1. Organizational debuts yesterday in the Arizona Complex League for: - RHP Yerlin Rodriguez - 19 - Dominican Republic - 3B Beyker Pastran - 18 - Venezuela And a welcome back to OF Jhonny David, who hadn’t played since a 2018 injury. Second straight walk-off loss for ACL Brewers Blue however - 8-7 to the Indians, despite homers from Jesus Chirinos, Arbert Cipion and top-30 prospect Eduardo Garcia, plus 3 hits from Terence Doston: https://www.milb.com/gameday/acl-brewers-blue-vs-acl-indians/2021/07/06/658176#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=box,game=658176 And the Gold team’s tentative Thursday season opener has now been cancelled: http://www.milb.com/schedule/results.jsp?cid=406
2. Joe Gray Jr., batting 5th and playing center field, makes his debut for 25-28 Wisconsin, which hosts 35-17 Quad Cities this week:
3. Ethan Small makes his third start for 33-19 Nashville, which is on the road this week against 23-30 Gwinnett: 1 - Lopes - CF 2 - Fisher - RF 3 - Hummel - LF 4 - Westbrook - 2B 5 - Green - 3B 6 - W. Wilson - 1B 7 - Henry - C 8 - Coca - SS 9 - Small - P
4. David Fry returns to the lineup as 16-37 Biloxi aims to stop a 3-game skid, commencing their series at home against 28-25 Birmingham:
5. Zavier Warren plugs into the 3-hole and Joey Wiemer makes his third start of the year in centerfield, as 30-23 Carolina opens its series at home against 26-26 Lynchburg:
6. Understood and thanks. I think we’ll pick up some bullpen arms later this month. Happy to see us try to improve the offense. I think we’ll ultimately need Yelich to mash if we’re going to make real noise when it matters most.
7. That’s not quite how I remember 2014, when we scored 4.32 runs per game through July 31st, then scored 3.38 runs the final two months of the year. We had a gaping need to upgrade first base, were 20+ games ahead of the Rockies and didn’t trade for Justin Morneau. So I’m glad to see we’re not sitting on our hands with mediocrity at first base this time around. In Stearns and Counsell we trust! That said, maybe our bullpen also fell apart in 2014. It was an abysmal stretch. But our overall pitching didn’t change: 4.06 runs yielded per game through July and for full season.
8. First lineup of the year for the Brewers Blue club in the Arizona Complex League, who square off against the Angels: 1 - Arbert Cipion - CF 2 - Carlos Ria - 2B 3 - Eduardo Garcia - SS 4 - Jesus Chirinos - 1B 5 - Blayberg Diaz - C 6 - Jheremy Vargas - 3B 7 - Larry Ernesto - RF 8 - Oswel Leones - DH 9 - Reidy Mercado - LF X - Who’s pitching? - P [EDIT] Starting Pitcher: Brailin Rodriguez - Dominican Republic
9. Hey hey, we have a roster for the Brewers Blue team, which plays their first game tonight in the Arizona Complex League. Note that 9 other players are on the Gold roster, which appears still delayed due to Covid protocols (Hedbert Perez, Jesus Parra, Eduarqui Fernandez, Branlyn Jaraba, Johnnys Cabrera, Juan Frias, Santiago Elizondo, Kelvin Bender, Jeison Pena). Pitchers: F3EBE520-B64C-4A16-B5CC-ABE5B347929D.jpeg
10. OF Joe Gray Jr. promoted from Low-A Carolina to High-A Wisconsin. Well-deserved for the RBI leader across the entire MILB.
11. Bowden Francis (3.86 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 10.2 K/9 in 53.2 innings in AA and AAA), is seeking his 7th win of the year and 4th as a Nashville Sound:
12. Garrett Mitchell is being promoted to AA Biloxi per Nolan Bratt @BrewersFarm.
13. Biloxi turns to the battery of Lucas Erceg and Brent Diaz to try to halt a 2-game skid. Diaz hit a big 7th inning homer yesterday, but it wasn't enough. We hope David Fry is available and Tyler Friis is recovering: 1 - Devanney - 2B 2 - Turang - SS 3 - Castro - 1B 4 - Palma - DH 5 - Spanberger- RF 6 - G. Garcia - 3B 7 - Lujano - LF 8 - Diaz - C 9 - Aguilar - CF X - Erceg - P
14. Garrett Mitchell first 3 innings: 3-for-3, 2 HRs, 6 RBIs. Singled and hit a grand slam in the same inning. Rattlers up 12-0. Kinda forcing a move, no? Would be nice if Howell, Hamilton and Dillard can accompany him, in my opinion. Oh, and Hayden Cantrelle has also homered twice in 2 at-bats through 3 innings.
15. Garrett Mitchell remains on fire through 113PAs (1.042 OPS, 27 BBs vs. 30 Ks, 12 SBs vs. 1 CS), as the Timber Rattlers look for a second straight win: 1 - David Hamilton SS 2 - Korry Howell 3B 3 - Garrett Mitchell DH 4 - Thomas Dillard C 5 - Hayden Cantrelle 2B 6 - Je’Von Ward LF 7 - Carlos Rodríguez CF 8 - LG Castillo RF 9 - Chad McClanahan 1B X - Freisis Adames SP From Chris Mehring:
16. Zavier Warren, Ernesto Martinez and others look to lead the Mudcats to a second straight victory, while Joe Gray Jr. and Felix Valerio catch a breather:
17. OF Jesus Lujano is back in AA Biloxi, looking to stay up permanently this time: 1 - Devanney - 2B 2 - Turang - SS 3 - Castro - 1B 4 - Palma - DH 5 - Spanberger - RF 6 - G. Garcia - 3B 7 - Lujano - LF 8 - Diaz - C 9 - Aguilar - CF X - Zavolas - P
18. After 3 consecutive 1-run losses, Justin Bullock (3-1 record in 4 Wisconsin starts) takes the mound to reverse the Timber Rattlers’ recent fortune:
19. Jamie Westbrook and Derek Fisher are welcome additions back into the Sounds lineup, as they aim to win a second in a row:
20. Gabe Holt has a 5-game hitting streak (9 hits in 15 at bats, 7 walks and no strikeouts), as he leads the Mudcats to try to snap their 7-game skid:
21. RHP Edinson Mejia is listed as Suspended on the DSL roster. He was part of the official MILB Spring Training roster a few months back, so I believe the club intend(ed) him to play in the Arizona Complex League this year. https://www.milb.com/player/edinson-mejia-690851
22. Five more Arizona Complex League players placed on 60-day injured list (Covid protocols presumed for all), bringing the total to thirteen: Jesus Parra, Eduarqui Fernandez, Juan Frias, Jose Caballero, Jose Chavez.
23. The Shuckers try to win their second in a row, led by the red-hot Brice Turang (five straight multi-hit games): 1 - Devanney - 2B 2 - Turang - SS 3 - Castro - 1B 4 - Palma - LF 5 - Spanberger - RF 6 - Fry - C 7 - Erceg - DH 8 - G. Garcia - 3B 9 - Aguilar - CF X - Derby - P
24. Carlos Luna makes his second start of the year for the Timber Rattlers, having looked excellent thus far (0.51 ERA, 0.51 WHIP, 11.7 K/9 through 17.2 innings):
25. Josh Lindblom looks to continue his recent terrific run (0.89 ERA in 20.1 innings over last 5 outings) and lead the Sounds to victory. Have to wonder whether Christian Kelley is injured (last played June 24th), as Payton Henry makes his 34th start of the year (2 levels) at catcher:
