  1. I don't know if that is the case. These players want what they want. Either Crowl and Co. are happy with what they are personally getting or they aren't. Is Hepburn getting $750k going to make Crowl demand the same or he is leaving? I doubt that...if that was the case he would already have one foot out the door as is. If Crowl doesn't want to leave to get $750k that is his own problem then. It is a free market now with free agency. If you don't want to move schools, have fun with a team friendly NIL figure then.
  2. I get that it is 5-1 and all....but yikes.
  3. What does past supposed cheating have to do with anything? You just sound bitter the Badgers keep crying poor and looking for the next 'poor me' excuse. Badgers like to hype up their NIL money and how it has tripled year over year, yet here we are....Chucky Hepburn of all people is leaving and found it to be a waste of time to even ask the Badgers if they want to match an offer.
  4. Yah, I thought the intentional ‘extreme’ to that was obvious. It doesn’t change the fact there are plenty of ways to go to a Brewers game dirt cheap…just as cheap as it really ever has been. Weekdays, weekends, holidays…there are 81 games. There are probably 5x as many games that work with your schedule and budget than you would go to anyway. It’s a different way to sell tickets, sure, but is what it is. People will adjust and a few will throw up their hands and refuse to go. Just like when paper tickets went away etc.
  5. The reaction to the $5 deal was exactly as you’d expect, just a big complaint fest. They also whined about the free Kwik Trip ticket dates. People just ain’t happy no matter what they do. Pretty much have to run a $5 ticket deal for diamond platinum seats on a weekend game. Might have to throw in free parking or they will say the ticket price doesn’t matter if parking it $30+.
  6. He is producing like rookie Trout (or pre-rookie year Trout) if you really want to look at it optimistically. Haha Though his K% over 30% is a bit concerning. I’d like to see that get much closer to 25%. Using that pacing logic he is then in store for nearly 200 Ks and 8 doubles, not great attributes. That wasn’t really to insult Chourio, he simply isn’t lighting the world on fire.
  7. Jackson Chourio isn’t lighting the world on fire by any means, but Jackson Holliday….YIKES.
  8. Those teams are also incredibly older. The Brewers aren’t that old of a franchise in the grand scheme. At some point it is a 55 year old MLB franchise. It didn’t exist when Babe Ruth and Co were playing. Heck, it barely existed for Hank Aaron’s playing days. Those iconic uniforms are partially because they have never changed, but also the fact the franchises date back to the dawn of the dinosaurs. The 90s uniforms were a mistake, whether they looked good or not. Either way they almost surely change them anyway in 2000 when they moved stadiums. Major refreshes that close together left a lot to be desired. On the bright side the logo is probably here to stay until the franchise moves or MLB baseball ends in a zombie apocalypse.
  9. There have been a very select few over the years that have mentioned liking them and wishing for an alt. I’m sure they live off of BrewerFanatic too. You pretty much gotta have that be your childhood to like I would imagine. In my full hearted opinion the Brewers returned the absolute only thing in their history worth bringing back (ball glove logo). The rest can just kindly stay in the history book minus a one-off appearance here and there. Maybe this uniform can return for senior citizen day. I’m a little sad the retro Friday jerseys are gone though. Those felt a little more timeless.
  10. The only thing worse than clinging to these old powder blues is people who were a teens in the 90s and think the uniforms in the 90s were cool (arguably one of the worst baseball logos/uniforms in history).
  11. #1 They did bring back powder blues, just because it is modern versus 50 years old is a different story. #2 Updating a classic design is a lot different than bringing back the hideous sleeves and V neck. Im not exactly a huge fan of the city connect jerseys, but they have a purpose selling to younger generations.
  12. The only person that could say these are nice jerseys is someone that has fond memories of the 70/80s. In actuality they are hideous by today’s standards and even in retrospect they aren’t that nice. You may not like the city connect jerseys, but they are to attract the future of MLB viewership.
  13. I mean…I didn’t say a .750 OPS would be bad. His speed can make up for a lack of power. .280/.350 would be great…but he has a mighty long way to prove he can do that. First we were excited Wiemer changed his swing, now we think Turang looks bigger. Pre and early season optimism is always fun. What will stick, what was wishful thinking. Time will tell.
  14. Well considering he came out of the gates last year hot and then quickly nosedived into hot garbage...yah, incredibly early. I will be interested if his OPS is still over .750 in mid-May.
