  1. Mitch Haniger continues to impress in his fourth game now in the big leagues. I'm not sure it's a fluke (well, he's not gonna hit .438...), but he looked really good in AAA this year with a .351/.437/.697 line and with 19 HRs and 49 RBIs in 64 games. Good for him. Segura went 5/6 with 3 SB. I admit, I was very much expecting him to slow down after the all-star break and lower is BA to the .270-.280 range, but I guess that new stance may really be working out for him.
  2. I have to admit, even though the Brewers could very well break the strikeouts record, I've been quite pleased overall with the team's plate discipline. I have no idea if the stats bear it out, but it feels to me like the team in general has done a much better job in being more patient and taking more walks versus prior years.
  3. Yeah, I don't really feel any need to bring Carlos back right now. I want to see what Broxton can do the rest of the way. Speaking of, what are his numbers since being called up the last time? I feel like they're more in line (actually, probably better) with what I expected out of him. Also, a question on Brinson. Might be an easy silly answer I'm missing, but -- how does he have an average higher than his on base percentage? He's drawn no walks, but his average is .417 while his OBP is .405. I thought they would be the same. What am I missing?
  4. Is there a time limit on how long Luc has to decide whether or not to waive his NTC.
  5. Have we confirmed there is a 4th player, or is that just a rumor right now?
  6. I know the Crew don't have the talent to compete, but I am loving their approach this year. Taking pitches; taking walks. It's fun to watch patience sometimes.
  7. Can someone help me out with a(nother) random question? Not sure why this popped up in my head, but I was wondering if the following scenario would be a no-hitter or a perfect game: Let's say we're in the bottom of the 7th inning with a perfect game intact. The hitter skies a pop-up into foul territory, but the first baseman drops it. It is ruled an error, but the pitcher ends up getting him out anyway, and everyone else out to finish up his... perfect game? No-hitter? I don't think this scenario would ever happen, but who knows. Does an error like this -- where it doesn't put a runner on -- mean that it can still be a perfect game? Or because there is a '1' in the error column, regardless of whether he reached based, it is ruled a no-hitter?
  8. Gomez seems to really be struggling with the bat. Only hitting .188 since going to Houston (16 games), and saw a highlight of him breaking a bat over his thigh recently (after a couple tries.) This makes it sound like he's at least had trouble in the Tampa Bay series in CF, though not sure with what exactly. I was going to say the Astros announcers sounded really frustrated with him, but I think this is the Rays' crew? Could be wrong. http://m.mlb.com/video/v383431783/tbhou-casali-bloops-a-double-into-center-in-the-7th/?game_pk=415435 Has anyone been watching any Astros games to see how he's been doing in the field? Either way, I'm rooting for both Parra and Carlos. They're easy guys to root for, and it's good to see Parra coming back around. Hopefully Gomez isn't far behind.
  9. Fun fact: LaTroy Hawkins became just the 13th player in MLB history to record a save against all 30 teams. I'm actually a bit surprised that it's been done that many times, but congrats to LaTroy! Always been a fan, and he's still rollin' at 42 with a 3.08 ERA. He'll be retiring after this season. The others to achieve the feat are: Rick Aguilera, Armando Benitez, Brian Fuentes, Kevin Gregg, Jason Isringhausen, Jose Mesa, Jonathan Papelbon, Rafael Soriano, Huston Street, Ugueth Urbina, Jose Valverde, and Bob Wickman.
  10. Ya, the last three games he's had 11 plate appearances, and he's gotten on base 8 times. 6 hits (4 of them doubles) and 2 walks. He's not quitting. I'd still love to see him pull with more power, but I think I'm just being a little too greedy there. He's taking some walks and really hitting the ball hard. I'll take that any day of the week.
  11. Anyone know if the Brewers plan to keep him in the OF, or put him back at 2B? I think he was a second baseman till around 2014 when he was moved to LF. I would love to see him back at second, especially since I feel like the Crew have more OF prospects. Anyone know how his defense was at either position?
