  1. Is this the dog whistle thread?
  2. My favorite part of this Cards/Acuna "Right Way" nonsense was Carlos Martinez almost moonwalking ( ) off the mound after a strike out, but then complaining about Acuna with this laughable line: "I simply want him to respect the game and respect me as a veteran player". He'd probably respect you if you could get him out, Carlos.
  3. I think it’s more likely that the Braves pitching staff cost them the game, 7 runs in will beat you more often than not. Maybe they should have performed better. Laying the blame on an electrifying 21 year old who went 3/4 with a walk and a 2-run HR is asinine.
  4. This Verlander/Glasnow matchup is fun. Poor Pirates fans
  5. This year Hader was not the shutdown two inning guy he was last year. I'd love to see his 8th inning stats because I swear nearly everytime he came in the 8th, there was trouble. Knew it was coming last night. Hader's 8th inning stats compared to his 9th inning stats are very similar except an increase in BB/HR and therefore an increase in ERA. BA/OBP/SLG still very good. In 48.1 IP in the 9th inning, Hader has a 1.86 ERA with 7 HR allowed and 90 K's to 10 BB. Batters are hitting .152/.203/.327 against him in the 9th. In 21.2 IP in the 8th inning, Hader has a 4.15 ERA with 6 HR allowed and 41 K's to 7 BB. Batters are hitting .167/.253/.423 against him in the 8th.
  6. Checking in on the Brewers players in the AFL so far to continue pushing the memory of last night out of my mind. Here are some numbers (super small sample-size alert): PITCHERS Quintin Torres-Costa 4 Games 4 IP 2 H 1 ER 4 BB 6 K 2.25 ERA/1.50 WHIP Robbie Hitt 3 Games 4 IP 3 H 1 ER 2 BB 4 K 2.25 ERA/1.25 WHIP Victor Castaneda 2 Games 7.2 IP 6 H 4 ER 1 BB 10 K 4.70 ERA/0.91 WHIP Clayton Andrews 4 Games 4.2 IP 4 H 3 ER 4 BB 8 K 5.79 ERA/1.71 WHIP HITTERS David Fry 5 Games 7/19 (.368/.429/.421) 2 runs 2 RBI 1 2B 2 BB/7 K Jake Gatewood 4 Games 2/13 (.154/.267/.154) 3 runs 2 BB/2 K Pablo Abreu 4 Games 2/14 (.143/.143/.143) 1 run 1 RBI 0 BB/8 K
  7. I played this matchup in MLB The Show today and the Brewers won 12-0, Grisham was a triple shy of the cycle and drove in 4. So we got that going for us, which is nice!
  8. I've read that Corbin is available out of the bullpen if needed. That's part of why I think Austin over Shaw. We'll have Spang/Gamel available off the bench already. I think I'd rather have Austin PH in the 8th inning against Corbin/Doolittle over Perez. There really isn't a wrong answer though. I'll add, I think the Brewers will be in a fantastic place if either Doolittle or Hudson pitches tomorrow(that or losing by 8 runs and completely toast). Washington has to be thinking Scherzer for at least 5 with Corbin/Stras finishing if the game is close. Even if Corbin is just a decoy, they could easily do 6 and 3 or 5 and 4 with their 2 horses. Both are better options than Hudson/Doolittle. I was thinking Shaw instead of Austin mainly for the defense, but also because Gamel can be used against righties or lefties and I'd rather have him facing Doolittle or Corbin than Austin, unless we're specifically in need of a home run. Gamel's numbers vs. lefties this season are even more impressive than I thought (only 79 PA, but still): .354/.456/.446 3 2B 1 HR 8 RBI 12 BB/22 K
  9. Speaking of former Brewers in Baltimore, Villar's OPS is below .700 and he's proving to be the same crappy player he was in Milwaukee outside on one season. What a difference 4+ months makes. Final slash line: 274/339/453 40/49 on stolen bases The 1st 20 HR/40 SB guy in MLB since... Carlos Gomez in 2013 with the Crew. Villar also played in all 162 games this season, very impressive year. 4.0 WAR according to Fangraphs and BBRef.
  10. My Wild Card Roster (assuming Braun and Cain are able to play): Position Players C - Grandal 1B - Thames 2B - Hiura 3B - Moustakas SS - Arcia OF - Braun OF - Cain OF - Grisham Bench/Utility - Pina, Spangenberg, Perez, Gamel, Taylor, Shaw Pitchers Woodruff Lyles Suter Peralta Hader Pomeranz Guerra Jackson Claudio Anderson Davies Anderson and Davies would be extra innings insurance, and Shaw - although terrible offensively this year - can play 2 positions well if needed for a double switch, unlike Austin - who also isn't a good hitter. Since we'll most likely be seeing all right-handed pitching (Scherzer and Strasburg + maybe Hudson, Doolittle being the only real lefty unless they throw Corbin on short rest), can't hurt to have another lefty bat.
  11. Some combo of Woodruff/Lyles/Suter/Pomeranz/Guerra/Hader will get it done vs. Scherzer on Tuesday. Forget about this series, we're in the playoffs, LET'S GO CREW!
  12. This path to the World Series Championship is going to be so satisfying! Beat Scherzer in the WC Beat LA in the NLDS Beat the Cards in the NLCS Beat the Yankees in the WS
  13. Contreras just got thrown out trying to stretch a seeing eye single into a double
  14. I started reading that and stopped after a few paragraphs. Clearly.
  15. https://deadspin.com/maybe-you-just-like-watching-baseball-games-1838013774 Thought this was a good rebuttal to Sawchik’s article, especially because the first thing I thought when I read his piece was essentially this: It’s interesting that as we have been hearing more and more about how horribly underpaid most MiLB players are, we’re starting to get takes about contracting MiLB affiliates, backed by shadowy “analytics” of course.
  16. The Iowa Cubs will certainly give a better effort than the guys who just laid down and gave up for the last 2 weeks, so I’m on board with it.
  17. LOL they’re totally going to overturn this aren’t they
  18. That was a vintage Rodgers toss! Beauty
  19. I think it might be time to abandon the run for a bit
  20. The fact that a clear DPI like that can be missed live, but now challenged with these stupid PI challenges that are extremely sketchy and STILL missed is why I don’t watch the NFL at all outside the Pack anymore. This league is unbearably stupid in all facets.
  21. Craig talking about putting Junior in for the 9th because it was Stearns' first move ever to acquire him, and it was "a little sentimental on my part". Pretty cool
