  1. And I know it wasn't a MP game, but I will forever remember Richie Sexson hitting and permanently denting that (stupid) flagpole on Tal's Hill in Houston. That was a monstrous shot, and surely the longest (and unluckiest) double ever hit. I really wonder what the distance would have been on that, 'cause it was well up the pole, and it's already 435 to center. I remember the Brewers losing that game, and I think it may have been by just the one run that Sexson should have had. Edit: If anyone has video of that, I'd love to see it! I've been searching on-and-off for what seems like forever, but I could never find anything.
  2. Just realized it was the same series as the 9-0 comeback I posted above. Would have been a treat to experience that. Strange cycle history for the Brewers - Moeller's is still the only one out of seven to be at home. And the last three: Moeller, a backup catcher who normally couldn't record one hit, backup outfielder Jody Gerut, and George Kottaras, another backup catcher who couldn't hit and is still serving as a backup catcher for AAA Charlotte. Those games were back-to-back, if I'm not mistaken? I remember them really well, especially the Chad Moeller cycle game. He came up to the plate in the bottom of the 9th, already 4-4 with the cycle in hand. The Crew were down two runs with two outs and Helms on third. Chad had a chance to add to his already ridiculous game and tie it up homer. However, he hit pretty much the most routine grounder to third as possible. Somehow, and fortuitously, the third-baseman managed to short-hop the throw, and Moeller reached on an error, bringing them within a run. Bill Hall pinch-hit next, and hit one of the hardest balls I've seen for a walk-off homerun just over the Brewers' bullpen. Then, the next day, they have the monster comeback, and he has the walk-off suicide squeeze. That was a helluva two-game stretch... Edit: And another interesting(?) note: Those two games were a couple of the least attended in Miller Park history, if I'm remembering that correctly as well. I know the Chad Moeller game had under 9,000, and the Bill Hall suicide squeeze game wasn't much better.
  3. Bring back Raul Casanova! But seriously, it just seems like Luc is lost at the plate. Hope he gets it back soon, 'cause it's rough to watch. Speaking of rough to watch, Lohse is awful. I hate watching him pitch.
  4. Thanks to both of you! I appreciate the quick answers. Do either of you (or anyone) have an approximation on how many baseballs are actually used during the game. I thought I had found my answer before asking my original question, but then I saw several different answers. For instance, 20-30 (which seems way too low); 50-70 (which still seems low to me); and about 120 (which feels about right, but maybe a bit high...?) I guess I'll have to try and pay attention to that sometime.
  5. I was curious on something - how many baseballs are brought to the ballpark for each game? I haven't been able to find out any info regarding this. There's stuff about approximately how many baseballs are USED, but I've never read anything about how many baseballs are there are the start of the game. Anyone know? I'm assuming it would be the same for each team and each game (except perhaps the playoffs), but I'm guessing the amount is considerable factoring in batting practice and a nine-inning game. I have no clue why this popped into my head, but if anyone knows, that'd be great!
  6. Thanks for the info! So I assume that would mean the umpires in New York communicate that to the press box, and not the umpires on the field? I'm guessing that would be the case because, as I said earlier, I can't recall any umpires making any type of motion that would indicate the call stood vs. being confirmed.
  7. Didn't know where to put this, but I had a question about replay. How do the umpires relay the call is confirmed versus stands (not having enough evidence to overturn.) I've never seen the umpires make a secondary motion that would indicate one or the other. Or does the replay booth in NY tell the broadcasters which it is? That's confused me for a while since I've never seen any indication from umpires that would say either way.
  8. I could believe that, especially if he never actually used it during the game (which I can't tell from the broadcast since they don't keep the camera on Will at all times). The fact that it was so obviously there makes me think that he really may have just forgotten about it. I'm curious, though - if he wasn't using it during the game, what would he have it for? Would he just be something he does during his warmups? Or is this a case of being sloppy and not hiding it well? I feel like these are kind of stupid questions, but I guess I've never really paid too much attention to how many pitchers do similar things.
  9. I guess I didn't really know it was still that prevalent in the game, but thanks for the posters who corrected me. Here's what Smith had to say about it: "It was chilly and kind of windy. I had sunscreen rosin on my arm. Just forgot to wipe it off before I went out and pitched."
  10. Haha. Seriously? That was legitimately one of the easiest throws you can make. What an embarrassing inning.
  11. Agreed. What I don't understand is why Smith was cussing out the Braves' dugout. He cheated. He should be mad at himself. They saw something and it was confirmed to be illegal by the umpires. What were the Braves supposed to do? Let him use pine tar or whatever it was to gain an advantage on their hitters?
  12. So... Smith was swearing and livid at the Braves dugout because he was cheating? It didn't look like pine tar to me(?), but something was definitely there.
  13. That's probably one where if he was called out on the field, it would stand as out. Luckily he was called safe.
  14. http://m.mlb.com/video/v86661883/kccws-tempers-flare-in-chicago-as-benches-clear Indeed they did. Too bad you have to hear it from the White Sox feed with Hawk, but there's the video. Ventura definitely said, ""Fudge" you" to Adam Eaton. I've been reading Eaton may have called him a sucker of roosters first, but who knows.
  15. 3.44 ERA with only 2 HR given up in 34 IP, not counting tonight. Thanks. I actually thought his ERA would be a bit lower, but regardless, I think he's done a nice job after how poorly he performed as a starter.
  16. What is Marco's ERA since they put him in the bullpen? It's seems like he's been really good since they took him out of the rotation (usually in the long relief appearances), and he appears to have dropped the amount of homers he was giving up by quite a bit (though it'd be almost impossible not to.) Edit: I'm just gonna go ahead and knock on wood in case he pitches another inning or two.
  17. I know sometimes RRR gets unnecessary heat, but absolutely no one would complain about him putting Duke in (or Gorzelanny, that guy exists, right?) against Adams, especially with his splits versus lefties and righties. I have no clue how that call was not made. Broxton looked bad in that inning, and 9.99/10 times, you make that call. I was upset they even pulled Lohse, but that's a different story.
  18. Looked like he swung and got hit on the hand, therefore the third strike. I guess Stanton went too when he got hit? Yikes. I expect retaliation, even though I know Fiers had no intention on either of those pitches.
  19. Thought I'd pop in to at least congratulate Jason Rogers on his first hit in his first ML AB. As for the rest of the game, I think everyone else has my feelings covered.
  20. I've had my fair share of balls hit my... well, balls, but I can't imagine getting hit with something that fast and hard. Michael Scott should be popping in about now.
  21. Ugh. One of those times that the shift didn't work, and of course it's Rene Rivera of all people. Honestly, both teams deserved to lose this one.
  22. I'm lucky I don't have a cap - yet. Can't imagine that'll work out too well for me with MLB.tv and all the internet TV (HBO Go, Netflix, Hulu, Youtube) and music (Spotify and Pandora) I stream. I imagine I'll go over in a week.
