  1. This is what I keep thinking as I read this thread. As someone pointed out earlier, I hope our fan base doesn't become like the SF fanbase that first looked the other way, then refused to believe and then began hanging their hats on "but steroids don't help you bat .370" type arguments. I'm trying to be as objective as I can about this and to be honest, it's not looking good. He tested positive for a PED and further testing showed that the testosterone came from outside his body. If you are going to use the "It wasn't supposed to be in the supplement" argument, there is a lot to prove: 1. That the supplement was somehow contaminated or tampered with (simple ignorance is not good enough) 2. That you were actually taking this supplement at the time of the positive test and not during any previous tests that could have turned up negative (MLB just can't be taking peoples words for it) 3. That the supplement was actually capable of and responsible for generating the positive test Also, as I mentioned earlier, we need to remember that the forceful denial means absolutely nothing. I don't recall anyone denying their allegations more forcefully than Roger Clemens.
  2. I was kind of wondering the same thing. Also, we need to remember that just because we found out about the failed drug test before we were supposed to, it doesn't change the facts or the process. Yes, there is hope that Braun will still be able to overcome this but we don't know if it is any more hope than any other player had at this stage of the game. This has to put MLB in a very awkward spot. If Braun doesn't get a 50 game suspsension after a failing a drug test, many will think MLB's PED policy is a joke. They have worked very hard to clean the sport up and now they have an MVP fail a drug test in his MVP year.
  3. This is what I am asking about. Where is the "caught" coming from? Everything I have read says that he tested positive in MLB's drug test for PED's. Since Braun's camp is not even denying this, I think it's safe to believe he did test positive. Unless I am missing something, and I every well may be, I don't see why someone would be upset with ESPN. Now the people who leaked the story to ESPN, that could be a different story.....
  4. Exactly. This is looking more and more like it is just horrible journalism by ESPN, out to sensationalize something that should have never come to light. There has been no suspension. The 2nd test was negative. Where did you guys see this? Everything I have read on ESPN says that he tested positive for a PED, which Braun's camp has also confirmed. I haven't seen anything in the articles to suggest that ESPN has been "reaching" on this story.
  5. Remember another person that forcefully denied PED allegations? Roger Clemens
  6. Nothing over the top and comical about a potential defamation suit. If Braun is vindicated, however remote the chances are, I can't think of anything more damaging to a players marketability than being wrongly linked to PED's by a report by ESPN. Defamation? For what? One of his spokesman confirmed the positive test. I'm not really sure how ESPN could be successfully sued in this.
  7. I can't help but think if this were Matt Holliday, people on this board would be responding much differently. Hopefully he will be cleared but I am not holding my breath.
  8. A career .735 OPS player, no thanks. I'd rather the Brewers bring in players that won't block prospects that are knocking at the door to the Majors (Taylor Green). Especially when they'd have to give up prospects of their own to do it. I think the Brewers should focus on 1B, SS and possibly RF (depending on what they do with Hart).
  9. I grew tired with "Beast Mode" a long time ago. I hope that next year, they just play baseball and let their accomplishments do the talking. This team needs to mature.
  10. Heaven forbid they enjoy themselves.Or win a pennant, I guess.
  11. I hope that next year, they drop the whole beast mode and shirt untucking kind of stuff. It's kind of embarrassing to see the Cardinals get the last laugh.
  12. I tried to prepare myself for this but it's still very sad. So close to the WS...
  13. So close ...at least they have a division title out of all this. The Brewers can rebuild and field a competitive team over the next few years as long as they don't try to replace Prince with one guy. Here's to hoping that Pujols leaves the division.
  14. Come on the series has gone 6 games. Losing in 6 games is like losing two 3-game series. I think that qualifies as getting your butt kicked.
  15. [quote name= razzzorsharp] This is the day that this series but turned around on. You can say that the Brewers pitchers don't have the velocity to come inside but they were prior to this day and they were doing well. LaRussa won, the Brewers for whatever reason decided to play into his headgames and not throw inside. I hope they can come back but I am not sure that the Brewers pitchers would do anything about it anyway. I agree.? RR and the Brewers played right into the games.? Maybe I'm crazy, but when Carpenter started in this series, not only would I have started Morgan, but I would have told him to try and get under Carpenter's skin.? Who knows, if they go at it, maybe they both get ejected and Carpenter only pitches one inning. Instead, it seems like RR benches Morgan to "avoid conflict".? To me, that was a joke.
  16. With last year's roster, RR would have won no more games than Macha did.
  17. Thank goodness! Lucroy just came through at a very timely moment.
  18. I know Hairston made a critical error in the last game but man, what a pickup this guy has been.
  19. Seriously, why are posters calling out other posters for their optimism on a certain, pitcher, game, hitter, etc. This happened the last game and is happening again. Do you feel better for calling someone out for being wrong about their prediction of a Brewer doing well? I just don't get it. Maybe because the optimists called out those that didn't want to pitch Marcum tonight.
  20. No....but Ennder didNo, I said I'd rather trust in Marcum pitching well than use a guy who hasn't started in weeks and doesn't have stuff as good as Marcum's. There is nothing wrong with starting Marcum tonight, the team just has to execute. The Cardinals have hammered every ball in the strike zone by all of our starters except Wolf all series, this isn't just a Marcum thing. So starting a pitcher who has given up about 30 runs in his last 30 IP in an elimination game didn't concern you? A pitcher who even the casual sports talk radio listener knows has abandoned his changeup and has been rocked for the past month? I understand statistics but sometimes you can't lose sight of the forest for the trees. Sorry, I just don't see how people can think starting Marcum was the right move. It just boggles my mind. They were fearful that Narveson wouldn't be able to go very long since he hadn't started a game in quite some time. Well, now he is on the mound in the 2nd inning and the Brewers are in a 3-run hole. It should have been anybody but Marcum. Anybody.
  21. Did RR seriously expect Marcum to suddenly turn things around? Now, we will go down without giving our best pitcher a chance to extend the series on 3-days rest. This is the playoffs, not the regular season. Someone should let RR know.
  22. This is exactly why I recommended moving both Gallardo and Wolf up. Looks like that wasn't a bad idea afterall. We ALL knew this was coming.
  23. I'm really wishing Atlanta would have made the postseason.
