  1. redbirds @ fish is delayed... any meteorologists on board or local floridians? that would be awesome if it was postponed until tomorrow... holding SL in Florida, disrupting all travel and burning up their half of our mutual off day.
  2. in 2006, how the helicopter did El Caballo go from getting a 4 / $48M offer from us to 6 / $100M from the 'Stros? boy that would have been a bummer if A) Melvin went bigger or B) Carlos accepted our mediocre offer. well played Doug, well played.
  3. I didn't see Carpenter sweating buckets at Miller... but I can't imagine the dew point in Miami is going to be agreeable with his perspiration ducts. Hopefully he lasts 4 innings and Nolasco shines.
  4. bust into the tender underbelly of this bullpen until El Caballo is on the mound! and eye of the tiger, and other such stuff.
  5. ...so I am getting ahead of myself, but I have Brewers fever in a bad way. And on this off-day I was just contemplating being tied with the NL West division champ. ((sure sure, and all that "if the season ended today" type stuff.)) a simple google search produced: Scenario #7: There is a two-way tie for highest winning percentage among Division winners and a tiebreaker is required to determine home field advantage in the Division Series. If one of the Division winners tied for the highest winning percentage is from the same Division as the Wild Card: The Division winner from the same Division as the Wild Card cannot play the Wild Card in the Division Series. The other Division winner tied for the highest winning percentage plays the Wild Card. If neither Division winner tied for the highest winning percentage is from the same Division as the Wild Card: A tiebreaker system will be used to determine which Division winner with the best record plays the Wild Card. The first tiebreaker will be head-to-head competition between the two Clubs during the championship season. If the Clubs remain tied, then the tied Clubs with the higher winning percentage in intradivision games during the championship season. If the Clubs remain tied, then the tied Club with the higher winning percentage in intraleague games during the championship season. If the Clubs remain tied, then the tied Club with the higher winning percentage in the last half of intraleague games during the championship season. If the Clubs remain tied, then the tied Club with the higher winning percentage in the last half plus one of intraleague games during the championship season. This process will be followed game-by-game until the tie is broken. Tiebreaker 1: head to head... is a wash with, fine let's just call it, the Giants. [we went 3 - 4 against the D-Backs, so if you want a reason to follow the NL West, there you go] Tiebreaker 2: intradivision... wouldn't you know the Crew is 28-18 against the Central and SF is 28-17 against the West... let's just say that ends up as a wash. BUT MORE REASON to value these Central battles! Tiebreaker 3: intraleague... because the Brewers got hosed with the AL East and went 6-9 while SF went 10-5 against the AL Central... Brewers have a better NL record and get the extra game at Miller for the NLDS (no need to insert H/A splits to illustrate how valuable that is!) and given Prince's HR in the All-Star game, that is an extra 46,000 Milwaukee fans that get to attend a World Series game too.
  6. Brewers top OPS since the All-Star Break .651 - big slick-fieldin' Casey .667 - ye olde Wolf mound visitin Luuuucroy .706 - "I gotta go..." TP .721 - my ankle is feeling better every Weeks .832 - how will you jam 56K into Miller Park when I come back interleaguin' with the Angels to get my World Series championship ring? Crown Prince .855 - I still don't like your swing or trust you with breaking balls and would like to trade you while your value is high Hart (maybe it's just me) .922 - YunieSKY-is-the-limit-I'm-having-fun-now B 1.068 (woof) - Mr. 2020 It's nice to see Yuni's success at the dish, and praise is due where praise it due. If you haven't seen it yet, this is well hella-worth the read... almost makes it seem like Melvin knows what he's doing.
  7. this is really going to help out our run differential
  8. right. if only to throw out that "longest consecutive hitless at-bats streak by a non-pitcher" thing. "well you see one at-bat did come when he was a pitcher..."
  9. Last I checked, the Phillies were in the NL East. There's no guarantee that the Brewers see the Phillies in the playoffs, if that's what you are referring to. I do not see ANY other scenario than the Brewers travelling to Philly for games 1 & 2. well OK let me hedge... perhaps a 1.2462% chance of hosting the Braves if we can someone get 16 games above .500 (89 wins) to trump the Giants.
  10. i mean, can we talk about Marcum for a minute? if we had actually drafted him, how stoaked would this board be about him following him through whatever A-levels before getting to MKE? first round of the 2008 draft netted (first, albeit drunken, filter) Hosmer, Matusz, Posey, gBeckham, Crow, Smoak, jWeeks, Wallace above LAWRIE. if we had drafted Marcum and got him to the Majors by now this board would be absolutely nuts about Melvin / Jack Z. I love Marcum. [regardless of outcome] I love the trade. what a maneuver.
  11. on another topic... does anyone know why / how we got so jobbed coming out of the all-star break? seems like we were one of a handful of teams playing on day 1 post break, and again, one of a handful of teams playing today (the only one at night; can't getaway). just seems like either of the days could have been an off day. we will have played 4 more times than the Pirates... which I guess will come in handy AUG / SEPT, but sure woulda been nice to give Braun a full day off.
  12. I too am seeking a virtuoso, Slam-The-Door-Shut, break their will, Sabathian, stringofzeroes performance by Zack.
  13. that was nice. we really need to finish with a better record than the Giants / NL West Rep to avoid Philly in the first round... better things to contemplate than the alternative tonight... Saito, tip o the cap to you sir.
  14. I'm not sayin... I'm just sayin... ...that K-Rod (which is a stupid name) ((along with the creativity devoid, substance-less A-Rods and D-Wades out there)) should be the second person on the mound, after Lucroy, to get the ball from Axford to hand deliver it to Narvy.
  15. I live on the West Coast and these games are too late for me...
  16. I will be pleasantly surprised if this game is not a capital L deflating Loss... after prematurely counting an unhatched chicken and wistfully thinking about the possibility of a 6 - 5 roadie.
  17. 3 - 3 road trip at this point is OK by me. .500 ball on the road and taking care of business at home = pennant baby.
  18. my first thought - in the context of this ball - was 2 first row season tickets for life. and my children's lives... and their children's children's lives... in perpetuity for the history of the Yankees existence. first #3000 for a unanimous (?)-first ballot HOFer-will have a statue-to be mentioned as one of the "ghosts" roaming the field in 50 years-Yankee is a priceless object. wow did the Yankees get off light and boy is this guy a chump.
  19. anyone got a clip of this? the video i found on espn just had the highlights and some jabber. would braun have gotten the signal from Sedar or all the way across from 1B coach? getting on the same page from the dugout to sedar to lucroy to ? braun is really impressive having in mind that you want to do itsending the signal correctly.receiving the signal accurately.relaying the signalunderstanding & confirming the signalwhile on a parallel path braun sees the play THEN executing really good baseball
  20. Greinke would make a great old school closer... going 2+ or 3 innings 3 times a week. 7 innings every 5th day as a starter = between 8 and 9 innings per week when normalized on a weekly cadence versus 9 innings a week in shutdown relief
  21. man it's nice getting a win from Narvy's spot in the rotation... it's almost like the #8 hitter getting on to turn over the line-up. it would have been nice to use this 12 - 3 run to get to, like, 10 games over .500... but I'll take it all the same. severe case of Crew Fever in May?
  22. 4 LAD balls were called strikes2 MIL balls were called strikes (-2 on that exchange) 3 MIL strikes were called balls "-5" totalI interpret that right?
