  1. Ditto, I think Eppler stays. I've read he and Stearns are close, anyway, so I don't think he's going to go in and complete tear down everything Eppler has done and the people he's put in place, at least not immediately. So I don't think that we'll see too many guys from the front office go. I'd be more wary of Stearns trying to bring Counsell over (don't think it would happen though). I don't know what happened in NY to take that 100 win team and turn it into what it was pre-deadline, but I'd clean out the field staff that's been running things and start fresh if I were Stearns. I hope you all have a great day.
  2. Maybe it's changed (this Tweet is nearly two years old), but there used to be a limit of one for the number of execs one team could take from another.
  3. The Athletic mentioned last night that "the Brewers are among multiple teams to express interest in Mark Canha". Link (subscription required) No more details, other than the Dodgers are also interested (along with a few other unmentioned teams). I wonder if they'd take Winker back in a deal, to even out the salary a little? Canha wouldn't move the needle too much, but that would be a pretty solid upgrade of a roster spot, going from Winker to Canha. Like the Braves swapping Pablo Sandoval for Eddie Rosario in 2021, nothing major, but a little upgrade.
  4. The Mets are covering Escobar's salary the rest of the season (minus the Major League minimum and the $500K buyout of next season's option). That'll likely be the case for any other moves the Mets make at the deadline, too. They'll either offer to cover any salary of traded players, or absorb bad contracts, in order to up the quality of what they get in return.
  5. The Mets have recently developed a "prospect huggers" reputation. Their preference seems to be spend/outbid rather than trade assets. The Rangers feel like the best fit to me, given what they did last winter. Not much of an early read on what Chris Young will be like as a team-builder yet, but they really need to backup what they did last off-season.
  6. Yeah, I feel like shortstop/Adames is low on the priority list for potential changes this off-season. If an opportunity comes up to make a good move there, then do it, but as of right now it's pretty well settled. It's a good spot to be in. There's a lot of high-end talent at shortstop in MLB, but that high-end talent is expensive, probably too expensive here. And the drop off from the stars to the rest is pretty steep. Adames has his warts, but he's solid with some upside. The Brewers are in a better spot there than a lot of teams.
