What's life like on your home planet? On earth, it happens all the time. Yikes there Snippy. I thought the Dessens "injury" time and rehabilitation assignment timetable were rather coincidentally arranged to benefit the Brewers.
  4. Jenkins you grizzly Lifer: Captain of Coors, Maestro of mojo, Ringleader of the roadtrip, Vindicator of Vargas, Sultan of streakiness... now is your time... this is still your team. Make Mark pick up that $8M option like he's picking up tech stocks. Is Ned astute enough to put Geoffrey at the 5 hole? stack the lefties, ride the crest of this wave! Not too excited about the Vargas pu pu platter: I think Spurling gets 2, Villy 1 and Leinies closes it out. But these darn tootin western time zone games will be a nice respite... wake up in the morning and check the box scores like the days of yore.
  5. wow! just checking in a little late. I see the Crew up 4 - nil and I wondered which 3 players hit taters. Go Neo-Wallbangers! Love to see the doubles parade.
  6. I would always wait until a walk off opportunity to run a squeeze. Oh, ok... I see. Nothing doing there tonight either.
  7. Miller-Fielder squeeze? You see that guy barrel through catchers, right? I could think of no one more perfect... should that situation have arrived that is.
  8. No. No specific play. I was, uh, just thinking about it tonight... and how Yost used to like to do it a lot. Was there a situation tonight that was perfect for it or something?
  9. Where has it been this year? Nice time to reach down and grab em Ned. Thanks Jake Taylor for not signaling down for it.
  10. Burgleflicker, being in that clubhouse has to royally suck right now. i may choose to truly believe all of this 'even keel yost/cox don't rock the boat stay calm philosophy' bologna sausage if the eye of the tiger comes out tonite and here is why: after the matinee loss, and I'm yost... I am locked in my office smashing drywall and screaming. but no, this club is built around "it's another loss, stay cool, keep your head, go get em the next day." But if you are taught to suppress your emotion after a loss... what happens to your emotion after a win? The emotion roller coaster is too violent and not sustainable over 162 games... but it's time to throw a chair. I am real curious as to who in the clubhouse right now is steaming mad and getting in Cordero's face... anyone? Is that part of the problem?
  11. "...You win baseball games with Pitching, Speed and Defense..." - old man pushing a broom. Nowhere in that venerable quote do you see minor league prospects. The backlash had Mark, Doug, Ned & Associates, LLC stood pat at the trade deadline would have been outrageous... bemoaning complacency, timidness and small marketness. "oh, but look at the cubs, look at the cubs they got kendall". And let the record show Doug did not make a move just for the sake of making a move... this team is better, and how. Now. Buckle up boys and girls there are 60 games left. Now about that speed and defense...
  12. Bad place to mention Thatcher pitched a perfect inning with a K for his Major League debut? (albeit it was mop-up, not like the situations we put Grant in) The only thing making me feel better about this trade is that the bullpen becomes "better than the sum of its individual parts." Call it comaraderie, professionalism, competetiveness, the challenge, call it what you will. In short, I can see Turnbow and Cordero (and others) getting better - because they are around Leinies... I don't see Derrick and Francis learning a whole lot from Balfour. I don't pretend to unilaterally know the psychology of the bullpen pitcher... if they are pitching for themselves, pitching to impress the others, competing against one another, etc... but Linebrink must have the "been-around the 500 saves guy" vibe & aura going for him that will surely rub off. The comments coming from Hoffman, Peavy and Wells also make me feel warm and fuzzy... ?The best,? Wells said. ?Just being around him made you better..." Average age of 30 over there in the pen... akin to Villy jumping from high school to a Masters program. EDIT: Thatcher got Ensberg looking at strike 3, popped up Jason lane and Eric Bruntlett grounded out.
  13. Letting Counsell swing away at the first pitch with none out and a runner on first in a tie game. Blech baseball players DO NOT get micro-managed on a swing-by-swing what's the count managerial dictatorship basis.
  14. the people here clammoring for the 'A' line-up against the (worst NL team) Cincy Reds are disillusioned. Mets, sure. Cubs, yeah... play em all. If we can't split the series while giving the A Team (where Prince is BA Barackus, of course) a rest... we need to be making other plans for October. Softball isn't even a sport anyways.
  15. 166 RBIs sitting on our bench as opposed to 65 on theirs...
  16. Seattle at Texas last night, Mariners up 1, bottom 8: Reliever X on for the hold gives up a single and a sac bunt. In comes Super-Closer J.J. Putz! (gives up the lead, but convention / protocol / unwritten rule be damned) Just so everyone knows there are managers who will use their closer on the road in the bottom of the eighth... to make sure there is a game to save come bottom nine. Don't want to divert the thread, but it's similar to swinging on a 3 - 0 count. More often than not the bat is on the shoulder, despite knowledge that a meatball is headed your way. Makes sense? No. Conventional? Yes.
  17. Another wow from over here. The obligatory 'LOVE IT' too. I followed all of the Padres' box scores for the first [what seems like] third of the year when Bell, Meredith, Linebrink and Hoffman had the scoreless innings streak. Giving up a possible maybe for a sure thing is anti-Brewers, but then again, see my signature. Awesome!
  18. I'm just glad we don't have to watch Gwynn's weak grounders to the second baseman for a while. What about when we need a runner moved over? Huh?
  19. Has anybody noticed how that AAA bad pitcher guy we have up here... well his last name can be arranged in comical ways to denote a base on balls!? LOL! I "Grant you Ball-Four"... oh I could go on all day like that. I have noticed that the Crew hasn't had a real need this year for the Donkey Dessens mop-up monkey role. Never seem to be blown out in the 2nd inning and have a rubber armer go in there... and when we do go up by 5 or more Yost just throws Wise in there to make sure people are paying attention. If I am Tony I am slightly peeved. Accomodating the Hall of Fame duties he's got? Might be lessed then thrilled.
  20. 1. Weekanino 2. Hardsell 3. Hartnch 4. Braunski 5. Field... uh, Fielder 6. Nixkens 7. Hall Jr. 8. Pitcher 9. Millada
  21. seems like one of those games where Dave Bush will wind up playing right field.
  22. Paul Bako, Chad Moeller, Henry Blanco, Dave Nillson... ANYONE! please! at least all those guys "played the right way"
  23. What is the opposite of "Everyday Eddie" Guardado? How about: "Once-a-Week" Wise?
