  1. Pile on, boo. Pile off, praise. Net balance
  2. grace, aplomb, sauveness... thy name is Mench
  3. my morale is very low. i need some dingers. i want Braun to wrap up July Rookie of the Month tonite with 4 tater bombs and 12 RBIs.
  4. well, that about wraps up the wildcard. i have been silently munching crow since ben was around 4 - 3 and i wrote: "I will be a Sheets detractor until I see 20 wins in a season or 2 in a single playoff series" and the crow was tasting great on that cresting wave. crash. looks like it will have to be the latter in my scenario.
  5. ushers should roll out a mannequin to 3rd base with road greys on... seems like Francis gets very serious with a runner there KNOCK ON WOOD!
  6. down 6 - 7, astros bases loaded with 2 outs edit: full count strike-out
  7. now the cubs are hitting home runs in addition to their station-to-station run scoring ability. harumph.
  8. I got a good feeling about Jenks today. Me too, I was hoping he was in there today... with Mench being packaged up with nugs for Gagne. (a guy can dream) Has anyone else seen those 'We are all Witnesses' T-shirts for... Brewers production or independent T-shirt operator? What you lack in originality you make up for with capital, right? Blatant rip-off of Cleveland / LeBron, right?
  9. Braun needs 4.4 plate appearances in each of the remaining 73 games to qualify for the batting title. Short of that, he'll need a big enough batting average buffer to absorb the "hitless penalty" at-bats to get him up to the magic 502. NL June Rookie of the Month is having a sick July. Corey Hart is having a day-off-less, stolen-base-less, .184 BA July.
  10. His problem is the spot he's hitting in the order. They can afford to throw him breaking pitch after breaking pitch with the pitcher batting behind him. Put Weeks ahead of Braun and Fielder and he will catch fire in no time. Not much more to add here; I just think JBriggs is right-on enough to deserve a bump, and before I posted this thought myself I wanted to read the thread - finding my idea on page 1. How far can bat speed and a "waggle" get you in the majors when you never figured out breaking stuff in the minors? How much of Braun's .350 has he himself associated with the fastball diet served pre-Prince meat? How devastated / disillusioned would Prince be if Rickie was the centerpiece of a trade? Swap JJ and Rickie in the order to save Prince. It's all about Prince.
  11. 2 - 6 July record... talk about stumbling into the break. My finger pointing goes to Corey Hart... how about playing all 8 games and batting .176 (6-34) with 1 walk and 0 stolen bases from the lead-off spot, yet flying completely under the radar because of his hitting streak. Rickie - 7 Ks a - Weeks and his .053 (1-19) July hasn't really helped much either. there is only so much Braun and Fielder can do. crap.
  12. When was Corey's last day off? May? His hitting streak has disguised a 5 - 30 July... Guess he'll get a lot of rest starting tomorrow, but that's why TGJ is up here right?
  13. I like the 5 - 2 Jeff guy a lot more than the 2 - 5 Jeff character
  14. thanks Joe... i just got my first look. Soriano hit it onto Waveland, knew he got it all. And I am actually torn here. Part of me thinks he was being a punk, and the other part thinks he was genuinely enjoying a fun moment. The camera cuts out, but he gets at least 30 feet down the line still skipping backwards. It was bottom 6 (3 - 1 Cubs) when he hit it, and the crowd was probably still hyped after Fontenot's 2 run jack broke the tie. I think Young's beaning was absolutely deliberate. That is just me and I do not have a statistic to qualify my statement - my apologies. Good for Young. Young definitely enabled the fight by walking towards D Lee. I'd be chilling out behind the mound if I just threw at somebody's face. Zambrano running at me with his belt off is a haunting thought.
  15. Anybody have a video link of Soriano doing this "moonwalk"?
  16. http://u3aepsom.nescot.ac.uk/images/photography/tiger_eye%5B300%5D.jpg do they have it? are they truly winners this year? here's to Jeff getting staked to a handful of early runs, going 7 today and letting Yo be Yo in prep for tomorrow.
  17. Total destruction, is the only solution - Robert Nesta Marley
  18. and I still haven't seen an answer to my question: "is there something fundamentally incorrect about batting your DH 9th? tonite's action: DH, and line-up spot Gross, 9 Sheffield, 3 D. Young, 4 A. Huff, 5 Ortiz, 3 Spilborghs, 6 C. Tracy, 5 J. Damon, 1 G. Blum, 8 G. Norton, 4 Spiezio, 2 Sweeney, 4 Saltalamacchia, 6 M. Redmond, 6 Sure there is an anomaly or two, but 9th? !!
  19. tomorrow is the end of Rickie's 15 day stint, correct? no apologies for posting this here despite the ad nauseum commentary that probably exists, I want to know... Gwynn down, under the guise of "everyday playing time"?
  20. So... um, like... Verlander is pitching like... um, REALLLLLY well.... um, right? wink wink!
  21. Is there something fundamentally incorrect about batting your DH 9th? I also very much like the idea of giving Ned a day off to watch the game (or a series) from a luxury box.
  22. this was my only post of the night: hmmmm... 6 LOB through 3 innings. We should definitely keep waiting for that 3 run homer. thank god i did not watch any more of this game than 3 innings. and thank god for jenkins. wow, i really just said that.
  23. hmmmm... 6 LOB through 3 innings. We should definitely keep waiting for that 3 run homer.
  24. Braunaffaninsell is the best third baseman EVER!
  25. Of those, 5 were on 0 days rest. Damn. Thanks Brian. That is truly awesome and actually deserving of its own thread.
