  1. Is Bauer really enough of an upgrade over Davies or Suter to justify Santana AND multiple prospects?
  2. Broxton is not landing a starting pitcher. He is a spare part throw in on such a deal. If we want quality, our bench guys aren't going to get it done. The rumored speculation, as reliable as it can be, says the DBacks want to cut some salary, and would prefer trading free-agent-to-be Corbin over trading Greinke in a blockbuster. It would be a minor salary dump by the DBacks. And because of that Broxton, rather than Santana or Phillips, is the rumored return.
  3. Boomer, I would quote your comment, but the previous quote is much too long to include it. Every team's fan base will have many that are like that. Personally, my opinion of prospects doesn't change except to figure in ballpark factors. I still think Brinson has the ability to be prime-years Andrew McCutcheon without the Gold Glove. I'm not convinced Burnes is a sure thing, but he should be untouchable simply because a team like the Brewers has problems signing top free agent starters and retaining quality starting pitchers they develop themselves. If Nelson comes back strong and has another two good seasons after does anyone really think we can afford to resign him when if he's a free agent? And Burnes has shown far too much to trade him away for anyone at this point.
  4. There's been reported talks between the Brewers and DBacks regarding Corbin. The speculation is on what the return would be and that speculation centers around Broxton. Of course, there's been reported talks between the Brewers and any team that has a starting pitcher between the age of 5-97. And that speculation centers around the spare outfielders. The point is, if the Archer trade costs too much in prospects, don't do it. And it would be better to pivot to a cheap trade for a one year rental than sign one of the free agents to a long term deal. That proposed deal that isn't good enough this offseason might be when there's only three years of control of Archer.
  5. Really? The owners do nothing? What do they truly, actually do besides make money? That is what they own teams for. What do baseball owners contribute to make the sport better in any way? What does the owner of any business contribute to make the world better in any way? One day the workers will rise in revolt! VIVA LA REVOLUCION!!!
  6. I LOVE Chris Archer and think he would be the perfect addition. That being said, no trade should include Hiura or Burnes. If Hiura is able to play even Weeksian defense at second, he's got the possibility of being the second coming of Wade Boggs. Crazy high Avg, not many home runs, lots of doubles. Burnes might not be the real deal, and his trade value might not be higher, but for a franchise that has the difficulties signing and retaining quality pitchers the Brewers do, he's shown far too much to trade away. If that's the cost, I say punt, do the Broxton for Corbin deal and look for another starter at the break or next offseason. I'm more than comfortable with Nelson (when he returns), Anderson, Davies, Corbin, Chacin with 10-15 starts from Suter/Woodruff until Nelson comes back.
  7. Usually it's the $20K waiver fee.
  8. The usual return on this type of trade is the $20K waiver fee.
  9. You gotta figure the players will want to cut back on the controllable years in the next CBA. It seems the elimination of arbitration and free agency after four years is a good compromise. Players get free agency two years earlier. Teams get another year (or two in the case of Super Two players) at league minimum.
  10. Sorry, I don't see this guy being better than Suter.
  11. There's the possibility of adding ONE more starting pitcher, either through a trade or a free agent signing, but the chances of adding two is nil. Payroll is about $90M now. Adding a free agent starter along with one from a trade (presumably Archer) would add another $25M-$35M to that. That puts the payroll above what it was anytime during the 08-14 window. Pitcher X, Nelson (when he returns), Anderson, Davies, Chachin. There's your rotation. They aren't going to be paying Chacin $8M to pitch out of the bullpen when Nelson comes back.
  12. The question comes down to if one thinks the team is going to need many replacements from the minors over the next couple of years. Whether or not one thinks the players currently on the team are good enough to make the World Series. Because after an Archer trade, only a couple of minor players a year would need to be replaced. In three seasons, in 2020, the only players on the current roster that wouldn't still be under control are Vogt, Sogard, Chacin, Gallardo, Albers and Logan.
