  1. I agree. I have been a huge TT fan since the beginning and maybe his biggest apologist but this is my biggest issue and TT refuses to address needs anywhere besides the draft. I'm a huge draft and develop fan and don't scream for them to sign high priced FAs since they are so volatile but what I would like TT to do is replace the last few spots on the roster with mid level FAs or aging vets that don't require you to break the bank. There were a couple of years where our safeties were terrible and it would have been nice to bring a stopgap guy like a Jim Leonhard type until we drafted and/or developed someone else. Those guys aren't going to be stars but they have more experience and it keeps you from having to throw young guys to the wolves. As far as MM, I believe he is a good coach and will have success somewhere after he is done here but it doesn't seem like his message is getting through anymore and it's time for a change. Ideally, I'd like to see TT retire so we can start the Eliot Wolf era and let him make the decision on MM.
  2. I don't even want to imagine what Briggs is doing as he reads these proposals...
  3. Maybe I'm wrong but since Counsell came from the front office, I always assumed that the manager gig was "temporary" and when he's "done", he'll move back to the front office. I thought he had aspirations of being an executive rather than a manager but I don't have any proof and I can't remember if I read it or if I just had that feeling.
  4. I'm guessing there was so much money being thrown around for tickets that Cleveland fans cashed in.
  5. It was flier with a conditional pick. I'm guessing if he wasn't on the roster for X number of weeks you don't give up a pick. They don't see him as part of their short or long term future, so they let him go before it cost them a pick.
  6. In the video, it said that the call was flashed on the scoreboard as well, so everyone in the stands would know what the correct call was. Regarding home team adjustments, have the technical person be an employee of MLB and part of the umpiring crew. More ump jobs may be a way to keep the umpires happy. Regarding the close calls, tennis is able to figure it out. I'm sure they can, or do use, similar technology with the strike zone. Even if it's slightly off, it will be off consistently which is a huge improvement over what they have now.
  7. Keep the political garbage in the political forum.
  8. I think that's pretty accurate for Marquette. If they can overachieve by a couple of games, they could sneak in. I'm expecting NIT this year though.
  9. I'd go with a 3-0 series lead for the Cubs and lose the next 4 after leading late in each one.
  10. On the first run that scored for the Cubs last night, the left fielder picked up the ball in medium left while the runner was touching 3rd. He was a dead duck... except the throw was at least 30 feet up the first base line. Was that a good decision or a bad decision to send him?
  11. I see no reason to not play Villar at 2b next year, it's another rebuild year and they have the luxury of letting him learn the position without it hurting anything. I would assume they will treat 3b much like they did CF and SS (and I guess 3b) last offseason and will bring in some used-to-be prospects to battle it out and hope one sticks.
  12. Is it possible that he is referring to batting cages, warm up areas, bikes, etc. that are accessible from the tunnel?
  13. He should have gotten out of the first with no runs. Villar had 2 plays that could have gotten him out of the inning. The first one was difficult but the second one is made by most MLB shortstops, especially since there was a force at 2nd.
  14. Brinson with a walk tonight too. He now does it all
  15. He hit 2 homes AND walked tonight.
  16. Brinson with a leadoff homer. Picking up where he left off.
  17. Nobody mentioned his little league bat. With his strength and bat speed, I would have loved to see him use a bat closer to Braun's. That toothpick he used couldn't have helped him.
  18. I don't have evidence to back it up but it "feels" like we're attacking hitters more this year than we since Maddux left, rather than nibbling so much. It always felt like in recent years we'd start out 0-2 and inevitably end up in a full count. Seemed like we had way higher pitch counts in the early innings in past years but maybe that's just because Gallardo is gone. I'm curious to see what the stats would say but I wouldn't know where to start looking.
  19. Brinson's OBP is the same as his batting average. Pfffft... I won't be impressed until he shows he can take some walks.
  20. I have to believe we got the best deal we could. Is it "fair" that relief pitchers are more valuable than one of the best catchers in MLB? No, but there is more demand for them right now and the market is the market. The Mets deal sounded like garbage and there were no other solid rumors about what other teams were offering. Many have said that this is the most value that Luc would have, he had to be gone by the deadline and the risk would be too high to wait. Stearns could have demanded all he wanted but when you don't have several teams desperate for your guy, you have to take the best offer.
  21. Sometimes they can get pulled out mid game. Also now that the Brewers game is about to start and Lucroy would have to approve/negotiate his no trade clause being waived nothing will happen for hours now I would think. I highly doubt that they would be in the final stages of negotiations if they hadn't already received Lucroy's blessing.
  22. I don't really believe the Mets reports. The trade will happen with someone that hasn't been leaked to be close IMO... which is pretty much anyone but the Mets at this point.
  23. Why is it dumb? We're not playing for anything, why not let the "kid" see what he can do?
