  1. "If I'm the Brewers, I'd be willing to move Hader and Ray for a frontline starter with a few years of control left" I agree. Hader screams bullpen to me and Ray, who was supposed to be this big time advanced college hitter is struggling in A ball. I wouldn't mind seeing them traded before their prospect rankings start taking a big hit. Brinson is our future in CF and Santana looks like a keeper as well. That means we just have to fill LF and we still have Braun Phillips Clark Harrison and Cordell to take care that. I think Hader could be an effective reliever but if you can get a 2 or 3 with years of control then you do it. I'd Center a Quintana package around those two and hope two more mid level prospects can get it done. I don't necessarily believe the Brewers should be looking for a big name starter though. I think they should work on getting two solid bullpen arms and be done with it.
  2. I doubt that would be enough to get Gray. I don't see Clark having much trade value and honestly I don't think Ray would even be a top 100 prospect if he wasn't the #5 overall pick. Diplan has a lot of upside but surely Oakland will demand Woodruff, Hader or both. I also don't see the need for Gray right now. I'd much rather add bullpen help because that's our glaring hole right now.
  3. Let's not overreact and completely destroy the future we've been working so hard to improve. Get a bulllen arm or two and be done with it. I can't believe people are seriously considering trading Brinson or Ortiz or even Ray or Woodruff right now. I'd look for relievers that can get guys out in the 6th and 7th innings and I'd give up mid tier prospects to get them
  4. Ok so I just looked up Dennis Sarfate and he is still pitching in Japan and putting up absurdly good numbers. He has had an ERA under 2 four seasons in a row, not including this year where his ERA is a hair above 1. So seriously, let's go get Dennis Sarfate.
  5. Awesome! Now let's go find Dennis Sarfate!
  6. Can we expect Gilbert Lara to be demoted back down to Helena?
  7. If there's a question why not just get it done? He will be ready to start next season and you don't risk misdiagnosing him or having something happen that makes it worse (ala Taylor Williams). The last thing I want is for them treating him and "hoping" it works only to have it not work and all of a sudden he's going to surgery next June or July and missing half a season. It's my understanding he needs a lot of work defensively so having him DH doesn't really do him much good.
  8. Gatewood is having a good half season. He was horrible in Wisconsin the last two seasons. I'm certainly hoping he's figured something out. He's definitely taking more walks. But he has a long way to go in my mind to be someone who should be considered a possible allstar at the Major League level.
  9. If only some of our current prospects could have seasons that were "merely ok" then becuase our current guys aren't even in the same league as prospects as Braun, Fielder, Weeks and even Hart were, and neither are the numbers they are putting up in the minors. Other than Brinson and maybe Diaz I don't think there are any players in our system I can ever see being an all star, let alone a consistent star. I don't know what has happened but we just don't seem to be getting as much out of our prospects as we used to.
  10. Is this a development issue? Guys like Clark and Coulter and Ray and Nottingham are not bad hitters. Is it is something we are doing to them that is causing them to have such poor offensive numbers? Rushing players too much? Unnecessarily tweaking batting stances? Putting too much focus on power? It just can't be a coincidence that hardly any of these highly thought of prospects are having above average seasons offensively and I don't mean just his one season. Nottingham hasn't been good since he's got here. Ray has done nothing since being drafted and Clark seems like he should still be in Wisconsin. Diaz and Erceg shouldn't be struggling this much in A+, not after how good they were last year. And don't even get me started on Lara. He's been just awful.
  11. Oh ok. Yeah we've had some really poor draft picks lately.
  12. I think Weeks was close to a can't miss prospect when he was drafted. And I think after a year or two in the minors Braun and Fielder we both considered can't miss type prospects as well. Pitching is another matter. I don't recall ever having a can't miss pitching prospect in our system. I was really hoping we'd add an elite level talent this year in the draft but I don't get that sense with Hiura. Only time will tell of course but I'm really concerned about his defensive issues. He'll definitely need to hit his way into elite status.
