  1. Not a significant trade for either side. Looks like the Brewers will try their bullpenning strategy down the stretch. Dubon is just a guy and it appears they sold high, such as that is for him.
  2. I agree. Sounds like a good strategy.
  3. Then I suggest going for one of the bigger banks like JPMorgan Chase. They just increased their dividend share to .80 cents per share for the 3rd quarter of this year. Another large bank that pays a nice dividend is Wells Fargo beyond that the only other safe bet would be Apple. You might be late on the wave but the ETF AMLP has some nice dividend stocks which pays about .20 cents a share. These are all energy companies in this ETF. I have JPM, that’s the type of stock I like. I’ll look into AMLP seems up my alley too You guys know your stuff!
  4. I’m a buy and hold guy. The first stock I bought was DE to give you an idea. OK if you're going to hold then I'm curious why you are worried about the safety of the stock? If you would like dividend income that's another story. Obviously everyone's risk tolerance is different. My risk tolerance is low. Anyone who has been in the market has done well. I can't imagine this will continue so I'd like to go for high dividend low risk going forward.

  6. That looks good too. I really want to rotate into stable dividend paying instruments. The market can't possibly keep going up and the climate feels shaky??
  7. This is obviously a loaded question, but I’ll bite and say check out PFF - the iShares US Preferred Stock ETF. Minimal upside, but low volatility and a 5% dividend yield. That’s perfect for what I have been looking for. My bond funds have been a joke so it feels like dead money. Your idea is better. I’m very overweight in BP and need to diversify.
  8. What’s the safest stock (oxymoron I know) you can buy? I’m thinking dividend aristocrat stuff like JNJ, XOM, BP type stocks. Any ideas for what will surely be a correction at some point.
  9. Agreed. The lineup needed to be fixed and Stearns fixed it. At the cost of 5 prospects and $80 Million. Can't have it both ways. By definition, either they paid market or they overpaid. By definition Stearns paid more than 28 other teams were willing to pay so technically he didn't pay market. By definition. If the reports are accurate Cain was receiving 4 year deals. Stearns gave him a 5 year plus a Bobby Bonilla adder to pay him until 2027. I absolutely agree the lineup needed fixing for the Brewers to get to the next level and these two players will be a big help in that regard in 2018.

  11. Well, you're nothing if not predictable. I'm not laughing at your opinion, just that I would've bet my life you were going to say it. To make any grand proclamations about getting taken to the cleaners is really, really silly. We'll see. I don't know how many posts I've made defending the very same prospects that were traded while Boomer told me how disappointing and horrible they were. Now all of a sudden they were overpays. Some folks just gotta......... You might be more of a Stearns fan than a Brewers fan. He definitely over paid. Look at the proposals made by this board just a day before the actual trade. No one had anything like that deal. There were even some who stomped their feet at mere thought that the great Diaz would be an add on piece. Ditto Cain. 5 years and pick. Good God what a stupid contract. That said, the lineup badly needed to bring in players who are professional hitters and these two are definitely that. As I stated in the Cain thread, the Brewers of 2017 only scored when they hit HRs and they stopped doing that when they were badly needed and guys like Thames and Shaw remembered they were Thames and Shaw and wilted down the stretch. Cain and Yelich are much better players for a team that wants to play October baseball. So yes this was a big overpay for both, but the Brewers MLB club is also very much improved for 2018.
  12. Two very good players in Cain (at least in the near terms) and Yelich but my goodness did Stearns get taken to the cleaners on both deals. He must have really wanted both players because he badly overpaid for both which is interesting since OF was hardly an area where we had few options.
