  1. That's like saying SWAT could go up and succeed against our Delta Operators, there isn't a chance in hell To be fair, I don't think GSG-9 would hold water with Delta either. Plus, in the last SWAT challenge rankings I was able to find, GSG-9 was only ranked 5th. I know that doesn't really have anything to do with how a team would be able to handle an actual hostage situation, but I don't think GSG-9 is as far ahead of a good American SWAT team as you think. Like I said though, if it came down to me having to pick a team to save me in a hostage situation, I'd pick GSG-9. Also, they demonstrated the taser on a live guy but not the grenade thing. That seems to indicate that the grenade is nastier than the taser if they weren't willing to actually use it. (Not that they should have, I sure wouldn't want to get hit with a grenade even if it was supposedly non-lethal.) It's hard to compare the taser to that grenade thing because I think they serve different purposes. I assume the grenade is thrown into a room and after it goes off the team storms the room. The taser is more of a defensive weapon than an offensive weapon. One match-up I'd love to see would be Delta vs. the Navy SEALs.
  2. I see that there are new Presidential Dollar coins coming out, coins for every president. The first four (Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Madison) have been released and I guess they come out at a rate of about one every three months. Are these something we can just go to the bank and ask for? Or do we have to get them specially from a coin dealer? Does anyone know? I realize it may be a very dumb question, but I have started looking at coins a little bit and know nothing about them.
  3. To me, Weeks is really starting to turn the corner as a hitter, and as a fielder for the matter, and he is definitely capable of being an all-star second basemen. I think if the Brewers made him a very reasonable four year offer this season, he'd be willing to take it. If you let him play out his arby years as he's hitting .300 with 25 home runs, he's going to increase his value a ton. You've signed Braun. You've signed Gallardo. Now forget Prince because it's not going to happen and sign Rickie.
  4. I continually laugh at all these measures at "competitive balance" when the real problems continue to be ignored. There was a report I just read about how the Yankees brought in over $400 million in revenue last year, and the next closest team, the Mets, were something like $100 million less than that. They Yankees can outbid any team they want for any free agent, any international free agent, and can afford to sign any draft pick they want. Until they fix the draft by having some sort of rookie salary cap and making every amateur player in the world subject to the draft, I will not believe MLB is doing anything to fix the competitive balance problem.
  5. Well I don't want to argue about it. I'll just say I'd be perfectly fine with moving Lucroy to first base or outfield if it means being able to keep both him and Salome. I think both of them have very special bats and need to find their way into Milwaukee's lineup.
  6. I don't want to spoil this for anyone, so read no further if you haven't seen the episodes yet. I was a little disappointed in the first show that compared the five groups together right away because my favorite guy, the Shaolin Monk, was eliminated like....instantly I am not sure if I'd pick the Spartan as the best of all of them in a one on one fight, but I probably would in a group on group. I think I'd go with the Apache Warrior one on one. As far as the other part, the Spetsnaz vs IRA. Did you guys see how badly Spetsnaz won? Wasn't it something like 73% of the time? I'm not surprised at all. I would have actually liked to see a one on one between the IRA and the Mafia. I think Spetsnaz was far and away the best of the groups that were left and it was a given that they were going to win. The second episode SWAT vs GSG-9. I was a little surprised SWAT won, but I did think that the weapons they brought were better. That Taser thing they used was sick. Training and ability in real life would determine who is "better", and if I had to pick one group to save me in a hostage situation I'd still probably pick GSG-9, but you can never go wrong with LAPD SWAT.
  7. It is easier and cheaper to find a first baseman that hits 30 home runs than a second baseman that does so. Yeah so if you already have the second basemen, and you can more easily find the first basemen, wouldn't that favor the Brewers? If one of them walks, you let it be the first basemen and find his replacement. Again, it would hurt his trade value because his offensive numbers wouldn't be as comparable to other first basemen, But his value to the Brewers would be the same no matter what position he plays.
  8. No I see what you're saying. It would be more to compare groups with similar goals. That is a problem I had with the Ninja-Spartan matchup. Whereas Spartans were warriors and soldiers, the Ninja would never line up in groups and fight their enemies head on.
  9. I think Lucroy's value dips a fair amount if he moves to a different position. He is a plus hitter as a catcher but at a corner OF he would be average at best and he would be below average at 1B due to his lack of power. I remember saying something about this before, but I think his trade value would dip if he changed positions, but his value to the Brewers would not. What difference does it make if your first basemen hits 30 home runs or your second basemen hits 30 home runs? Let's say Brett Lawrie sticks at second base. You'd have an above average power hitting second basemen and a below average power hitting first basemen. Plus you'd have Salome at catcher, and he'd probably be above average power wise for a catcher. So even though Lucroy would be below average power-wise for a first basemen, you'd have other positions make up for it. I think you need to put your 8 best hitters out there, no matter where they play.
