  1. It was the first pitch against Siegler that I'm whining about.
  2. The first pitch looked high to me. The last strike was borderline. Seigler can't take them that close with two strikes, but that's easy to say from the easy chair.
  3. A first round bye sure would be sweet.
  4. Yes, several numbers, as posted above, and also including how Durbin hits 24 points lower against righties. Durbin would have to hit a triple or homer to tie/win the game, unless Sal was on the move, then a double might do it. I'm only guessing, but maybe Murph just wanted someone not to make an out so Wild Bill could come to the plate. Siegler has managed to get walks, and he actually probably should have in this AB, if the ump had glasses.
  5. I agree. If you just have a fastball against professional hitters, even if that fastball is 100 mph, you're a one-legged man in a butt kicking contest. Correction: Unless your name is Nolan Ryan.
  6. He played the numbers. Siegler's OBP is .319. Durbin's is .326. Factor in righty/lefty and recent trends, and you have your decision. However, I don't discount gut decisions. A manager spends almost everyday with players. He knows them and where they are mentally.
  7. In this situation, you can play the numbers or play your gut.
  8. I can definitely see that. It's the difference between going with numbers and trends and going with one's gut.
  9. He's hitting below .189 in the last 15 games. Siegler is .200 in the least 7, and .211 in the last 15 games. And then you also factor in righty/lefty. Who knows what would have happened. That's mindless speculation. But the numbers are the numbers. To me, the reason we lost is our closer couldn't throw his best pitch.
  10. Is the consensus here that Murph should have given Durbin the AB instead of Siegler. Durbin is hitting .167 in the last 7 games. .189 in the last 15.
  11. Yes, it can go south really quick, just as it did with the Cubs. We need to get healthy and get better work from the pen.
  12. I'm not ready say we should dump Megill but, wow, when his curve ball isn't working, he's got to learn how to figure it out on the fly. The man just has two pitches. He can't go up there throwing only fastballs to major league hitters.
  13. His number did not augur an upgrade, and they have proved true so far.
  14. Let's play some decent baseball today and win the game (unlike last night, which was a fiasco of poor hitting, bad relief pitching, and dismal defense).
  15. He got in trouble and pitched his way out. Didn't give up a run. In my book, that's good.