  15. Do they look at your bank account when doing your taxes? I mean, I don't think they do for us normal people (TurboTax surely doesn't)...but maybe it is different for people with insane assets and foreign citizen. Even if he has someone else who looked at his account or saw it for whatever financial reason, there is one very important quality the person must have to see something like this: They actually have to care. As someone with a job that can occasionally come across and deal with levels of fraud, if the person looking doesn't care, nothing will be found. There was one case where a business owner owed money to 'employees'. In simplistic terms the business owner wrote the checks and then proceeded to sign them right back over to himself forging the signatures. Then the entire stack of checks went to bank together to get cashed into his account. Any bank employee with a sliver of care would have saw not only a bunch of checks with the same handwriting/ink, but also the fact it made no sense for two dozen people to all sign over checks to him over and over again.
  16. AJ Storr isn’t really a great example to point and say ‘that’s wrong’. Both times he transferred he went to a school exponentially better for him. It isn’t even a NIL problem. Take that away and he still probably transfers and both places he went to would have made sense. Wisconsin to be in P5 after proving he had way more skill than one typically has at St. John’s and then Kansas to be at an elite school that has a way better play style to showcase his talents for the NBA. It isn’t like he is flailing around jumping from school to school If you want an example of a transfer issue guy it is Charlie Moore. I kind of miss the days where they had to sit out a year, it certainly makes guys less likely to jump ship. At the same time I never liked basically forcing a guy to stay either. A whole year felt really extreme too. You could give everyone a single free transfer before say a half-year sit requirement…but it feels guys trying to transfer for their second (or more) time is honestly a big minority. Though we shall see how that shakes out as NIL is around longer.
  17. They already do, but they can easily just leave after the first year. The only way it would force a player back is if you backloaded it and also massively outbid other teams. But good luck...too much competition for these players. It just doesn't make a ton of sense for the player. The Badgers just have to hope they can reload the talent. If not, they will quickly flop in the NIL era. Losing Storr and Hepburn aren't bad if you can replace them. I am sure it sucks to see Hepburn leave, but he is hardly something difficult to replace. Storr is a bit tougher, but they acquired him once...just got to use that same logic/strategy to find the next guy. Unless this is true, which would be bonkers. I wouldn't pay to keep him around at that price either.
  18. No need to act like we stole this. This is exactly what our team was built on....defense and bullpen. Our speed set up a game winning opportunity.
  19. Sure, there has been plenty of Latin talent for decades, but that has certainly increased greatly in the last 10-15 years as teams really ramped up investment there. SS has certainly seen a huge increase, though some of that is hard to quantify because there is so much depth in the minors many guys get moved off of the position before ever reaching the majors. It is just about impossible in the year 2024 to be anything outside of plus-defense at SS and stay there all the way to MLB.
  20. Yah, but look when they debuted. A lot of those guys were in their first year or two. That is about right when the explosion of Latin players started. A lot more investment by teams and probably partially them learning how to scout them. I also wouldn't really consider Cuba the Latin America that I am referring to and where most of them come from (DR and Ven). Back then Alcides Escobar was a Top 25 prospect in MLB (I think)...he probably wouldn't crack the Top 50 at his position in 2024. Just a very different position...used to be the worst, now arguably the most talented position in baseball. You basically have to be a defensive wiz and mash to stay at SS.
  21. No, that title definitely goes to cream and lozenges boy. He had an OPS well over 1.000 that year in the postseason if I recall right. It was part of the reason he didn't look too great in retrospect because he had the bonkers performance to go with the positive PED test.
  22. There are certain players that are lucky they existed before teams figured out how much SS talent there was in Latin America. A meer decade was the difference between making $16mil and $0 playing baseball for him.
  23. -0.1 WAR is what we needed? .650 OPS is what we needed? He was rated 37/45 by FanGraphs for SS with 250 PAs. The fact he got nearly 600 PAs and wasn't replaced during the season is one of the bigger blunders since 2007. We chased HRs from the SS position, a stat we surely didn't need to chase on the 2011 team. I don't dislike Doug Melvin like many do....but Yuni B playing that much all year and never getting replaced was downright insanity. The only other guy getting 550+ PAs that was worse was Alex Gonzalez....A GUY DOUG MELVIN GOT THE NEXT TWO OFFSEASONS!!!.
  24. Maybe he should take an extension. Will be retired by 30 if he destroys his body.
  25. Dude robbed 3 different teams for almost $16mil over nearly a decade. Was only a matter of time before he stole illegally.