  12. Man, it is strange seeing Gomez is orange! Hoping for all our recently traded players to do well. I liked them all, except Broxton, but that was more performance based than anything else. Unfortunately, Carlos had a bit of a rough go of it in his debut with Houston. He was 0-5, and misplayed a ball in the 6th that lead to two runs. It was called a double, but Carlos flat overran it, then couldn't reach back far enough and keep it in the glove. Houston lost in extras to Arizona, 6-4. First AB: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/33965510/v316326083/arihou-gomez-pops-out-to-center-in-first-astros-ab Here's the 'double': http://m.mlb.com/video/v317199583/arihou-gomez-misplays-fly-ball-into-double And here's a video of Gerardo Parra introducing himself to his new teammates.: http://m.mlb.com/video/v316143483/detbal-parra-introduces-himself-to-new-teammates
  13. I like this quite a bit more than the Mets deal, to be honest. Really excited for Brett Phillips.
  14. I feel like, from what I'm reading (if anyone of it's true), Alderson got cold feet at the last minute and scuttled the trade under the pretense that Gomez had some scary hip injury. This feels like a pretty lame excuse as the only issue with Gomez this season seems to have been his hamstring, and there's been no talk about the hip thing being a major concern (I know he mentioned it a few weeks back, but it didn't sound like anything serious, and from what has come out, it also does not sound like it should have ruined the trade -- especially since the Crew were taking on a guy coming off TJ). Then someone in the Brewers(?) organization leaks the trade, since it's pretty much going down. Alderson blasts the trade as not happening, and has someone (or himself) leak that the not at all proven theory that Carlos Gomez has a hip injury that is of some concern. Obviously, the Mets are out of the picture now. So my question is: Does this hurt his trade value right now? Obviously, doctors from other teams will be able to look at the hip in question and see if it really is a concern, but does this effectively kill the trade for the time being? Does this lessen his value at all? Should the Crew wait until winter meetings to unload him, and hope he performs really well for the rest of the year, and is healthy? I know the rumors say Cleveland is interested, but now I'm a little concerned at his value since they pretty much know what kind of players can get him. I hope that made sense. I haven't slept and have to work in a couple hours. Weee!
  15. Wheeler underwent Tommy John surgery in March. Threw for the first time since the surgery a couple days ago.
  16. He's had a nice game, up until this inning with the walk and double to Pence. I thought he looked really strong tonight. Great job, Wily. Good to have you back.
  17. Thanks again for the answers! Speaking of the Diamondbacks... This one happened last week, but I thought it was ridiculous. Jose Fernandez clearly accidentally hit David Peralta in the head. His reaction says it all, and there's no prior history there as far as I know. Anyway, as their guy lays on the ground injured, and Fernandez looks on concerned, the D-Backs dugout (I guess, especially the manager) start barking at the home plate umpire to toss Fernandez. The umpire pretty much tells them to shut up ("If I want to eject him, I will. Don't tell me what to do.") and ejected the D-backs manager. Next half inning and Dominic Leone throws a pretty obvious retaliation pitch and is thrown out as well. Retaliating for what, I'm not sure. I know you have to protect your guys, but do they honestly think Fernandez would intentionally try and hit someone in the head? The whole thing is ridiculous, compounded by the completely awful announcing by the D-backs guys, while the Marlins announcers seem completely perplexed at what has occurred. http://m.mlb.com/video/v284165483/miaari-peralta-gets-hbp-retaliation-spurs-ejection/?game_pk=415064
  18. Beat me to it. You're down two. No reason to steal besides stat-padding. Just mind-boggling. Edit: And gets himself and CC ejected. Not that it likely matters now, but ugh. I hate everything about that steal.
  19. Yeah, he needs to be off the team. If he even had a great game today, would it have made a difference to any team? They've seen him this season. He's bad. He has been all year. Just release him. Why in the world is Gomez running there?
  20. Whoa. Did not see that coming. Really interested to see the kind of haul the Rockies will get for him.