  10. To be fair, I don't think they take numbers into consideration when comparing the two. It's more like 5 Mongols against 5 Comanches.
  11. I don't think Salome has done anything to play himself out of a job. You can't blame the guy for going home for his child being born. It'll be interesting to see what happens. I don't suppose one of the two is going to be playing something other than catcher?
  12. This simple conundrum should indicate what we're not going to get for Fielder. More than likely I think we'll get a starting pitcher who has started the arby process and who may turn expensive shortly. Or we'll get a high upside guy with some MLB experience and an injury history. But I can't believe anyone would be dumb enough to give up a true AA or AAA stud who is 21/22 and ready to blossom. You never know. A team in contention may think Fielder will put them over the top. And may very well do that. We're talking about a perennial all-star and someone not only capable of but someone who has hit 50 home runs. I don't think it's unrealistic for a team to give up a pitching prospect who, while very talented, hasn't pitched in the majors yet.
  13. If the Brewers are out of it to the point of trading Fielder during the season, I won't necessarily mind not getting major league talent in return. We'd still be set at most positions, other than first base of course, but there are a few internal options there. Heck, Corey Hart could even move back to first base even he continues his improvement at the plate. I'd be ok with some minor league pitchers but only if they have #1 or #2 upside.
  14. I've been closely following Huntsville this year, both for the 5 you mentioned and the pitching. The prospects may not have the upside that the Huntsville team had a few years ago with Gamel/LaPorta/Brantley/Salome but at this point they are just as good, I think. I think Cain is the first to move up, once Logan Schafer comes back. I'd really, really love to see Lucroy move to a different position so we could keep both him and Salome as everyday players. I don't really see where he could go though....first base? Corner outfield? I'm really impressed Lawrie has been able to hold his own so far. He's not putting up all-star numbers quite yet, but considering how young he is for AA ball, I am very satisfied with his progress. Green has been a favorite of mine for awhile now. One stat that has really stuck out to me so far is the contact they have all been making. Lucroy: 3 k's in 42 at bats. Gindl: 2 k's in 45 at bats. Green: 7 k's in 39 at bats. All three with either more walks than k's or the same number.
  15. Yeah this all-star break or trading deadline would be a good time to trade because you could trade him to a contending team, say Tampa. Tampa could then re-coup some of their losses by trading him again after the season or they could hold onto him for all of 2010 and then take the picks. I would think a team like Tampa would value draft picks a little more than Milwaukee would since their budget is lower.
  16. As soon as the brewers figure out what they want to do with parra , narveson, and suppan They should have figured out what they were going to do with them in the off season. If I had known Parra would be the last guy out of the bullpen who pitched about once every four games I would have just preferred the Brewers trade him for an A-ball hitter with some upside. Stetter should be up and Suppan should not be on the roster.
  17. I was wondering about that myself. There a few prospect injuries I was wondering about. Butler, Anundson, Schafer, and Gamel.
  18. http://www.spike.com/blog/93847 Here's a list of all the season two match-ups. I cannot wait to see the Navy SEALs against the Israeli Commandos. I had a friend who was an Army Ranger. He said they did military exercises against the SEALs and the SEALs absolutely smoked them. And we're talking Army Rangers here, not exactly a ragtag group of soldiers here.
  19. I'm just curious if they told him when he chose to resign with this organization that he was going to be moving to the pen. He has shown a lot of loyalty to Milwaukee as I am sure they are plenty of organizations that would have let him continue starting. How is his velocity looking this year?
  20. Maybe its a bit of an unfair comparison. I guess depending on what kind of SWAT team they use. I don't think a local department's SWAT team would be able to compete, but perhaps if they used an FBI or DEA SWAT team made up of former special forces soldiers they'd have more of a shot.
  21. Just a quick note. The second new episode, which is a week from tomorrow, features Atila the Hun vs. Alexander the Great. Let's start an official prediction for the episodes here. Week One: SWAT vs GSG-9. I'm going with GSG-9 Week Two: Atila the Hun vs Alexander the Great. I'm going with Atila.
  22. I guess.....Chris Waters and Kameron Loe though? Even Chris Cody is getting starts ahead of him in Huntsville while Anundson is out.
  23. I just don't understand the Brewer's thinking. Last year they rushed him all the way up to Nashville. But this season not only does he get demoted to the bullpen, but they move him down a level? Why?
  24. So is the discussion of Braddock going back to starting more or less over? If so I'd be really disappointed. The guy is absolutely dominant. I'd hate to waste his potential on middle relief.
  25. Do you still have the sunday tickets available for the Brewers-Cubs game?
