  1. I will be there tonight; I am outspoken when it comes to Geoff. I will not boo. I will not cheer. I will fold thine arms across thine chest. Are there 2 bench players available? Yovanni to pinch-hit?
  2. funny how we just got 3 straight days of brenneman in cincy saying since there is not a save opportunity for the home team in a tie game, you start by using your best relievers to extend the tie and work towards the worst (that's why they went Cordero / Weathers / etc)
  3. Turnbow = http://www.sterlingnets.com/baseball_web/bt020.jpg
  4. someone send an archaeologist out to the bullpen to look for the elusive turnbow fossil. man.
  5. wouldn't this have been a good opportunity to shut up Turnbow and his agent? is he still alive or is he already in Detroit?
  6. Gagne is on my fantasy team and I need saves. Still I don't like this.
  7. I would give Shouse the save opportunity. For reasons of the lefty heavy line-up and these clowns have already gotten 2 looks at Gagne. As far as Prince bunting goes... take the player's name and the player's place in the batting order completely out of context to see. runners 1st and 2nd with no outs; need a run. 99 times out of 100 you see a sacrifice. but as soon as you know it's the biggest power hitter and the clean-up spot and all of a sudden it doesn't make baseball sense.
  8. tie game at home does not have a save situation; you use your relievers in "reverse" order - best to worst.
  9. this thing needs to get locked in a hurry. there was bonus FOX coverage, wouldn't have seen it otherwise, yesterday of the Mets - Phillies, and sure enough nostalgia strikes when who but Geoff steps to the plate with the bases loaded and a chance to put down a division rival. Old 9-iron judiciously works the count to 3-1... knows that something has to come into the zone; juicy fastball! and the uppercut swing I've seen so too many times - looking as good as ever - results in strike 2. The righty Heilman, I believe, no gasser by any standard, grooves another fastball with the count full and just for good measure, 125 yards from the green, the same club comes out of the bag, the same K I've seen hundreds of times before. but as long as I'm here, I contend that no Brewer ever did less with more. No Brewer improved less from year to year than he. No Brewer had fans duped on "loyalty kool-aid" more than he. No Brewer covered his yearly ineffectiveness with a SIZZLING 8 game stretch more deceptively than he. I was really glad to see him yesterday.
  10. Mota earns his keep; probably doesn't feel guilty about picking up his paycheck like Gross does.
  11. Reds offense at Great American...? 4 runs is equivalent to Heidi Montag's IQ
  12. the finger tendon bone is connected to the... muscle behind the shoulder that isn't quite the shoulder bone... that bone's connected to the tricep bone the tricep bone is connected to the inner ear bone the inner ear bone is connected to the hamstring bone. OY
  13. This is an interesting angle... basically, if a player feels he is "outperforming" his contract (with too many years left on it for not enough money) (and of course the team wants that to happen) then the player approaches the team for restructuring. That gives the team another opportunity to extend years to the deal while adding money to the here and now. A 7 year deal seems silly now, but in year 4 when he wants more dough... you pony up said dough for 5, 6 and 7... but you use your leverage to make sure you have the 8th and 9th too.
  14. I hope Gabriel enjoyed his cup of coffee... er, entire Starbucks franchise as the case may be.
  15. Last night I posted that Yost's least redeeming / most damning quality is his donkey-like stubbornness. I am going to delay any comment retracting this platform of mine until Corey is batting in front of Billy. Yes, great that #1 is 5-holing, but I need to see him there when Mr. 50% of my consonants are Ls is in there too. I wish my boss would give me a day off to relax.
  16. good night wednesday IGT... look forward to reading the recap of the comeback tomorrow morning.
  17. the undiscernable white noise in the background is starting to coalesce into whispers... the Yost grumbling; the Simmons chants coming from afar. If anybody needs "a day off to relax" it's Billy-rally killing-Hall. His contributions / production is SO ENORMOUSLY skewed by his 2 HR / 6 RBI day. My biggest problem with his at-bats was that they just so utterly destroyed an inning's potential (as most double plays tend to do). Without getting too crazy into a line-up thread... why not reward Dillon for putting together (surprise!) the best at-bats againt the Cards? 2 slot or 5 hole...either is justifiable. But the Ned Yost uber-stubbornness remains his least endearing quality.
  18. From the Trib, for what it's worth: "... Soriano began doing the hop when he made his conversion from second base to the outfield in spring training of 2006 with Washington. He had trouble making catches on routine flies, so he decided to add a little hop before making the catch to help with his concentration. "I came up with that because every time in batting practice [when] I was waiting for a ball to come down I'd drop it," Soriano said in an interview last year. "I said to myself, 'I don't want to wait for the ball to come to me. I'll get it.' " ..."
  19. man, down year for closers so far... gagne's & hoffman's first rough couple, borowski, saito last night, valverde coughs up a 3-0 tonite
  20. This is all carry-over from the Fielder - Pujols beaning exchange... All off-season, Yost stewed and stewed to the point where he had to do the P batting 8th thing... ...all leading to tonight's game so Bush could break the LOB record.
  21. 2B double play turning difficulty = 6.25 Rickie made it look like a 2
  22. I think it would be cool to have a camera set up in Cameron's hotel room... just lounging on the bed, destroying the mini-bar, perusing a periodical perhaps, following him down to the pool or over to the ice machine with an MLB.tv iPhone, studying pitching charts with some reading glasses...
  23. Except for the Overbay deal. That's probably a topic for another day though. Rickie is the key to this ignition.
