  1. I'm still wondering about a part of Broxton's hitting ritual. He leans back several times and also almost looks like he is about to sit down. Of course he straightens back up for the swing, but found it odd and cant figure out the reason. Then I saw that Villar kind of does the same thing. There must be a reason but I'll be darned if I can figure it out
  2. At this point in our teams development I don't think its crucial who we bring up. Gotta say I wouldn't mind someone capable of hitting above .200
  3. Considering the roster includes no less than 20 guys looking to stick around at the big league level, any lack of motivation would have to be an individual flaw, not managerial. Counsell is the manager, not unlike an NFL head coach, you have assistant coaches who teach on a daily basis. Don't know how much he participates in that aspect, but if he doesn't, teaching still happens.
  4. That is not what anybody is saying. What if, with regular playing time, Broxton turns into a really good player? That helps Counsell's career and the Brewers win more. "You can try to win while not particularly caring if you do win" Thats what I responded to. Pure and simple
  5. I don't think you quite understand the point that is being made. Winning is great, no one wants to lose and fans don't want to see losses. However, as presented, the Brewers are concerned more about rebuilding and evaluating talent throughout the organization: top to bottom. If they were more concerned with how many games they won this year, they would not have been so eager to trade Lucroy, and Jeffress, and Smith. I do understand. Fans want Counsell to ruin his own career by making coaching moves to lose on purpose. To go against everything that has been in his blood for 30 years. Why not just ask Braun to strike out more too ? He has enough money. He doesnt care about his resume or self respect either. We could get a higher draft pick. Maybe have fines for multi-hit games, or fines for pitching well. How about bonuses for striking out or blowing a save. Dont we have agents in the house ? Lets get their opinion on tanking. I'll be they're all for it too.
  6. That's a little insulting because I've played competitive and recreational sports and always cared about winning. I also know that when you're in a situation like the Brewers, it's not all about winning. Coaches need to be able to separate these things. Nobody is saying go out there and let Blazek pitch 5 innings so the other team scores like 6 or 7 runs off of him and guarantee we lose. It's not too much to ask to play a young, toolsy centerfielder most of the time in place of Kirk Nieuwenhuis to evaluate said centerfielder and possibly see if he's a future piece on our next contending team. We already know what Nieuwenhuis is. A 4th or 5th outfielder. Now, if we didn't have Broxton, then by all means let Nieuwenhuis play everyday. He's a decent filler on a rebuilding team that you might be able to extract a little from in a trade. That's not the case here. Once again, nobody is saying sit Braun for the rest of the season so we can play (insert crappy player here) to lose more games. Nobody is saying hey that Villar guy is playing too well. Better bring up Brandon Macias and let him play over him so we can lose more. Then you should know better. These guys have trained and trained and spent their whole lives dedicating themselves to one thing. And that one thing does not include a clause about tanking. Coaches are hired to win ball games. It's easy for fans to tell Counsell to add a 100 loss season to his resume. Would you willingly do that ? I'm guessing he would rather not. Players and coaches do not play to lose.
  7. I agree with some of what you said, but I don't get this part. Why do you resent him getting his way? You do realize the Brewers wanted to trade him just as much as he wanted to be traded? Yet nobody is upset that the Brewers got their way. If Lucroy never said anything, I suppose everyone would be upset with the Brewers for trading him. I mention all this because you seem to imply Lucroy somehow forced the Brewers into trading him. Apologies up front if that's not what you meant. As I said, he aired dirty laundry, he lied, he acted like a douche, and put himself above the current players and team he signed a contract to play for. He didn't force his way out, and would have been traded regardless, but thats no reason to act like a spoiled child. With all his talk about wanting to play for a winner when a million guys ten times better than him played for medicracy their whole career, I wish he would have ended up on a last place team.
  8. You can try to win while not particularly caring if you do win and in the meantime give players with a potential future with the team the majority of the playing time over veteran fillers, which likely leads to more losses but also helps you evaluate for the future. I doubt that's a trait that Counsell has or he would have never carved out the career he had. I also highly doubt that's a trait you acquire just because you become coach. Every time someone talks about tanking the first thing I think of is they have never played organized sports. Or recreational sports for that matter.
  9. Lucroy is not a guy you are gonna look back on and say "we let one slip away" so on one hand, no big deal. On the other hand, I agree he walked a very fine line, and not very well. -Don't ever say it's not about the money. It makes you an immediate liar. -Don't ever say it's best if you are traded. It makes you a douchebag -No one wants to play for a losing team, so don't say it as if it's just you. A million players better than you have done it. -No one wants to re-build, remember when you sucked ? Spin it however you want, he aired dirty laundry and shouldn't have. For that reason alone, I resent him getting his way to a winner via trade. If you are worried about winning and maximizing yourself, sign a one year deal. You wanted security and signed a multi year deal. Keep your mouth shut. http://archive.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/jonathan-lucroy-thinks-trade-would-be-best-for-him-and-brewers-b99654302z1-365824811.html
  10. That didn't take long. He's starting at ss batting 7th
  11. Talent is talent - peoples jobs depend on finding it - even if it's in Milwaukee Pitching just happens to be the flavor of the day I do believe there is a bit of "small market team can't keep him so let's force a good deal" but thats about it
  12. It was actually leprechauns who landed on the moon and aliens for 9-11 --- I thought you guys were smart
  13. I'm actually fine with the return after the events of the past two days. You have to give Stearns the benefit of the doubt. They have how many guys evaluating talent every single day ? Personally I dont care for a 20 year old with weight issues. I mean if you can shed it when youre 20 when can you ? Again have to trust Stearns. I stand by the PTBN, after the deal is done its always tough to get who want, the advantage goes to the seller
  14. He reportedly ate a teammate after the bus broke down on a road trip 2 miles from Burger King Preliminary medical: digestive issues
  15. Someone needs to nudge that first domino I think
  16. Jayson Starks tweeted that teams are saying the price for Lucroy hasn't dropped on the last day - so that's good
  17. I just can't believe you would want a guy with people skills problems as a catcher for your team
  18. The sad thing and the reality is the Brewers don't have a choice but to rebuild this way. What sucks is that as a Brewers fan I can never really go all in with them because I know that it's not a level playing field and they are at such a disadvantage. Not being able to take advantage of all avenues of acquiring talent makes the row so much harder to hoe. IMO the chances of re-creating Braun, Fielder, Weeks, Hardy is minute. That was a perfect storm that I'm not sure how often can happen and we still came up short.