  13. I'm not a big fan of the first three picks. Hiura can hit but where is going to play? And is he going to hit well enough to overcome his, im guessing, negative defensive value? At 9th overall I guess I'd have preferred a more complete player. And what's with his injury? I'm hearing Tommy John being thrown around? If so they better do it right away so he doesn't lose an entire season down the line. If he does it right now he could DH the first half of next year then figure out where he's going to play. Lutz I can live with. Not thrilled with passing on pitching for an outfielder.....again....but the talent and upside seem there. The Lemons pick I don't understand. There were seemingly so many more pitchers deserving of being picked there (Carlson, Canning, Crowe, Heatherly, to name a few) Second round seems awfully high to be drafting a guy that apparently needs so much work. Plus I'd guess he could have been had with their next pick The KJ Harrison pick I really like, especially if he can stick at catcher. I'm a little concerned with another guy with defensive questions but in the third round an advanced bat who might be able to play catcher is a good get. Murphy I like a lot. Good get with a HS lefty who can hopefully add a tick or two to his fastball and refine his breaking ball Egnatuk I know zero about (not that I know much about any of the other guys) but he seems like a guy who was picked to sign underslot. Hopefully he'll work out but who knows. Overall I'm not thrilled but I suppose it could be worse. I don't think they did enough to address their pitching woes but I'm not an expert so that's just an opinion. I think they could have gotten a guy with #2 upside and another with #3 upside. For us, that would be big. Oh well.
  14. What about the "we don't have hardly any quality pitching and we can't afford quality free agent pitching so we should probably look to draft some quality pitchers and hey look arguably two of the best players available are pitchers so maybe we quit wasting top picks on a position we are already loaded at" crowd? Im glad that you like the pick mainly because others hate it. That's very classy.
  15. Well we are a little short of outfielders.
  16. Come on Carlson. Come on Carlson.
  17. I just don't see how you pass on Baz, Buskauskas and Faedo for a guy who doesn't have a true position and will likely end up at either second base or left field. As usual I will root for the guy but as usual I walk away shaking my head.
  18. I agree but its hard to draft both quality and quantity at the same time. . Right now I'd argue our system is more quantity. Don't get me wrong we have a lot of good prospects. We just don't have very many really good ones. You only get so many chances to get a really good prospect. Top ten picks are one way. I don't want to see more depth at the expense of a higher quality player.
  19. But Medeiros wasn't the 12th best talent in that draft. There were better players available when they picked him. So to explain my stance with that draft I hope they avoid drafting Medeiros and instead draft whoever the best player left on the board was. I understand that it not necessarily true. It depends on your strategy. If your strategy is to pick to the best available talent, which is what I'm advocating, it should be true though. What I hope to avoid seeing is them selecting lesser talent in the first round. I think they need the best player they can get. In other words I'd rather see an A, a B, and a C then a B+ and two Bs. Hopefully that makes sense.
  20. I hear you. But the 9th best talent is still going to be better than he 20th best talent or whoever you take. I realize if you go 9 and pay him slot then you can't necessarily reach higher with 34. But honestly with the depth we have in our system I'd rather go 9 and 34 then, say, 20 and 22. I think we need the elite type player and while I realize anyone could turn into the elite type player I think the odds are more likely that the more talented guy will. As far as our pick goes I am convinced we are taking Adell but I still have hopes for either Baz, Faedo or Bukauskas.
  21. The Brewers don't need depth. They need talent. If they pass on superior talent to save money for later rounds I'll be furious.
  22. Are we still allowed to vote? I'm torn between who I want them to pick and who I think they'll pick. My vote is: Brewers select: Alex Faedo.
  23. Alex Faedo looking darn good vs Wake Forrest in the super regionals today. 9 Ks thru four innings and topping out at 96. Hopefully the lightning delay doesn't last too long and he can get back out there. I still prefer pitching and Faedo, Bukauskas and Baz are the three guys I like best.
  24. The more I red up on scouting reviews the more I'm liking Baz for our pick. Plenty of ceiling and not at a position we are loaded at. MLB.com has him with 3 pitches 60 grade or better.
  25. I'm usually all about high ceilings but we've busted with ALOT of top picks lately. Jungmann Bradley Coulter Roache Medeiros Kentrail Davis and Arnett all since 2009. We need to do a better job and I'm just concerned about using a top ten pick on someone who has such a concern about his hit tool
