1. Nashville goes for its 7th straight victory, led by Pablo Reyes in his first minor league game (of record) in 2021: 1 - Reyes - SS 2 - Fisher - DH 3 - D. Peterson - LF 4 - Green - 3B 5 - Perez - 1B 6 - Ray - CF 7 - Lopes - 2B 8 - Cozens - RF 9 - Maile - C X - LeBlanc - P
2. Two more transactions noted from MILB roster pages: C Zavier Warren (2020 3rd round pick) placed on 60-Day Injured List by Carolina. This sounds terrible, though I've no idea when/where the injury occurred. RHP Harold Chirino (I think he's Stearns' first signed player who's still in the system) moved to Temporary Inactive List by Wisconsin.
3. The 10-8 Carolina Mudcats return home to face the 2-16 Kannapolis Cannon Ballers:
4. Player moves: OF Cooper Hummel added to the roster for @nashvillesounds RHP Evan Reifert promoted to @TimberRattlers RHP Kent Hasler promoted to @CarolinaMudcats INF Jake Hager claimed from the Mets and optioned to @nashvillesounds OF Tyrone Taylor optioned to @nashvillesounds RHP Eric Yardley reinstated to @Brewers MLB roster from the 10-day injured list
5. With the AAA Sounds losing Keston Hiura (recall to MLB), Dee Strange-Gordon (release) and Jace Peterson (DFA) over the past few days, I want to believe that Jamie Westbrook will re-join the team from the AA Shuckers. Of course, Cooper Hummel could re-appear out of thin air (from injury) or they could promote another player (e.g. Erceg, Palma). Let's see... Oh, and as reported elsewhere, Logan Forsythe and Clayton Andrews were named to the US Olympic Qualifying Roster. Congrats to them! The Sounds now list them on the Temporary Inactive List, so this could cause a further ripple effect in the system.
6. Whilst our eyes are understandably focused on today’s expected call-up of Keston Hiura, I think the team also faces a decision on Jace Peterson today or tomorrow, as his rehab is not meant to last more than 20 days. Since Jace Peterson and Daniel Robertson are both out of options, this may be a tough decision for the club.
7. Keston Hiura (1.348 OPS through 35 PAs) returns to the Sounds' lineup, as they go for their 6th straight win:
8. Lucas Erceg (.911 OPS), Tristen Lutz (.893 OPS) and David Fry (.827 OPS) try to get the Shuckers back on track with a win today: 1 - Lutz - RF 2 - Turang - SS 3 - Longo - LF 4 - Palma - DH 5 - Erceg - 3B 6 - Fry - 2B 7 - Spanberger - 1B 8 - Diaz - C 9 - Aguilar - CF X - Zavolas - P
9. Korry Howell (1.117 OPS) and Jesus Lujano (1.014 OPS across two levels) look to power the Timber Rattlers to a third consecutive win:
10. Joe Gray has homered two days in a row. Let's make it three and gets a Mudcats victory:
11. I wasn’t aware that the Rocky Mountain Vibes had been converted to a minor league affiliate of the Mexican League’s Monclova Acereros, but I will say that the Monclova roster is pure gold: - ex-Brewers K-Rod, Chris Carter, Eric Young Jr., Zack Segovia, Jon Perrin, Conor Harber - K-Rod (now 39) is 8 years younger than one of his teammates, Ruben Rivera (47), who’s probably best known for a mis-deed from 19 years ago http://acereros.com.mx/roster/
12. The Shuckers seek to roll to a third straight victory over Tennessee, lining up as follows: 1 - Lutz - RF 2- Longo - CF 3 - Westbrook - 3B 4 - Castro - LF 5 - Erceg - DH 6 - Henry - C 7 - Spanberger - 1B 8 - Friis - 2B 9 - Devanney - SS X - Contreras - P
13. The 10-6 Mudcats look to win their third straight over 11-5 Delmarva, led by Ernesto Martinez (.897 OPS), Ashton McGee (.874 OPS) and Noah Campbell (.816 OPS):
14. The Sounds go for their 5th straight win, with Zach Godley on the mound to start:
15. After hanging on for a 9-8 victory in the first game, here's how the Timber Rattlers are lining up for the second game of their doubleheader: 1 - Howell - CF 2 - Cantrelle - 2B 3 - Hamilton - SS 4 - Dillard - C 5 - Rodriguez - RF 6 - Garcia - 3B 7 - Lujano - LF 8 - Castillo - DH 9 - McClanahan - 1B X - Bennett - P
16. From Tom Haudricourt: "#Brewers announce veteran INF Dee Strange-Gordon has been released from @nashvillesounds. Obviously wasn't in their big-league picture with acquisition of Willy Adames. I'm guessing he exercised his opt-out right. Was signed after season began. I'd really thought we'd give a shot to a middle infielder hitting .333 in AAA, with only 5 Ks in 45 PAs, but I'm obviously missing something. Best of luck to Dee Strange-Gordon.
17. It's a doubleheader for the Timber Rattlers today, starting in less than one hour. Here's the lineup for Game One:
18. This isn't working out. I guess he's lost his confidence by this point. If we're only going to scratch out 2-4 runs a game, I don't think he can be on the team, I'm sorry to say. Seems like a nice guy who's still guaranteed another $5m or so, so he'll be fine if we move on.
19. Ethan Small goes for his second consecutive win, supported by a strong Shucker lineup: 1 - Lutz - RF 2 - Turang - SS 3 - Westbrook - 3B 4 - Castro - LF 5 - Palma - DH 6 - Henry - C 7 - Fry - 1B 8 - Friis - 2B 9 - Aguilar - CF X - Small - P
20. The Mudcats continue their battle against the Delmarva Shorebirds, after winning last night in extra innings:
21. Victor Castaneda makes his 4th start, as the Timber Rattlers strive to end a 3-game skid:
22. The Nashville Sounds go for their 4th straight win, led by professional hitter Keston Hiura (1.225 OPS in 31 PAs):
23. Pitcher Andy Otero was added to the AA Biloxi Shuckers active roster and pitched a clean 8th inning (fly out, ground out, strike out swinging) in the win last night. He hasn't thrown for any MLB affiliate since 2015, but was lights out in the recent Dominican Winter League. https://cafebeisbolero.com/2021/04/30/el-izquierdo-andy-otero-llega-a-un-acuerdo-de-ligas-menores-con-los-cerveceros-de-milwaukee/ https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=otero-001and
24. Zach Mort makes his third start (2.53 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, 8.4 K/9 in 10.2 innings in this young season) for the Timber Rattlers:
25. Bowden Francis is seeking his third consecutive win for the Shuckers: 1 - Longo - RF 2 - Turang - SS 3 - Westbrook - LF 4 - Palma - DH 5 - Spanberger - 1B 6 - Fry - 3B 7 - Aguilar - CF 8 - Devanney - 2B 9 - Diaz - C X - Francis - P
